We came for a drink and to enjoy the dome, sat at one of the booths along the side and the bartender didn't greet us, only said "it's bar service only", aka I'm not gonna walk over to you and serve you - you could have just greeted us and we could easily hold a conversation with you from the booth and wouldn't minded to stand up to get our drinks. I asked for a menu and he had to go in the back to get them. The menu was on a iPad which I hate. We got a local beer each but they were flat. Saw bartender be a lot nicer to patrons sat a the bar. The Dome Bar is loved by locals and tourists alike and has one of the most beautiful stained glass installations you'll ever come across. Rightfully named The Dome Bar since it's... well... shaped like a dome lol. This bar is the main hotel bar for the Paso Del Norte hotel, it is a sight to behold in the daytime and then at nighttime. Whether it be a same day visit or a multi-visit experience, it is perfect for a pre-drink before going to a show at The Plaza or a just because outing. Reservations are not needed and there is first-come, first-serve seating around the bar. I've been there a few times when they have a pianist playing songs in the background. It's a bonus touch that I really admire. The drinks are pretty solid and they also have beer and wine for folks who might not want a stiff drink. I also love their take and approach when you ask for a non-alcoholic drink. Service can be five-star or servers can get a bit caught up with regulars (as with any establishment). Drink prices can be a little pricey; however, this is an absolute must for anyone. read more

Had a great week in El Paso. I closed out each night with a (or 3+) delicious expresso martinis at the Dome bar in the hotel lobby. The bartenders were great and actually enjoyed making the drink and almost challenging each other to who made a better one. The atmosphere is upscale but relaxed. They had a singer one night and she was fabulous. One night a piano player who was also very good. I highly recommend this bar, and the hotel. read more

It was really working for me as a nice bar to relax at u til the band started playing. I guess I'm to old to be screaming at a hotel bar and still not be heard. My date and I came for a couple drinks. I went all Bourdain and ordered a Negroni. It was perfect but I should have ordered a double. Someone must have measured it with a micro milliliter cup as I felt it barely covered the ice cube. But it tasted great. I didn't want a big feed with it so I ordered the "Trail Mix". That was a big let down. I wanted the mixed nuts but the fake jalapeño heated dark chocolate mess it was in made me gag my dinner. For fear of losing it I only had one bite. The waitress was great and I just orders my second Negroni when the band just let loose. Four or five live musicians playing as if they were in a theater. Ok, that was enough for me. The dome was beautiful and the marble spectacular. When that much cool stone has full bore wind and percussion instruments, you get the point. Definitely recommend you come but stick to drinks and bolt when you see any musicians tuning up. read more

The Thursday night that we went there was a lady singing and yes she sang great because of the Dome ceiling the sound is LOUD! So, husband and I were traveling doing a Texas/New Mexico road trip and checked into the hotel. We were looking for a place for a nice glass of bourbon. We got a menu and decided to get some bourbon. I had Bulleit Rye and he had Bulleit, both got them with 1 large cube ( which by the way large cube is extra charge). After 20 minutes without a server even acknowledging us ( both servers walked by at least 10 times), I took all the empty glasses and closed out tabs from the previous customers to the bar and ordered my own drinks. The "high tea" was disgusting. Bread was stale as was the filling-made 2days prior. Tea was in bags, water too cold to steep, scone was a stale biscuit, finger desserts were from Albertson's, service was terrible. We complained but that went no where. read more

Oh my gosh, have you ever had an English teatime experience? If you haven't, you are seriously missing out on a seriously delightful treat! I recently went to High Tea at the Dome Bar @hotelpdn with my girlfriend for a VERY belated birthday celebration and let me tell you, it was so much fun! First of all, let's talk about the food. Oh my goodness, the food was to die for! We had these tiny little cucumber sandwiches, ham, and salmon ones cut into rectangles; my favorite was probably the egg sandwich. They were so dainty and delicate, and they tasted like a little slice of heaven. Then there were these tiny little scones that just melted in your mouth. We topped them with clotted cream and Bonne Mamman jams in tiny jars and it was a total game changer! I LOVE clotted cream and it's a total pain in the butt to make and even more expensive to purchase so this was a total indulgence. But the pièce de résistance was definitely the desserts. We had these adorable little cakes that were decorated with cream and a cherry on top. They were so pretty, it was almost a shame to eat them. But of course, we did. And let me tell you, they were absolutely delicious. There was this one cake that had a light and fluffy sponge with a layer of pineapple and cream in the middle, and it was just perfection. They even made their own little version of a Swiss Roll with chocolate ganache! The whole experience was just so girly and fun. We sat at this cute little table with a floral tablecloth and pretty teacups. We even had our own little teapot, which made us feel so fancy. And the tea itself was so flavorful and aromatic. We tried a few different blends, but my favorite was definitely the Earl Grey. It was so rich and fragrant, I could have drank it all day! We also had a Carajillo, it was her first one and she loved it and wondered how it would taste with Vietnamese coffee. The smell of the freshly brewed coffee mixed with the brandy was so intoxicating. When I took my first sip, I was blown away by the complex flavors. The sweetness from the sugar balanced out the bitterness of the espresso, while the brandy added a warm and comforting element to the drink. If you ever have the chance to try a Carajillo, I highly recommend it! Overall, the English teatime experience was a total blast. It was so much fun to dress up, enjoy these fancy little treats and catch up with my girlfriend. I can't wait to do it again! read more

The service was great despite a super busy night. Patience with the barman is always key. I have been here several times; even on National Bourbon Day where the Dome Bar had a great Bourbon night with some smooth jazz at the piano bar. The Dome offers some Bourbon Barrel Vintages blended in French, Mizunara, and American Oaks. This in a splendid setting with a recently (2020) renovated Dome that has a great of history to tell. This is one of my favorite place to go for some drinks and bites in El Paso. Located in the El Paso Del Norte Hotel downtown, the Dome bar brings the elegance of the 20th century with some well preserved features such as the Tiffany-style, high stained glass dome ceiling. The story goes that after some libitation some revolutionaries would go to the 10th floor and watch some troop in-fighting. Only in El Paso!! You even have a restored bronze statue of General Pancho Villa welcoming U. S. General John Pershing at the entry of the hotel. This is a great place that captures the time and atmosphere of everything that is good about our great city of El Paso! read more

We went to the Dome Bar on a busy Saturday night before the holiday season, so that may have impacted our experience. It was very busy and crowded with standing room only by about 8:30pm. I ordered one their seasonal drinks and it was good, but the amaretto was very overpowering and made it hard to drink. I don't know what else was in there, but maybe the point was just the amaretto flavor. My husband had a couple of classic drinks that were okay. Nothing good, nothing bad. They had live music, but it felt like a bit much in an otherwise classy and open space. Glad we went to experience it, but it was just okay overall. read more

I used to be a musician that played every Sunday at the Dome. It used to be a classy place to get drinks and grub that was expertly poured and served. Last night we sat down at 6:30, placed a drink and food order and were not served our food for an hour and 10 minutes. When it finally came, it was cold, overcooked with graying color on the meat meaning it had been sitting out for quite some time. Upon ordering a second drink it took close to 10 minutes to get it. I lived in New York City for ten years and understand busy/overwhelmed kitchens/bars. But this place was NOT busy. The young lady who served us was rude, never checked on us, and was usually talking at the bar without attending to her tables. I am incredibly disappointed. As a Marriott Gold Elite member I will make sure to rate this hotel bar as one of the worst. read more

The setting is exquisite. We visited this bar specifically for the Tiffany dome ceiling and it did not disappoint. However, just as you can't live in a view (when it comes to a home), you can't drink in one either. The cocktails were not impressive and the alcohol selection was marginal. Of course, they have a limited amount of space due to the logistics of the place. The bartender was attentive, and the musical entertainment was good, though a bit loud at times. read more

This was a good find for strangers rolling through town. A great space that suffered tremendously from a video projector casting an ENORMOUS image of an off-brand sitcom. Why? Why would they possibly do that? The severs were reasonably friendly, if not professionally nice. The image I kept flashing on afterwards was if some cousin of mine were watching the bar for a friend who owed him money. They would respond when called, and bring what was requested, but it all felt like they were doing someone a great favor just to be there. For the road-weary traveler it's nice to have a clean place to go. I would visit again, but not before trying out a lot of other places. read more

Don't waste your time or money! Stopped by for a drinks and appetizers on the way to Wicked. So glad I came early, because the service was soooo slow! My wife wanted to stop by for dinner at the dome restaurant, but after standing at the host desk for 5 minutes and no one showed up to seat us we gave up and went to the bar. There was plenty of seating around the bar and we able to quickly put in our order, but that was the only thing that was quick. After taking our drink order, the bartender kinda wandered aimlessly around for a while. We only ordered a beer and a glass of wine. Should have been very straight forward, not rocket science or alchemy involved. After 5 minutes or so, he comes back to us and asks us what we ordered again? What? Really? So, he wanders around some more, and comes back with a glass of wine for my wife.... but where is my beer? Doesn't say a word, drops off her drink and walks away. So on his next pass, I ask where is the beer and he says that he has to get it from the back and walks away again...not to the back. It literally took 15 minutes just to get a beer! We had ordered food at about the same time as our drinks and let the servers know that we were in a hurry because we were going to the theatre. After the drinks took so long, we were really concerned that the food was going to an issue. They checked on it and said that the kitchen was really backed up because the restaurant was so busy. It wasn't! There were like 3 tables of 2-4 people in there when we didn't get seated. Anyways, it took 45 minutes to get an order of fish tacos and sea bass. Fish tacos were ok. Nothing to write home about, the sea bass on the other hand was horrible! It was dry and smothered with some sort of mushy tomato concoction. Sea bass is usually most and tasty on it own requiring little beyond salt, pepper and a little lime, but these guys managed to ruin it. If we were not in such a hurry and my wife not averse to making a scene, I would have sent it back and asked them to sample it themselves. This place could be happening, it is a cool lounge with lots of seating where you can bring a big group of friends to hang out, but the service and food is terrible. Epic fail! read more

Currently I'd say this is one of the worst businesses in El Paso. Harsh I know. Why? So a few of my friends like to hold these Happy Hour Socials, and we were looking for a classy place where under 21ers could hang with the older crowd in our group who'd like to drink a few, which is what brought us to the Dome Bar. December 2012. It was a very cold evening, I'm dressed up slick like 007, got the diddy going on in my head. I'm looking forward to seeing my friends, and partying it up downtown El Paso style. I walk in go up to the bar and order, admittedly I'm not thinking here, Machallan's 18 year, which I choose over the 12. LOL, I know stupid not to ask price, as I ask for a double on the rocks. Scotch tasted great, the company was fantastic, but why is it that we all had to keep our long coats on? Because this place is to cheap to pay for heating. Just as they drag their feet to fix their priceless glass dome. The antique wooden furniture, threadbare and loose in frame. The place is falling apart, and the owner's don't care. Whatever, I order up 2 more shiner's from the nice cocktail waitress, and eventually a pal offers to buy me a glass of that drink I was having earlier...I laugh and say "well thanks pal, don't bother getting the 18, I'd be happy going 12." He says, sure bud, orders and collects ticket to check out. ; ) ...lol he takes a look at it, and he exclaims, "golly son, that's some expensive Scotch you're drinking" You can imagine my nervousness, I'm like with a squeaked voice, "uhh check please!" So yeah, this is partially my fault I know. Machallan's 18 year goes for $32.00 a hit, so a double is $64.00. That with two beers, for a tab of $73.00. Holy cow, my buzz disappeared quick! I paid, tiny tip. What?!? Bartender doesn't bother to tell me they charge 12 bucks more than what everyone else in El Paso basically charges, and they don't use that money to make the lobby somewhat decently comfortable, with the money they extort from their guests. Hey an important lesson learned. I keep the receipt to this day, and so in some part I owe them thanks. Yelpers, being thrifty, and not so full of yourself as not to ask price is not a vice, but a virtue. This hotel/bar also does not know how to make cocktails. Coca-cola does not go into an old-fashioned. So incompetent staff, incompetent management, and the owner doesn't care. Friends take your business elsewhere. Ok I am sorry, but GQ named this place one of the Top 12 bars in the world? Who paid them? Not to be rude, but the bar itself is nice and you feel classy drinking here. The bartenders are usually really nice and talkative. I have been here on several occasions and one of those occasions walked out with a $250 bar tab for 4 people. It isn't the best place I've been to, but it is the best place to get difficult drinks done right. Such as Long Island Iced Teas and Mojitos. If you get only one drink and want a drink that is just so good it will make you stay for another and another, get the Mojito. It is made with the traditional ingredients and topped with a brown sugar rock candy stirrer. The only reason I keep coming back. Make sure you miss the nights when the nortena music is blaring, probably the only time I've wanted to walk out due to the rude clientele and loud music. read more

Thursday evening I haven't found a trustworthy babysitter since moving to El Paso, so my husband hasn't been able to take me on any "official" dates. I found a Groupon for this restaurant and decided to use it as a reason to pressure him to take me out for the evening. $25 for $50; sounds like a great deal, right? The Dome restaurant is located off of The Dome bar- inside the Camino Real Hotel. The hotel is old, and has an antique luxury appearance to it. I would have felt comfortable wearing a powdered wig and knickerbockers in there. A great place for a local Illuminati chapter to meet. Anyway, The bar was dimly lit by the evening light coming through the dome and tea light candles placed n all of the cocktail tables. The bar was centered under the dome, with a solo bartender serving a handful of guests who seemed to be business professionals. After entering, we stood near the entrance to the restaurant for several minutes before being greeted and seated by Gerardo. I ordered the Mojito as was suggested by another Yelper, and was disappointed not to get a brown sugar encrusted stirrer. My husband ordered the "Duck- Two ways", $29. I ordered the five-course dinner as was highly recommended by Gerardo. It was a long wait to get the ahi appetizer, and a log wait to get the soup But suddenly, the side salad came out!. My soup was quickly swept away :( My husband enjoyed his roasted duck and duck egg roll. I unfortunately couldn't eat my entrée or the dessert because I began to feel ill. Gerardo asked us if we had a Groupon before bringing the check, and I kinda felt like Oprah Winfrey shopping in Hermes (Do I "look" like I can't eat here without a coupon!?) This is one place that suffers because of its clientele. Where Dallas has the $50K millionaires and Austin has the 'keep it weird" demographic, The Dome Bar is something that falls in between that. That is, a crowd of people living above their means but 'keepin it real' so to speak. Its refreshing in that most here know that he or she is generally posing, but frustrating in that they can keep the facade going for soo long. But the bar itself is gorgeous, crowned my its most distinguishing feature, its Tiffany Glass dome. The pours here are typically weaker than usual, but the prices are far cheaper than most hotel bars in every city around the world. Plus, the slow stream of alcohol will entice you to stick around for a few more drinks than normal because this is definitely a place worth grabbing more than a couple cocktails. read more

I was there last night with two friends at the Dome Bar for drinks. I am EXTREMELY disappointed in the place. The cocktail waitress was extremely inattentive the entire time we were there. She eventually just disappeared completely, and after looking for her for at least 10 minutes so that we could pay our tab and leave, the other waitress informed us that she had gone to a room with an Army gentleman to do, well whatever they were going to do up there. She was finally called to come back down so that we could pay and leave. I have spent many years in the service industry and this is deplorable. I am from Austin and have never before had this negative of an experience. But the unprofessionalism that happened last night makes me question whether or not I will be frequenting the place again. read more

Wonderful Great Gatsby era with the Tiffany dome gives this bar the feel of turn of the century 1900. This bar is very nice but not everything that glitters is gold. We check in the hotel upon late arrival my mom and I decided to go for a drink and maybe snack on something. We didn't know how the seating worked so we were a little lost. Thank goodness a beautiful looking woman ( she turned out to be a very talented singer, they had as entertainment that night) told us you can seat at any table. Ok, here we go there was two tables in the process of being cleaned. A gentleman man (bus boy) took the empty cups from the table but never came to wipe it down. We continue to patiently wait for the table, no one came until a well dressed nice looking couple came in. I believe they knew the manager because he took care of them personally. The manager went to pick up one last cup that was left on the table called one of his servers to come and clean it. We believed we had been waiting for the table so we sat thinking ok we are finally going to get service. No! The manager(guy in a blue suit) rerouted the server to come clean another table that was dirty re- arrange seats to make the couple comfortable. The couple was immediately brought a bottle of wine and glasses all happening right in front of us. Long story short this was extremely embarrassing for us. My mom felt discriminated, she believes we re discriminated based on our appearance. Yes. We didn't look like we were going to a club like everyone else. We were staying at the hotel but had a long day to go up and change. I'm a business owner and I learned through the years that is foolish of any establishment to select who they "think" has money and who doesn't. From my experience people with an education and wealth don't worry too much on impressing others. Moral of the story Mr. Aguilar (manager) Atleast that's what one of the servers said he believed his last name was. Which by the way when I asked who mismanaged the place he mention manager was new. Despite what some haters have to say about the Dome bar, this is a great place to kickback and relax. The bar is inside the historic Camino Real Hotel built in 1930. The Tiffany glass dome is a really great touch. This bar is elegantly designed and embodies class and good taste. Many famous stars, artist, authors, actors, and political figures have stayed at this hotel and visit this enticing bar.They have great martinis, mojitos, and just about any drink you can think of. The atmosphere is great and the clientele and staff are really friendly and very attentive. They have a variety of live bands; including some great jazz bands.This is a great place to relax and unwind with a date or a group of friends. read more
