We were visiting from St Petersburg for Easter, and my father-in-law wanted to go here for dinner. It's not much too look at from the road, and you make your way through the bar to the back dining room. It's really cute, kind of rustic with awesome views of the lake. The booths are big and pretty comfortable. Service was friendly, and our waiter checked back with us frequently. We opted not to do the Easter ham dinner and stick with​ fresh fish. I had fried fish and shrimp; I got a ​nice size filet of fried fish and a handful of shrimp. Both were moist, crispy and not greasy​. I ordered fries, and it came with a small side of cole slaw. My husband had fish and chips​ and got two big filets of fish with fries and a side of slaw. Both were really good. We also​ ordered a side of hushpuppies. There were about six fried hushpuppies in a basket. They were pretty dark and looked like they might be overcooked​​. Surprisingly they were dark but didn't taste​ burnt; the centers were soft and not dry. It could have used some ​sauce to go with it. The food was not good and the service sucked. We came after spending the entire day scuba diving at Alexander springs. After a long day we just wanted to relax and grab some local food. We walked in and couldn't tell if it was a biker bar or a restaurant. The entire restaurant is made up of locals who probably are limited on places to eat. We ordered nachos and wings FYI be warned it's not actually nachos it's a taco salad. With no melted cheese just cold chips salsa and ground beef with cold shredded cheese. When the wings arrived I almost thought we had a dry rub with a very bland oily sauce that I couldn't tell the flavor. The Tea tastes like water. The waitress never once asked us if we needed anything or a refill except when we came in seated ourselves and we sat for about 5 mins and she finally asked if we needed menus. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. Do the exact opposite of what we did, trust the reviews! It's a 3 star restaurant for a reason. We were there Oct 16. There were 6 of us dining outdoors. We felt the server didn't listen to most of what we sad. We waited 20 minutes for refills on our drinks. We collaboratively felt we were bothering her. She was in a red jersey. She had absolutely no customer service skills and was frustrated if we had questions. Upon receiving the bill, everything was wrong. Had she just had a different attitude, this review would never have been posted. This is a regular stop of ours. A friend and I went here for for lunch the other day- The weather was perfect but sitting on a patio with smokers wasn't pleasant, so we moved inside. I can only speak to one experience of take out here but it was a good one. The place was empty as it was mid-day and they had just opened but the space is very large with a smaller outdoor patio. I will say walking in the smell of the bathrooms greets you which was most unpleasant. Upon entering I was greeted by a very strong smell of urine and cleaner smell. Blah! This place has been a hit and miss with us. Me and my fiancee have gone about four times looking for good local food in the area that isn't a chain. We are somewhat disappointed. The wings are not that great... I like my wings smothered in sauce and every time it always looks like they just throw the sauce on. And they make mediocre burgers. The ABSOLUTE WORST restaurant I have EVER been to. Had the lobster bites x 6 people and more than $10.99 person. Each plate had 6 TINY lobster bites and woyld you believe 6 french fries? I had to order extra fries and got may be 10. No drinks just water. Bill came to $77 Waitress was flat and unattententive. Will definately not go back. We are year round residents so we figured the extra tiny portions were because of tourist season as restaurants usually give smaller portions as they know tourists dont know any better. First off I want to say their food is amazing however what I heard as a customer tonight was very upsetting. 2 employees were talking about a women they called Denise and calling her a tyrant, how bitchy she is to everyone that works there and how she is just a mean person. I stopped my waitress and asked who Denise was and they said their manager. WOW!!! First off shame on them for talking to where I could hear this, second shame on Randy for allowing a person like this to treat his staff this badly. I have met Randy a few times when in there and he is a very nice man however to allow your employees to be ran by a "tyrant" as the 2 were talking is terrible. I don't know if its a Florida thing to give an attitude, but it didn't bother me much. This establishment does not have active management/ leadership and their server was incredibly rude. I wish I could tell you how the food was, but we never got it. We came into the restaurant around 8pm and left around 9:30, still hungry. When we sat down, there was only one other party in the restaurant. We ordered our food and waited. I watched as every other party around us ordered and received their food. I tried not to make any assumptions and asked the server why all the parties that showed up long after us received their food first. Her response was that the other parties ordered simpler meals, and she also exclaimed that all parties arrived at the same time. Untrue. There was about a 20 minute period between when we arrived and the other three parties. Not to mention the other parties were holding burgers and fish, while we waited for a grilled cheese, chips and salsa, and a fish and shrimp basket. The server told us "you will be ok", and walked away. We decided since we were hungry, to stay seated since we had time invested. Waited 15-20 minutes, still no food. We decided to leave. Upon exiting, the server stopped us and apologized for the first time in the entire visit and explained that they only have one chef in and three servers. We explained that from a service standpoint, it would have been great to hear that at the beginning or even throughout the course of our visit. I went to explain (very calmly might I add) to this young woman how this could look as we were the only people of color sitting in the establishment. This woman scoffed, yelled "oh my god, you can leave" and stormed away from me. I would not recommend this restaurant if you are a person of color. We went at 9pm so that was our first mistake.. We walked in and the bartender didn't acknowledge us until about 10 mins later. A drunk customer actually showed us where we could sit. I asked for a drink menu and was told there wasn't one? We got 2 Bud Lights instead and they were awful.. the flattest beer I've ever had. I told the bartender that and she took only 1 off our bill. We asked to order the gator bites and they were out (a place called the crazy gator was out of gator?). We then said whatever let's just get the chicken chunks at this point. We ordered the 20 piece. The one good thing is they gave us way more than 20 - nearly double I'd say. I was so confused because the ratings seemed good, but never again will I go back there. read more

This poor place. It's right on the water, Lake Eustis, in a killer spot but it's lacking. We sat and waited about 5 minutes just to get a menu and another 20 for our round of bloody Mary's. Then our food came out cold. I got a chicken sandwich and the cheese on top was so cold when I cut it the whole thing came off onto my knife. The girlfriend had wings and those were cold too. Mother in law ordered a wrap and got a sandwich. We felt bad because the poor server was literally running the inside bar and the whole outside patio all by herself. They need to step their game up on preparing for larger crowds when they know it's going to be a crazy busy weekend (the art festival with over 200,000 people the next town over). Walked in to get dinner one night. It was only 8:15 and they didn't close until 9. They told us they weren't taking anybody else in the dining room because the chef wanted to "get out early". We told them it was only 8:15, and it was a Friday night! They were very rude and disrespectful! We ended up leaving and taking out business elsewhere! It was such a disappointing experience, but I can't say I am surprised. I've never heard much good about Crazy Gators. Certainly won't try again, nor ever recommend them to anybody else! I had my daughters baby shower there on Sunday and it was incredible. I have to admit when I went to decorate and there were people in the room I was a little upset but Bill took good care of us. We were understanding of the situation however our service was beyond awful. 2/4 entrees were incorrect & one entree was never even brought to the table. Drinks were empty the majority of our visit, wrong beers were brought to the table. We never received silverware at any point during our meal. Once we were all finished we still hadn't received the missing entree. There was ZERO management on staff & the employees didn't care about the problems whatsoever. Finally pinned he down and order 2 specials. Got drinks. Then nothing. Meanwhile, wait staff made no less than 100 passes past us. Here we sit. One asked if we needed anything. My wife said, yes our dinner (she is the calm one) waitress disappeared. After 45 minutes of no food we left. Customer service poor. Wait staff running around in circles. No organization. No one visibly in charge. Did have one large table, no excuse for the poor performance. Or for the lame excuse from the owner when I addressed my concern. We wont be back. Quick Review: Overpriced and offensive. Full of snowbirds that don't mind waiting half an hour for fried food. I am so upset at you yelpers that are misleading people. If you don't know what you're talking about, DON'T YELP! This place is gross. Not convinced? Allow me to elaborate: Our server disappeared for 35 minutes after our drinks arrived (10 minutes after we seated ourselves after 5 minutes of waiting at the hostess station.) Our drinks were never refilled and we never saw our server to ask for her to do so. Our food was greasy, diner fare which is fine except that their prices reflect a restaurant price scale ($14.50 for frozen french fries and a handful of deep-fried (out-of-a-bag according to server) gator tail. RIDICULOUS! The food is not terrible, just totally overpriced. We were out the door when our server dramatically chased after us "wait--your food is ready" and then plunked it down without an apology or offer to comp even our drinks for the insane wait time. She said something about a party upstairs then disappeared again. Addtionally, the view from inside the restaurant is not all that great. Again, misleading yelpers... In hindsight, we should have scoped the bluehaired Northerners in the restaurant, immediately figured out that this was a tourist trap, and got the hell out of there. read more

We didn't get to sample the restaurant, so this review is for the bar only. This place is a local hang out for sure, and when we arrived the only menu options left available were things that could be fried. We opted for the cajun fried gator nuggets & a large order of wings (half buffalo, half garlic butter). Our server was Brandi, who was super sweet and very helpful. When I asked her for directions, she offered to show us the way back if we could wait until closing, which was only an hour or so away. In the mean time, we sampled our gator (delicious!) and the wings (good but maybe fried a little too long?), a couple of brewskies, and good conversation with the local flavor. Everyone we interacted with here was incredibly friendly. One of the bar tenders created a cute flower with a napkin, straw & lighter that he gave to me, which I thought was adorable on his part. The bar itself is pretty cool- the wood is heavily glossed with a photographic timeline of the history of Eustis. The cook told us that the photos were original and had been taken from the library, adding a really interesting and home-grown touch. If the bar ever closes, I hope they give the wooden panel to the library to display on their wall! If we ever find ourselves back in Eustis, this will be one of the places we'll drop into. We were welcomed with wide open arms. The only reason it's not a 5 star review is because the beer selection is lacking. Otherwise, I love this place! read more

We have friends in the Eustis area, locals you might say. Who swear by THE CRAZY GATOR and its' owners, The Robin Family. On vacation this past Winter, our friends bought us to THE CRAZY GATOR. To sample the vibe, the cuisine, the bar, etc. Everything our friends said it would be. Not only is the food made to order, delicious, served piping hot and by attractive, friendly wait staff - But the owners swing by and often to check on the tables - Make sure everyone's happy, everyone's getting what they need, etc. Kids are often viewed as a nuisance by other places, thus families are almost discouraged from bringing them/too many of them. At THE CRAZY GATOR kids are treated as royalty - it's between McDonald's and THE CRAZY GATOR which place, which restaurant - kids love more. There's a relaxed local vibe where you just feel, I don't know, WELCOME. Like you're in Jamaica, or Bermuda, THE CRAZY GATOR'S unlike any place you've ever been to - just such a relaxed and uplifting vibe. The Bar's to-die-for - and it's one of those places you go right from dining to the bar area and to mix in with whomever's there. NIRVANA might be a better name for THE CRAZY GATOR - Our friends told us it's about their 100th time there - and every few months the Robin's will pick up their check - tear it up - The loyalty with the community works both ways - The Robin Family is there for the community. The Eustis and surrounding communities are there for the Robin Family/staff. It might be of some note that the owner was recruited and played for Cornell, a highly sought after high school star - Had his choice of Universities, schools. Stopped in for a quick bite. Sat at the bar. The bartender was terrific. Attentive and made suggestions. There are some good happy hour specials. Went with a bacon cheeseburger with tots and some wine. Pour was generous! Burger was cooked perfectly and was delicious. So many times burgers lack flavor as well as the bacon. This one was delicious on both counts. Only complaint was the Burger was so big it was difficult to pick up and eat. Really enjoyed this place! Came back yet again. Service is lacking. Fourth time here. Sat at bar. Took a while to be noticed. A service person walked by headed to regulars at the other end of the bar. Would have been nice to hear: "Hi! Welcome. Someone will be with you in a minute." Nope. Bartender came by and we ordered drinks. He was very helpful. Finally( our hesitation) ordered food. Took quite a while for it to arrive. Kept being told that it was coming. Eventually told it was being held up to get the wings extra crispy. When they arrived, they weren't extra crispy and they weren't extra warm. My wife's food was not hot either. Got the check and left a good tip. Weren't told thanks for stopping by. Most staff interaction was with a group of regulars at the other end of the bar. They were extremely loud and used strong language. I'm not a prude, and I understand that bars are rowdy sometimes. I also know that staff cater to regulars. Had wanted to try this place for a while and was finally able to. If you want to sit outside and you're not up for losing a lung to second hand smoke, don't. We sat inside but still had to breathe it as we were near the door. The food here was nothing special. We got onion straws as an app and they were room temperature when served to us. Tasted ok but man, serve them hot. My son got the fish sandwich and man it was huge. He seemed to like it. Wife and daughter got the shrimp and food was again room temperature. Even the fries weren't hot. I got an order of wings and they were actually good. The biggest issue, other than cold food, for us was the service. It was extremely slow and the place wasn't even close to half full. Maybe this is why all our food was cold? We were there for at least an hour and our waitress never once refilled our drinks even though they were low for a long time. Other than when the food was brought to us, I don't think they checked on us once. Just really bad/slow service. She was awful. And, although I'm not one of those crazy mask people, I do think severs should wear them. So if that's important to you, then beware of this place. Overall this place had potential.
