I submitted a project request for clanging pipes through Yelp and a rep from the drain guys was the first to respond within 2 minutes. They were able to come out first thing the following morning to take a look at the situation, turned the water valves all the way on, and sent me a detailed quote while they were still there (unfortunately they initially sent it to a wrong number so someone has my personal data :/ ). Pricing was on the higher end of what I expected, and I was planning to get estimates from other companies that responded on Yelp to compare, so I let them know I would be in contact. Later that evening, I went back downstairs and noticed a leak coming from the main water valve, which was not leaking prior to the drain guys' visit. I immediately sent a message with a video via yelp, and the rep responded saying they would contact the plumber and get back to me. It's been almost 2 weeks and I still haven't heard back, which is interesting as they were so quick to respond when I was potentially giving them business, but ghosted me when I held them accountable for causing a leak. Thankfully, a plumber from another company that responded to my yelp project came by and was able to tighten the valve to stop the leaking. Turns out the drain guys plumber had loosened the entire pipe/valve when he turned the knob all the way on, so it was a simple fix but something that they should have looked out for in the moment. Had I waited for the drain guys to come back my basement would have been flooded. I'm utterly disappointed in their lack of accountability and communication, and have no trust in their services if they were able to let me down on such a small matter. read more

The Drain Guys came out at the scheduled appointment time to provide an estimate for draining a dry well in my backyard. I will say upfront that they were punctual and professional during the appointment. Where things went south was once they started explaining the work and the cost. I was told they would need to clear out the dry well and run a camera to "diagnose" whether there were any additional issues with the inlet or connected piping. Their quote started at $4,950. My concern was that the dry well simply needed to be drained/cleared, yet the quote appeared to include work and diagnostic steps before they had even confirmed those services were necessary. I did not understand why I was being charged upfront for things that had not been identified as actual problems yet. In my opinion, additional work or additional charges should only come into play after an issue is found, explained, and agreed to. When I told them the price was far outside my budget and that I would continue looking for another quote, they then asked me to "quote them a price" and said they would work with me. That made the original quote feel even more questionable to me. If the job genuinely started at nearly $5,000, I do not understand why the price suddenly became negotiable once I pushed back. They followed up with me several times by email asking whether I was moving forward. I ultimately responded that I had found another company, A&V Septic Services, that completed the work for $400, which was only about 8% of The Drain Guys starting quote. While they were punctual and professional in person, I personally would not move forward with this company based on the pricing experience. I was disappointed with my experience. I explained from the beginning that I work a traditional 9-5 job and asked if weekend appointments were available or how they accommodate customers who can't be home during business hours. I was initially told that people either work from home or take time off work. When I explained that taking PTO for an estimate wasn't reasonable and asked about weekend availability, I had to follow up multiple times before finally being told they do work weekends--information that should have been provided from the start. When I tried to schedule during their weekday window, I explained I couldn't be available before 4:30 PM because of work, but there was no willingness to accommodate or offer a later arrival within the window. Instead, I was simply told, "Good luck with your project." Customer service should include some flexibility and clear communication, especially for customers with full-time jobs. I called The Drain Guys on Thursday afternoon for a slow-draining bathtub after attempting to clear it myself. When scheduling, I specifically asked whether they could provide at least a ballpark estimate for snaking a bathtub drain. I was told there was no way to provide pricing information until a technician saw the issue in person. At the same time, I was assured their pricing was "the best in the business," that the owner operates with integrity, and that they are not in the business of gouging customers. Based on those representations, I agreed to schedule service. I was told that due to the snowstorm and several frozen pipe emergencies, the earliest available appointment was Saturday. I understood that weather can create legitimate service delays and agreed to wait. However, late Friday evening, the night before the scheduled Saturday appointment, I received a text stating the plumber would not be able to come because they were behind schedule. The next available appointment was Tuesday. That resulted in a five-day wait from my original call for a routine drain issue. When the technician arrived on Tuesday, I was quoted $550 to snake a single bathtub drain. The work took approximately 30 minutes. After receiving the quote, I texted the office referencing the earlier statement about having the best prices in the business. I was then told that they had not said that, only that their prices were competitive. If $550 is the standard rate for this service, that information could have been shared when I specifically asked for even a general idea of cost. Being told that no pricing guidance could be provided, while simultaneously being reassured about superior pricing and integrity, created expectations that did not align with the final quote. The technician did clear the clog. However, he did not remove his shoes or use protective coverings despite snow and mud outside, and water was tracked into the home. Worked with the Drain Guys to get our water heater fixed. Came to fix it, said we needed a new part, ordered the part, waited a week with no hot water, replaced the part, heater broke again in less than a day. Said we needed yet another part and even then couldn't guarantee that it would fix the issue. Since we had already spent over $1k on parts and labor and since they wanted another $900 for the second part, we called another company for a second opinion. New company came out and said the filter was blocked. Cleared the block free of charge and have had zero issues since. Maybe the Drain Guys should have looked at the easiest and least expensive issue first and we wouldn't be out all of that money. read more

He was very thorough in his diagnosis and provided an in depth sewer scope. Other companies didn't have the adequate tools when we had called in the past but Jesse came prepared. He took his time to explain everything to us and answer all our questions. We will definitely be calling them again. We were disappointed in the (expensive!) drain clearing work performed by the technician; there was still an odor of sewage and then when the drain backed up 3 weeks later, they wanted to charge us the full $495 AGAIN, apparently since we didn't accept their quote of $7500 to tear up our floors and replace a pipe which allegedly had a "belly." We thought this was unprofessional and decided to go with a previous vendor (who did a more thorough job and spent more time diagnosing) and whom we trust more. I had trusted the Yelp reviews, but the Drain Guys truly let me down. Drain Guys explained there could be a number of issues that led to our style of malfunction, they offered to come out to do a consultation for free, determine what they think is going on, give us price quotes, and we can either fix it right then & there (they'd book enough time to get it done), or take our time to consider options (& they won't mind coming back when we're ready). Most other competitors quoted consultation fees ranging from $60-120, just to show up, look it over, then tell us next steps (some stated the consultation fee would go towards the overall cost of service & some it was just a required add-on). We opted for Drain Guys, not just because they were a free option, but because of their ease of talking us through the appointment, without making us feel obligated to get out our wallet before we get any information. When Offried arrived, I was at work, and my husband handled the appointment. I felt this was best, as I stressed over our "up to $1000" get it done now cap. My husband texted me "oof"..."that bad?!," I replied. Nope, turns out our toilet wasn't broken. When we bought our house, the old owners had a stopper on the tank, allowing less water to fill, since they never used the guest bathroom, but since we use it frequently the toilet was never getting the quality flush it needed- desperate for deeper waters.
