I love the food scene Downcity, but every once in a while, it's good to branch out! I visited The Cozy Grille for breakfast this AM with my best friend. The place was hopping at 8:30; a decent sign! The service was solid, and the food flew out of the kitchen. I ordered a cheese omelet, and subbed a fruit cup and gluten-free toast for the home fries and, well, regular toast. Both substitutions were accommodated at no extra charge, a touch I really appreciated! My cheese omelet was decent, and my only point of contention is the rubbery Kraft single with which it was garnished. The coffee was weak, but refills were plentiful. My bestie opted for 3 eggs, homefries, and bacon. Her meal made me sad that I avoided the potatoes! Both the fries and bacon were perfectly crispy. Our bill totalled $30 with tip. Simple, decent fare, solid customer service, and nice atmosphere...easy like Sunday morning! I'll visit again. read more

The food here is really good; my husband and I both say the chicken parm is the best we've ever had!! One of the other reviewers said the servers seem unhappy, but we've been here a few times and always get the same server, and I don't think he's unhappy about having to wait on people, he just has a serious personality lol, for lack of a better word. I must say, I like this place a lot better than the one on Warwick Ave! I used to HATE going to that one because it is ridiculously small, and substantially overcrowded, especially Sunday morning! My father still has a thing for that place and I keep trying to talk him into going to the one on Tiogue (as far as I know, the food is still the same!) I am so glad this one is more spacious, being as popular as it is! The only thing I feel would make it better would be if they had more to offer on the menu, since I always end up getting either chicken parm (which is excellent) or fish and chips. The other stuff is a little too much on my wallet or just not for me. However, from what I have tried here, it has been really good! Today is the day our furbaby crosses the rainbow bridge. We knew cozy grill has an outdoor sitting area, and went there with the hopes of sharing a last breakfast with our furbaby. We arrived to notice they have already started breaking down the patio for winter. My gf was devastated. I went inside and explained the situation, they were so great. Definately not a fan of this restaurant but like the last reviewer pointed out they do seem to have built up a customer base. When I first walked in, the atomosphere was definately not what I expected from a family restaurant. At dinner time, most of those eating in were either under 10 or over 50. It was also dimly lit and had a cat pee scent to the air. The music was definately not family restaurant style appropriate. It was sex music about "getting your freak on" and "licking you all over." The food was kind of pricey but I was willing to give it a shot anyways. I had ordered the grilled chicken wrap with lettuce & tomato and a side of french fries. Lets just say the wrap was more like a tomato & lettuce wrap with a side of chicken. There was barely any chicken in it and for the price paid for it, I expected more. However, the french fries were really good, although it is hard to mess up fries. As far as the service goes, it was mediocre. The waitress I had, didn't seem too interested in her job. Only checked on me once, and when she did check in, she didn't even walk all the way over to the table, she spoke loudly in my direction from the entranceway. And when the answer to her "how are things" question, was answered as "interesting", she chuckled and walked away. Many red flags were evident throughout my visit to this restaraunt and yet none of them were picked up by any of staff, with the exception of one of the bus boys noticing that I needed a takeout box (for almost all of my dinner). So needless to say, I will not be dining at The Cozy Grill in Coventry again. read more

My family and I went to The Cozy Grill in Coventry for the first time last night, and we were pleasantly surprised by how good the food and service was. The menu had a nice selection for everyone. We ordered the balsamic calamari for an appetizer and it was the best that we have ever had (YUM!!!). I will go back just for that. Our waitress Beth was fantastic, always checking on us to make sure everything was ok, she also refilled our sodas without having to ask. That is a huge plus in my book. I'm not a person who eats in Coventry often but when I do, I will be sure to go back to The Cozy Grill. read more

I should start by saying i have been a waiter for 18 years and i do NOT have high standards when eating out. I understand all restaurants have issues. With that said, i attended The Cozy Grill on Tiogue Ave. this morning and I never want to go back. Our server was a blonde woman with a British accent and the service was just blah. Not only was the server not very welcoming but she also never gave us her name or checked on us to see how our food was. I ordered the corn beef hash and it was awful. The outside was hard and almost burnt and the inside was totally mush. I decided I wasn't going to eat something that tasted that bad. I didn't see my server again until the 2 people I was eating with were done eating. She didn't come by our table until the end of the meal. I explained why I didn't eat my meal but she acted like she didn't care. She said that's how hash is made. She made me feel like I was wrong and she was right and never apologized. She gave me my bill and told me that nothing was wrong with that food and it must remain on the bill. Her attitude was that of "I'm right and this customer is wrong." Again, never saying "I'm sorry you didn't care for your meal." You know a apology goes a long way. If the food stinks at least the service should be good but the service definitely stunk too. I'm very unhappy with my experience and will not go back. The food and the service were unacceptable. read more

I have been here a few times before and have always experienced sub-par service, but today was the worst service I have had since coming to this local establishment. Came here or a good and hearty breakfast with some friends and didn't have the best experience. We were seated promptly which was nice; however, it took a very long time for our food to come out. The waitress was pleasant, but didn't continually check up on the table. I sat there waiting for a refill on my water for almost 10 minutes and the restaurant wasn't even that busy. The couple to the side of us sat down a good 10-15 minutes after we did and received their food before us as well. I know we were a party of four so it takes longer for the meals, but it's breakfast food; it shouldn't take longer than 15 minutes to get our meal. The food was standard and wasn't bad, but wasn't great. It was what you would expect at a local breakfast place for taste and portion. Once again, it was nothing special. Price was descent and I would say comparable to most breakfast places around. A friend of mine had an American Express, which apparently they don't accept. It is the only card they don't except and even though I know the fees can be a bit much for credit card transactions, is the place really too cheap to pay the fees? Overall food was okay, price was okay, and the server was nice, but the food took way too long. read more

I have been here(Warwick) multiple times for breakfast, as its near my house ( my wife would rate 3, she may rate be higher , if hash was not canned). I have never been for lunch or dinner. I typically get scrambled eggs, bacon, grilled english muffin with the home fries and sometimes pancakes. Scrambled eggs rate a 4..., bacon a 1 ( I always request extra crispy ,,its always limp) ,... grilled english is a 4..., home fries=2.5, I like a fluffy to light pancake..Theirs I could use for a boat mooring and I typically feel the powdery mix on my tongue and the syrup is seriously lacking. Pancakes rate a 1.5 . Coffee is a 2. Service is spotty so I rate a 3. Service attitude is always pleasant I rate a 5. Some times ( weekends ) there is a line, so others may rate higher. read more

I lived in Rhode Island many years ago .I came back from Colorado to visit Family so excited to have a Stuffie ,even called to make sure they had it.It was probably the worst I have ever tasted ,I know they can be different ,this one had one piece of clam the flavor was terrible . The Server did not really care . If I were you and I run a nice restaurant ,I would have taken the 2.99 off and I would not be writing this ,I did not eat it. Cozy, friendly (we love Karen but service is very good no matter who you get!) and the Portuguese eggs benedict is to-die-for! Seriously buckle-your-knees amazing. Having lived here for years, we finally tried this place and are so happy we did. It's all about the food for us (atmosphere is traditional breakfast place... Booths and HomeGoods decor) but it is sooo worth the visit for the tasty food. Outdoor seating area is on a deck in the parking lot but you can see Lake Tiogue across the street, so it's a nice place to sit. Great selection of omelettes (spinach and feta is a favorite but also lots of different veggie and meat combos) that come with classically delicious hash browns and a big stack of toast. Iced coffee is nothing special (no flavors for a coffee hobbyist like me) but my husband loves the fact that his regular coffee is hot and fresh and they keep it coming! They always have fun specials like bananas foster pancakes, crazy French toast and different benedicts to try. Never been for dinner but will try it soon! read more

my husband and I went last night because we had a coupon from restaurant.com. We ordered calamari and got it within 3 minutes. Obviously made in advance. It was soggy from the oil that was pooled in the bottom of the dish. Not terrible flavor but we do like our calamari crispy. My husband wanted to order the filet (which was on the menu online), however, we were told that was an old menu and they didn't offer it any longer. He went with the sirloin. It had absolutely no taste to it at all. To the extent that he salted it (he NEVER uses salt!). I ordered the pork cutlet special. When it came, it was two pieces smothered in cheese(not in description) and gravy. It was so nasty. The gravy had a funky taste I couldn't make out. I ate a quarter of the first piece and just couldn't force another bite. I had french fries as a side and they couldn't even get those right. Tasted like cardboard. Like they had been fried and then sat out for a very long time. It was very busy in there so maybe the regulars know to only order certain things. I have been to the Grille many times with friends and always enjoyed. Good food, reasonable prices. Finally had a chance to take my husband. He ordered Shepard's pie, lukewarm and very little hamburg if any, I had Thanksgiving turkey. Warm not hot just ok. When the bill came the prices were good till I saw the price for ice tea. $5.70 for two glasses, had I known I would have gotten water. Not cheap by nature just don't like being taken advantage of. My wife and I went there last sunday night 4-23-14 for dinner .We ordered the family style chicken which was advertised in the Coventry Reminder. The waitress told me we don't have any. That was it ,no explantation nothing. I told her it was advertised in the newspaper for every sunday , today is Sunday isn't it and. yes but we don't have any. I then ordered the fish and chips , wife had the ravoli and meatballs (2) of them they were the size of a major league baseball we took 1 home i tried one of the ravolis it tasted bad like it was made of dog food she ate 1/2 of them and took the rest home hoping the chickens would like them she was also up all night sick to her stomach. I will never go back there again not only was the" italian food " bad but the waitress was very impersonal to us i think if they advertise something they should serve it, the waitress could have given us an excuse anything but what she said. My parents checked out the Cozy Grill for breakfast a little while back and seemed to really like it, saying it was much better than Appetites (which used to be there before Cozy Grill). So my husband and I went in on a Saturday night, being in a simple burger-hungry mood. The thing you notice first as you come in is the smell of seafood. It's not very well confined to the kitchen. There was a 20 minute wait, so we opted for sitting in the area adjacent to the bar, but not at the bar itself. We ordered 2 new england clam chowders and 2 burgers. The chowder came out relatively quickly (and was actually really good, if a bit salty from reducing over several hours), the burgers took over 20 minutes (after finishing chowder) to arrive. We both ordered Medium Rare. He got Medium, I got Rare. I've asked for American instead of Provolone, but got Provolone anyway. My husband's burger came with no cheese, he asked for addition of American and got none. Also, we substituted regular fries that came with the burgers for the sweet potato fries and they were wretched. They came out really thin (more like chips) and very dark brown, signifying old frialator oil. Now, onto the burger quality. The beef must have been 98% lean because it tasted extremely bland. Also, it felt like it was not seasoned at all. Seriously guys, use some seasoning salt and get 85% lean beef - you'd be surprised how much happier your customers will be. With the upcharge for substituting french fries for sweet potato fries, each entree came to over $9, which is ridiculous considering the quality of food. We were the only people in the resturant last eveing and the Server was surley, belittling, and inattentive. Shame on them! We ended up leaving. Been there in the past, used to be a line out the door, not anymore. Also some of the ingrediients listed on the menu for a dinner entree sare not in the dish when served. Cutting Corners??
