I have always had good experiences at The Cork and have never tried the Sunday brunch. Also never had the waiter before and I was overall disappointed. I ordered the Chesapeake egg Benedict and asked how well they cook the eggs specifically are the whites runny because I didn't want them under cooked. The waiter responded "well they are poached", like I didn't know what I was ordering. When I got my meal there was not much hollandaise sauce so I had to ask for more. It was very bland and tasted like yolk and that's it. The Canadian bacon was really cooked and thin so there was not much there. Home fries were chewy and did not taste good. When the waiter came to pick up plates I asked if there was sugar on the home fries (to be sure) and said yes it's sugar and old bay. The menu made no mention of that so all you diabetics beware. I said I could not eat that and he's said "gotcha". That's it.....took my plate. By the way if you want a second glass of water you have to ask. Our glasses were empty for half the meal. The other meal we had was the Baltimore omelette and again bland. Also looked like two eggs instead of three. Can't be certain. In all fairness he looked to be the only waiter. A few others would clean up tables but I do tip based on service and do not blame the wait staff for quality of food. No one should. I didn't complain while I was there because it does not seem as friendly of a place anymore. Reading other reviews I see complaining while there didn't make much difference. I hope to try this place again in the future so I can update my review. I love local establishments because they are so unique and do support them. One last thing I wish they would have a happy hour that lasts till 7 instead of 6 so I can make it there once in a while after work. read more

I go to the Cork at least once a week, it is a local gem that can't be missed! Happy Hour is great there, with $3 glasses of the month - perfect after a long day of work. The staff is very friendly and attentive, and the food is AMAZING!!! I almost always try one of the specials they have and am never disappointed. The two Faced Tuna Appetizer is one of the best of its kind anywhere - I have been know to order multiple orders in one sitting. Foodtastic as always! Took some friends to expose them to this charming and scrumptious jewel. Place was packed but Service and especially food quality were superb regardless. We all forayed into the restaurant week fixed price 3-course menu...at $29.95 per person it was the best foodie value I've relished in a long while. The appetizers were quite generous in portion size. My wife had the roasted broccoli which she devoured like a gremlin and I slurped down their bowl of mussels sopping up all the delectable broth with toast points. Our friend had the cauliflower appetizer which was literally gone before I could get a fork into battle. Alas, the entrees were spectacular. The Filet was perfectly seasoned, great sear/ crust and cooked to a wonderful medium rare. It was topped with a sliced almond olive-oil tomato YUM...no other way to describe it...you gotta try it. My wife had the pasta de jour...moto buono. Home made fettuccine with chicken, kale, mushrooms, truffle and shaved Parmesan cheese...another bowl of food porn. And if that wasn't enough we had both their creme brûlée and homemade mint chocolate chip ice cream for dessert....both prepared to perfection and a fitting and comforting end to an absolutely enchanting meal....did I mention it was $29.95? I have been to this restaurant five times and tried a different dish each time. This place is off the hook the staff is great. You will not be disappointed. My last visit I had the coffee crusted tenderloin matched with a nice Cab. Their specials are always perfect. I highly recommend this place. Brought some friends here during restaurant week should of made a reservation this place has really caught on, my fault. The staff was great we only had to wait 15 minutes not bad at all considering the flow of people coming into the place. We have had the same waiter for almost all of our visits that says a lot to me when there is not a huge turnover of employees. The servers name escapes me and I am sorry for that, he is right on que friendly knowledgeable and very accommodating. They have changed the menu a bit; I was looking for the coffee crusted tenderloin. So I am one to try various dishes so for the first time ever in a restaurant I tried their shrimp and grits. The shrimp was cooked perfect I hate when places over cook the shrimp in sauces this was not the case. Now the grits were creamy with a nice velvet buttery finish the only part of the dish I did not prefer was the sausage utilized for the dish. I prefer a local sausage Roma, it holds very nice in sauces and when sautéed with that nice char it is just incredible. In all everything was nice from the appetizers, oh did I mention they have a great selection of beer and wine. If you have not tried this place you do not know what you a missing. If there were six stars I would definitely give it six stars. read more

We would give The County Cork a five on food and a four on service. The atmosphere was pleasant and we will definitely go back if we are ever in the area again. We started with a pan seared tuna appetizer. It was presented beautifully and had very tasty sauce. For dinner I had the seared scallops, they were wonderful and were served in a terrific sauce that was very aromatic and flavorful without being heavy. My husband had the Steak Au Poivre which was well prepared, and served with sides that complemented the steak well. Our daughter ordered the fish and frites which she enjoyed and ended up boxing up half as the portion was huge. Dessert was nice too, flour less chocolate cake and homemade chocolate ice cream. First, be prepared to walk through a haze of smoke as Pub encourages smoking right outside their front door providing a table and ash trays. On occasion, I forget to tell the waiter to put the dressing on the side as I did at the Pub. The waitress told me the menu was clear, and if I wanted a salad without dressing, I would have to pay another $10.00...the price of the salad, which was primarily a plate of Arugula. First visit and quite impressed. Ambiance is nice looking, cozy and comfortable. Food is yummy and trying to be creative. No, it's not NY or Philly level of modern cuisine, but at least it's delicious and not boring chain restaurants type of food. And this is such a rare find around this area. But what we really were impressed with is their cheese board which contained some interesting cheeses. The service if wasn't professionally polished but at least was nice, friendly and attentive. I've tried this place for dinner about 4 times over the last year. The food has been over salted every single time. I said something twice and they didn't seem to care much. The brunch can be good but it's hit or miss. One time the duck hash was great and one time it was the smallest portion of duck possible. Service is not the best either. We ate here last light, after recently moving to Eldersburg. I must say, I am very surprised by the glowing reviews. Of the 4 entrees, an appetizer, and 3 salads that we ordered, nothing was memorable or 5 star worthy. Everything is drenched in sodium-filled sauces. The appetizer, crunchy deviled eggs, was so salty that it was inedible, luckily this was removed from the bill. The plate presentation was superb, but the execution of each dish was very poor. If this is a 5 star restaurant, you need to get out more. We will try it again, since it was a busy Saturday night. If our 2nd experience is better, I will be sure to update my review :) read more

Great specials throughout the week. I was very sad that I missed the Bloody Mary bar and mimosas but I will definitely be back to try that out in the near future. Our waiter was very knowledgable of the menu and effortlessly led us to ordering a flight of wine, a signature martini, the braised bacon, and two-faced tuna to begin. For the main course we enjoyed the wahoo special and tuna tacos. To finish the meal we ordered creme brûlée and the house made soft serve ice cream. Everything was delicious and very fairly priced. I love that the menu has lots of options for meal sizes and the tapas plates are great for tasting a little bit of everything! due to scheduling issues, my family decided to do mother's day the sunday before. my grandmother chose the country cork as she's been there before with her church group and thought it would be a place we'd all enjoy. our reservation was at 1 and like usual, my mother insisted we arrive about 10 minutes early. as expected our table was not ready, which gave us the opportunity to sit at the bar and glance at the menu. upon sitting down i instantly noticed how frazzled the bartender was. she was personable when greeting us but could not hide the grunts of frustration as she tried to work her POS system or ran from one station to the next. we quickly realized that they were severely understaffed. i am hoping that it was an instance where more than one person called out, rather than just poor management. especially since we noticed that a woman (who we assumed was maybe an owner) had come in to enjoy brunch but quickly got to work instead. our waiter was also friendly but so in the weeds he would drop something off and keep moving rather than check on our table or ask if we needed anything else. the food took quite a while but was actually delicious and while the 10 dollar bottomless drinks was a great deal (especially compared to the city prices i am used to) the lack of attention meant they were hard to come by. i definitely intend to give this place another shot as it looks like we came on a bad day for he wait staff. just hoping this was a one time instance and not the standard practice for a busy brunch service! read more

I just dined here last night for the first time. This place is definitely a hidden gem. The food was fresh and high quality. Wednesday nights they give a complimentary appetizer with the purchase of 2 adult entrees. We had the crab and brie fondue, which was amazing and couldn't taste any fresher. We split the Black and Bleu Beef Tips and the Crabcakes. Both dishes were fantastic. The crab cakes had a spicy kick to them and while the sauce seemed heavy, they tasted light. The serving sizes were huge. The veggies tasted fantastic and the mixed potatoes were the best I've ever had. I would go back and order the exact same entrees again in a heartbeat. For dessert, we had popcorn ice cream. This was amazing. Real popcorn in vanilla ice cream drizzled with salted caramel sauce. They make it in-house and it's the only way I want to waste calories on ice cream now. read more

I've eaten here about 5 times. The service was horrific twice. The food was mediocre at best once, nasty once, decent once and once I only had wine. I've had appetizers brought after the meal once and waited for 30 minutes to get my check. Today the mimosa was warm. The waiter smelled like a cigarette and they introduced heat to my food. Leaving now after driving 30 mins as we have done at least a half dozen times in the past...had a 7:30 reservation made on open table. Was informed when we arrived that they turned off their open table since they had lots of reservations, WTH? I don't think you "turned it off" prior to me making my reservation at least 1.5 hours prior. No apology, no space anywhere to wait, no drink from bar on them or even on us. Poor service. We were fairly frequent visitors, but probably no longer. Updated since someone cared enough to read and learn from their mistake. Most places that utilize open table don't keep two lists of reservations, they book everything on the same system so there's no need to "turn off" open table, you would have specified that there were no tables available when I wanted to make the reservation. My feeling is that I had a reservation that was as valid as the one made by phone by the couple who came in 5 mins after us and were immediately seated, but was penalized by utilizing the technology available. We would have stayed for 30 mins with no issue if offered an apology and drink. The service issue was that neither of these things were done and that we were left standing around feeling like we were in the way anywhere up and down the bar area where we were trying to find a spot to wait. We were told that some of the people at the bar would be seated shortly and that maybe we should try to grab those seats. What would have worked for us would have been brought to their bar seats and offered them as they were being offered a table so we didn't feel like we were hanging around in the way trying to snag a couple of seats. I contend we had bad service on this particular occasion but agree it hasn't happened in the past and food and drinks have always been good. read more

Went here for date night and it was overall a great place for that. Menu is full of fantastic choices clearly made by an experienced chef. It's kind of deceiving because this place is in a tiny strip mall next to RadioShack. Service was top notch, friendly, prompt, and helpful. Filet was over seasoned and over cooked. My wife had the chicken gnocchi which she said was overly seasoned also. Plenty of wine selection, about 10 craft beers, and some interesting custom alcoholic beverages. Outside of the entrees, which are quite good, they have warm roasted almonds as an appetizer that are to die for! I could make a meal out of them - so good. Their seared ahi is very good also. It was late afternoon on a Sunday and while the decor if this quaint eatery was nice, clearly there was no professional management on hand. We were not promptly greater at the door, tables from previous guests were not bussed and we and a couple outside were the only diners The menu for a brunch is great with offerings for both lunch and dinner fare, and the descriptions and twists on everyday food was impressive, but no way that staff could ever pull it off. my burger was extremely overlooked for medium rare and my wife's Caesar was lettuce and bought-in dressing. The polenta croutons lacked all seasoning and not cooked enough to demand the crunch one expects. I assume this place will thrive as a great local watering hole but never as the restaurant draw their business model projects. If you far away it's not worth the trip. read more

Maybe brunch is not the right time to go...We went here for the first time, and it was for brunch. First of all, the restaurant did not give us a good first impression. The floor was greasy. Also, they seated us next to what apparently was a table that the employees use to organize utensils and sweeteners, which struck me as so unprofessional. In terms of the food, I regret that I didn't read a reviewer's comments about the fried green tomato benedict. The dish was flavorless, and the tomatoes were coated with over fried breading that I couldn't even taste the tomatoes. The worst, however, was my husband's steak and eggs. He asked for the steak to be cooked medium, but when he cut into it, the meat was brown. We asked the server for another one, and after 2-3 minutes, someone who I assume was the manager brought my husband a plate trying to pass off the same cut of steak as a different one by slicing it in a few pieces. She had me fooled but not my husband. Very sketchy! Needless to say, we won't be returning. read more

We have been to The Cork numerous times. We've dined for brunch, lunch, and dinner. The food is wonderful and the staff is friendly and attentive. Eldersburg was in need of fine dining options, as they are sparse. The food here is somewhat eclectic for the non-foodie pallet, but even so, I'm sure they can find a suitable option. Brunch is always fabulous. The all-you-can-drink Mimosas and Bloody Mary bar is an added bonus and well worth the $10. You can't go wrong with any of their Benedict options. I've always gone that route, so I can't really comment on any others. Lunch is also great. My favorites are the Ahi Tuna Tacos, Twisted Turkey Sandwich and Oyster Po-boys. Dinner is albeit pricey, but again, well worth it. I've tried numerous items and have always been pleased. One of my favorites is called The Butcher Block. You can choose 3 or 5 items from a list of cheeses and cured meats with all of the fixin's, such as course mustard, capers, jams, olives, etc, served with Crustini bread. This pairs wonderfully with wine. The menu does change quite often and is always a pleasant change. I gave this 5 stars, because as I said, fine dining options in Eldersburg are very far and few between. Liberatories and Baldwins are pretty much the only competition. Had this restaurant been located in Baltimore or DC, with a plethora of other options, I would have rated it a 4. read more

We drove all the way from Silver Spring based on Yelp ratings to check out this well-deserved Best of Carroll County 2013 restaurant. Superior service, attentive but not intrusive and quick with accommodations: we requested a basket of bread when the only bread on the menu was flatbread, so the waitress brought us warm baguette slices with a dish of butter. Delicious grilled ahi tuna topped Caesar salad with polenta croutons (who knew?) and a HUGE, tender and juicy leg of lamb steak with lemony chickpea puree, topped with cooked fennel (never had it cooked before, but it works) and tomato slivers. Top quality ingredients creatively prepared. We wrapped it up with an Italian style creme brulee minus the brulee, topped with little peach chunks in delicate sauce. This place is a little gem tucked into the Eldersburg area. I'm not writing this review for a particular meal I've had here. Because I've had half a dozen meals over the past year, along with a Sunday morning brunch, and ALL the meals have been super! As another reviewer has noted, every dish has something unique to offer. Hats off to the chef, all around, for a superb job on the variety and the thought and care with which the meals are made. This has been our "go to" place recently. I've had their steaks, the venison (a recent addition), the fried cod, the goat cheese appetizer, and several other selections. All have been great! I will admit: I didn't want to write this review because I don't want to give away the "secret" of this little gem tucked away out here in the middle of nowhere! But, I just joined Yelp tonight, had an awful experience at another place in Arlington, joined Yelp to write a one-star review, and felt I needed to redeem it by writing another review for a place I really enjoy. The Cork is a nice little joint, one of the better restaurants in town. Probably one of the fancier restaurants too, next to the Japanese steakhouses or Libertores. Good food, nice service. They often have live music on the weekends. They're a little pricy, but it's a fun atmosphere. read more
