I would not ever recommend this place for food safety, refund dishonesty, and how they treat their paying customers. My wife and I visited The Den in McCall, Idaho on Sunday, June 7, during our first trip to the area. We were excited to try it after seeing many positive reviews online, and it was the first place we stopped after arriving in town. When we arrived, we were told there would be a 10-15 minute wait, which seemed completely reasonable given how busy they were. After about 10 minutes, we were seated. Unfortunately, our experience declined from there. Our server never introduced herself, didn't ask how we were doing, and after seating us with water, disappeared for approximately 10-15 minutes before returning to take our drink order. I ordered a maple cinnamon latte, and my wife ordered a London Fog. After placing our drink order, we waited roughly 30 minutes without any update. During that time, we noticed several groups that arrived after us were seated, received drinks, ordered food, and were already eating. When we finally got our server's attention and asked about the delay, we were told the kitchen was extremely backed up. About 10 minutes later-approximately 40 minutes after ordering, we finally received our drinks. Both were cold. My wife's London Fog appeared to be little more than water with milk and a tea bag placed in the cup, with the tea never having had a chance to steep properly. Only after the drinks arrived was our food order taken. We then waited another 25 minutes without receiving any food. At that point, after spending well over an hour at the restaurant with no meal served, my wife and I decided it would be best to leave and find another place to eat. Before leaving, I asked to speak with a manager or owner because I wanted to provide feedback about our experience. I was told our food was just about to come out, but by then we had already decided to leave. I explained that we had watched multiple parties who arrived after us receive their drinks, meals, and finish dining before we had even been served food. I then asked for our server's name because she had never introduced herself. I was told her name was Lexi. When I mentioned that I intended to leave a Google review describing our experience, the conversation became confrontational. I was asked if I understood what negative reviews could do to a small business. I explained that I did and that reviews exist to help businesses improve and to inform future customers. At that point, we were told we were no longer welcome and were asked to leave. As we walked out, the owner followed us and threatened to call the sheriff, During the same interaction, she shouted to her husband that I was "a liberal," apparently intending it as an insult. I found that comment completely inappropriate and unrelated to the situation. Whatever someone's political beliefs may be has absolutely nothing to do with the level of service they should expect as a paying customer. (I'm Libertarian if that matters to you) The situation continued to escalate as we walked toward our vehicle. Rather than addressing the concerns we raised, the focus seemed to shift toward hostility and intimidation. When my wife and I turned around and offered to have a conversation about what had happened, there was no meaningful attempt to resolve the issue. I understand that restaurants have busy days and that delays happen. Had the issue simply been slow service, this review likely would not exist. What ultimately prompted me to write this review was the way our concerns were handled when we tried to provide respectful feedback. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend The Den. We came in excited to try a highly rated local restaurant and left feeling unwelcome, disrespected, and disappointed. The poor service was frustrating, but being threatened with a call to the sheriff and being labeled a "liberal" during a customer service dispute made the experience far worse. No customer should be treated that way for raising concerns about their experience. read more

We did get a window seat, which was nice. But this is supposed to be an upper scale restaurant in the area, and the silverware we were given was dirty, so not a great start. The server came to take our order, we ordered mocktails and a huckleberry lemon drop as well as the bread basket and the cured meat and cheese plate- compared to the Cutwater, honestly, no comparison. The teens didn't even drink the mocktail (which the server did take off the bill, and that was nice) and the lemon drop was okay. The bread basket and meat plate were fine, but we wouldn't order them again. My son ordered the 12oz ribeye (which was nearly 60.00) and I would say at least 50% of it was fat, and his was overcooked. I ordered the flat iron, and mine was undercooked, so he ended up eating mine. The herb roasted potatoes needed seasoning and felt like something they simply tossed on the plate. My daughter's Caesar salad was as expected to a side salad. Our server never came to check on us after the food was brought out, and we waited for her to return after we were done with the food for nearly 20 minutes. Overall we were disappointed and not truly certain why this place is recommended above other similar places in town. Very expensive, seems like it is trying to be upscale or more "fine-dining" but it missed the mark for us.

We will definitely be back and we give this a 5 must visit.
