My review is based on a take out order. Being from the bay area where we have places like The Boiling Crab or Kickin Crab, my review may be biased. First off, calling this establishment was horrible. I tried calling multiple times only to either be put on hold or get an answering machine. If it wasn't for my wife, I would have just gone for fried chicken. Anyways, after about 12 minutes of being on hold my order was taken. They said 30mins so I gave them 40. When I got there my food wasn't even ready and I still waited another 15 mins. Anyways, the food. We ordered the cajun shrimp mild. It was pretty good and when they say spicy...they mean spicy. The seasoning was good, but it was watered down and when it came time to peel our shrimp, they definitely were overcooked from all the steam. We also ordered garlic butter clams which was heavily seasoned with white wine. I felt like I was going to get drunk off of this dish, the wine was so overpowering. Last but not least, we ordered calamari. It was fairly decent, but it was obvious that they were deep frying everything using the same oil. You could practically taste the French fries. Overall, it's a fairly decent place for Stockton, as there isn't any other place like this in the city. My advice: don't order shrimp for take out & if u do, have them dump raw shrimp into the sauce just before they give it to you, I don't think you want to deal with peeling severely overcooked shrimp. read more

I came here again and I ordered the usual: 1lb of Shrimp and 1lb of Crawfish Spicy Cajun, Lava. I got what I expected (less than Boiling Crabs 1lb) but its whatever now. We ordered on the phone so it was ready to pick up as soon as we got there. Everything tasted average, but its a fix to my crawfish cravings. I ordered stripped clams and Cajun fries for appetizers and 1lb of hot Cajun shrimp with jasmine steamed rice. Clams we're delicious especially with the cocktail sauce but the Cajun fries were extremely salty. The shrimp was very good, just a little over cooked. Made it quiet difficult to peel them. We waited for them to notice us (seated ourselves), to be given water, to order, and waited 20-30+ minutes for the shrimp, then waited for the bill. Overall it was sort of an awkward atmosphere - dark and quiet - waited way too goddamn long for literally shrimp in a bag (!!!!!) with barely any people there. The lady said the spice in the BC-like sauce was nothin' and holy crap it was spicy af. Maybe we came on a bad night but not worth the trip. Drove from Modesto 4/05/18 To Crab Zone In Stockton, Ca Been here a few times pretty good food always order the same thing. However this particular day I came close to closing about 9:10. Ordered 1.5 lbs of shrimp head on Cajun lemon herb hot.. I picked my food up drove back home. Shrimp bag had at least a half liter of liquid Drowning the shrimp but the contrast of liquid to shrimp feces particles in my liquid was disgusting I tossed the whole 28 dollars in The trash.. Next day contacted manager to inform him, I didn't want a refund or another order Just wanted to let him know I was displeased he did not care.. so I'm On my way! I was extremely disappointed with the shrimp at The Crab Zone. I had been craving shrimp for a few weeks but didn't want to drive out all the way to Sacramento for Boiling Crab, so I found this place and decided to give it a try. I had read the reviews, and for the most part thought I knew what to expect - fresh seafood, with good flavors - which was not what I got. Service was very quick, there were just a few other tables seated. I ordered a pound of shrimp and got it promptly. The cajun sauce was a huge disappointment - it had the consistency of soup, there were massive chunks of garlic, and it tasted like they mixed up salt for sugar (was WAYYY too sweet). In previous reviews I had read that the shrimp overcooks in the metal bowl they serve it in, but I can confirm that the shrimp is overcooked regardless of the bowl it's served in. This meal was one of the saddest I've ever had because not only had I been craving shrimp for weeks, but most of the one pound of the shrimp was super mushy. I love this place! It's the only place in Stockton like it but it really is some of the best I've had. They have the best crawfish, always fresh. I swear it's better than firehouse and boiling crab. The sauce is good but it's more like a broth. The crab is also really good. My favorite sauce is the spicy cajun in medium. They also have the best customer service! OVERPRICED, over rated and no Flavor! Do not waist your money! Let me start off by saying it was a huge disappointment. What seafood spot that can't even serve what they have on the menu because they just don't got it?! I wanted a pound of snow crab (they didn't have it) and they also didn't have mussels. Plus when I asked for a certain flavor I was advised I can only choose between two other flavors?! I was confused. So the host said to order a half pound of king crab (so I did) and It was literally only 1 leg, cut into small pieces in a tiny bowl with all butter (no flavor). All I have to say is don't waste your time or money. First time there and last time there. When you walk in it's a very small crowded place, the host stand is so close to the door you have to squeeze in. Then they have a cashier stand at the very front. Kinda confusing, of to why they even have a host stand. They had one server working the floor while the other one is on break. Anywho we sat down and got our order taken, if you been to other crab seafood places you would think it's the same. Well not this place. We order two lbs of head on shrimp in their spicy Cajun sauce, Cajun fries, house fried rice and three drinks. The fries came out and they did not look good at all, the shrimps came out and it came out in this big silver bowl, the shrimp was in this water down broth, it had no flavor but just hint of the spiciness. Shrimp was hard to peel and over cooked. The fried rice was plain and had no flavor, the garlic that was in the rice wasn't even minced. There was huge pieces of garlic. We probably finished half the rice and the fries, probably ate like 10 shrimps and packed the rest of the shrimp. It was date night for my hubs and I so we decided to go somewhere we haven't gone before! We came here during a stormy night so it was empty (the way we like restaurants tbh lol) and so we were seated right away. We were told the clams and mussels were out and I've never tried crawfish before so I was like omg let's order this shiz! We ordered 1 lb. of crawfish with corn, a fried shrimp basket with cajun seasoning, and fried calamari. The calamari was good, it was easy to eat as it came as strips and had I believe ranch as the dipping sauce and a wedge of lemon. The fried shrimp basket was good (we actually ordered the fish basket but maybe they heard us wrong but we aren't even complaining because we love seafood.) We enjoyed the fries and we dipped everything in the sauce that the crawfish came in. Since I haven't had crawfish before, I knew that there must be a way to open it so I asked the guy how to do it and he gladly showed us. I mastered it quick while hubby took his time :p!! The place itself was clean and the service was great. The people were so polite and you can tell it's a family run business. We have kids ourselves so seeing their kids there didn't bother us. Everything came out to about $39 something including the drinks. We definitely will come back here since we don't always have free time to go to places like San Jose or Sacramento where the food game is wiiild. But we're not extremely picky eaters and are glad that they opened up a place like this here in Stockton :). read more

I've been wanting to try the place out but was a little skeptical. We got a table pretty quick despite it being really busy. The service I felt wasnt that great. The owner I think who took our order kept giving me a look when I was picking out my sauces that it was horrible so I kept second guessing myself and we werent getting checked on that much while the other tables were getting special treatment. Our water cups werent getting refilled and we kept on asking. And I was hoping to get our appetizer first but it came with all of our food so why even call it an appetizer. I'm not big on spicy sauces and I had my daughter and she doesnt like it either. I feel like it was over priced just because I can get wayy more at the store and cook it myself but me and my bf just got off work and were hungry and tired but wanted to go out for a family dinner. The shrimp and mussels we got in lemon herb with very little spicy was good but had a little kick so my daughter didnt want it and they forgot our corn and the lady came and just dumped in our bowl. And we got the king crab leg 1lb in garlic butter. My bf and daughter enjoyed it and I did too but it was a little too creamy for my taste. I just think we were starving and waiting for a long time that we didnt care too much. We arent customers who complain too much we just like to come in order and eat then leave especially when we have our kid. It looks like the crawfish there is huge because a lot of people were ordering but we have never tried it. I think if we were ever to go back I would want to try the full Dungeness crab because that looked way more appetizing that the king crab legs which were cut up and too soft to crack. The Crab Zone seems to be a "Love it" or "Hate it" kinda place for local yelpers and a few outta towners.. As for myself, I "Like" the place... I've dined here twice and had a take out order the other day... Let's start with the Crab, since it is the "Crab Zone"... I've had the butter and garlic crab two times and it was very good and well executed... However, I must say that i am no expert in Marine Biology, but I'm pretty sure that my crab was not a whole crab.. I mean there was definetley some missing body parts here.. If the little guy was born with some birth defects, then he should have been thrown back into the sea and maybe would have qualified for some underwater form of SSI from King Neptune... Anyways, If you are going to charge $30 plus, give me a whole f$?!ing crab... That's my only gripe with the crab zone... Give me more for my $$$ or lower your prices!!!! I've also tried the Cajun prawns by the pound.. These are very flavorful and can be combined with chunks of smoked sausage and red potatos if you really want to pig out... BEWARE.. You can choose your level of spiciness when they prepare your prawns.. I of course felt inclined to try their hottest "Lava"... I was even warned by our sever that it was super hot, but I just smiled and let my macho representative take over.. Well when I tasted my Cajun prawn feast it was what I could imagine would be the equivalent of licking the "Sun".. damm I blistered and squealed like a pig being butchered by Jimmy Dean (RIP).... Moral of the story, stick with the medium if you want to keep all your tastebuds intact... In addition to the prawns and crab I have also had the Crab Zone Cajun rice and hush puppies.. The rice is great and will make you want to be an extra in the marching band in a Zataran's New Orleans style commercial.... The hush puppies were pretty average and could not even hang with the flavor of the ones served at Long John Silvers... As for Crab Zone's overall ambiance, I would have to say that they are a very clean and friendly environment..I was checked on at least two times during my dining experiences here and YES I was given the proper silverware for all of you folks complaining about being given plastic eating utensils... You should really see you're primary careprovider if you're experiencing any allergic reations to plastic products.... Finally, there are large rolls of paper towels for each table.. Trust me this is a place where you can get messy, so go ahead and use away... Hug a tree afterwards if you feel bad... First and last time coming here... we came here on a Sunday for dinner. We had a party of 10 - (one party of 6 and another part of 4, 2 separate bill). Right when we walked in we were greeted with a mean attitude as if it was too hard to accommodate our ginormous party. After standing around for some odd minutes of waiting, they FINALLY figured some thing out. Our food was decent. The market price for ONE crab was $45.00... Holy smokes! anyhow we ordered; one serving of crawfish, one serving of headless shrimp, one serving of head on shrimp, one crab, shrimp basket, large rice, and large garlic noodles, 4 corn on the cob - TAB #1 $146.00 total. The other part ordered; one serving of crawfish, one serving of head on shrimp, one shrimp basket, one chicken tender basket, three sodas, and two corn on the cob - TAB #2 $75.00 total. The food was just spicy, no flavor. The waitress mentioned that the crawfish were frozen, but never mentioned how tiny they were. The crab we ordered, the waitress never brought us any metal crackers to Crack the crab legs. The owner himself tried to refill our cups of water and instead spilled half the pitcher of water on the ground... My bill for $145.00+ included a service charge of $20.33 that they decided to add into my bill. Never once did they mention anything about a service charge or have anything written on the menu or walls about a service charge. read more

If by crab "zone" they meant that they zone in on just one crab dish (the whole crab) and no other crab dishes, then I guess they're being accurate. Having "crab" in their name I thought I might be able to get crab legs, or crab cakes, or something else crabby, but nope, just the whole $45 crab. If you like shrimp and crawfish, there are lots of options for those. For kids, some chicken tenders. My dude got the shrimp (which he really liked but also upset his stomach for the rest of the night). No steak or chicken, so basically you've either gotta love whole crab (and be willing to fork over $45 for it) or you can get shrimp, clams or crawfish. That's about it for the menu. At first, I was excited that there was an actual crab/seafood in Stockton --something at least similar to the amazing reviews I've heard of The Boiling Crab down south. I went with my significant other for a double date with my friends. The decor was fitting, there were mirrors all around the walls (which was weird) and our waitress was nice and well-informed. Our group ordered the house crab, some shrimp (as recommended by the waitress), a bed of oysters, and a shrimp and chips sampler. The first to come out was the sampler, which was nothing but a few pieces of shrimp (like 2-3) and 10 fries. Disappointing, especially since it was around $9. As we waited for our other orders to arrive, we worried that the other plates would be just the same. Since the person who ordered the sampler wasn't going to be full, they ordered garlic noodles. The house crab (which was around $30-40, I would say) was not worth the money, something which we expected. There wasn't that much meat at all, and the flavor all but slid off from the heat and steam of the crab. The complimentary garlic noodles weren't too bad, but it's something I can make at home by myself and isn't hard to mess up. The oysters were pretty good, well worth the money. They were piled on a large pail of ice (there were only 4) with lemon slices. The shrimp, flavored with a medium spicy Cajun, were not that spicy, and not that flavorful. I would've been more let down if I didn't like shrimp, but that was the only highlight of the meal. I think if I bought a pound of shirmp and cooked it myself, it would've been more worth the dinner. Let me preface this review by saying that Crab Zone is in NO WAY comparable to Boiling Crab. Those of you who have been lucky enough to have the Boiling Crack know what I'm talking about. It's a nice little place; very spacious and gives off a cajun feel. We ordered the shrimp (head on) in medium cajun sauce and added sausage links, cajun fries, and garlic noodles. The noodles were so limp. They were the worst garlic noodles I've ever had. I guess I'm spoiled because we have some of the best garlic noodles in SF. Crab Zone's garlic noodles weren't toothsome, lacked garlic flavor, and were all around, a bad idea. I've made better garlic noodles at home using packaged ramen noodles. Sad, but true. The shrimp was okay, but overcooked...probably because they had been sitting in the boiling sauce for so long. The sauce, oh the sauce. Definitely doesn't compare to BC. It was pretty lackluster and watery. I hate to say it, but the best thing I had at Crab Zone were the fries..and fries are hard to mess up. OMG... that's all I have to say. This place was introduced to me from a HUGE CRAW FISH FAN, Linda Le. The first time I came here I got a pound of shrimp HOT with EXTRA garlic, but the waitress messed up and gave me LAVA HOT which was painful. The flavor is out of this world. I can't explain how delicious this place is. I drove all the way from SACRAMENTO to eat at this place. I prefer the shrimp over the craw fish here because theirs very little meat in the craw fishes. Their corn is a must when eating here and their garlic noodles are good as well. I would avoid ordering the fried clams and Cajun fries. Tried this place because of the lack of options in town (was looking for a place similar to Boiling Crab). The place was pretty good! We ordered the Dungeness crab that was drenched in some kind of garlic butter creamy sauce which I ended up eating with my shrimp! The cons to this place: 1- their prices ($55 for the crab, and $13.99 per lb for shrimp, which is ridic!). Even boiling crab does not charge that much! 2- the shrimp was overcooked. The shrimp was hard to peel, which suggests it was overcooked. 3- they charge for soda refills?! 4- the waitress we got, although somewhat attentive, had a bit of attitude. 5- their sauce was watered down (like everyone has been saying), and the only thing tolerable about it was the level of spiciness. read more

this place, ugh this place... the garlic butter crab was not good at all and drenched in thick sauce that didn't add to the flavor. The actual crab meat tasted....hmm...best way to describe it was reheated and phony, like eating unflavored couch cushion foam. The mild lemon garlic shrimp is delicious, along with the garlic noodles that they have. A good place for large groups and an easy location to be found.
