We almost ate at another restaurant nearby, but our driver insisted we must dine here. I think this might be the best tip I've ever gotten from a driver before! It's a very casual, fun beachy atmosphere but with a gourmet menu to delight any palette. We ordered a grouper sandwich, lobster bisque, lobster maki roll, and the seafood scampi. Delicious food! Upon arrival, my boyfriend and I we were sat on the front patio immediately and given menus. Our waitress Brooke greeted us and got in our Lobster bisque appetizer. It was AMAZING. If I could, my rating would be 3.5 stars, because I didn't feel the food was worth the price. Cute little restaurant situated right by the beach (easy to catch sunset and walk over to this restaurant). I loved sitting outside on the deck, very island-like feel. Weather was perfect, there was no wait during lunch (we went right when it opened), and the staff was friendly. I ordered the crab cake, lobster roll, and short rib grilled cheese bites. The crab cake was full of lump crab (not too much filler), and paired nicely with the truffled sweet corn tartar and the maple glazed bacon. A little expensive for just ONE crab cake, but I enjoyed the flavors. I was not a fan of the cheese bites, and the lobster roll was good, but SMALL. I combined all the meat from both rolls into one roll (way too much bread- although the roll was fresh and I could've eaten both). I would eat here again for the environment. read more

What a wonderful place. Truly an incredible presentation. Each plate is specially designed for the dish you ordered. Plated in an outstanding manner. The salmon dish was exquisite. This place is amazing! We meant to go To the hub but it had a long wait So we Decided To give The Cottage a try. We were delightfully surprised so much that we had to come back a few days later. Every dish we got was packed with flavor that Kept ya wanting more. I got the Tuna taco and the diver scallops they were both to die for. So much rich flavor and balance though both dishes made me come back. The second stop i got the lobster bisque it was Devine. Fun place to eat! Thatched roof porch is lively and the inside has a cottage feel. Heather was our perky waitress and steered us in the right direction with the grouper sandwich, special sauce. I'd love to love this restaurant, but plain and simple, those super high bar seats predominantly in the whole restaurant are a big no for me. They super pissed me off because I had to hike up those chairs and almost fell several times trying to get up. Apparently they have very low picnic tables outside, but at the time we went it was humid and the clouds finally let down the rain so there was no sitting there. People working there tried to make me more comfortable and brought me a pillow from the back, but I was that close to leaving. I know wa wa, cry baby, but those chairs no way. Not the easier high chairs with railings on the side to help pull u up. I ordered the won ton ahi tuna tacos yum yum! Thank god that helped me forget my struggles. Although right before that I also knocked over my big cup of water, wow not my day. Either way through all of that, my service was good, nice, and helpful. Those ahi tuna tacos were great and one of the most affordable on that menu. You gotta get those. My hubby ordered the calamari which he was happy with. read more

Patio salad was as expected and the Tarragon dressing wasn't overpowering in Tarragon. Crab cake was the highlight. Good amount of crab in a delicious homemade tarter. The candied bacon was nice, but not sure it was needed. Other friends ordered the Lobster Bisque (excellent), the cauliflower mashed potatoes (very rich but good). The mussels were way too salty, and not edible but the server said they are not usually like that. Wonderful violin performer who added to the beautiful outdoor courtyard. First let me say that "The Cottage" was recommended by one of my special Yelper friends, Amanda J. I trust her judgement so this restaurant was a must. It really deserves 5 Stars, but I will explain in a minute. So they have both indoor and outside deck seating. They offer live music on the rear deck. We chose to have a few Items off the Tapas menu. Won Ton Tuna Tacos, Tempura Shrimp, and Tuna Tiradito. All delusions no complaints about the food. Our server, Jen, was fabulous. She actually made all these suggestions and she was spot on. So here's my reason for 4 Stars. This restaurant is pet friendly, but only on the outdoor decks. No problem with that. Here's where I have a problem... a waiter was enamored with a patrons dog, petting it scratching it, and in his knees playing with it. Then he began serving food. No hand washing or sanitizing. That's a big No No for me. Fortunately he wasn't out server. Next time in Siesta Key we will be back, but won't be sitting in the animal friendly area. read more

Another 5 star review, the seafood restaurants in Sarasota are top notch. If it's not obvious by my many other reviews, my husband and I are big foodies and usually don't hold back with our orders. Here, there were so many things we wanted to try we did tapas and split an entree in order to get in as many things as possible. We started with the calamari and lobster bisque. The bisque was so creamy and flavorful with sizable chunks of lobster, perfect. The calamari was served with the typical marinara but also a lemon sauce and olive tapenade. Yum to those two accompaniments. We also had the chicken tostadas and there were 3 large ones, they added a nice Asian flare to our mostly seafood dinner. The entree we split was the tuna burger with fries, we got the tuna medium and it was perfectly cooked. There were many cocktails and drinks that sounded appealing here, but we had already had a few pre-dinner margaritas at the place next door so we resisted. But good service, great food, and nice ambiance dining on the raised porch in front means 5 stars from me! read more

Wow. This place is easy to miss as when you walk by it looks like a little tiki hut. The deck is raised above the sidewalk about 5 feet and the thatch roof comes down so low that you might not even realize it is there. I dont remember the salad choices being so great. The grouper sandwich , grilled, was very tasty. Dont need the bun if you have a smaller appetite The fish of the day was seared Ahi Tuna, and again opted for no bun. Co.ez with a guava slaw, very yummy, and I opted for a side Caeser salad instead of Fries. All was very yummy. We tried the Calamari prior to our meal, and it was fresh, with a light batter, not at all heavy or greasy. Thete were some sliced jalapenos with it so be aware if you aren't a fan of spicy. We went to Cottage looking for a nice date night meal based on the good looking menu and we were in Siesta Key for a quick vacation. The location is very crowded and parking is difficult to find. The restaraunt is quite small and cramped. We ended up sitting in the back patio which was quite hot and loud with the live music. As for the food, we enjoyed the crab cake and shrimp causa tapas. But the entrees were disappointing. We had the seafood scampi which was OK but nothing special. We also had the lobster sushi, which had some good flavor but the rice had a gummy texture. Guess you shouldn't expect good sushi from a place thats not known for sushi. Our server was also clearly very busy so we didn't get great attention from him. In summary, the ambiance is poor, parking is a pain, and the food is a bad value (especially given the very expensive prices). Should we return to Siesta Key, we will not eat here again. read more
