Went to the Dead Fish for Valentine's Day. To our surprise there was a loooong line for reservations. We ended up being seated about a half hour past our reservation, but once we got a table the food came out super fast. I have nothing bad to say about the service nor the food. Everything was absolutely delicious. We got a couple salads, calamari, and we both got the branzino. I do agree with the people leaving negative reviews that the overbooking situation really shouldn't have happened, especially if reservations were made out way in advance. We luckily had nothing going on later in the evening but I feel for people who made arrangements for their kids, plans to go do something else after, etc. I've been here the past three Valentine's. Great food and excellent service! We came on Valentine's Day for a double date to celebrate me and my husband's 17th wedding anniversary and my parents' 70th and 71st birthdays. We were seated immediately, 15 minutes before our reserved time. The music was great! We all enjoyed our food - branzino, crab lasagna, crab louie salad, sizzling combo, clam chowder. Our server David was very attentive. And then last but definitely not least, Shazzam! Thank you, Shazzam, for taking the time to greet us at our table. Boy Oh Boy - I was feeling under the weather on my 37th anniversary today so my husband and I decided to do a quick lunch at one of my favorite local restaurants. We ordered lots a crab, bread and Yukon mashed potatoes. The crab has always been tasty I've never had one bad experience over the 15 plus years until today. The new secret crab recipe should have stayed a secret - if I want boiling crab I will go there. Give us an option of garlic or paprika seasoning. Otherwise I will need to check this one off my list. I will be reviewing Salitos, BoBo and Crab House to see if they have original roasted garlic crab I love. Some things you can't improve- I've always stopped at the Dead Fish instead of going to SF for Thanh Long looks like until the original recipe is restored - I'm on the hunt for my new favorite read more

I was told by Peter D the business manager to contact him about my awful experience, in which I did. I have yet to hear back from him so clearly his concern was only how the optics looked on a bad review, showing anyone reading the negative reviews that he was concerned at its face, however the lack of actions by the manager and restaurant tells me all I need to know. Unfortunately, as good as your food is, your poor service and lack of true concern will keep me from ever coming back here again and I hope this review helps people make a good decision. They say they are closed at 8 but they take reservations at 8. Well then if you don't want to make money maybe take your last reservations at 7. They said there hostess went home. Didn't know that another employee can seat. Horrible customer service. read more

Food was phenomenal and location is terrific. Inside atmosphere is great too. The only flaw I did have was the service. The waitress would forget our alcoholic beverages and we would have to approach her after waiting for 15/20 min at the bar especially after seeing her get other drinks made for other customers after we asked for ours and its sad cause shes a bartender too etc. And she would rarely check on us and once in a blue moon someone else would ask if we needed anything etc. Due to the employees error I felt it wasn't fair to leave under 5 stars, when the Atmoshpere, View and Food quality is what saved it and me willing to come back. read more

What is going on with the restaurant? We were sitting at the bar for lunch at the time of the opening of the restaurant. The entire counter along with the tables across from us were dirty, there were food clumps all over. It doesn't look like they wipe downs at closing or opening. The food still good but dirty restaurant is not a good place! At one point we see the manager asked the busser to wiped down beore he sat down the guests and that table was emptied before we even sat down. Keep it clean! read more

Chauna was one of the best servers we have had in a long time. She was very patient and knowledgeable with recommendations that were spot on. The drinks were exceptional with perfect shards of ice in the martinis and a well chilled bottle of wine. The calamari was delicious and I'm glad we decided to split the fish and chips...the fish was very well prepared and was obviously very fresh. Stopping on our way home, we had a wonderful dinner at The Dead Fish. The views from the dining room are stunning and the food was delicious. We had the soft-shell crab sandwich and the crab sliders. We finished with the vanilla cake and salted caramel. The mojito was not as good as everything else that we had. The service was friendly and quick. Was here yesterday. Husband and daughter had prime rib which they didn't eat more than a few bites. It had absolutely no flavor and my daughters wasn't cooked right. Vegetables were burnt and zucchini in mashed potatoes. The beet salad was ok just way too heavy on the Dijon. We used to eat here a lot when we lived in Hercules years ago then a few years ago we went for Mother's Day brunch and I ordered a burger which was so long it looked like a turd on some kind of bread. We decided to try again but sadly didn't taste any better. I also think that if people are paying good money to eat then maybe the server shouldn't wear stretch gym tights. Celebrated my birthday at this wonderful spot! Made reservations, seated according to our dinner time with no hassle. Great views of the Benicia Bridge/Carquinez Strait-enjoyed both sunset and night views, while enjoying delish food! I would've preferred outside seating if the weather had permitted. Loved the seafood black linguini, plenty of sea meat and of course the calamari. Especially enjoyed our drinks, two rounds of margaritas and lemon drop please lol!! My wife and I stopped at this restaurant on the way to Sacramento, on Sunday 9/7/25, since some friends had indicated to us that it was a great place to eat. We walked in without a reservation at about 2pm, the hostess helped us right away to find a table.We asked for an inside table, but they have outside seating with a great view of the bay. Right away a girl from the bar asked if we wanted something to drink, we opted for two spritz which were delivered right away. The server, Josh, came over and asked if we were ready to order. We opted for Fried calamari and the Crab Loui Salad. The orders came back to our table in ten minutes. Josh came by to see if we were happy with our meal. We were happy about the service and the food. I could have ordered dessert, but Sacramento was waiting. At first I was taken back by the view of the bridge and the water; seems like a gorgeous place to eat brunch especially! But the moment we got inside the service spoke volumes that the atmosphere masked. Our waitress took our drink orders but neglected to ask us if we wanted our appetizers as well. Now to paint a clearer picture: we had been seated for well over 15 minutes, and the moment a larger party comes in (I'll use the term "affluent") our waitress immediately takes them even though I had asked if she could quickly take our appetizer order. She said "as soon as I'm done here" - with a table of 8+ who were literally right next to ours! I understand being new to a job but apparently this waitress was a bartender already. The same common sense of taking care of your smaller table should still apply! I eventually got the attention of another waitress who super helpful in getting our order together where the other waitress faltered. Even still our food came out at disjointed times and the other staff helping clean/bus were severely lacking in training and common sense. I will say this: the manager there, Shazzam (two t's!!!) definitely saved the night. Very much an example of going above and beyond to make up for their staff. But the food itself was delicious! I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant and was quite disappointed. The service is below average. Our waiter came over to check on us a couple of time, never purred us wine even though our glasses were empty. Instead of a dozen of oysters we got 10, so count your oysters. LOL. Instead of the fish I got half of it which was maybe 5 inch long, overcooked, for $40 with burned vegetables. The restaurant itself is cute but has this old moldy building smell. Loud. Dead Fish never disappoints! We've been coming here for 20+ years and the food, drinks and views can't be beat. Seafood is their specialty. Be sure to make a Resy or you'll be waiting a long time. We like to sit in the bar to watch football on weekends, but their outdoor deck with a view of the Carquinez Straight and bridge is simply gorgeous. We always have the sizzling mussels and shrimp, and I always get the crab enchilada. A single is more than enough even without sides. My husband got the bronzino fish special and our friend always gets the garlic noodle with crab. They said it was delicious. Bonus that there's no corkage on wine so you can make a party out of it. We returned here for a date night after really enjoying our previous visit, and once again, the food did not disappoint. This time we were seated indoors, and while the leather booth was comfortable, the temperature inside felt a bit warm--especially on a summer evening. A cooler indoor climate would have made the experience even better. The food was truly exceptional. Each dish arrived at the perfect temperature, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. Our server, Erin, was an absolute delight--warm, attentive, and made us feel well taken care of throughout the evening. For dessert, we chose the caramel brûlée cheesecake. While it was delicious overall, I personally would have preferred a crunchier crust and a brûléed sugar topping to better capture the classic crème brûlée texture and finish. Despite the minor climate issue and dessert tweak, we had a wonderful time and will definitely be back. I have been to the Dead Fish 3 times in last six months and TODAY I had the best food and service! Our server Erin was amazing, kind and attentive. The previous 2 times, we had long waits for everything and our food was cold. Erin and everyone made sure we got everything we needed and our food was HOT. I took the time to let the manager, Shazam, know that the service and food was like night and day and it was a very lovely experience! He brought so much joy not just to my interactions with him, but with so many other customers as they came in, were dining or as they left! This restaurant is the only reason I've been to Crockett before and it holds up pretty well since the last time I've eaten here, which was around 2018. I went for lunch with family and the outdoor seating gives you a nice view for the fresh seafood dishes. I got the branzino with "spicy cioppino sauce", which was cooked very well but was literally 0% on the spice level. If you get this dish and probably any dish with cioppino just expect a regular tomato sauce with no hotness. The seafood black linguini was better as it had a mild level of spice to it and the pasta itself was al dente and delicious. I'd probably get that dish for myself next time. The menu here is overall quite pricey so this place is somewhere I'd only come as a treat or for a special outing with relatives. read more

We've hosted many events and celebrations here so I find this completely unacceptable. So to the owner Dante, get it together and don't have your staff over book you greedy bastard! Came here for lunch at noon today. The waitress was attentive but the food has definitely gone down hill. We ordered a few items: 1. Oysters: was yummy but came without a spoon scoop the sauce. 2. Clam chowder: was good but cold 3. Baked clams: came completely cold. I had to ask the server to warm it up. By the time it came back out, it was completely overcooked and I didn't want to eat it. I also think the clams were not fresh because it had a fishy smell to it. Plus for the price of over $30 I got like 12 clams. See picture... it wasn't seasoned and pretty tasteless 4. When you think of great seafood places, Crockett might not quite leap to mind. A meal at The Dead Fish will definitely change that The ambience is comfortable and whimsical without being forced or overbearing. The service is friendly and efficient. And the food is high-quality and uniformly well-prepared, from the romaine wedge salad to the bruschetta, and fried calamari appetizers to the cioppino stew and steamed clam entrees and creamed spinach and roasted vegetable and potato sides. There are multiple other options on the menu as well, including some impressive ice cream sundaes, if you have room for dessert. Perhaps the most surprising and delicious of these is the prime rib. It's better than versions I've had at actual steakhouses. The next time you and yours are looking for delicious seafood, prime rib, or both, head to Crockett and The Dead Fish. My friend in North bay had been talking about their crab for a while and finally he took me here. The place had so many cars parked even on the street but we were able to find a spot on the street that wasn't too far. The place is a big place and there were quite few people waiting but we had a reservation and we got seated at a window table without any wait. I really liked our table because we were able to see the bridge and some lights which was a pretty view but I bet day time view is better. The first thing they brought was those braided baguette that I love but not as good as Bouchon but it was still ok. Of course I had to order bunch of crab legs and garlic noodles. The seasoning on those crabs were so good, just wanted to lick it, it was the best crab legs I've ever had (Florida stone crab is my favorite crab but it's different). And we paired it with Napa Sauvignon blanc. For dessert my friend wanted sundae, I wanted tiramisu so we got both Everything was so delicious, my friend said even their steak is good.
