Seriously, where else have you ever seen breakfast quesadillas, catfish and grits, cheesecake cornbread waffles, smoked brisket hash, deep fried pork ribs, catfish, mushroom, and alligator tacos, and a Puerto Rican Rice Bowl all happily living in the same menu's neighborhood? And then, the icing on the cake was our server - a charismatic and uber-friendly gent named Bromwell who lights up the room with his personality. He made my list of the five greatest servers I interacted with this year. The restaurant's location is as unusual as its menu. You'll find it occupying the front space at the Suffield Commons Senior Living Apartments! Yup, as you walk through the restaurant and out their back door, you actually enter a common space for the housing complex. The restaurant itself has two dining rooms with booths, tables, and chairs and a bar with dining room chairs. That eclectic menu is chock full of breakfast, lunch, and dinner choices with Mexican and barbecue flairs. We were there for lunch and ordered two things. The first was an enormous Cheese Quesadilla ($9.35) with pork ($3.12) on a grilled flour tortilla served with sour cream and pico. It was a thing of beauty, cut into five thick wedges loaded with smoked pork. Our second item was a Caesar Salad (Half size for $6.23) with a side of smoked brisket ($9.36). I passed on the croutons and Caesar dressing in lieu of barbecue sauce as my dressing. I gotta tell you, the brisket was GREAT, a big serving of tender and juicy smoked beef cut into four slabs that must have totaled close to a half pound. We loved everything about Fire On the Mountain and agreed that we need to return for a proper breakfast when we are out that way or making a morning airport run. This is one absolutely fantastic restaurant and I was very, very impressed with the quality of smoked meat they are producing. This restaurant is employing true Pitt masters who know what the heck they're doing with their pits. It's nice to see a taste of Texas in Connecticut.

The ham was around $130, but was almost 22 pounds, so I'd say an excellent price for such a high quality product. Wow, will order again.

CONCEPT: The shop sells a wide variety of smoked meats, including pork, duck, and chicken, with a small inventory of smoked fish. Meats for home smoking or grilling, such as boar and venison burgers, are also available. Sandwiches are available at the counter. ATMOSPHERE: The shop is small, requiring customers to make a loop around the perimeter of the shop before returning to the check out counter with packages of meats at hand. EXPERIENCE: I was in the area during holiday season and picked up smoked bacon and smoked duck breast. These items greatly enhanced the holiday meals I prepared for family. TIPS: Although expensive due to the necessity of chilled and expedited shipping packages, Nodine's products can be purchased from their website and shipped.
