This place is great. My favorite bar, hands down. Awesome atmosphere, friendly patrons and the best owner/ bartender in all of Philadelphia. They have happy hour 7 days a week with $2 beer (usually a different PBC draft) or liquor *usually rum or bourbon) special from 5 -7, with free pizza. A very interesting and strong to its name - dive bar. After my first time visiting I was lucky enough to have Chris as my bartender. He was AMAZING! The drinks are cheap and good too! So I went to The Dive Bar with a friend after already having had a lions share of wine and Makers. When I first walked into The Dive it was like I was back home where i grew up in No-No-town. The atmosphere is pure dive (love it). The people hanging out there are all real people with no false pretenses. The Dive Bar makes no apologies for what it is....... a drinking hole and for that they get 4 stars. I've only been there one time (so I'll reserve any stars) but I hope it's not my last (hint! hint!). I'd love to go back and sample some more of their awesome selection of beers. Of course the owner/bartender, Johnny, kindly dressed in a pretty nighty to amuse all the patrons. He was a little flat chested and all the tattoo's were a little distracting, but otherwise he was a sexy damn bartender (lol) with a great attitude. John has surely re-invented the 'dive' bar. Coining the very name itself it caters to both locals, hipsters, and probably some sea captains. This place is too hard to describe that you literally just have to walk in and see for yourself. There's an upstairs area now open again where sometimes djs spin and a third floor hidden pool table. The bonus of getting some booze and chatting it up with some friends is the wonderful free pizza provided for your service. Though don't be greedy, two slices per person, but after 7pm it's up for grabs. Where else will you get beer with free pizza? John, usually the bartender most nights, will greet you and have some very amazing stories to share for you or just listen to the stories he's already shouting as he runs up and down the walk tapping glasses and exchanging smiles. So if you're feeling like a rogue pirate or um not... just pop inside and get ready to watch 'The Simpsons' on the big screen as your sipping down a cold one with PIZZA! read more

I came here recently with a group of friends and although it is "a dive," it's absolutely splendid! I walk into a stench of cigarette smoke and it took me back to the days of my youth when that was the norm in any bar. The decor reminded of frat house of days past while girls whizzed by me in pairs to the bathroom. It felt like I had stepped back in time. Then I remembered I'm not 19 anymore. I'm not even 29. Now I'm a little older, I can use the ladies room on my own, no longer smoke and have more refined taste. All while retaining some semblance of cool. So I passed on the Jagerbomb specials some dudes thought I should get while I perused the very delightful beer list and decided on a Dogfish. I mean, where else can you get a 60 Minute for $4.50???? That in itself has made this a bar I will come back to again. Especially now that I've seen something about free pizza for happy hour. What? read more

No more smoking. Dive changed it up and banned smoking on the first floor, they cleaned up the place, and now its better than ever. Still have cheap drinks, the friendliest bartenders, but no more wall of smoke. If u havent been here in awhile, give it another shot! read more

Great little spot!! I dont know why ppl wouldn't love this place. It is what it says it is. Its not trying to be something else. $2 happy hour is the whip!!! Everyone knows its a smoking bar and there's no smoking 1st floor. If you can step out of your ego and have a good time, its the place to be. If you want things gentrified and faux schmancy, go to Royal Tavern- or better yet, Applebee's. read more

This is my neighborhood watering hole. All the bartenders are awesome and extremely personable, the prices are very affordable, and the regulars make you feel right at home. Great spot to get trashed in or just stop in for a few cheap drinks and a shot of mad dog. If you stay here for more than an hour you may as well smoke some cigarettes because your going to feel like shit in the morning because of the second hand smoke.
