I'm absolutely disgusted and disappointed!!! Despite the fact my togo order (Chuck Wagon chicken) was tasteless and dry, same with my second order (Chicken Fried Chicken). All of that is MILD compared to the DEAD FLY that was discovered seconds before a bite was taken, baked into the outside of a roll...GROSS! Well the rolls were returned to the store and management greatly refunded the rolls that I assumed came with the meals like when I dine in. No they didn't appear embarrassed or to concerned, and no they did not take care of the two meals that may or may not have been infested with flies. Wife and I went for late lunch about 3pm. Only 10 people there. Ordered 2 chicken fried steak dinners lunch size. Initially server gave us 2 rolls and butter. It took about 20 minutes before our meal came. We asked for additional rolls and she said they had to cook them. After 15 minutes we still didn't have them. I asked again and it took an extra 5 minutes. By this time my dinner was almost finished and cold. She gave me 4 rolls. Point is I like rolls with dinner. I tried the Cotton Patch in Cedar Hill years ago and I was disappointed. For that reason alone I stayed away from other locations. However, with the beginning of the new year I figured I would give the Waxahachie location a chance. So, I ordered the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and Mac & Cheese, chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes, corn and a grilled cheese kids meal. The chicken steak was hard in some places and impossible to cut. The potatoes were far from creamy and closer to hard as a brick. The Mac & Cheese was too soupy and bland. The chicken fried chicken was bland. And the most disappointing was the grilled cheese. It looked as if the bread was microwaved instead of grilled on the stove. There have been a few changes lately for the better. A nice bright happy, atmosphere with some country music playing matches well with the great home cooking! Without a car it's hard to get around but Cotton Patch is the best place to walk to for a good chicken fried steak. I had corn on the side which I took home and my other side was the broccoli rice casserole- that's always good! Great rolls to if you ask for them- I'll get honey butter next time. No complaints about the food there from my parents (in previous visits) or myself. Looks like the menu has changed a little and I will likely come in more often to try new stuff. Including the chicken fried bacon! Major props to the wonderful young lady who served me as she was one of the nicest wait staff I've ever had in a restaurant! Kind of wished I'd had more $ to tip. Came here today with my husband and his parents during lunch time. I'm sorry but when you see 3-4 people standing around and looking at you while you wait to get seated is annoying. You guys weren't even busy on of you can greet and seat us. Anywho... we sat down and everything was good until we saw the cook eating food while cooking it as well. Talk about cross contamination . Then we ordered chips and queso. Which the cheese was good. The salsa had way too much garlic and they gave us these half-ass chips and not many at all. So thankfully the waitress gave us some more. Yelp Review - Cotton Patch Café: The service was horrible. We watched 4 waiting parties walk out because no one was at the hostess table or even acknowledge their presence. That was a total of 15 people that walked out, they were large parties except for a lady that was by herself. We waited about 10 minutes (while staff walked by) to acknowledge the people in front of us or acknowledge us. I almost walked out as well but I really wanted to try Cotton Patch Café a second time and we drove a good while to get to this location, so I stayed (mistake). Most tables and booths were dirty, plates and cups/mugs on them and no one was picking them up. There were two of us and the hostess said they only had a table open because all others were dirty. We were fine with a table, however, we were seated in a table for 6 and there were only two of us. We were there for a total of about an hour and a half and most tables were still dirty when we arrived and when we left. There were about 12 staff members and we could not figure out who the manager was, or if there was one at all, it looked like there was not. Ambiance was not what I expected, this is my second time going to a Cotton Patch Café restaurant (first time was another location). Very disappointing, I wanted to get out if there as soon as possible. The waitress that came to us asked what we wanted to drink and since they took so long with everything else, we told her we were ready to order. I ordered fried pickles and asked if we could get them before the food, she told me to wait a second while she entered the info on her iPad. Then my mom ordered and she had to repeat her order a couple of times, the waitress would say "wait", then she said she had submit the order with her iPad and "I have to let several people know" I have no clue what that meant and honestly I did not care, it was annoying and obviously not working. When she finished taking the first order she said "is that it?" I said "no, I need to order as well" ((( obvious thought - there were two of us, you would think both people are going to order right? Maybe not so obvious?)))She took my order and asked my mom again what the second side she wanted was. That was the third time. She took my order, then asked us again what our drinks were. We repeated the drink order to her. She said she would bring bread shortly, but that did not happen. We called a nearby waitress several times and she would not look our way. A lady in line to pick up an order, close to the back wall looked over at us, smiled, and shook her head. As if acknowledging she could not believe she heard us but the waitress closer to us did not. Eventually that waitress came over and we asked for bread so she brought it to us. Finally food came, the chicken fried chicken was very small, tasted good but very small. At $15 I could have had a nice steak for a few more dollars somewhere else. My Pepsi tasted like Diet Pepsi, I asked the waitress if it was regular Pepsi and she said yes and continued her business. Did not even worry if there was a problem or how she could make it better. We both finished our drinks and never got a second drink, also the waitress never came back during our meal to see if we needed anything else. I tipped her out of habit, and honestly I should have not tipped at all now that I think about it. We asked for boxes to go and a piece of carrot cake to go. She brought the boxes and the bill. I saw an amount and she asked if I wanted her to take my card - in my head I'm thinking "yeah, could I look at the bill first?". I did not say anything like that but gave her my card. My mom reminder her not to forget the cake. She came back with the bill to sign but the amount was more. She did not have the itemized bill any longer. I asked her why the bill was more than the one she showed me first. I asked if she forgot the cake. She did not give me an answer, so I asked her for an itemized bill. She came to give me the bill a few minutes later and in a very annoyed tone she said "here's your itemized bill". I said "thank you, have a great day" and she did not respond. We got up to leave and she was at the hostess desk talking with another waitress and as we walked out the front door we said "thank you" twice and neither one even acknowledge us leaving or even answered us. They just talked through the whole thing. That was the longest I saw a hostess (much less two) at the front desk in the hour and a half we were there. In looking at the wait staff I was worried by their expressions that this was not going to be a good experience. One smiling face greeted us and we got her as our waitress. Had a great server who knew how to anticipate what a customer needs. I didn't have to ask for anything because she already had it taken care of. I ordered chicken fried steak because it's one of the only things I won't cook at home. You gotta love chicken fried steak. I remember taking a business associate from New York City out to lunch in Dallas. I told him that he needed to try the chicken fried steak. He was so confused, he asked, "Well, what is it?
