The main difference here is that the employees and owner all REALLY care and are so nice and easy to work with. They will treat your dog like they treat their own, when no one is looking, which to me is huge. No cut is going to be perfect the very first time but they will learn and adjust and your dog will be so excited to go see them, unlike the last groomers we used. Did not successfully cut our dog. Our dog gets a skirt and they didn't trim any of it despite it clearly needing cut. They did not correctly clean/trim our dog's ears. Our dog needs plucking and they just shaved it all. This either caused an ear infection or they didn't tell us our dog had one, which is a whole other issue. We will not be returning. The staff is friendly and my dog loves it there. However, they lack integrity. I can understand accidents and mistakes, things can happen. All I wanted to know was an explanation as to how he got his ear got cut really bad. On the day it happened, I was informed that he had an altercation with a larger dog. That made sense. Today, I merely wanted to know about the other dog and their whole story changed completely; They weren't there to see what happened, they just heard barking and he was just bleeding all of a sudden. They went as far to say that it's all the same friendly dogs he always plays with and none were larger than him. I was willing to let all of this go till my wife sent me a transcribed voicemail on her phone , with a time and date with the name of the employ, specifically stating the dog had been in an altercation with another dog, thus proving that I was lied to today. We have given this place one more chance for the last time. We are NEVER charged the same price twice and have the history to back that up. What's worse, is we get different cuts each time. Last time, in September, we were told our Goldendoodles were "unicorns" in that they were so well brushed when we brought them in. This time, same dogs, same amount of brushing, we were told they were matted and they had to try and "camouflage" the odd cutting because of the mats in the rear of their legs and on the butt. Not true. Even if it were true, why is the hair so uneven EVERYWHERE including the top of the head?!!!! They were SWAMPED, and I suspect that was the real issue. The girl who cut it last time was not there this time, which I think is another contributing factor. Regardless, there was simply no excuse to charge over $100.00 PER DOG for a shoddy haircut. After over a decade of going to Darling Dog for pet grooming service our family will be taking our business elsewhere. We took our dog in to have a trim, ear cleaning and nails cut. We had tried once before but our she was turned away due to a bit of an anxiety issue. Totally understand that. This time we got a prescription to calm her down and put a muzzle on her. My wife dropped our dog off in the early morning and we heard nothing all day so we assumed all was good. My wife picked her up in the afternoon to find that her ears had not been cleaned, one of her toe nails was cut to the quick causing a bleed and the back nails were not even done. We were charged extra because our dog pooped on the grooming table 2 times and had to be re-bathed. We were charged full price, and then some, for services that were not rendered. When we called Darling Dog back for an explanation we were told "it was all explained to the woman that picked her up". We let them know that English is not my wife's first language so we were calling for clarification on what was done and why we were charged full price and then some. Their reply to English not being her first language was "Not our problem" and abruptly hung up on us. We attempted to call back but they did not pick up. We left a voicemail requesting a callback from the manager to discuss. As of today, we have not received a call back. Think twice before taking your pet here. read more

We have taken our 2 dogs to them for years and we were loyal during the pandemic. However, we took them in with an appointment on 12/24 and explained how one of our long hair dachshunds needed a specific blade cut which they have done successfully for years. When she came home, her small leg had a good 1"x1" area shaved to the skin. There is another spot on her tail. Her leg has warranted a call to the vet and medication. The last time I had taken the girls in, I had to return with them to get their nails trimmed properly. I called the shop and talked to the manager. She didn't offer any apology, not even when I told her that I had to contact the vet. I was surprised at her disinterested attitude. Basically I was just calling them to let them know they need to make sure their groomers are more careful. We won't be going back which is really sad because we've been going there for years. Two stars purely for the cut as my cavapoo admittedly did look very cute and they cut short on the paws to make him look like dainty poodle paws. However, stars taken away for everything else: 1) my dog looked SO traumatized all the way home and at home for a few hours. He was walking around with his tail between his legs for the first time ever. He has also been to many groomers and never looked like that. 2) My dog was probably cut on his paw. He kept licking his paw after his groom and when I finally went to check 2 days later, he had a pustule. This took a vet's visit and about 6 weeks to burst and heal. 3) When I called for a price quote based on weight and breed, they told me $56. On pickup after the groom, I think they tried charging me $85. I went into sticker shock and told them about the price quote. The lady told me I was misquoted the cockapoo price. I appreciate that she owned up to their mistake, and compromised at $65 ($71 after tax). Needless to say, I did not tip and really glad I didn't after my comments above. I will NEVER take my dogs here again!!!! I took my two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels here the day before Thanksgiving. If you're a King Charles owner, most of you know NOT to cut their hair!!! I was very specific in telling the owner I absolutely DO NOT want their hair cut, only if there were knots they absolutely could NOT comb out. These people had no clue what they were doing obviously!!! My male, who has a really thick coat, omg.... They have RUINED his coat! They were so lazy, they didn't even try to comb him out.... They just SHAVED HIM!!! His once gorgeous long slippers on his feet (which took YEARS to grow out!!) are GONE! SHAVED TO HIS NAILS! Also, his once long and beautiful coat on his belly is GONE! This isn't even the worst part... When we picked them up, it took several long minutes to get a straight answer from 3 of the people working there, where our dogs were. They kept looking at one another, avoiding the question. Then, one of them came out and stuttered something about "his hurt leg". Ummm... WHAT?!?! He didn't go in your shop hurt!!! She said when she had him on the table he must've "pulled" something because he started yelping and limping! They were hurrying us out the door, no one would give us a straight explanation! Once we got both of our babies in the car, they weren't their usual peppy selves- they were clinging on to each other, trembling, scared to death. Like they had been tortured or something! I have never in my life seen them act this way!!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOGS HERE!!!!!!!! I'm going to do more research on this place and get to the bottom of this. My 15-year-old dog's groomer has mysteriously vanished from the face of the Earth. So I did some research (Next Door, Google, Yelp, my vet) and took him to The Darling Dog in Allen today. The lady who checked us in was incredibly sweet. When I came to pick him up, there were three groomers at work at tables. One was a young man working on a very small white dog. The dog kept yelping. The man got very agitated and started yelling at the dog. Then he picked the dog up and began shaking him very hard while yelling in his face. It was so awful. When he saw me staring he stopped and apologized. How can a grown man lose his temper with a tiny dog? Why did the lady at the front desk act like nothing was happening (other than her eyes were as big as saucers)? Why did the other groomers let him do this? I won't be back. read more

The cut is fine. it's pretty much what I asked for and the people were friendly. No major concerns like the ones I read in other reviews. I dropped her around 8:15 and she was ready around 11:30, I think. I have a cavalier King Charles Spaniel and they cut her fur short around the feet (which I'm happy with) and trimmed down her ears (which I'm happy with). I know there are some CKCS owners who are very particular with how their pup is groomed so I'm sharing that detail. I have never taken the dog to a groomer so I was shocked by the price - I think it was around $70? That's more that what I spend on my hair cut! Lol. That may be normal, I don't know. I took my dog for a full groom at the Darling Dog Pet Salon. The first sign I should have recognized is that my dog didn't want to go in. This male person approached my dog in a manner that was too quick and unaffectionate. I didn't like the way he was taking my dog from me. This was my second clue. I explained to the girl at the front counter how I wanted my dog to be cut. Since I hadn't been at this groomer before I let them choose who would take care of my dog. When I picked up my dog and asked for the charge for the full groom, I was told $48.00 plus tax. I told the girl that it was supposed to be $46.00 plus tax. The manager was standing up front and overheard my comment and she said that my dog was 2 pounds over the price change. She explained that since my dog weighed 2 pounds heavier that they needed "MORE SHAMPOO" and that it takes longer to groom the dog. I couldn't believe what I was hearing! I had never heard of this ever before in any other groomers I had been too. I told the manager that she had not told me this "rule" and to take off the extra $2.00 charge. She did. Another lady went back to get my dog and all I heard was crying and barking dogs. It was insane. My dog came out and I took him home. When my dog got home he was constantly licking both sides of his paws. When I looked closely at his front paws he had been cut. Also, on his upper chest he was shaved too closely. Apparently my dog was "groomed" by a bottom level groomer with little experience. I will never go back to this groomer and I strongly suggest other pet parents think strongly about your pet's outcome before going to this groomer. There are plenty of good groomers in the Allen area to choose from. Darling Dog Pet Salon is a franchise and I should have known better than to give them my business. read more

I have a Shepard mix and she loves her baths here. They treat her so well. I don't get the haircut but she sheds a bunch so we do the defurminator and it seems to work really well with the amount of shedding. They come to the car to pick her up and bring her out when she's done. read more

I have a high anxiety dog who is hard to care for. We had issues in the past with other boarding facilities, not being able to properly handle her. Darling Dog is very close to my home and has been a life saver when we need our dogs cared for. They are very friendly and open about their facility. Both my husband and my mom got tours of the facility, which most places do not allow. The staff handles both our dogs well, and they always know how to handle our high anxiety pup. The dogs are in and out constantly so they aren't locked up all day, or stuck outside in the heat/cold all day, and there is always a staff member outside with them. I call last minute constantly to get my dogs watched, and they are always willing and ready to take them on! We also get our dogs bathed and trimmed here, and they always come home smelling great! Our dogs have short hair and don't require a breed cut, so I can't comment on breed related haircuts. They are very reasonably priced as well, especially compared to other luxury boarding/ grooming facilities in the area. My one negative comment is they are not great at answering their phone. When I call, I expect to go to voicemail, which is not very good business. I have often left messages that do not get returned as well. I usually have to call 2-3 times periodically to get in touch with a staff member. Besides the phone issues, I am satisfied with the service I receive from Darling Dog! read more

I called Darling Dog Pet Salon because our Buddy needed his nails trimmed. We drive by this place all the time and notice it was a grooming establishment. I called at 2:00pm on a Saturday spoke to Jennifer inquiring if they could see Buddy she said sure bring him in keep in mind they close at 4:00pm. I cannot explain how nice it was for Jennifer to listen to me run off the lists of Buddy's issues about having his nails done. She seemed very engaged and I got the sense she was really invested in taking care of our boy. I wished we would have come sooner. We will be scheduling his next appointment in 3 weeks and also taking our Layla next week. This place is awesome caring and very enthusiastic about treating our pups. Customer for life read more

Darling Dog used to be very good but it no longer is, the last 2 times I took my dog to be groomed she had to go to the veterinarian afterwards and the last time when the Darling Dog employee brought her out she was so cowed she wouldn't come to me. My dog has always been described as "confident" and never displayed being cowed. I don't know what happened but it took her a couple of weeks to get back to normal. They are accommodating of my crazy schedule and last minute requests and thorough. My pug is always happy to see Amanda and she comes out smelling fresh and clean. Good help is hard to find. I am disheartened that I picked up my dog today and he smelled like he had been laying in urine for the past 5 days he was with this company. I forewarned them of him being sick with a possibility of urinating on himself yet when I picked him up and asked how had he been they said he had no accidents. However, when I picked him up he was wet but because it was raining I figured they took him for a walk and he got a little wet. As I rode home, I started to notice the smell of urine, days of urine and pooh on his backside (see pic). His blanket was full of urine and had not been washed. Although, I opted out of the grooming option, I would have appreciated a professional dog loving company to contact me to recommend a bath if he smelled and looked the way he did. We have been going to this groomer for nearly 2 years. We normally pay $57.00 (59.54 with tax) for a Cocker Spaniel cut. We usually add on a tip on top of that for around $65.00. We noticed the signs for a 13% increase (57.00 + 13%[$7.41]=64.41) due to lack of increase in some time. We understand basic math and agreed to the 13% increase when we dropped him off and had no more instructions than we've ever had. Ever. We picked him up and we were charged 84.44 with tax...that is a 46.5% increase, not a 13% increase...and we were not told ahead of time it would be that high. When we questioned the amount, the employee called the owner who said it was a 13% increase plus additional fees for a cocker cut...which we have ALWAYS gotten for our dog. If they did something different we sure as heck can't tell what it is, but it certainly should not have been 46.5% more. I am absolutely not against anyone making a profit. None. Everyone has bills to pay and mouths to feed, but this....this is absolutely disheartening. After all this time, we will not be back, and we just got a new puppy so they are now losing two dogs. read more

We took our American Eskimo (Kaniq) to Darling Dog, at Main and Allen Heights because the guy who had groomed him moved to that business. We left my mobile number when we made the reservation -- but, they called our friend (who has Kaniq's sister) to pick him up. No big deal, as they are groomed together often -- but our friend had to call us to tell us Kaniq was ready. When I arrived to pick him up, I asked the counter person (later determined to be the owner) to please change the number. "That is the number your wife said was correct." was the response. ISSUE 1: I was present for the drop-off, and no number was discussed. ISSUE 2: Attitude. When I entered, I had handed them my card, which they ran before giving me a price. When I noted that it was about $35 more than expected, I called my wife to confirm that my expectation was correct. It was. I was rudely told that my wife had "requested" a trim -- when, in fact, the owner had asked if we wanted a trim, to which my wife replied "maybe a little". No mention of any additional charge was made, and no pricing is posted anywhere -- so we had no reason to assume any change in price. When I politely asked why we had not been told beforehand that an added cost was involved, I was basically told (by the person who then identified as the owner) to sign the charge slip or leave without our dog. In hindsight, I should have called Allen PD at that point. Under what quickly became a threat of a trespass complaint if I did not sign and leave, I signed and left. Because I was forced to sign, we cannot dispute the charge, and Allen PD cannot now take a complaint. At this point, we can spend lots of valuable time and a little money to sue in small claims court, or we can eat the roughly $35 extra charge and try to prevent others from falling victim to this extremely shady business. read more

This place use to be really good but service has gone down hill. We have used them for over two years but will not use them anymore There have been many groomers changes so The person grooming your dog is not the same. They are really bad at follow up. From telling you when your pet is ready to scheduling. I really like a few of the groomers but they are no longer there. Which is really sad since I like them. I had scheduling my dog for an grooming and was told the groomer was sick so I was given another day. I brought my dog in early and did not get a call after a while so I called and was told they are drying the dog and it will be an hour? An hour to dry the dog. It does not take an hour to groom wash and dry the dog. If you have not started you should just say so. If you are busy and can't get to my dog you should just tell the truth and not say oh we are almost done and will call you. After an hour they did not call so we called so we waited and called to check and was told our dog was ready. We asked why they did not call and was told that We are not their only customers and we have other dogs to take care of. I think the level of has gone bad and we will not return. If you can't keep your employee there and can not follow up how do we know you are treating our pets well and taking care of them. read more

I have been taking my dogs to Darling Dog for the past couple of years and at first I really appreciated their service. Their pricing was better than other places we had been to and the haircuts were usually what we wanted. However the last two times I have taken my dog here, groomers have called in sick. The first time, they called me and told me that most of their groomers called in sick and they requested a rescheduling of my dog's appointment. I told them that this was the only day we could do for awhile, so they fit us in. My dog, Lilo, was ready about 4 hours later and we were pleased with her haircut, so we didn't complain about the request to reschedule. The second time is what pushed me over the edge to write this review. We had been told that they open at 8am on Saturday and the sooner you bring your dog in, the sooner they will attend to her. We make sure to bring Lilo right as they open so she can be out as soon as possible. We dropped her off at 8 and at 9 I received a call saying their groomers had called in sick. Again. They said they could not perform a full groom as we asked but they could give her a bath and trim her nails. I said okay because Lilo desperately needed a nail trim. At 11, I began to wonder why they haven't called me to pick up Lilo. Surely a bath and nail trim wouldn't take longer than a couple hours, especially if she should've been seen early on. I called, but no answer. I called again at 12, no answer. Finally at 12:30 they picked up and said they were just about to start on Lilo's bath. 4.5 hours after we dropped her off and she still hadn't been seen? I couldn't believe I took her there to sit in a cage for that long. I drove there to hear her crying in the back and when I asked why she wasn't seen first since we brought her first, they said they were too busy. I understand certain circumstances are out of your control, but I just can't leave my dog somewhere for that long with no service. I will not be bringing her back here again. read more

I highly recommend you not leave your little loved ones with this company. As they will not be treated well and this company will also quote you a total fee of your pets stay and then when you go to pick them up will charge you totally a different amount than what you got quoted to start with and then you will be lied to over and over. They do not call you back to work out the problems, they are very dishonest people to work with and we as customers give them the time to work the problem out and they do not work with you at all.
