Hands-down the best Old Fashioned I've ever had. Perfect about of whiskey, sweetness, and bitters. None of that cherry business either. The decor was on-point, and the staff was super helpful and friendly. My server and I bonded over res lipstick and my perfectly grilled skirt steak. Terrible, awful experience. First off, we sat at our table for 15 minutes before I finally got up and asked the hostess where our waiter was. She looked confused and went and talked to some people in the back, and it was clear no one was even aware we were there. Prices are SKY HIGH and the food was mediocre at best. Our waitress was not particularly attentive and our entrees were slow in coming, even though it wasn't busy at all. The best thing was the bone marrow, but it wasn't a must-have. No idea how this place has 4 stars in Yelp but it absolutely doesn't deserve it. The most egregious offense of all though was when the manager came over and we explained our poor experience being initially forgotten--he apologized and said he had a surprise for us later. Love the Dearborn! I have been here for both lunch as it's really close to the office and dinner since it's in the theater district. The food is contemporary American and the quality you would expect and that price point. Two reasons for the 4 star instead of 5 review: I always seem to find myself with a vegetarian when I come here and there are considerably more vegetarian options on their lunch menu. The dinner menu is somewhat lacking in vegetarian entrees. Their staff is beyond friendly however they are very aggressive about pushing your meal along and you need to fight for them not to take your plate away before you are done even though we are never ones to linger. read more

For the sake of this review I will spare you the details but it was my "friends birthday", and I wrote that on the reservation. When we were taken to our seat and our waiter greeted us she was given a card in an envelope (it was a handwritten little happy birthday speech). Once our orders came that's when the night began. I had the Squash and Apple Bisque and I will admit that I am not used to ordering a soup at a fancy restaurant and actually leaving with a full belly. The meal was delicious, filling and well plated, the restaurant itself was clean, elegant, and classy with an amazing ambiance. Would've loved to have gone here. On vacation and exploring the city. Went in...we were dressed casual - sundresses and Jean jackets. Hostess didn't really bother to look past my 11 year old and said it would be a "longer wait - 45 mins." However, the woman behind us walked in w two teens - no reservation - and was told 10 mins. She even said to me that it seemed odd. Now to be clear, we dined at the Gage the previous night. My children are well behaved and old enough to be more than appropriate. The Dearborn is a Loop restaurant right in the heart of Chicago. I came here for brunch with some friends and I liked the place. The place is very cool looking. It has very cool lighting, lots of windows, and an old-school vibe. We had a pretty big group so we ordered some appetizers. We split some fried chicken and the Cookies N Cream donut holes. The appetizers were amazing! And I actually liked them better than my main dish. The fried chicken was hot, fried to perfection, and lots of flavor. The Cookies N Cream Donut Holes were made from oreos and had a sugary frosting that just melted in your mouth. For my entree, I ordered the Salmon Benedict. It was just okay. To be fair, I probably shouldn't have ordered fish in Chicago in February. It was a little dry and I wish it had more hollandaise sauce over it. Prices are average and is what to expect in the Loop. They had a full bar with lots of liquor options. I had a Bloody Mary, which was good. They had a lot of cocktails that looked pretty good too. This is a good place to have brunch and I will have to try it again for dinner or have a different entree for brunch next time. read more

My husband and I came for dinner for our anniversary, we were started with champagne and a lovely card wishing us a happy anniversary from the team here. Our server Josh was amazing, he went above and beyond to take care of us as well as the busser who stayed on top of water refills and clearing our table. We were wished a happy anniversary from Sarah the AGM who was kind and took care of our dessert. We could not have been more blown away by the amazing food, the NY steak strip we shared ( chefs choice on the temp) was one of the top steaks I've ever had, coming from a native Californian. We came here to celebrate a special occasion, and they treated us to free champagne. The service was superb, and the whole restaurant had a classy ambiance. I recommend making a reservation just in case. We ordered the Midwest fried chicken and the Dearborn burger. The fried chicken was crispy, flavorful with its buttermilk and maple-mustard glaze, and had a slight heat from the hot sauce--definitely a must-try. The burger was easily one of my favorites, and I've had a lot of burgers. I ordered it medium rare, and the meat just melted in my mouth. The quality of the meat, along with the Wisconsin cheddar and special sauce, made it incredibly delicious. read more

This restaurant is beautiful. We stopped in after having seen Hamilton and it was about 1030 on a Thursday. Didn't realize last call is 1130, and they turn the lights on and kick you out at midnight. Got the vibe the waiter hated us, which is not a great feeling to have. I found the staff not overly helpful when I asked questions and so maybe this place is snooty (although obviously their clientele is tourists and there was a dude drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon at the bar). Brussels sprouts were delicious, and overall the food was edible and yummy. Drinks were good and selection was vast. I think if the service had been more approachable it would have been a 4 Star. read more

I've been to the Dearborn a few times but my visit in April was most disappointing. The Rueben had a lot of sauerkraut and only a few chunky pieces of corned beef. It didn't taste bad but was poorly made. The truffle soup was also a disappointment. Truffles are a strong flavor and this soup had too many truffles. I hope these hiccups this will improve with time as this is a nice location. read more

Delicious food, wonderful cocktails, and fantastic service! This place was so good that we went here twice during our Chicago trip! The Volpi pepperoni & fresh mozzarella pizza was wonderful; the thin crust was nice and crispy and they did not skimp on the pepperoni (which was placed under the cheese). The fish and chips - which beat Bobby Flay! - are as good as people say; each bite of the fish was heavenly and the fries were the perfect amount of crunchy. Now onto the drinks! On our first visit here, we loved the Ceiling Breaker so much we got it 2x! During our second visit, we ordered a dirty martini, made with their own fantastic gin, and their Daley Manhattan. The Dearborn is an American style restaurant in downtown Chicago next to Millennium Park that has a pleasant atmosphere coupled with good food. The location is also very accessible, which is why I had no difficulty finding it I enjoyed the atmosphere as well as the meal. They provide a wide range of food options., some a bit pricey. We ordered the Beat Bobby Flay Fish and chips. Highly rated. Very good cod and fries. As we watched plates go by our portion of the cole slaw seemed to be 50% or other orders. Disappointing as it was very good. Homemade ice cream was delicious, Don't skip that - both the Salted Carmel brownie and Blueberry ice cream were excellent. Our server was ok but only came by to take our order, checked in as we received our food and then when it was time for desert/Bill. Would I return - YES! read more

I do like this place. I have been here several times and the service has always been great and so has the food (except their pizza, which looks & feels like an open quesadilla). However, I was disappointed when they charged me for asking for some 'hot sauce' to go with my entree. Now, I don't know any restaurant that charges for hot sauce which is essentially a condiment to go with your meal. Outside of this little blip I don't have any complaints. After looking at reviews here, we decided fairly last minute on a Monday night to head over to The Dearborn for dinner. We arrived at 7:30 and were told there was a 20-minute wait. They took our # and texted us when our table was ready. Smooth sailing so far. Our waiter was fantastically on top of things. It was about 3 minutes before we saw them for the first time. And they apologized for the delay. What delay? They were right on time. For an appetizer, we got the prosciutto and gruyere croquettes. Piping hot, smooth on the inside and delicious. I could taste neither the prosciutto nor the gruyere because the crunchy goodness was perfectly balanced between all the ingredients. They were on a bed of shredded Brussels sprouts that were probably supposed to be more of a garnish. We ate that too. And it was also tasty. I had the fish and chips, hubs had the Miller Amish chicken and son had the prosciutto and fried egg pizza. Truffle fries for the table. All were fantastic. The fish and chips were the right size for 1-1/2 people, served on a bed of fries. I didn't try to chicken but the gents at the table really liked it. The pizza was large and we took half of it home. Upon the recommendation of the waiter, we got the Deaborn's homemade ranch to dip the pizza in. I didn't do that, but I sure did dip the truffle fries into the ranch. My son said it had to be one of his top 5 ranch dressings ever. I don't disagree. I had a gin and tonic. It was fine. No one else was drinking. Overall, a really relaxing night with great food in the best city in the country. We'll be back. read more

Came here on a Saturday night and it wasn't terribly busy. The mood of the place was kind of romantic. Our waiter was very nice and the food came out fast. Ordered the fish and chips and the wedge salad and the chive milk bun. The milk bun was soft and flavorful and I loved the butter. The fish was very crisp yet light and airy on the inside and had a good flavor. The fries were good too. As far as the wedge salad, it had so much blue cheese and bacon and was filling on its own. Just a word of warning (because I was caught off guard). The menu is pretty small and a lot of the food you see in Yelp pictures are not going to be available. This is a MUST for anyone looking for a fabulous dining experience!!!! I called very last minute to get a reservation and Matthew was truly a gem! He was able to get us a great table with Kasani, who made the BEST recommendations for every dining decision. We enjoyed a delicious salad which was big enough to share but you should definitely order your own, it's so yummm! My husband had the Prime Filet Mignon, prepared perfect for him!!! I had a delicious First Class Flight beverage that was so delicious! I savored every drop... then the Wild Alaskan Halibut. Yummmm!!!! We shared the mashed potatoes, they were super creamy. We finished with the Chocolate Cherry Bombe for dessert. The best part of the entire dinner was the extra care Kasani went to to check every item I ordered was Gluten Free. He checked with the Executive Chef to ensure I was not exposed to gluten. His extra efforts allowed me to relax and truly enjoy my personal dining experience with my husband! First off, myself and 3 other friends visited here for a Birthday! And it was an outstanding experience. I made the reservation through opentable, which was quick and easy. Upon arriving to the restaurant we were greeted with smiles and great energy. We were seated immediately and our booth was awesome! It was super cozy and also had a sense of privacy as there were curtains on the outside which we could close! Dan, our waiter was awesome. He was prompt, attentive, funny, and honest. An all-around pleasant waiter and I couldn't have been happier to have had him help us out! Upon arriving to the table (as i had noted in openable that we were there for a Birthday) Dan brought a handwritten thank you not to my friend whose birthday it was! How nice!! Not many restaurants offer this type of hospitality / service. Also desert was included with a candle at the end J The menu offered a variety of entrees which can cater to those vegetarian and not. I had the lamb shank, side of mac and cheese - which was AMAZING. Everything was cooked to pure perfection. No complaints at all whatsoever. Others in my party had - the scallops, steak, and salad with grilled salmon! I literally couldn't even put into words how great my experience was and I would definitely recommend this place. Perfect location in the Theater District. We stopped by for an early dinner before a cocktail reception. Since we were there around 4:00pm, the restaurant was basically empty. We were seated promptly and had our waiter all to ourselves. I had the Chicken Shawarma Tacos from the appetizer menu. They were good but just a tad dry and definitely needed more of the garlic yogurt. D had the Fish & Chips, which he said was very good. We also shared a bowl of Crispy Brussels Sprouts. My girlfriend and I came here late for lunch while having the worst hangover ever. The first thing I notice about this restaurant is the ambiance. I love it! It reminds me of a very clean speakeasy bar. The menu choices are impressive! There are so many things that sounded so delicious! We ordered 3 things and shared it. We had the bowl of the Ribeye and Mushroom. The bowl was huge! Way too much for the both of us, but we still tried our best to finish. The soup was very tasty, not too salty, and I really appreciated that the ingredients were placed in a way that looked like a fancy pho dish, or an upscale ramen dish. For a small bite, we had the crispy brussels sprouts. Absolute fire! From the parmesan cheese, to whatever vinaigrette is in there, everything blended well and was a true compliment to those leafy greens! The last thing was the Dearborn French Dip. Now I have had my share of French Dips in my life, but this one is absolutely stunning! Everything about it is perfect! My two french dip pet peeves is that when you first get the french dip, the bottom slice of bread is already soaked and soggy from the juices of the meat and au ju. This wasn't the same. That bottom slice was soft and warm and read to be finished in seconds. My second pet peeve is the bread being so hard as if it was last nights batch. Not the case on this either. The bread was so damn good. How many times do people mention the bread when it comes to sandwiches? This bread was delightful! The ribeye was so damn good! Words cannot even explain how good it was, so I'm not even going to try. The grueyere cheese made that sandwich look so sexy, and that tiny tiny tiny hint of horseradish creme was very flirtatious with my tastebuds. Is this the best sandwich that I have ever ate in life? Outstanding service and equally great food! The cocktail menu is imaginative; I had the Keratin Experience, which is a fresh take on a margarita using carrot juice instead of lime. Quite good! Excellent selection of wines. We had a beet & burrata salad and the prosciutto & goat cheese flatbread. Also excellent. The chive & cheddar cheese milk bread was the only thing that didn't live up to expectations. We both had The Dearborn burger, which comes with optional fois gras or bone marrow.
