Old school breakfast place!!! I am getting tired of fancy looking restaurants with long lines, that are expensive with mediocre food. This is not that type of place. This is a simple breakfast place that serves really good food at a good price. I got the French toast plate that came with eggs and bacon. Honestly, the eggs were perfectly cooked over easy and the bacon was really good. The French toast was simple and good which was exactly what I wanted. My wife got the bacon avocado omelette with cottage cheese and toast and she really enjoyed that too. To be honest when we first walked in my wife wasn't super stoked about the place because the table was not clean when we sat down. The reason I am giving this place only 4 stars is because the bathrooms were not clean and appealing they had watered down soap, no toilet seat covers and the soap dispenser on the wall doesn't work. Also, they couldn't find coffee to refill our coffee. Otherwise I would definitely recommend this place. read more

Frustrated at the crowds at Hash Kitchen, I ventured a little further down W Ray Rd and stumbled upon The Crowned Egg and...WOW. The atmosphere is much more welcoming-Amber, my server, was super attentive to my needs and has a great personality-she excels in her role and really set the bar high for service. The food itself was really, really good. I got the Mango Coconut French Toast, then "made it a meal" for $2 adding two over easy eggs w/bacon. Eggs and bacon were cooked perfectly and the French toast did not disappoint in any way...actually exceeded all my expectations, as did the entire experience. Such terrible service. My family and I arrived hungry and ready to eat. we asked for outdoor sitting simply because it was a nice morning. We were told 15-20 minutes. 25 minutes go by.... still waiting. I ask how much longer, the hostess says she doesn't know since we asked for outdoor sitting. I then changed my request to sit inside hoping it would go much faster. She said ok, I'll have to talk to someone to change it, she goes inside and doesn't come back. I was glad to hear my wife mention that another Crowned Egg location had opened for business. It sits in the SE strip called "The Park at San Tan" located on the corner of Ray / Federal roads. Only a few blocks west of the Loop 101. It has a nice size dining room and outdoor seating available as well. Its been awhile since we've had breakfast at TCE's other location and we received the same great quality food and service as we did in the past. If you're a homestlye breakfast fiend this is your spot. This family owned and operated business deserves the recognition from their food, friendly staff and hospitable service. P.S. Wow! So glad we found this place! I had the Chorizo Platter and asked to have a side of their homemade green and red salsa's and so glad I did! Truly authentic throughout and not overly spicy for those that don't like it too hot. The homemade beans are the real deal too! My wife had the chiken (spelling intentional, you'll see from the menu) and it was one of the most tender chicken fried steaks I've ever had. If you're looking for a great homemade cooked breakfast then check this place out. It's family owned with the dad in the kitchen cooking away and the kids working the tables. So my family and I spent our Saturday on the east side of town this past weekend. We planned on checking out Scheels and doing some other shopping in the area. We stumbled upon The Crowned Egg because we wanted a late breakfast. When we first walked in we noticed it was small but had a good homely feel and the aroma from the kitchen peaked our interest. We were immediately sat down and handed our menus and was informed of the specials and recommendations by our server Carlos. I had the carnitas skillet with green sauce and hash browns also topped with over medium eggs. I was pleasantly pleased with the portion size and the delicious taste of my entree. My wife had the pancakes and eggs breakfast plate and she was just as equally delighted with her food. We don't come to this side of town that often but I definitely would eat here again and try some of their other items. I went looking for a new breakfast place and one that isn't so commercialized. Found this on yelp for stars so I thought oh I'll give it a try. Well it's tucked away in a nice little shopping center at Ray and The 101. Nicely decorated nothing fancy but you don't need fancy for breakfast. I had the best chili l Reanos have ever had in my life. I added extra Carnitas to it and it was phenomenal. I'm pretty much a stickler for good Chile Riano's but it was one of the top ones I've ever had in my life. I companion had Benedict and she loved it also. Service was great we got seated right away, she took our drink order right away and came and took our order. Food: was good my husband had the California eggs Benedict with bacon on the side, the sauce was really good nice and buttery served red potatoes or hash browns we got red potatoes they were good. Food was delicious. The menu was great - many classics but some with a New Mexican influence. I'm super picky about my poached eggs, and the cook knocked it out of the park. The poached eggs were perfectly runny in the center and the white was cooked through. Their carnitas were moist and flavorful. My whole family enjoyed their meal. The pricing was fair. I'd give is 4.5 stars because I really feel this place could step it up in the decor; it overall is a mom-pop diner feel which is maybe what they're going for. I've been walking by The Crowned Egg for about a month now whenever I go on nightly walks and it has been catching my eye repeatedly. Finally, this morning while trying to figure out what to do for brunch, my wife and I remembered The Crowned Egg. We gave their menu a quick lookover and decided we're going to try it out and are glad that we did. We ordered to-go since we only eat at home during this COVID Environment, and the ordering process went very smoothly. My wife got a Country Skillet, and I got the Chorizo Platter, as my rule is to always judge a restaurant based on its chorizo (if they serve it). The Country skillet was excellent -- it was a good amount of food (esp for the price), and was all high quality, fresh ingredients. There were plenty of yummy veggies in it that hit the spot for a moderate breakfast. About half of it is in the fridge right now as the wife couldn't finish the plate. My Chorizo Platter was fantastic. It came with large chunks of chorizo which were seasoned excellently. It had chopped jalapenos throughout with some onions that really brought a full flavor to it as it was served over hash browns. The refried beans were fantastic and exactly what comes to mind when I think of homestyle beans, and the over-easy eggs had not a bit of solid yolk in sight -- perfectly cooked. We were worried that this place wasn't going to make it through COVID as so many businesses have been struggling, but my taste buds are saying that I'm going to be returning and I'm sure anyone else who gives it a shot will too. read more

I'm so excited that this sweet little spot opened up in this neighborhood. The space needed some love and the family that opened this restaurant definitely brought the love. I had the chorizo platter. It came with homemade chorizo, homemade refried beans, eggs, and a side of jalapeños and flour tortilla. It was sooooo good. Seriously. I can't even begin to explain how delicious every thing was and at the perfect price point too. Our server was Janet (I believe that was her name, sorry!) and she was super kind and attentive, always made sure our water cup was filled too. We like to have Sunday breakfast but haven't in a number of months due to COVID. When I saw all the great reviews of The Crowned Egg I knew we had to try it. I called in our order for pickup Sunday morning around 9:15 and they said it would be ready in 10 - 15 minutes. I had the meat and eggs (pictured) and my husband had the Bacon Avocado omelette. (No picture he ate it too quickly). The food was ready when I arrived. The place seemed full but they were doing a great job of social distancing as only every other table was used. All staff wore masks. We both thought the food was very tasty. Some places drown everything in oils but here you can taste all the great flavors. I do wish they'd have a gluten free toast for my husband but other than that it was perfect! We will frequent this place! read more

We enjoyed a shared plate of Chicken Fried Steak served with hash browns (you can choose red potatoes) and 2 eggs. Gravy and steak were good. Smaller portion than comparably priced restaurants. Has browns had a crispy to and soft potato - very good. Eggs were tasty. This spot is new so I think they are still building the interior feel. The ambience hasn't been crafted just yet. I used my Yelp app to help me find a place for breakfast not knowing the area since I am only in AZ for work. Had a hard & long week. Eating the safe oatmeal all week at hotel. Was hoping for a good breakfast and a pleasant atmosphere (I sat outside under shade w/a water fountain nearby so it was quite peaceful & pleasant). These days a friendly and courteous staff can be hit or miss and I get it. These days I try to remember an expression I saw recently " there are staff shortages everywhere be nice to those who show up" Anyway, not only was the food and atmosphere on point at least for me, but the staff was the icing on the cake. A family owned and operated restaurant serving traditional American and a few Mexican dishes. One of my favorites is the veggie omelette with plenty of fresh spinach, red bell pepper, mushrooms and more. Pancakes are the best too! Drip coffee is just ok, I prefer the cold brew. Carlos is the man to see. I like catching up with him on my almost weekly visits. Just feels good to go local. PS you can go vegan ordering potatoes and veggies with salsa.
