Just finished Valentines Dinner at The Cottage. Neide was an amazing server and made our night. We had the ahi tuna nachos, brick chicken and flounder. Everything came out awesome. We came in for a work lunch at 1pm on a Friday. The place was busy but they had our table ready and waiting for us. The waiter we had was great and always there when we needed him for beverage refills or menu questions. The appetizers came out quickly and were good size. We had some fried eggplant, calamari and a flatbread pizza to share. I had the salmon as my meal and subbed in asparagus - it was cooked perfectly. Everyone enjoyed their meals and there was no pressure to rush us out as we chatted and had a chance to catch up out of the office. Came here for a group lunch. Overall a good experience. We sat outside and had a nice breath of fresh air and enjoyed our chats. Menu selection was ok but I wouldn't say the food was stellar. Really not a great experience today for lunch. The food was mediocre at best. The calamari was frozen and microwaved it was hard as a rock. The spa drinks had zero flavor and the chicken salad sandwich tasted like something you'd expect from a vending machine not in an establishment like this. Hey everyone! Today I stopped by The Cottage Wellesley for the first time and YES it was amazing and YES you should go! I got the Summer Berry + Grains Bowl which was honestly the best. The salad was fresh, the avocado and feta in the salad was amazing and everything about it was perfect! I went for Sunday Brunch and the menu is fantastic. You know what REALLY gets me? Descriptions that don't match the meal. I specifically ordered the "chopped mexican salad" so that I would not have to contend with large leaves of lettuce splashing dressing all over me. We all know what a "chopped salad" is, correct? Well they don't at the Cottage. The somewhat pricey salad consisted almost entirely of huge leaves of lettuce that are actually difficult to spear. They paired this with a half ounce of dressing. I don't like a lot of salad dressing, but this was barely enough to touch a quarter of the "chopped salad". There was one GARGANTUAN piece of avocado, and 7 or 8 slivers of taco chip. They then threw PARMESAN cheese on it. Don't bother ordering from this place, it is a truly awful restaurant. read more

It seems like the point of this restaurant is the "style", which just looks phony even if it's supposed to be magazine-like. The food is bland and not cooked particularly well despite being overpriced. The spa drink juices are fun and tasty, but obviously not worth the price either. Have been going there for many years and was extremely disappointed with the meal. Portions seem to be cut in half. Chicken Milanese was always two large pieces of chicken and now one small piece. The lobster special was tasteless with more filler than lobster and when we called over the manager to ask what happened to the tail and claws, we were told they we'd mixed in with the stuffing. Knowing that I'm a big fan of brunch, my little x3 decided to take me and her sister to The Cottage when I was visiting her in her hometown of Wellesley. While I definitely loved the Cape Cod-esque decor, I wasn't extremely impressed with the food. I ordered the Crabcakes Benedict, which while not terrible, could definitely have been better. The crab cakes themselves were not very flavorful and there was barely any hollandaise sauce. I did enjoy the English muffin and potatoes, but I don't really come to brunch for the bread or the sides, naw mean?. Perhaps I've been a tad bit spoiled by all the delicious varieties of eggs benedict that I've had in NYC, but to me, this one was just pretty underwhelming. read more

Thank goodness we made a reservation!! We met some friends here for lunch yesterday and there was a line out the door. Luckily, we had a reservation and got seated immediately. The online menu looked amazing and, while they did have pretty much the same things, we were ONLY able to order off the brunch menu - not the regular menu. They changed that recently. Very good bread - we got it hot out of the oven, although we were halfway done with our meal. We started off with an order of their Aloha Chicken Tenders: boneless chicken tenders tossed with papaya-buffalo bbq sauce, served with pineapple salsa & blue cheese dip. Very tasty. Only 6 tenders in the order (about $1.50 per tender), but they were very good and SUPER tender. Everytime we tried to pick one up with a fork, it almost fell apart. Very good. Since we got the tenders, I wanted to be healthy and get a salad. The salad selection was limited on the brunch menu, so I ended up with the Grilled Chicken & Goat Cheese Salad: fresh chicken, mixed greens, caramelized walnuts, roasted peppers & goat cheese tossed in a light balsamic vinaigrette. This was a VERY big salad, but was mainly greens. I had asked for the balsamic and another dressing on the side - the other dressing came after I was almost done with the salad. My husband got the Chinese Chicken Salad: fire-grilled chicken, cashews, crispy noodles, mandarin oranges, mixed greens tossed with toasted sesame dressing - which he loved. Our friends got the Stuffed French Toast: our country style french toast stuffed with strawberry compote & marscarpone cheese (wasn't so much stuffed and sort of rolled over the compote and cheese) - this was super tasty - and the Killer Tuna Melt: white albacore tuna salad, melted cheddar cheese, tomato & bacon on sourdough parmesan cheese toast, which looked awesome. I love the look & feel of the place - bright and airy, yet kid-friendly. Although I bet you could have a nice, romantic dinner here later in the evening. Our waiter was super nice, but VERY slow. We had to ask other waiters for water, another table for ketchup and I had to ask twice what the soup of the day was (a buffalo chicken soup!?!?). We also waited a very long time to order our entrees after our appetizer came. It was somewhat expensive - over $70 for 4 adults and one child - but you get quality food, great presentation and huge portions. Despite the slow service and highish price, I will definitely plan on coming back!! I'm curious to try some of their more breakfast-y options, as well as their dinner fare. read more

My boss & co-worker took me here for lunch on my first day of work. Simple, clean, modern interior - definitely a cottage-y feel. Eggplant fries are actually a must-have. Definitely the best thing that I had there. Got the seared ahi lettuce wraps and it was seared pretty well but overall not that impressive. Dessert was all right too. Can't remember what it was called but it was pretty much lava cake and ice cream - very moist, decadent, and smooth. Few points off for service though because my boss has been there before and they never carded her prior but we all got carded and she just got a new license, but it was with her husband. None of us got drinks because our boss couldn't and if there isn't more of a dead giveaway than that then I don't know what is. Mentioning that she had 3 kids didn't seem to do anything either. Wow. The food here was very tasty and the staff was super attentive. My group of 12 had a wonderful lunch. There was a great variety in what was ordered - from turkey burgers with cranberry mayo to salads with avocado halves filled with tuna. Everyone said their food was delicious. High expectations were met with exceptional performance. Yes this isn't a diner so get over the price tag (which is actually reasonable but maybe bc I am from NJ where everything is priced like NYC) but the Cottage delivers in all categories. The menu is creative and abundant but not just to impress the Vineyard Vines style clientele. The tuna nachos are outstanding, fresh, delicious and dare I say. . Chic! Eggplant fries were decadent and would make a great dinner dish w sauce and shaved parm.. just sayin. And let's talk about the drinks.. if you like whiskey at all you must get the delightful Steve McQueen cocktail. And the decor was cute like you were inside a family home/ estate. We ordered the Ahi Tuna appetizer, prosciutto and Lobster sandwich, eggs Benedict on crab cakes, and a lamb burger. Ahi Tuna appetizer was fresh and the playing was excellent. The lobster sandwich was good but I wish the prosciutto wasn't cooked. This made it more like bacon then prosciutto. Id give it a 3.5 - 4, just because of the outrageously delicious LAMB BURGER... and seriously, the food is good. Burger - Juicy to a fault, great fries. We had the fried eggplant (Im such a sucker for the dang thing), and they were a bit on the bland side but not the least greasy. We also ordered the tuna taco appetizers - delicious and crispy. The guys all feasted on the burgers, and I, trying to make up for the antispiritual holiday gluttony from November through January, had a nice nicoise (nothing to have angels blow triumphantly into the heavens above...). 2 desserts made their way to the table - a raspberry cheesecake and a brownie sundae (fruit servings, eh). This is my issue with The Cottage - 1) its in a mall 2) its in a mall 3) its in a mall and the Mall is in Wellesley so expect the cost of eating is the cost of Wellesley well to do super yuppie prices for good / ok food. Nothing WRONG with the food, and the service was an oh so wonderful server formerly Tomasso Trattoria, so it felt "like home". Nice decor, limited and not too interesting wines (safe drinkable wines). Menu is quite boring, pricy, but if you want to feel like anglo middle crust, this is a place to go. I will be going back for lamb burger, and I know what to expect, so I'm ok with the place. Just not something that would make my toes curl... Though wait staff was quite friendly, the food here is a disaster. I ordered fish tacos - fishy. My kids shared a children's fish finger plate - equally fishy and bland. Also, we were never asked if wanted the drink, nor the dessert included with the child's meal. I didn't follow up as we went elsewhere for better quality dessert (i.e. home), but I still think it would have been proper protocol to ask if we were interested in dessert. Instead, we had the bill given to us before we even requested it. Furthermore, this was our second try for lunch at the cottage. The first time, about a year ago, was passable, but nothing noteworthy. I would have to say that quality has gone down a considerable amount since then. read more

We Picked the Cottage for a birthday dinner based on positive experiences pre-covid. We had a reservation and hostess confirmed the birthday when we arrived. *The pescatarian in our group said the fish tacos were perfect! Your facebook page recently posted a vegetable rigatoni that our vegetarian was planning on ordering, but was not on the menu. Server was not knowledgeable about vegetarian pasta options when asked. And We were all disappointed when the eggplant fries arrived that we were all looking forward to but they have been transformed from their original thick cut light traditional tempura style, that is still highlighted on your website, and instead what arrived was deep fried paper thin strips very thickly coated with breading (most likely purchased frozen/processed as the potato fries). Did not get a photo before sending them back. Picture skinny flat long fried mozzarella sticks from the freezer, mostly all breaded coating virtually no eggplant inside. Finally, server did not acknowledge the birthday. read more

Was looking forward to a birthday dinner with my husband and two sons in their lovely patio. We had a 6:15 reservation, arrived a couple of minutes early, and we're seated promptly. Unfortunately others were seated after us, we're greeted, given water, orders taken, their drinks arrived, and by 6:40 we were still sitting there waiting to be acknowledged. At this point we left and politely explained why we were leaving to the hostess, who could've cared less. As we were driving away, we noticed our table had been filled with another group of four. Really enjoyed my lunch at The Cottage. The restaurant decor is very nice and the food was reasonably priced and well prepared. This was a business lunch with co-workers and we were promptly seated; I should add I used Yelp to make the reservation and it was seamless. We all know Yelp is premier in restaurant ratings but the reservations feature was so much easier than Open Table and I didn't have to leave the app. We ordered their Calamari and Cottage Nachos for starters: both were excellent and our table devoured the plates not long before our food came. The table had three different entrees between the party of four: two people had the Lamb burger (I was one of them) - it was excellent in flavor and presentation and their fries are very good. Another had the fish tacos and he raved about them. The final was the Tuna Melt on sourdough and he loved his meal. Service was acceptable - they couldn't figure out who had what drink or who had what order when they returned but they didn't ignore us and we didn't sit there for 30 minutes before we were served. All in and out we were able to be seated and out the door within one hour, which was an acceptable timeframe. I would go back again; the menu was broad and offered alternatives for different eating restrictions and preferences and the food was very good. The place is super busy; parking is available at the shopping center where the grocery store is and the entrance is on that same side. read more

The host Didier was very accommodating and helpful when a snowstorm made us late for our reservation and we were seated immediately upon arrival, even an hour late. It was a Monday night though and not busy at all. The decor is comfortable and open, though suspect it could get a little loud at times. I am told it really buzzes at brunch time. We ordered the "Naked Fish," which was salmon, a lamb burger at the waitress' recommendation, and a gluten-free burger off the very large gluten-free version of The Cottage menu. The fish was outstanding and well cooked. The lamb burger was fair, but a little masked by greasy cheese and greasy onions (East Coast style, vs really bare style more familiar in Calif). The menu had 10+ other items that looked really yummy and I'd gladly go back again and again to The Cottage. read more

This past Easter hubby and I went here for brunch. It was of course busy because of the day, but the type of service we had was awful. Not all the items that hubby ordered came on his plate, very stingy on the condiments or nothing at all(ketchup, salt/pepper), there were no utensils at our table. Our server seemed very inexperienced. He did not check on us once. We had to flag him down whenever he would see him, which was not often or at all. When we did see him I felt like I was in a stadium and had to wave my hands all high in the air so he would see me. The prices were pretty high for our budget, but in a way I felt it was Easter so we should live a little. Come to find out, their prices are always that way. The food itself was not bad, but for both hubby and I, it definitely is not worth your time or money to come here. Pretty atmosphere but bad service for the price you are paying. read more

Manager tonight gave us a talking to about Wellesley law, what a way to finish a great night after leaving their other restaurant across the road Door No.7 FYI great food and service there. So we decided we liked the dessert choices at The Cottage better so after a great experience we headed over to their other restaurant (The Cottage) across the road. We sat at the bar and were told after we ordered drinks that we both needed to get a dessert each although after eating at their other restaurant we just wanted to split a dessert. So we proceeded to ordered two desserts from your very upset (manager/bartender) that clearly had some issues. After ordering she ended up leaving the bar in a hufff after taking the time to argue and bring out a binder to show us paperwork even though my husband said we would order two desserts and take one home. She was very unprofessional even telling us she would take our drinks away and just left us at the bar wondering if she would ever come back and was super aggressive to us. When she did return 15-20 min later with desserts she and another waitress put then down on the bar with not a word said. At this point we decided to leave drinks unfinished desserts uneaten as the service and atmosphere was so negative and uncomfortable. We proceeded to pay for the drinks that we left on the bar and an uneaten dessert (one was packed up for a son which we threw out as there was a funny taste which was worrying) rather then spend another second dealing with her. Such an awful way to end what was a great evening perhaps The cottage should really look at their staffing as it's a marked difference from the experience we had across the road at Door No 7. Perhaps they have put all their eggs in one basket and The Cottage management has gotten the short end of the stick since the shinny new restaurant has opened. Very disappointed and won't be back even though we live walking distance and although we love Door No. 7 we might think about taking our business somewhere else if this is how their businesses are run. read more
