We arrived for our 6:45pm reservation last night, but we were not seated for over 25 minutes. My husband ordered the 'whole crab 2+lbs', but when the entree arrived it was a pile of crab legs. He has ordered this entree many times before and it always included the crab body. The waitress said they recently changed the dish, but adjusted the price to reflect. I would suggest changing the name of the item on the menu as well, since you are not serving a "whole crab". There was very little crab on my louie salad as well, which I paid an extra $12.99 for. It appears there are changes being made, however not for the better. We have been long time patrons of this restaurant, however I'm not sure we'll be back after last night. read more

Came here to celebrate my dad's birthday. I believe this is my second time eating here. I was actually here many moons back when I was in high school. For my most recent visit, we ordered fried calamari and French fries for appetizers. The calamari was good. It had a nice crunchy batter and the squid was tender. The batter did not hold up well with the squid meat, but it was very tasty. It was served with sweet pickled bell peppers, fried onions, and lemon wedges. The cocktail was a wonderful addition to the fried calamari. Loved the horseradish, which wasn't too overwhelming to my palate. We also had a large order of fries. My dad loved the fries. It had a wonderful crispness and salt to it. It was served with ketchup. The large order was good enough for our party of four. For our entrees, we ordered the seafood pasta, prime rib, and short ribs. The seafood pasta was excellent. It was served with black squid ink noodles. I believe that the noodles were linguine. They had a very wonderful Al dente bite to it. The noodles to seafood ratio was a little bit underwhelming, but having more seafood than noodles is always a plus. The seafood in the pasta was crabs, shrimp, squid, mussels, clams, and fish. All the seafood in the pasta were excellent. They were cooked wonderfully. We loved the cioppino sauce served the pasta. It brought all the wonderful flavors of the seafood with the dish. I've also appreciated the olives in the dish. It brought the vegetable element to the dish. The pasta was also served with bread, but you need to request the bread in order to have bread with your meal. We ordered two of these, but it was a lot to eat even with the four of us. The short ribs were good. They were tender and had a nice flavor from the braising marinade. The short ribs were served with cream spinach and mashed potatoes. Both side dishes were good and paired well with the meat. The prime rib was okay. We had it cooked medium rare. It looked like it was cooked well, but the bit of fat on it gave its flavor. It was served with its au jus and the aforementioned side dishes. I kind of felt that we needed some more flavor to the prime rib. For drinks, we had a Cabernet and their piña colada. The Cabernet was good. It paired well with the dishes of seafood and meats. My brother appreciated the dry red with his meal. The piña colada had a wonderful presentation. It was served with whipped cream and a Maraschino cherry. It was sweet and refreshing and I can barely detect the rum it was mixed with. I actually like it that way, where the rum doesn't overpower the cocktail. Our server was very prompt and friendly during our experience here. He was relatively efficient during this Easter weekend. I visited on Nov 2020. It was first dining out experience since March. I was pleasantly surprised (I was ready to order take-out if I didn't think the restaurant was set up for safety.). The Dead Fish has had outdoor dining for years so it's not just a pandemic afterthought. There are "permanent" heaters over the tables so even at 54 degrees we felt warm and toasty. The tables were placed so diners were adequately separated. And it's outdoors - covered overhead. There are also 3-sided cabanas along the far wall for larger parties (maybe 6-8). I saw staff disinfecting surfaces after diners left... and they're open to the bay. I feel they're riskier than the tables on the rails. We were seated near a wall with no diners even close to us; not in a high traffic area. We had a wonderful bay view. And, again, the heater kept us warm. The service was wonderful. The servers wore masks. When a customer asked a server to take a photo, he put on gloves, took the photo, then disposed of the gloves. All the customers wore masks when leaving their tables. Most did not wear masks while at their tables even when they weren't eating or drinking. I find wearing a mask while waiting for food prevents me from snacking on all the bread before the meal comes... a definite plus. Last year we came here for my birthday because it was pouring rain and I didn't want to drive far. This year we came because we knew it had a nice outdoor dining area. I had roasted mussels. They were fine, but now I know I preferred my shellfish steamed. My husband ordered his usual Fisherman's Stew. It was nicely spiced. Except for the crab, everything tasted fresh. The crab was not this year's catch. It was a bit rubbery...had the texture of older frozen crab. I will definitely come again, just order something different. He ordered the prime rib and I ordered the 1/2 crab, they served them on the same plate???? then handed us another plate??? call me crazy, but we ordered 2 separate meals? Shouldn't they be served separately? Beautiful restaurant, delicious food, but the service and managements are far from great. Mean servers, managers that are bit willing to accommodate, ridiculous COVID rules - for example they would refuse to endear us until the entire part was there - and it was a birthday celebration. I got the Fish and Chips... it was just ok! I have had way better! The Fish is very moist and succulent! Which didn't work for Fish and Chips! The bead on the outside just falls off! Again at our favorite place brought our East Coast family for their final dinner on their last night in California, of course Dead Fish delivered, customer service A+, food was on point delicious the clam chowder was thick smooth fresh, Caesar Salad was beautiful & bold 5+, the atmosphere was fun full of laughs and joyful voices something I realized & my group have been missing throughout this COVID-19, it's beautiful decorated plus the staff was extremely friendly with lots of attentiveness without being overwhelming it was perfect! My family from the East Coast were throughly impressed, and these are New Yorkers and Pennsylvanians, the Dead Fish is following all Covid-19 guidelines, masks are mandatory but once you are sitting at the table you are able to remove them. They offer such a beautiful setting and some crazy good food. The only thing I have notice is that the morning staff is much more organized and provides a better quality of service the night does step up however but I do feel food comes out faster in the morning read more

I don't like to write negative reviews, but for the money I spent, it is necessary to share my experience. Firstly, this used to be my favorite spot and I have not been here in ages. I used to come here about three times a month. I was in the area and decided to treat myself to lunch on a whim. I ordered the Calamari ($14.99) for starters. I am hurt, disappointed and offended. The Calamari came out about 10 minutes after I ordered it. It was overcooked and entwined with onions and red and green bell peppers. Who puts onions and bell peppers in Calamari? This was the WORST Calamari ever (sorry). I divided the onions and bell peppers to the left and just ate the overcooked Calamari and washed it down with a dirty vodka martini. I also ordered the a la carte burger ($16.99). It was supposed to include cheese, grilled onions and pickles ....... it did not. It was dry AF and the bun was uninspired, tasteless and bland. Lastly I had the pasta with chicken ($24.99). Omg! It was sooooooo bland and tasteless. The Alfredo sauce may as well have come out of a jar. Unfortunately they have really pulled back on the food quality. The ambiance and views are still awesome. I ordered at the bar and the opening bartender was attentive. For the money, I could have had the same items at Applebees for half the price (minus the incredible view). I will not be back. read more

I really enjoyed it here! We had a reservation on a Friday night and our party of seven was seated right away. Our server, Corina, was very prompt and attentive. She was also friendly and professional. She took our drink orders right away and gave us a time to look at our menu. All of our dishes were delicious. I ordered the prime rib and the meat was tender and tasty. The mashed potatoes were yummy too. I tried the cioppino and the fish and chips and both had good flavor. For dessert, we had tiramisu and that was delicious, also. The decor is nice and the view is beautiful. Place is clean. The only con is that parking is difficult. We love coming here, we've been coming here for years and love the buttery, garlicy whole crab you can get steaming on your table. We came in last night and found out quickly that they had recently changed the menu. We are no longer able to get their famous garlic butter dipping sauce which alone would cause us to think twice about coming back but they also changed their crab recipe and are putting paprika on it. It was very strange, and not nearly as good as their old recipe. Service was great and the shrimp was amazing (because they didn't change it) but don't think we will be back unless they bring back the garlic butter sauce and throw away the paprika! read more

Since moving to the Bay Area in 2015, my husband has brought me to The Dead Fish a fair number of times. I recall my first visit and being completely blown away by the views, the service, and most important of all... the food! Every time we've visited to dine we get a lovely server who has great banter, lots of back and forth and really adds to the experience. In fact, the last time we visited as a couple the server very kindly pointed out that we could bring our own alcohol as they don't charge a corkage fee. We thanked our server by ordering a fair few glasses of wine. ;) The last time came was for my husband's birthday. There was a fairly large group of us (around 7 or 8) and we got seated in a nice, quiet part of the restaurant. Which was probably for the best as we can get quite rambunctious as party! The food kept coming steady and fast, our server was so polite and helped us with our bottles of wine that we had brought with us, and the atmosphere was ideal for such a celebration. It was also the night we announced we were having a baby and I couldn't imagine a better setting for divulging the news. We will continue to come back here as often as we are able. The Dead Fish holds many special memories and it's at the top of my list when my mother and sister come to visit next week. read more

I've lived across the bridge my entire life and only been here a couple times and I wish I've gone more!! Everything is sooo good from the lobster sandwich to the clam chowder, I was really impressed. What's also a plus is the fact that there is no corkage fee when you bring wine!!! We went on a Saturday night- I definitely recommend making reservations!! It was packed, but the service was not bad at all, the food came out decently fast!! The only thing is it's a little overpriced, but I guess that's what you get when you come to a good seafood restaurant. Also the oysters were pretty small which was kind of a bummer. Went to dead when covid restrictions started lifting and at the time recieved slow and blah service. Chalked it up to rust. Tonight came with friends and had reservations at 6:00. Got there and there was a line. The guy checking covid cards complaining about amount of reservations. Get up to the front and we were told that there would be a wait and there are 8 people ahead of us, and could not tell us how long we would have to wait. We had reservations at 6:00 and we were there on time. The staff was very unapologetic and un-empathetic. This place is great for large parties. They always have an amazing sized space for us and the portions are perfect for sharing. They even have table sized portions that you can order. We started with the large calamari which was more than enough for 6 people. They also give warm, fresh bread. I shared the crab and shrimp skillet. It comes out piping hot with extra sides of butter. This steaming, garlicy, buttery seafood goodness is def on my recommendations. Also got the garlic noodles that were amazing. My boyfriend got shrimp and chips which was huge and he loved it. I wish I took pictures of my last few meals but prices are up and quantity is way down. I got a fish sandwich last night and the fish was not much larger than what you get at McDonalds. I ate here with another person two nights ago. We asked to be seated outside, and even though the view was nice, the tables were too close together. We ended up sandwiched between two tables of loud talking men. Because of how close the tables were, the sounds amplified and we couldn't even hear each other speak. Now onto the food. Very underwhelming for the cost. I ordered the crabwich. When they brought it out, I literally thought "that's it for $20?". I was very surprised that for $20, you literally only get the crabwich; no side, no garnish, no nothing. It's just the crabwich. If you want a side, it's a additional $4. That said, the crabwich as a meal lacked, and was not worth $20. The person I was with ordered the crab enchiladas. She was here a few weeks ago and ordered the same thing. She loved it the first time she ordered it. This time nope! She said it was over cooked and cold when she received it. She constantly was picking out crab shells as, and she said it was missing ingredients that were in it the first time she had it. I think it costed $22 for two enchiladas, and she said definitely wasn't worth it. I feel like the dead fish used to be better. Now they're overpriced for mediocre food and quality. read more

We have been dining at the Deadfish for 15+ years and have always loved it. Today was simply awful...it took 2 hrs to get 4 drinks calamari & bruschetta. When our actual lunch arrived we sent it back because it was cold.. Our waitress only came to the table to take our order then came back an hour later to tell us the computer had gone down thus our order was delayed. The true reason was probably under staffing.
