What a find!!! Was too late to make it to a nearby Thai place and this was our plan B for siblings night. First visit, won't be our last. Great service from Renee who was very accommodating, patient and knowledgeable. Upon walking in the restaurant is intimate, prohibition era like, romantic, yet homey vibes. The food was VERY good. Started with one of the BEST mushroom soups I've ever had. Mushrooms were thick cut, broth was very tasty ..a cup of love that think could win over a non mushroom eater. I had the meatloaf, mashed potatoes and carrots and surprisingly the star of the show was the carrots. The mains, although good didn't leave me wondering how in the world did they made them like the carrots did. They were sweet and savory, cooked perfectly with great texture and taste. My guests had the Salmon burger and another, the Lamb. Tasted my sister's salmon burger and it was amazing. I'll be coming back to have my own. Salmon was meaty, seasoned well, on a soft brioche bun. I also don't know what the sauce was they made to go with it but it added the perfect compliment. My brother's lamb was TENDER, cooked perfectly and seasoned to perfection. I'll be back for that too when they add a couple more chops to the plate. It was delicious, but the lamb chops were tiny and there were only four. THE DESSERT::: soooo good... definitely appreciated the HOMEMADE taste of the chocolate tart. Three people shared it and with the first bite I could tell that was a mistake. Next time I'll get my own for sure. Pro's- Quality food, great service, decent pricing Con's- Size of Lamb and Hibiscus Spritzer was definitely missing something. read more

The Food for the restaurant is amazing. The quality of the lamb was seasoned to perfection, with the hint of garlic butter coming from the carrots rounds out the meal to make it quite the bite. Our waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu she directed us towards meals that fix our taste buds. Which only made our experience here as guests that much better. The inside of the restaurant is filled with paintings from local artists from all over Buffalo. Which only adds to an already amazing aesthetic. This has become one of my favorite restaurants for good affordable food at an amazing price point read more

We came here for dinner tonight. I ordered the Braised Short Rib Special and my wife had the Greek Salad with Salmon. The short rib dish was the best I have ever had . The Short Rib was perfectly cooked with a delicious gravy. It was served over a generous serving of mash potatoes,roasted carrots, broccoli,onions and other vegetables. My wife also loved her salad. We had the home made spinach bread for an appetizer. Consisted of a roll with grated Parmesan cheese on top with sautéed spinach with a creamy parmigiana cheese inside. Delicious! Service was excellent. Unfortunately, it was a cool evening and we weren't able to sit outside. The inside it really cute with art work from local artists for sale hanging on the walls. read more

I thought the restaurant was really cool. I like the vibe. There's a nice courtyard in the back. I took my 15-year-old daughter. She had a burger and it was slightly overcooked, but she liked it. We also had calamari which also seemed overcooked. I had crabcakes that were very good, but I didn't taste as much crab as I would've liked. Service was great. Prices were right, and fair. I will go back. And I will make them aware of over frying. Maybe they needed fresher oil. read more

Solid five stars! Food is outstanding - everything we tried was top quality. This food is made with both skill and love. I had the Chicken Milanese sandwich and was blown away at the beautiful flavor combination. Burgers are cooked over a flame and have that perfect char that makes an outstanding burger. Fries are cut in-house. Even the arugula was good (the nice tiny ones that have good flavor, not the huge bitter ones that are thrown on as an after-thought at many places). Key lime pie is excellent (if you have room!). Servers were friendly and helpful, happy to questions about the menu, and quick with water refills (thank you!). There is a small parking lot around back. It was too cold for the patio to be open when I visited but it looks like a great spot when it warms up. The dining room is small and comfortable with local art on the walls and a relaxing vibe. I will very very happily eat here again. The only challenge will be whether to try something else on the delicious-looking menu or getting that amazing sandwich again. read more

Came here for an art show tonight. This place has great warm tavern vibes, super cozy. The sriracha burger had a great sear and was so juicy. The chicken piccata sauce was also amazing; best one I have had in years. We also got key lime pie; I think it was homemade and it was super fresh with an excellent crust. The food service was really quick, and the staff went out of their way to make sure we had a great experience. 10/10 experience honestly read more

This is an attractive restaurant tucked into a spot on Amherst St that is coming alive. We went there for dinner with friends and sat in their patio area which was very attractive. Waitstaff was professional and pleasant. Food was very good. I wish I could remember exactly what we had but I do remember we were all happy. We were welcomed warmly immediately upon entering and seated at a nice table in the corner. Specials were posted on the board as well as explained to us by our server. They have beer and some cocktails. We ordered the spinach bread appetizer special which was very good. I ordered a cup of the black bean soup which was much better than I expected. ÀOnly $4 for a cup. My partner and I shared the horseradish salmon which came with wild rice and really good green beans. There was a lot of horseradish, so we took off most of it but it was good. We ended with a homemade piece of key lime pie which was very tart and good. Great place. We came in the winter, but it sounds like they have a really nice patio in the summer. We've been here and few times now. Each meal has been delicious and the drinks are excellent. They have a beautiful outdoor patio in the back and ample parking! The service is excellent. The owners are often on site and extremely friendly. This is our new go to place! We have been to The Phoenix at 269 many times and are well-acquainted with the friendly staff. When my husband and I found ourselves with an extra hour last Friday night, between our son's activities, we decided to pop in & see if they could seat us. It WAS very busy-- but so welcoming and warm-- and they sat us quickly (we were lucky!) Our service from Mike was impeccable and the food was delicious, as always. The atmosphere was lively yet peaceful. The Phoenix has many regulars-- and you can see why-- the food is great, service is quick and friendly, the vibe is happy and fun. We enjoyed this place. We were the only guests on a Tuesday night. They had a nice patio, but it wasn't open. The food was real good. We had the appetizer eggplant stack, I had the chicken Milanese sandwich. The French fry's were legit top 3 on buffalo. Fresh cut, crispy, good flavor. Chicken sandwich was moist with a ton of chicken and nice greens. Chocolate Bundt cake was nice and moist as well. Or server Mia did a good Job. Stopped for a quick drink with a friend. Seated at the bar. The atmosphere was very pleasant. We were served by bartender Dave who was helpful and attentive. We tried the pepper dip which was served with carrots, celery and toasted pita. The dip had some complex flavors and was very tasty. I've been here twice and I give it four and a half stars. The first time was five, the second four. The burger and chicken sandwiches were excellent. My wife's chicken had real balsamic vinegar, which is not the garbage you get at the grocery store. It's also not cheap. Depending on whether it's 100% or a percentage, you're looking at a $50-$150 a bottle. The burgers are cooked over charcoal and you can tell! The bun is very similar to buns we make at home, which makes me suspect they're made in house but I'm unsure. Either way, great quality food! From time to exit is about an hour. I think it took about 30 minutes to get our food and we had a slice of pie/tart too. Quality food takes time but I'll admit the service did feel slow compared to the amount of people we saw. I thought people moved with urgency so I'm not sure exactly why things were slower than I might expect. Just be aware and plan accordingly. So why did my second visit receive four stars? The first time my fries were crisp. The second time my fries were soggy and while my wife may appreciate soggy, I don't. It's usually a sign of oil that is cooking at too low of a temperature, but it can also be that the fries sat around a little too long. My guess would be more of the first as our fries last time managed to stay relatively crispy through the entire meal. Still, the food tastes like quality ingredients are used and nothing was frozen. I still highly recommend and will be back! read more

The food was perfect for what I was looking for, Friday night fish fry in Buffalo. I had beer battered haddock which was perfect! My server was Renee and she was affable and courteous. The ambiance is family friendly and cozy. Even enjoyed homemade keylime pie. I was happy to stay in Buffalo in Black Rock and give it a strong recommendation. I would give it 5 stars for what it is a great local restaurant with fresh food, but so far in Buffalo I think I reserved the five stars for Oliver's and Cucina at The Richardson. read more

I had made reservations previously and I'm very glad I did, they open at 5 PM on Fridays, I arrived with two other people at 5:20 for a 5:30 reservation and it was packed already! It had Friday night happy hour vibes. The space is pretty open and I love that they feature local art, it really adds a special, personal touch. We ordered the calamari and the Phoenix pepper dip for starters. I really enjoyed the pepper dip, I think the calamari could have been cooked just a touch more but it was great! My husband and I ordered the beer battered fish fry which came with a pasta salad, French fries and coleslaw. My cousin ordered the chicken Milanese. The fish fry was fantastic, fried to perfection but not super oily. The pasta salad was more like a Greek based salad (feta, Kalamata olives) and the coleslaw was thick pieces of dressing coated cabbage..the twist on these traditional sides was delicious!!!! My cousin said her Milanese was tasty! Her traditional dish had an appetizing twist as well, they served the arugula on the side, the chicken had fresh mozzarella slices and a balsamic drizzle with a side of mashed potatoes. It looked mouthwatering and I will definitely try it on our next visit! Service was excellent as well, everyone was friendly and attentive. I have been to The Phoenix twice,the last time this past Saturday. We were seated on the patio which my guests liked very much,but the inside is quite nice too. I admit I ordered the same thing as before ( pasta with broccoli,red peppers and onions dressed perfectly) because I don't eat meat and it was delicious. My 2 guests were very happy with their food as well. For dessert I had the strawberry rhubarb pie while my guests split an ice cream pie. Also very good. The service was excellent,very friendly and professional. So I have been there twice,undisappointed twice, The Phoenix is a keeper in my book. read more

I had a certificate I bought through the radio station before Covid. Of course I didn't use it before we went into lockdown. Then felt bad going to use it after. I went there a few days ago, certificates in hand. Asked to use them (expired) and I was told they'd take them at face value. I was pleased with that, so at least I didn't lose any money. There's inside, outside patio (which looked nice) and bar seating. We sat at the bar. If it was warmer, I definitely would have sat outside. As it was, there were three tables occupied outside and a few inside. They had two beer on tap, an IPA and a lager. I was happy they had at least one IPA. They advertised a watermelon margarita. It looked good with a fresh slice of melon in it. All the alcohol behind the bar looked top shelf. The bar seating had a pleasant atmosphere and comfy stools. We got the bang bang shrimp for an appetizer. There were four nicely sized delicious shrimp. We shared our entrees of a burger and a fish fry. I enjoyed both immensely. The fish was light and crispy cod. It came with Greek pasta salad, fries and freshly prepared coleslaw. I took home fries and a small piece of my fish. Definitely enough food. My husband and I had to find a new place for Thanksgiving dinner this year because our go-to was closed. I saw The Phoenix at 269 on a list of places that were serving T'day dinner and it's close to home, which is a definite bonus (we didn't want to have to drive so I sent them a Facebook message on Tuesday morning and hoped for the best. My message was returned promptly and to my delight, they had a table still open for dinner so we made a reservation. Thanksgiving Day was our first time here, but it most certainly will not be our last. How we've managed to miss this gem is beyond me; it is in an area where we live, work, and play, but somehow it was never on our radar. The Thanksgiving buffet was a classic spread: turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, broccoli, salad, and cranberry sauce. The food was outstanding! Everything was delicious, and because they had specific timed seating, everything was piping hot and super fresh. The turkey was tender and juicy, the potatoes were perfect, the stuffing had a little "kick" to it, the cranberry sauce was divine, and even the green bean casserole, something I've traditionally avoided at ANY dinner, was great! It was clear that a great deal of care went into this food. I also had a grapefruit cosmo, one of their signature cocktails, and it was worth every penny of the $8 price (which I believe is very reasonable for a top-shelf cocktail). The service was attentive and friendly throughout our meal. We chatted with our server and learned toward the end of our visit that our hosts, the owners, are all one family; dad, mom, and two daughters. And to add to the family charm, there were takeout containers by the buffet for anyone who wanted to take food home with them. Is there anything more homey and familial than Thanksgiving leftovers?! I think not! Give this place a try. They have a private off-street parking lot and a nice large patio in the back which is probably lovely in the warmer months. I was here for a private birthday party. The food was delicious and the platters refilled constantly throughout the evening. I think many of the foods served for the partiers are also on their regular menu. I dined with 3 friends in the outdoor seating , Friday, Sept 22, 2023. It was not busy at my arrival 6:15pm. Service was slow from the start: ordered a "starter" and one beer, "starter came about 15 minutes lateer without any plates to share it; placed order of four main dishes, including one fish fry broiled ( was served fried) & pasta dish which came with green beans, asked for coleslaw as substitute (was served with green beans). sent fried fish fry back and waited 15 minutes for broiled fish. Alll food was tepid in warmth. Server apologized numerous times that the kitchen was backed up. Offered complimentary dessert & coffee for troubles. Waited another 15 minutes to get that! For sure my spouse and I will not return to the Pheonix! It is not what it used to be yearts ago....not a fine dining experience. read more

The Salmon, Chicken Milanese & Shrimp & Grits are outstanding. Never had a bad appetizer. 2 beers on tap, so you know that they are fresh (These places that more than 3 on tap can NO way be fresh). Absolute must for Thanksgiving dinner! There are few places that stay open and of those that do, even fewer serve the traditional fare, but this place not only does your classic spread, they do it well! They do something with the turkey that gives it a nice apple flavor, you get various options of veggies and potatoes, and just as great a variety of desserts to choose from. This year they were extra helpful, providing a To Go bag right up front so we could take home what our bellies could not handle this time. It is nice to have a place do all of the work for you, especially for those of us who are a bit cooking-averse and could never hack putting together a full Thanksgiving dinner on our own. read more

Went there from a recommendation from a friend. Loved the place, food not so much. Ordered the Greek Salad with Rack of Lamb. Rack of Lamb was done to perfection, Salad not so much. The salad (pricey) wasn't what you would expect for that price. Feta was tiny little pieces, tomato's, and olives, good and plentiful, lettuce had a couple ends in it and "tired." The biggest problem was the entire salad was soaked (pooled on plate) in dressing. So I literally paid $$ for The Lamb because the salad was a foregone conclusion. read more

Now known as The Phoenix at 269, this is one of those spots you can't help but need in your dining sphere even if you didn't know you needed it. Sometimes, you just need a well-cared for drink at the bar, perhaps a lovingly poured guinness, a well-cultivated burger, perhaps a chicken dish, a milanese perhaps and perhaps, space. This is a humble place, tastefully decorated, and a nice patio out back, off street parking and a staff committed to just doing it right. All the food I mentioned is just the tip of the iceburg, go forth, spend your hard earned dollars with folks who want to feed you well and who watch what they are serving unto you with care. If it wasn't my wedding anniversary I would need to find any reason to return!!! And I will return! This food is AMAZING! Shrimp and andouille sausage with creamy grits! My husband had the chicken piccata that was so delicious and the chicken so tender you could cut it with a spoon! The grapefruit Cosmos were so smooth that we ordered a few!
