They offer an eclectic menu with personable staff. I had a wonderful experience chatting with one of the owners as I waited for my coffee (Orange creamsicle latte) and food (avocado toast) and they even looked after my dog. Very warm and welcoming environment. Me and my friend stayed for several hours. I love the rotating menu with personalized flare (such a great idea adding edamame to the avocado toast). French Door Café is an absolute gem in Carlsbad! Everything we ordered was outstanding. The bread pudding was the bomb--warm, rich, and completely irresistible. We also had the shakshuka eggs, which were served in a flavorful, slightly spicy ratatouille-style sauce that was unlike anything I've had before. The combination of flavors was incredible. For drinks, the Orange Creamsicle Iced Latte was out of this world and one of the most unique coffee drinks I've ever tried. The Spanish Latte was equally delicious--smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced. Beyond the food and drinks, the café has a welcoming atmosphere, great backstory with literal armoire doors on the walls, fun, dining room, furniture, and bright colors, and great A+ friendly, knowledgeable and attentive service. It's clear that a lot of care goes into every item they serve. We'll definitely be back to work our way through more of the menu. Highly recommend! read more

This somewhat hidden gem was just what I was looking for. Greeted upon entering I ordered at the counter and sat down near the door admiring the French decor and wishing I did better in French classes so I could participate in the conversations behind the counter. The owner was attentive and suggested the apple berry crisp with my latte. It was a treat to dine from plates and mugs too and the price was very reasonable. I had high expectations due to the 4.8 rating. This was not at all like any of the French cafes I've personally visited in Paris and many times in Nice, France. We ordered salade niçoise, pulled pork panini, apple berry crisp, and tres leches bread pudding. The salad had cheap tasting canned tuna. The bread pudding was dry and hard. The apple crisp was delicious. The pulled pork was a little too tangy for my taste. I revised my review to add a star for the resto's use of vintage decor. We finally made it in! Been on our to do list ever since they opened. Tried a latte with oat milk. My sister had a chocolate croissant and I had the croque monsieur everything was absolutely delicious & reasonably priced! Really delicious sandwich packaged well. The presentation was so crisp and clean. I ordered the Club sandwich and was delighted by the turkey, ham, bacon, avocado, lettuce, and tomato. I requested no cheese or mayo and they complied which is a relief. You'd be surprised at how many restaurants don't follow directions. The French Door Cafe opened 7/14/25 which is Bastille day for those who are history buffs. Bastille day is a French National holiday which commemorates the 1789 storming of the Bastille prison to free prisoners which helped spark the French Revolution. Help this new restaurant out and try their chocolates which is Elissa's specialty. read more

We had lunch here and shared the Thanksgiving sandwich and the Turkish chicken pita. We also shared an almond croissant. Wow!! The food was so incredibly fresh and tasty, and the price was very reasonable. Also, while we had takeout, I picked it up from there, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was really charming and cozy. Also, the owner was working making the food and so there is a lot of care taken into it. The people were also very friendly. We can't wait to go back! I'm glad a local gem like this opened up so close! Thank you! We ordered an apple pie for Thanksgiving. The pie had whipped cream all over it. I was disince whipped cream doesn't last very long and why was it on the pie? The next day was Thanksgiving, I tried to take off the whipped cream because most of us wanted to heat up the pie. So then I figured to just take off the entire top crust. It didn't look great after that so we just threw the pie away. The pie was 45.00. Not very happy about this. read more

Ambience is nice, staff is friendly, prices reasonable, but unfortunately the food was just okay. They've only been open a couple of months and still needs some work. For example, I got there at 1:30 and they were already out of the Salad Nicoise and the ice tea was tasty, but, you serve yourself, and I barely got a half cup and they never refilled it. A waste of $4. Hopefully, they will work out some of these kinks, because the place is very cute. read more

Darling little hidden cafe in a business center with ambience 5* inside. You order at a take out type counter but sit at comfortable table and served when it's ready. We stopped by here on the way to Legoland and were pleasantly surprised. It's tucked away in a business park, so it's easy to miss. The food is clearly homemade and very fresh. The quiches were especially good, and the pastries were delicious, exactly what you'd expect from a proper French-style café. The prices were very reasonable for the quality, and the portions were perfect for a casual breakfast or lunch. The space is clean and charming, and the staff were very friendly. This cafe has very friendly owners that greeted us. They gave us a tour of why they named their cafe, beautiful French doors hanging on their walls. The atmosphere was very calm and beautiful. Like a comfortable tea room, the table and chair decor was sweet country table cloths and French mis-matched style chairs. We ordered their chicken soup and club sandwich. There was a good serving of both that my husband and I were able to split the portions. One of their specialties are beautiful hand painted chocolates available for order and shipping. They also have specialty deserts that look delicious. We ordered a chocolate brownie to go. It was delicious. We will definitely go again with friends next time. read more

I was hopeful that this might be a great place to get some French food and ambience. All I can say is that it was just ok. The owner was friendly once she gave me her attention. The cappuccino was marginal at best and the breakfast croissant was not great. The sausage and cheese covered less than half the roll and the croissant was way over toasted. The location is in a business park with indoor and outdoor seating which is nice. Restroom was clean and stocked. Not much else to say. I LOVE this place. I've eaten here several times, and all the food has been delicious. With Elissa (the owner, baker, creator, chef) right there, you really feel the personal touch. There are so many items to choose from. It's nice because there are larger dishes if you're ready for a meal and smaller little bites that go perfectly with my coffee. As if that wasn't enough, I found out today Elissa also has her own line of signature chocolates available at Chocolate by E. The signage for The French Door could be improved, but I know they are limited in the business park with what they can display. It is worth the effort to seek out The French Door! I heard about this new restaurant on Nextdoor and felt like trying something new today. It is tucked away in a business complex, but there are clear "cafe" signs that guide you to the right spot. I was greeted immediately by the friendly owner who helped me decide what to get. I got one of today's specials- a peach caprese sandwich on a fresh baguette, drizzled with good olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It was perfect! All fresh ingredients and a great mix of flavors.
