My daughter, her husband and I were headed for the caverns, but this being Schoharie County, it made sense to also visit their seat. Diagonally across the street from the courthouse was this little gem of a restaurant. Ok. This is one of those must stop places. Country cafe is a perfect description of this place. Prices are ridiculously low and portions are great. I ordered 2 eggs, HD and English muffin. $3.59! Visiting from out of town with family. Place had numerous empty tables but waitress refused to let us sit down to eat. She said that she cannot serve more than 5 people at a time. Ok no problem. We offered to sit at two different tables. She wouldn't let us sit down. Other families came in after us and sat down. Rudest waitress I've ever encountered. Sometimes heading in a different direction can yield suprises, and that's exactly what happened on that morning as we stumbled across this small cafe in Schoharie. Needing a good breakfast, we went for it. Tattooed and pierced, our server was great, often appearing with a fresh pot of coffee after our order was taken. Two in my group got omelets, which came with home fries and toast. Both plates were left clean and a thumbs up from them. I got the pancake special that had blueberry cakes topped with strawberries and whipped cream...very patriotic for the memorial Day weekend, and also included coffee. The place was clean, and the decor was a bit of country store yet comfy. Prices were reasonable and the selection was adequate, but could use some more vegetarian options. Perfect place for comfort food. We ordered the Nutella banana French toast and the big country breakfast. Food was delicious you get so much for cheap. My fiance & I stopped in to The Country Cafe, located on Main Street in Schoharie for breakfast. It's quaint welcoming interior made us feel very good about our choice. The menu had plenty of meals to choose from for "breakfast, lunch and more". I ordered a blueberry muffin and "Ultimate Breakfast Sandwich" - double meat (ham, bacon or sausage), double egg and double cheese on a bagel (I also could have opted for toast or English muffin). My fiance opted for the western omelette with home fries & English muffin. Our meal came in short time and not only was the bluebery muffin toasted beautifully, but the smell of it made me salivate. I had to cut my sandwich in half to eat it, and what a treat THAT was! The eggs were fried perfectly so the yolk never left the sandwich, yet wasn't hard and pasty. I could only eat half my filling sandwich and as I write I'm tempted to go enjoy the other half; the muffin was also split and saved. I was tempted to buy a few muffins for home they were beautifully baked. My fiance had a cheddar cheese western omelette and home fries. Both of these he raved about, however he DID finish his meal. We both had sodas, although the coffee & iced tea offered free refills. The total of our bill was $17.12. Which was fair to the service & food quality. We will definitely be going back to see Ashley (our wait staff) and recommend if you are in Schoharie you stop in as well! read more

What a find! We go thru the village of Schoharie frequently on our way to Albany and decided to try the Country Cafe instead of the Apple Barrel where we usually stop. It is awesome for lunch. Had the turkey and apple sandwich and the roast beef sandwich. We each had half of each sandwich. These were probably the best sandwiches we have ever had. We got there just before noon and had our pick of tables but by 12:15 the place was packed. For good reason. Can't wait to get back and try breakfast also. I gotta give the staff and the food 4 stars. Stop on by. I only go here for breakfast, but I've heard good things about their lunch and dinner. I don't think they do dinner every night, so you might want to call ahead. The breakfasts are top notch and run from about $4 to $9, depending on what you order. The coffee is hot. The hot cocoa has whipped cream. The pancakes are huge and delicious and not dry. The eggs are cooked to order (over easy please!). The french toast has cinnamon on it. The home fries and hash brown are crisp and delicious. Long story short, breakfasts here kick butt and fill you up. It's not a big place and has about 10-15 tables that seat about 4 each. The inside is nicely decorated. There is parking right in front on Main Street. Specials are posted on a blackboard in the front window. The staff is sweet and treats you like they appreciate your business. Looking forward to my next return. read more

Small and quaint. The atmosphere is so cute and country. The waitress was a total sweetheart the service was quick and the food was so delicious! I went with my boyfriend who had the Reuben. Having decided to bypass NYC, our usual St. Patrick's Day tradition, we headed out on an adventure to the Secret Caverns but needed corned beef first. Thanks to Yelp we found this great little spot! The staff was friendly and the place was very clean. The Reuben was perfect! Lean and flavorful and apparently always on the menu! I highly recommend trying it! Took a little road trip through Schoharie and my daughter decided she was hungry ...as always LOL and wanted to stop for lunch someplace . Saw the sign and so we stopped for a bite. Hubby ordered a small tossed salad and order of onion rings, I had BLT sandwich and daughter ordered the tuna melt with fries. We decided to switch a half for a half sandwich Oh my goodness, what a good lunch. The tuna was creamy and had just right mix of mayo with added tomato on rye toast. Fries were fresh and piping hot. BLT was also good and came with chips. Hubby's onion rings were delicious, hot and huge and there was plenty of them so that my daughter and I could chisel off his plate. He said the salad tasted very fresh like home grown veggies . Cute little place and waitress was friendly and efficient. Came to a total of $21.00 for 3 lunches and a soda .
