Wow has this place gone downhill. We have been loyal customers for over 20 years... probably not anymore. We had a reservation for Valentine's Day dinner. That part is key to this rant: we had a reservation... which was confirmed... We showed up and saw a huge line out the door. We were informed by the hostess that the huge line was for people WITH a reservation to check in. She said it was an approximate wait of 30 minutes. Once through the "check-in" line, we were told it would be another "20 or so minutes" to be seated. So... in a nutshell, we were told we would need to be waiting for around an hour just to be seated when we had a reservation. We were not informed of this policy when we made the reservation. Needless to say: we left. This isn't my first time here but this latest was absolutely the best experience of them all. The new GM Shazam was professional and personable. He came by to check on us often and did the same for other tables. The only downside was the parking but that was because we went on a Saturday night. The restaurant itself was fabulous. Deceptive Service? 05/14/2025 My wife and I decided on ROAST CRAB for our anniversary dinner. When in San Francisco, the best crab, ever, is served at Than Long. We now live in Martinez and decided "The Dead Fish" in Crockett would be our best choice. We ordered their 3+ lb. Roast. 'Lotsa Crab' (two share) for $89.99. They brought a skillet with a crab that did not look to be 2 lb., Also, despite the high price, rolls cost extra, would you believe? We felt cheated and immediately told them, 'No Thanks.' Apologetic, they did bring us a crab that looked to be 2+lbs. We've never ordered a weight scale at a restaurant, but we considered it. Today I walked in all by myself, to see if there was just one seat at the bar, the hostess could not make a decision so she asked I am assuming her manager, and I could not believe he told me "no" he was booked and I could not sit at the bar. WOW. I totally get it, but no room for one person at the bar, is a total shock, especially when the bar is always suppose to be for walk-ins. I would call it The Potato soup. Fried Calamari*. To much frying breading attached to the calamari with too much fried crust in the plate. The sweet and pickled Jalapeño pepper on top is more popular than the Fried calamari. Sizzling Iron skillet roasted super combo *. My first Mussel is not fresh, second mussel is fresh with sand. Rest of the mussels are all ok. Since they put the big long cast iron plate on top of the rack. ( button bowl is for trash). The food is usually fantastic, large portions and quite delicious! The restaurant is really divided into 3 sections .. upstairs is a funky bar seating, there is outdoor seating overlooking the bay and there is downstairs which feels like you're in a shitty dennys - never eat downstairs. If the weather is nice, definitely try to eat outside. I've been here many times and the food is always outstanding -- however this last time I got the prime rib for the first time and it was easily 20% saturated fat globs that I couldn't eat! Had a groovy time here for a friends birthday. Had to be a party of like 30 ppl. They gave us a whole area where we could laugh & enjoy our celebration without interrupting others in the restaurant. We ordered tons of food, but I was really pleased with the double shrimp and whole crab. The crab & shrimp was sizzling when brought to the table. Food was really good.. all of it! Last night things were very off for the Dead Fish. It was very clear our server was very busy and they over sat him. We come here annually for my birthday for the crab. The view is always great and this time we sat on the patio. It was warm due to the heaters. We were there to celebrate a birthday. When we placed our order for calamari, crab two too, cheese burger with cheese only, and fish and chips. Our server asked if we want the calamari first and we said yes. Well it didn't come. When the rest of the food came we mentioned the calamari and they said they will get it out on the house. We finished dinner and it finally showed up. Our plain cheese burger came with everything on it. I asked for a new bun instead of sending it all back and I literally had to go to the server and ask for it 2x. The crab is nowcooked in this new sauce which is very salty. When the crab came I had to ask for the carb fork, the crackers, the wet wipes. I got up and took plates off the table next to us since we didn't have anything. They brought the birthday candle and the birthday person was in the bathroom. Large windows with our view being the Carquinez Bridge and the Maritime Academy, both across the water. There were lots of birthdays around the restaurant. We heard the birthday song three times. There was plenty of staff. Our server seemed to be rushed, but did answer our questions. Our party of five took awhile to order. Food came out quickly. It was fresh and very hot, served on a metal pan that had been in the oven for sure. Very tasty, everyone ate all of their food Fish selection surprised us considering the name of the place. There are a ton of ways to get shellfish in various sauces and steaming platters. Other choices are Salmon, Sea Bass, Basa, Branzino. You can choose a fish and then choose the sauce preparation. Branzino was good. Light and not fishy. Large pieces of crab on the angel hair lasagna. Crab enchilada sauce had a bit of a kick to it, not too much tho. Shout out to the outstanding service I got from David A (?) visit was 23 Jun 3021, Wednesday. One star off because I reserved a table for 1, yes just me, for 7:30pm. But when I got there, I had to wait an hour before I got seated. What is the use of reservation, please do tell. Or at least call your patrons so we don't have to come on time only to wait. It was not just I who waited. It was as if it was walk-in. Good seafood, enough portion, however my platter was on the salty side so I decided to order salad, Panzanella. Crab was meaty and fresh. Shrimps I think were a tad over cooked but that's just me being picky. Mussels were good as well, all fresh, almost sweet. Panzanella Salad was sour it cuts the saltiness of the seafood. Veggies were fresh. I ordered Riesling to go with my seafood and it was great. I've steered away from Riesling because in my experience they are too sweet for my taste, but this was palatable, sweet but not like a dessert, it went well with the food. If you are a lightweight like me, a glass is plenty enough. I enjoyed my time. David checked in at a good frequency, not so much that it becomes intrusive but not so spaced out like one would feel abandoned. Bathroom though needs a lot of work. So messy, no toilet seat cover, 1 not flushed, tissues everywhere, it was so disgusting I decided to hold it in until I got home. Parking. They have two parking spaces but not enough to accommodate their customers. I had been hearing a lot of hype about this place so finally went to try it out. I didn't think it was anything special. Went with a couple of friends for dinner and drinks. The drinks were on the stronger side. A friend and I shared the double order of crab. It had really good flavor but for the amount we paid, the quantity was small. I would have been better off going to boiling crab which is just as good and you get a ton of other stuff like corn, sausage, and a pound of shrimp with the crab for a cheaper price. The desserts were not good either. Ordered the crunch cake and the cheesecake to go for my kids. They have never left a cheesecake behind and this one they barely ate half of. Hubs and I came to the Dead Fish on a lark, saw the buzz about Nonna's famous crab and thought, "Okay, we'll check it out. How great could it be?" Well, friends, let me tell you, you've never had an experience with crab like this one. I don't know what kind of magic they work in the kitchen but my taste buds were having a party! We ordered the crab and mussels combo platter and it was the perfect dish for two. Dip the bread and everything else in the garlic butter...delish!! We have friends visiting from Washington this weekend and already have a table reserved for some more noshing. Truly the BEST! My only suggestion is bring your own wine as their selection is "meh" and their only Chardonnay isn't good. No corkage fee! Small section of the old rusty crusty bridge on display here with the new one in the background. Great view and easy spot to access to stretch your legs. We've all crossed that old rusty bridge so many times. With that Florida pack and stack condo disaster I guess many of us have a new interest in engineering. You can examine a section of the old unsafe bridge here at your leisure. And examine it I did. I saw some sheets of paint come off it - with rust underneath. Thats not good... Next I saw some graffiti on the inside of the structure... How that get there??? Must be a lot of moisture and salt in the air - given the bay below. Me and the Wife always come here for our Anerversary, this time was terrible, our reservation always which was always honored says a window seat, they sat us way in the back, plus the food portions are way smaller then before there cutting back on everything, we complained to manager he told us we can't give you credit off of your bill as back in the day, mind you we used to pay 100 dollars last year here now bill came out to 300! Tonight we happen to be at the dead fish with the most delightful server, Erin. The food was incredible, to say the least, and we sat on the patio overlooking the bay. After she graciously listened to my tiny story of how we were moving and also celebrating an anniversary her and her colleagues jumped up in order to make this truly a fun celebration for us. What a wonderful way to experience some of our favorite spots. I cannot recommend Erin or the dead fish enough. It was a magical evening. The Dead Fish was an incredible experience. Visited this restaurant to celebrate my besties birthday with her family. So this was a great location and the ambiance was perfect for a intimate, chill and awesome service. The outside was cute and cottage feel from the parking lot, then we wrap around to the entrance with the stripe black and white tents. Inside had some seating and the greeters posted were welcoming and cheerful. They allowed us to sit inside with lounge sofas that looked like a book room. We sat out at the patio that overlooked the water and had nice warmers up above our table so it set the mood nice! Food... was absolutely amazing! Cost was well worth spending, especially with the size of portions they give! We were all able to share plates and take some home. I forget the exact name of each dish, but the pictures do no justice to the taste each dish had. It was so good, I was spooning the dipping sauce and eating it with bread!
