We came to try out this place few days ago during Howard County Restaurant Week. The restaurant is located on a strip mall adjacent to the sprint store. The ambience when we entered the restaurant was very inviting. It is cute little place but still classy. The hostess approached us with all smiles and a very respectful. We were seated in the booth. Our server was also very respectful. We started with cocktails which were well made with a good kick. I chose the tomato gazpacho soup and my husband as the Greek salad. Both were delicious. For appetizer we both went for the Thai shrimp which is like the bang bang shrimp but less spicy and even tastier, try this and you will never go wrong. For entree, I had the eastern shore crab cakes while my husband opted for the creamy shrimp and grits. Wow were these good. The crab cake though not lump crabs had the best taste. And the shrimp and grits was very creamy and not salty like most I have had. We finished the night the with creme brûlée and chocolate coconut mouse. Both were very good. My "go-to" restaurant when I want great food and service. Jim and Jeff (bartenders) are amazing. Once you sit at the bar area once, you will feel like friends. I have not had an average meal yet. Every dish has something unique enough to say wow. Entertainment on the weekends is just right. Not too loud, but enough to keep it lively. The customers are a pretty good mix, but without the "questionable" type. It is a very welcoming place that I love going to. Greta value and a must try. read more

A true GEM, espcially in Eldersburg. This is probably the nicest restaurant in the area. Also, a huge value for the qulaity of the food you get. You could relocat this to Clarksville and it could go toe to toe with Cafe Blanc. The food is very good. I decided to stop here for restaurant week as I enjoy eating at local establishments during that week. It gives me the chance to try places I've never heard of or thought about trying. The decor was very nice, casual and relaxing. The customer service was fantastic. Everyone was very friendly, helpful, and courteous once I walked in the door. The food was pretty good. Everything appeared to be made fresh and in house. There were a few questionable items. I started out with the crab soup, which was a little peppery and tasted as if the veggies were smoked. The taste was very unusual. My date had the tomato and crab gazpacho, which I sampled. I will say that it was very tasty. It wasn't overpowering and the flavors blended very well. My second item was the middle-neck clams with grilled bread. The broth left a little to be desired because of a little too much beer but the clams were delicious with the leeks and what appeared to be ham or some other smoked pork. You could taste the char of the bread which was ok but I wished the bread were crunchy like a hard roll and not so chewy. My main meal was the Sweet Tea Brined Pork Loin - delicious!!! The pork was so moist and flavorful and the bacon cornbread was moist but I couldn't taste much bacon. It definitely had a nice crunch. I ended the meal with their homemade ice cream with there house-made whipped cream. It was simple yet tasty. Overall I give food 3 stars and give the customer service 5 stars. Despite the distance from home I will definitely go back. read more

Came here for brunch on Sunday for the first time, and was not super impressed. The waitress was very nice and the coffee was excellent as were the hash browns. 2 of us ordered chicken/waffles and I ordered just the Belgium waffle. The food took probably about 35 minutes to come out because supposedly the place only has 1 waffle maker. What?! Also, the portions were a bit underwhelming, especially the chicken and waffles. I'm sure I'll come back at some point, but I am not in a rush to return. read more

We thought, "Oh boy, another new restaurant in Eldersburg!" (add sarcastic tone). Feeling adventurous, we decided to try it. This place is located where the old Luna Rossa's used to be. In the past, many of the places that open in the E-burg were less than stellar but we were pleasantly surprised at this one. First, this feels like an adult place. While I'm sure you could bring your kids, it probably won't appeal to them... it feels a bit more upscale (at least in Carroll County terms!) and somewhat sophisticated. Not NYC sophisticated but more so than anything around there. It is, after all, a wine bar. We were there on a Saturday night and it packed up pretty fast. It's not the biggest place but at least it didn't feel like they were trying to cram everyone in. Tables were arranged fairly well and the booths were spacious enough. Ok, maybe not for most of the "larger" Carroll County folks (READ: 80% of the population there), but even they would probably do OK. :p The food was quite good. We could tell that they used fresh ingredients. The prices were decent. Not too expensive. This is the place to go when you've dumped the kids off at a sitter and want a very nice meal, adult conversation and atmosphere. I hope it survives because Eldersburg needed something other than over-cooked, over-fried chain restaurant food but not a place trying to be too snobby. We will be back. read more

We went to the Cork for Brunch on a rainy Sunday afternoon around 1:30pm. Not many people were there and we were promptly seated. Our service started out well. Our first order of drinks were delivered quickly however, after that we had to ask and ask for refills on coffee and water. My good arrived and it was delicious. My husbands steak and eggs were a different story. The steak looked to be in an odd shape with the end pointy and skinny. The size of his steak may have been about the size of a deck of cards. The eggs were fine but, the home fries were dry and burnt. They were inedible. We brought this to our waitresses attention and she argued that she didn't know why because she had just made them that morning (aka-over 5 hours before. They were not fresh) My husband said to our waitress that he was still hungry. She didn't offer a substitution. He asked to see the menu to see what else he could eat. The portion size of his meal was very very small. He ordered fries to replace the dry/old home fries. My biggest pet peeve of the day and the main reason for the review, the staff and Arlene the owner were so busy making over the baby and couple in the booth in front of us, I couldn't even get their attention for a coffee refill. Even the hostess would walk right past us while I was trying to get her attention and make baby talk to the baby in the booth next to us. They even took the baby and carried her all around the restaurant. Between being ignored , being charged for a home fry replacement and my husband leaving still hungry. We won't be back. One of worst dining experiences in town. As a footnote, we've fined her about a 1/2 dozen times and never left 100% thrilled. This was it though. Sorry. read more

Took my wife for our 3 year anniversary and it was amazing. We'd never been before so figured we'd give it a shot and we will definitely be returning. Another try.... Well, after a bit of a hiatus due to a problematic couple of visits, my wife and I went to dinner after receiving a gift certificate from our neighbor for snow blowing them out during the major January storm. I'm so very glad we did! The service and food were back to their original status, both being very good! We shared the beet salad and two faced tuna appetizers and they were unique and very tasty. For our meals, my wife enjoyed one of the specials and I had the ahi tacos, both of which were solid fare. For dessert we split the bread pudding and it was top notch. Thanks CCWP for reminding me of what we originally loved about you and that your slight miss last spring was not to remain. We will be back soon. read more

Possibly the best restaurant in the Eldersburg area. But I would like to begin with the only bad thing about The Cork. Its size, it's on the small side to be kind. But the different table heights keep you from feeling like you are elbow to elbow with the person next to you. But, you will notice how small it is on crowded nights. Now for the good. The food is excellent. The specialize in seafood, and locally sourced meats. I have not had a single bad thing there. The meats are always cooked to perfection just like you ordered it. The service is friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. They have a great selection of wine, but they also carry some great craft beer selections. While their draughts are limited they have some great bottles to make up for it. And if you don't want a craft beer or fine wine they always have Natty Boh on tap. Been here a hand full of times, decided to try brunch with the family, ordered a half portion waffle and tenders for my 4 year old , was told by the waitress it would be $6, full portion is $12. I ordered build your own omelette $12 as well, I asked waitress if I could get crab meat INSTEAD of the 3 meat options, she said sure (no mention of extra charge), got the bill and the kid half portion was $8 and I was charged $6 for crab (the original price for my omelette with was $12, so it was now a $18 omelette, mind you the crab omelette on the menu was $12). Reminded the waitress she told us the kids half portion was supposed to be $6 and that she didn't mention the $6 surcharge for the crab. She came back after speaking to the owner, the kid charge stood at $8 and they gave me $3 off the crab. I guess the owner really needed the $5. Husband had ordered shaved lamb sandwich , he left half of it on the plate. Disappointed all around! read more

I was here in Oct '17 for my company's happy hour and the food, drinks and service was great. I came back on 4/7 for lunch thinking I would have the same experience...not. I ordered the lunch special. For $8 you get a house or Ceasar salad. The other salads are a $2 up charge. Of course, the waitress brought me a greek salad. I didn't say anything, I was so hungry I didn't want to wait for another salad. I had to ask for a wine list which I thought was odd since it's a wine bar. The Chardonnay tasted like it was opened a few days ago, no body what so ever. Again, I didn't complain, I just ate my salad and waited on my sandwich. The waitress stopped by glanced down at my empty salad plate and asked if there was anything else she could get me. I told her my sandwich. She laughed and said she had forgotten and thought that I had only ordered soup (there was no soup in sight) and she did apologize. My sandwich eventually came and it was good. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because the food was good. Everything else was blah. In defense of the waitress, she was the only server in the place at 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon, however the place only had a handful of customers. I was trying to be understanding of how hard it must be to go serve tables, the bar and run to the kitchen back and forth. Also, when my bill came of course the $2 salad up charge was there and the price of the wine was different than what their menu stated (higher). When it's "Date Night" with your wife, you want to go someplace nice, with better food than what you'd eat with the whole family, and enjoy a few cocktails. So, at my wife's suggestion, we opted for The Cork, particularly since we hadn't been there in a while, and it was nice the last time we went. WTF happened??? The wait staff was in jeans. The soundtrack was the Blink 182 playlist off of Pandora. And two giant TVs now dominated two of the four walls. I know it's picky, but this is supposed to be a classy wine bar, right? Our server was fine, though our appetizer plates remained on our table for the whole meal, and we were asked about dessert while still eating. That I can excuse. What I can't excuse was the food quality. Our appetizer of brie & pastry was a solid "meh", my wife's flatbread was described by her as tasting frozen, and my tuna tacos were nearly inedible. The fish was waaaaaaay over-salted, and tasted old and fishy. I rarely send anything back, and this would have been sent back if I thought something else could have stepped up and banished this Charlie Tuna memory. Unfortunately, everything else leading up to that had been a disappointment so, having lost faith in the kitchen staff, I just sucked it up and ate it. A wonderful unique eclectic restaurant in Eldersburg. As the name suggests, a great selection of wine. The food is thoughtfully prepared and the presentation is worthy of the best gourmet magazines have to offer. The Thai shrimp is a must. Actually everything is a must. I love the idea of the meat and cheese board (charcuturie) and the selections are what you'd expect from the best of France. The only single down point is the prosciutto which is not good at all. It's not silky and rich as one would expect but is dry and brittle (completely spoiled the board -- see the pic). Please change this for the better but then, everything else IS very good!! read more

I love The Cork. My boyfriend and I try to frequent every other Sunday for brunch, and occasionally my mother and I will go for small plates and wine. I only gave this review a 4 stars as sometimes service on Sunday especially is inconsistent (can be very attentive and speedy, some Sundays are very slow with getting food orders and not as focused even when not seemingly busy). I would also suggest that they train servers to mention menu changes, and also rename and reprice meals to differentiate between old favorites that contain certain ingredients, and modified new meals. My favorite dish was the Steak and Eggs with the Bearnaise sauce with the roasted corn and tomato salsa. After trying many brunch items over a 6 month period, I never ordered anything else after trying this dish. I was surprised to get a bare plate of literally just steak and eggs -- it was bland and uninspiring to say the least, and no note or mention on the menu or from the server that it had changed. I think The Cork is known for being a special little gem in Eldersburg, with more flare than the average, boring, family style restaurant. It was definitely a disappointment, and I haven't been back since. I would be encouraged if owner followed through on her word and offered something from their dinner menu that they could replace the ingredients to such a delicious meal that was once a spectacular menu item. I may call before coming in next time. Over all - besides my personal dissatisfaction with one entree, The Cork remains a great wine bar, with excellent live music with great deals and fresh ingredients. read more

Ugh. This place is way way way overrated. We had the crab and brie dip ap; no brie there. And very little crab. I had the fish tacos and my husband had the chicken remulade. Both were totally underwhelming. We have always liked this place but recently had a bit of an underwhelming experience. We ordered take out and ordered soup with that takeout. While the soup was tasty, the quantity was very small. We had pancakes, French toast, Belgian waffle, cork Benedict, bacon, sausage, juice & coffee. I tasted all just to be fair. So overall, again, just good not great. Food was quickly delivered but not hot when arrived. The variety of offerings was nice to see, definitely unique. I was excited to try it out. Just some friendly advice for the servers from a retired chef from Boston: when you ask a customer if they need a box for their very unfinished meal and they reply ," no, it's just that the duck has a strong game flavor and appears undercooked..I just can't eat it".....do NOT tell them they could have asked for it to be cooked more or explain that sometimes the duck comes that way. Instead , inform the manager who then should offer another meal or to take the meal off the bill. The chef, who works hard to prepare satisfying meals, also wants to know...I assume? When you then ask if anyone wants dessert and dessert is ordered by 3 of our 4 guests, you have yet a Second opportunity to provide the ' hungry ' guest with a sweet ending 'on the house' That would keep people coming back. My mom and I came here for Carroll County's Restaurant Week and we were honestly blown away! This little hidden gem has a gourmet menu that this foodie fell in love with. The wine pairings and the ambiance really set the tone for enjoying a wonderful meal. Our server was very knowledgavle of all the menu items and drinks and helped steered us in the right direction based on what we like. We recently hosted a baby shower here and it was wonderful! We have dined here before and decided that the space was perfect for our small gathering. The food was delicious and Arlene made everything so easy to coordinate. There were roughly 30 people and it was the perfect amount of space without feeling lost or overcrowded. I have always had good experiences at The Cork and have never tried the Sunday brunch. Also never had the waiter before and I was overall disappointed. I ordered the Chesapeake egg Benedict and asked how well they cook the eggs specifically are the whites runny because I didn't want them under cooked. The waiter responded "well they are poached", like I didn't know what I was ordering. When I got my meal there was not much hollandaise sauce so I had to ask for more. It was very bland and tasted like yolk and that's it. The Canadian bacon was really cooked and thin so there was not much there. Home fries were chewy and did not taste good. When the waiter came to pick up plates I asked if there was sugar on the home fries (to be sure) and said yes it's sugar and old bay. The menu made no mention of that so all you diabetics beware. I said I could not eat that and he's said "gotcha". That's it.....took my plate. By the way if you want a second glass of water you have to ask. Our glasses were empty for half the meal. The other meal we had was the Baltimore omelette and again bland. Also looked like two eggs instead of three. Can't be certain. In all fairness he looked to be the only waiter. A few others would clean up tables but I do tip based on service and do not blame the wait staff for quality of food. No one should. I didn't complain while I was there because it does not seem as friendly of a place anymore. Reading other reviews I see complaining while there didn't make much difference. I hope to try this place again in the future so I can update my review. I love local establishments because they are so unique and do support them. One last thing I wish they would have a happy hour that lasts till 7 instead of 6 so I can make it there once in a while after work. read more
