First time trying this place...and it was..amazing! The food was ready just on time for pick up. I had the octopus for the appetizer, ropa vieja, chicken cazuela and the paella cubana. The paella cubana was my favorite! Everything was very well seasoned and flavorful. The place looked very nice inside and I can't wait for everything to go back to normal so I can eat inside one day! They have plenty options on the menu and there are plenty of items to choose from. I definitely want to try the chicken sofrito next time and the desserts! The rabo was really nice and soft, fell off the bone and had great taste. The rice and beans were good. Also ordered the lechonerito with yuca and morro ( roasted pork with onions on top, yuca and brown rice and beans) the yuca wasn't bad, the morro was good. I am giving this place 2 stars because the servers were nice and super attentive, however the mango rum punch was way too strong it ruined the taste of the drink. I asked them to tone it down which they did, but the bartender sucked because the taste was off. I've been to The Cuban in garden city and had the same drink, and when it's made correctly it's FANTASTIC !!! On to the food, I had the Ropa Vieja and a side order of Maduras. The food was bland, and the rice was basic, the beans were ok and the maduras were dry. Such a huge disappointment after being at the Garden City location where the Ropa Vieja and rice and plantains were so delicious, The only thing is, this place was recommended to me by friends that know good Cuban food. So my only assumption is they have different chef's, and the Monday chef sucks, which would explain all the mixed reviews. This a little hidden gem in the area. The food was good and the drinks were strong (recommend their mojito). Also, a beautiful host at the door. The decor was nice and good cuban vibe. Corona virus has basically turned the first half of my 2020 into lots of home meals. Fortunately for me, I took note that the Queens location of the Cuban was finally going to open before the shutdown and was just waiting for it to open. We're frequent patrons of the Garden City location and we love the decor and atmosphere of that location. When I got to step into the Bayside location to pickup my takeout order, I got a glimpse of all the work they did in the former bar space and it was bright, spacious and has a more beachy feel that the LI spot. Food was of course on point and their ropa vieja, cuban sandwich, paella and other standards are just as excellent as their original location. The food here is excellent, reasonably priced and never disappoints. I can't wait to actually be able to sit down in their beautiful space when NYC finally reopens. I went to the Cuban the other night with my wife and sister for the first time. We have yet to find good Latin food in the area so we were excited to try the Cuban. I ordered double cooked crispy pork with rice & beans which was OK but not great. A little dry but had good flavor for about 24 bucks which was fine. My wife and sister decided to split one of the specials that the waitress was pushing which was a sampler for two. The sampler included some chicken, sausage, three shrimps and three bite-size pieces of steak. As advertised it was for two. With the menu itself seeming to be fairly reasonable price wise my wife and sister ordered the sampler for 2. We enjoyed ourselves and had a nice dinner. The food was OK, nothing incredible. When we got the check we find the sampler to be $150!!!! And the bill was 300.00 before tip!!!! Are you kidding me? We could've went across the street and gotten a porterhouse steak for 2 at Uncle Jacks for less or eaten unlimited steak at the Korean barbecue for 40 bucks. $150? Seriously? They absolutely ripped us off and pushed something that is unreasonably priced intentionally. How can you push something as a special without mentioning that it cost $150???? And the thing is that it was nowhere near worth the price! There was hardly any steak and shrimp and the rest was just fairly dry chicken & decent sausage. It was nowhere In comparison to the prices on the menu and was an obvious scam. After having a fun time out this absolutely killed the night and we will never return to this place ever again! I think Milo's in the city is less than that, and theirs is a 9.5 compared to this which I would rate a 6.2 I felt a little badly to have tipped the girl only $25, but the only way to show my displeasure aside for doing this, which I have only done 2 or 3 times ever. I own a restaurant in the city so I am not quick to criticize other places, because I know how difficult it is to get everything right all the time, but I'm writing this still In the car on my way home while my wife is driving, because I couldn't wait till I got home. Was in the mood for some authentic cuban cuisine sadly I got really bad quality expensive food! I ordered la pechuga a la plancha because on the menu they described it pretty good and for $20! I expected a juicy chicken breast maybe some salad on the side and i was really looking forward to the corn but i received a bed full of ICEBURG LETTUCE with tiny bits of corn AND DRY CHICKEN! Delicious food!!!! After eating it all, we couldn't decide what we liked best. We called for Lunch menu pick up during these Covid times and we loved everything. Since we didn't have experience with Cuban besides pork sandwiches, we decided to try four different lunch entrees. Ropa Vieja, Churrasco Cubano, Vaca Frita Cubano and Picadillo Classico. All beef entrees, all delicious. Perfectly seasoned and prepared. They have an outside eating area but we can't wait to eat inside the restaurant when things get back to normal. I came here with my parents and my sister expecting delicious Cuban cuisine but instead I was given an expensive bill for terrible food. The service was fine but the food was so disappointing. Attended lunch with a friend today and thought the food was great. We arrived at 1:00pm and was seated downstairs (1st level), across from the bar. Apparently seatings were not available upstairs, so we sat at a table directly across from the bar where the loud sound of the ice machine to make their cocktails kept on going off. It was loud and hampered our dining experience, especially when trying to have a conversation. We ordered main courses along with the option for unlimited brunch cocktails such as mimosas. The mimosas had no champagne. They were pre-made in pitchers so it lacked any bubbles and tasted of pure orange juice. It was a rip off - if they can't offer proper mimosas, they should just stop offering that as an option. I would be happy to return if seating location is better and not on the first level, with loud crushing ice noise coming from the bar and the ugly view of the kitchen section with dirty trash bins in the corner as I am eating. I love Cuban food and have had it all over the United States. The Cuban looked good in photos, but ended up being disappointing in person. The food was expensive - $62 for the sea bass special - but seasoned terribly: either oversalted or flavorless. The paella was dry, as was the salmon. Ropa vieja was decent, but that was the only dish out of six that we liked at all, and even it was salty. The dancing was fun, but they don't need to blast the music at 11 in such a small space. Came in for bottomless brunch at 2:30 on a Saturday. Was initially for 2pm but we ran late so i updated the time on my reservation. We were seated then told we couldn't do bottomless bc they stop at 2:30 due to the 90min limit. Waitress offered to still give us bottomless for the remaining 30min but that made no sense so we still ordered off the brunch menu but got regular drinks from their cocktail menu instead. My "frozen " raspberry margarita was more like a watery slushy and my friends electric strawberry lemonade (i think that's what it was? ) was refreshing as expected but very little to no alcohol content. I still ordered another bc well, that's just what i do ‍ Food though! Food was very good. She got the churro breakfast, soo sweet and satisfying. My huevos cubano (something i wouldn't typically order but decided to try something different for once) was a pleasant surprise. That corn tortilla under the hash browns And poached eggs really added a subtle sweet to my salty and i was here for it. so this place is new to bell and new to queens. it has good food and people are very and I mean very helpful with menu and explaining things to everyone there. the place would have gotten the 5 stars but they had no cuban coffee. This review is for the service. As soon as I sat down I was asked three times if I was ready to order an appetizer. I had just sat down! The worst part was there was no social distancing at all. The tables were on top of each other. I appreciated the owner asking 3x if everything was good. I don't appreciate the owner coming to us without a mask bending down to ask. Otherwise the food was very good. The entrees were expensive but big portions so it's worth it. The drinks didn't have a price on the menu so when we ordered a margarita, we didn't know different flavors such as coconut would be more expensive. The drinks were good although. Best experience I've had since the COVID-19 pandemic. I was so skeptical about going out for dinner because of social distancing. The service was phenomenal and the food was exceptional. The manager Spiros was so nice! He checked in on us consistently to make sure everything was okay. We had the mussels and the coconut shrimp as appetizers. me and my boyfriend came to the Cuban for date night , our first time here. We were seated in the corner next to a party of four when there were open tables in the middle as the restaurant area was empty ... so that made no sense and threw me off from the beginning to be sat next to the bathroom door in the corner.. our drinks came they were strong so no complaints there. I wanted a nice fruity Instagramable drink but the only thing thing they could recommend as their aesthetically nicest drink was a basic mojito .. so fine ... we ordered the calamari , the breading had no taste whatsoever . Very dark in color almost over cooked. we ordered the potato croquettes, that was 3/10. Fast forward to ordering dinner, I ordered the CHURRASCO CUBANO** and the steak medium , the steak was hot on the outside and cold on the inside , I told the waitress the food needed to be warmed up. The steak was chewy not medium as I ordered. the rice and beans (congri) was the only thing on my plate I enjoyed. my boyfriend ordered CHULETA LA ISLA** the pork chop was dry and it didn't taste fresh. The plantains were ok and the rice was the best thing on the plate. Definitely overpriced for the food quality being served. only good thing about this place was the DJ and the drinks. Wouldn't come back as there are so many places in NYC that get it right.
