Visited on a Wednesday evening around 8 pm. Not busy at all so upon arrival we were able to be sat immediately. We opted for seating at the bar. The bartender was super friendly, and efficient and gave great recommendations. Ordered their fries, and sweet potato dish with a half chicken kale salad. The salad was a winner!!!!! It was very tasty, the cornbread croutons blended very well with the salad and even though they did add the dressing already mixed in, it was not overpowering. Overall great experience and had great food. They do have side street parking or a parking garage behind the building which is easily accessible.
Frankie was an amazing server! He gave us descriptions and answered all questions. He was prompt with bringing beverages and brought water with him as we were seated. THAT is a great idea!! The place was not busy on a Sunday afternoon around 3:30pm, which was great for us because we were hungry. I love how they have large booths that face the bar where you can see multiple televisions above the bar. The open-air space is wonderful as well. If we hadn't been outside all day, it would have been our choice; but we needed the cooler area. The collards were not as tender as they should be (for someone who cooks them); another 30min in the pot would have done wonders. I don't feel their chicken is 'fried' the ordinary way, but maybe pressure fried (think of the original bucket place). It's flavorful & juicy, but NOT crispy. We did have one issue, but Frankie promptly got it corrected. The hot honey that accompanies the chicken is perfect, if you like that. It gives off the sweetness without too much heat like some others. The spoon bread was outstanding! Needed nothing but the spoon that came with it. The herb dusted skinny fries..YUMMMM! And dipped in either the garlic aioli or the ranch..I couldn't make up my mind which I liked more! We'd return, if we were in the area & in the mood for chicken.
I went with my sister for some drinks. We were immediately greeted and decided to sit at the bar. The place was casual with lots of lighting and more intimate tables. Fortunately I found some great parking. The staff were knowledgeable and readily available to take our orders.
I sometimes come to Charlotte to meet with my clients and found the Eagle last spring. The food is very good. -Fried chicken. What they are known for. Really good. -Spoon bread. Amazing. I got an extra order to bring back home to Los Angeles for my kids. -Burnt ends- very good. -Shrimp and grits- very good. -collared greens- very good. One area they could work on is table service. Our table was a booth behind the bar where we were told the bartender would be our server- except the bar tender seemed busy and didnt stop by often. Maybe they had a server out sick that night?
I love this place !!! It's my little Sunday afternoon lunch spot . There is plenty of outdoor seating and the service is always amazing! They even have $5 shot specials every day of the week . Sundays are teremana . I had the spicy chicken dip which is a their take on a buffalo chicken dip . The blue cheese and Gouda mix are a perfect combo. I also got the cider of the month which was sycamore brewing transfusion cider . It taste like a cranberry berry cider .
The spot is cute. One of my favorite thing is that it is located in a real big plaza making parking easy. The space is comfy and cozy The staff was very nice and helpful. What did I have: The cornbread was delicious. It was moist and perfect level of sweetness. I would go back for it. 10/10 Chicken wings: wings was good. It was seasoned well. 8/10 My drinks delicious. Overall. I definitely encourage others to visit this spot.
We had a nice experience at The Eagle in Charlotte. The atmosphere was just okay, but what really stood out was the friendly and attentive service--our server was great, and everything arrived incredibly fast. We started with the spicy chicken dip and chips, which had great flavor but was a little too spicy for my taste. The hush puppies were a solid appetizer as well. For my entrée, I had the quarter white meat chicken, which was decent but nothing extraordinary. However, the sweet potato crock was hands-down the highlight of my meal--absolutely delicious! My only real complaint was the music. While I don't mind rock music, it was overly loud, making it hard to enjoy conversation. If they toned it down a bit, the dining experience would be much more enjoyable. Overall, great service and solid food with a couple of standout dishes. I'd definitely return--hopefully to a slightly quieter playlist!

I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this place yet. The Eagle is a staple in my household. Craving good southern food? The Eagle. Hankering for fried chicken? The Eagle delivers. I've tried a variety of dishes from their menu and have always enjoyed them. There's not much to dislike here. Expect flavorful dishes at reasonable prices. Our go-to order is usually the chicken, paired with an assortment of sides. Recently, I tried their mashed potatoes, and they instantly became my favorite side dish. Give it a try! You won't be disappointed.
Fried chicken with hot honey sauce, collard greens with ham hocks, sweet potato casserole and a drinky drink to wash it all down. I have always loved their chicken. Marinated to perfection. Even the breast is as moist as the leg, and coated in a hot honey sauce (optional).....omg. Heavy on the vinegar and onions but it all balances out. Some of the best greens in Charlotte. I have been longing to return here after a fab Yelp party last year. (Plenty of my friends have gone, but not us.) I took my husband here for our anniversary lunch and did not regret a thing. The young lady who waited on us was very pleasant and helpful. We skipped the cocktails, but had delicious draft beers instead. For an appetizer, we had the spicy chicken dip. We could not stop eating it. It paired great with the beers. We both had the fried chicken (he had white, I had dark). My husband swears the collard greens here are the best ever. He was a bit disappointed in the horseradish mashed potatoes, but I enjoyed them. The macaroni & cheese is absolutely divine. Literally could eat that every day and not regret a thing. The fried chicken was the star though. Completely cooked through but incredibly juicy. The skin was crisp and flavorful. My husband tried the hot honey (served on the side) but, like me, preferred the chicken without. We will continue to tell our friends about The Eagle and their awesome food. I really enjoyed my visit. They have a nice space with booths that fit up to 6 comfortably. They have space for more private parties. They also offer outside seating. They have a great beer and whisky list. The cocktail and wine lists were small but includes really good options. I went with the Bourbon Punch and absolutely yes! It was a great size, I could actually taste the bourbon, and it was simply delicious. As for the food, we started with the Hushpupies. They were fresh and hot. We smashed those in a heartbeat. I recommend skipping the Mac n cheese. They weren't bad, just nothing special and came out Luke warm. The drum sticks were really good and the spicy honey drizzle adds the perfect kick. I would absolutely get those again. The collards were pretty tasty, too. Overall, everything was really good and I would visit again.
We stopped here for dinner on our way to the Charlotte airport. I'm glad we chose this place. Frankie waited on our table and was very nice. We ordered the hush puppies, pickled green beans, drumsticks, grilled cheese w/fries, grits and mashed potatoes. Yes, we ordered a lot bc everything sounded so good! We also each had one beer. The food arrived quickly and was hot. Everything we had was excellent. It was a nice stop before heading home and we'd definitely go back. The price was right too.

Mostly chicken selections with salads, an assortment of appetizers and cocktails as well as craft beers. Skillet cornbread (can't remember the name) was exceptional. Collards were great also...ample serving size. Sweet potato dish couldn't use more brown sugar and greater tenderness. Service was fantastic. I found Alona to be attentive, knowledgeable and prompt. Two gripes: fried chicken (1/2 portion) tasted old and as if it sat at the bottom of a pile of chicken for a while. It was also greasy. All dishes tried, with the exception of the cornbread, were lukewarm at best and room temperature at the least. Went here for golden hour. We tried a couple drinks and the SPICY CHICKEN DIP $10 pulled chicken, spicy cheese sauce, smoked gouda & bleu cheese. My drink was too sweet for me but I liked the flavor so if you are into that try the APRICOT MARTINI it has vodka, gin, lillet blanc, apricot agave. The service was ok the bartender took a while with our drinks but we were told it was due to a miscommunication. Not a huge fan of the look of the restaurant it kind of reminds me of a college pub. The Buffalo dip was not creamy maybe due to the blue cheese but the flavor was good so if you're iffy about texture keep that in mind. Let me just tell ya. I've been here 4 separate occasions with 4 different groups of people and the eagle has never failed me and the people I bring love it. Service is always good, waiters are nice making sure everything is up to par 9/10. I think the biggest thing for you to know is that when you order the sides most of these are shareable. There is no need to order a single side just for yourself unless you are big back. The biscuits are nice and flaky, mac and cheese very creamy. I've never had the chicken sandwich but from what the people with me told me 10/10 and the size is immaculate. The only thing I'd say "negative" about the eagle is i wish their chicken had more of a crunch. by all means it is good but iykyk it just needs a little more crunch to it. My go to shareable sides would be the mac and cheese, the spoon bread and the sweet potatoes. My go to calm meal if you are feeling light the grilled cheese (8/10) with the kale salad (10/10) The people i've taken said the greens are good (black people stamped) the shrimp and grits are good but a little spicy. One of my favorite spots in South End. You can't go wrong with the good and drinks here! My favorite drinks are the blackberry lemonade and the bourbon punch. Both have alcohol but not too much. They still provide a great refreshing drink without the bite. The food is always incredible. If you have a group of 6 or more it's wise to do the family meal to save money in A LOT of food. On $21 bucks a person for 2 whole chickens, 2 kale salads, 2 mac&cheeses, 2 mashed potatoes and gravy, and 2 spoonbreads. The spoonbread (kind of like a cornbread in a skillet) is my FAVORITE side here. Please stop by and treat yourself to an amazing culinary experience. read more

Food was delicious. Truly, so delicious. In fact, the hush puppies were perhaps my favorite. They had a little zip to them, crunch on the outside and soft and hot in the center. You have to order sides separately from entrees, so don't forget the fries! I don't think you can go wrong as far as food goes, it was all delectable. The space is nice too. Big bar with ample indoor seating, a cute patio, and a nice open area with a garage-like door, so you can have the comfort of indoors and catch the breeze! Overall great spot. This place is great! Delicious food, great service from the very attentive staff, and food that arrived hot and fresh. The atmosphere of this place is amazing. My friend and I went during the day, but I imagine how much nicer it would be in the evenings. I enjoyed my first visit to The Eagle. I dined alone so I chose a spot at the bar and got comfy. I thought it was a busy day as the bar was 95% fully, but the bartender said that wasn't busy and I take her word for it. I recommend the fried chicken sandwich with slaw. I didn't get the hot honey I wanted on the side, but I can't complain. The chicken was delicious, the fries matched and the Bourbon Punch will sneak up on you. Best fried chicken in Charlotte? I won't pick up that gauntlet, but I will say that it was spicy and flavorful and cooked properly. Really, really five stars good! I only put a couple of drops of the spicy honey on it (honey is not keto friendly), it was pretty darned amazing. Chicken (1/4, 1/2, whole) is a la carte, so sides are extra. I had the cole slaw which was good. Flossed cabbage that was a bit wet but still tasty and crisp. I sat at the bar and had great service. Fountain drinks were refreshed without needing to ask. Dirty dishes were cleared and the check was dealt with. Top notch. Oh, and all the staff I saw were wearing their masks the entire time. Came here because of the reviews. First off the collard greens were very good, biscuits were good and the jam was tasty. The thigh was very good but my legs were only on the warm side. I would have preferred them to be a little hotter temp wise. Hot honey was on point though. Definitely an adder that I wasn't expecting. Service was top notch. Chicken dinner that's just shy of a winner winner. The service: I was a little nervous this was going to be a place in Southend that makes you wait even though there is clearly available seating, you know the kind of places I'm talking about. Yet, I should not have judged. Walked in and after a couple of minutes was approached by a very friendly host that was able to immediately accommodate us and dog outside. The host did offer water for our dog yet never brought it out when I said it would be nice. Our server was knowledgeable and willingly shared her favorite menu item as a recommendation (sweet potato crock). Could have used a refill on waters, yet not a bad service experience at all! The space: Cool design that reminds me of Bakersfield on East Boulevard with a heavy focus on the bar area. I will say the Host stand does feel a little hidden (look to your left as you enter). I personally appreciate that the entire space seemed clean, even the outdoor seating area. Opportunity, prune the planters where the outside tables are. The meal: The chicken here is definitely the star of the show and they know they have a good thing going with it. The flavor and texture on the skin of the chicken is a nice alternative to traditional southern fried chicken with a focus on spices on the skin. I will definitely return so I can try the fried chicken sandwich. The kale salad was the best surprise of my meal. Typically I am not a fan of raisins. I ate every single morsel of this salad. Note: my recommendation based on this meal is whether you order friend chicken or the fried chicken sandwich, pair it with the Kale salad! The reason for three stars, the sides: The sweet potatoes are sweet. So, flavor wise, I get it. I will say the interesting part was the texture. The sweet potatoes had a stringy almost hairy like texture that at times made you think it was hair that you were eating. The "horseradish mashed" potatoes are in quotes because there was zero horseradish flavor and while you can tell it's a good house made potato dish, they are not mashed. Is this an Ohio interpretation of Southern mashed potatoes (not mashing them)? Overall, if you want good chicken and salad in Southend this is a great option! I will definitely return. I would also like to give the horseradish mashed potatoes another try, if they mash them and add horseradish! read more

The Best of the Best of the Best Anytime anyone visits Charlotte, THIS is the place I will recommend for them to try. I brought my now BIL here this past April, and every single man in his wedding party fell in love with every single aspect of this wonderful restaurant. Let's start with the beer. The selection is inspired. Not a bad beer was had at the restaurant. Our waitress knew how to recommend drinks and had hilarious commentary after asking what we thought. The tv's are placed around the bar in a way that every seat in the house can see them. We were able to watch the Women's Basketball National Championship on their large-screen tv's perfectly. A PERFECT place to watch ANY GAME. The food is some of the most consistently perfect food I've had. Hushpuppies? Best I have had anywhere. Fried chicken sandwich? Best fried chick sandwich I have had anywhere. Buffalo dip? Best buffalo dip I have had anywhere. I could pick through this menu with a fine-tooth comb before I find something that wasn't in contention for the best of its kind. I have NEVER said that about anywhere before or since coming to Eagle Food and Beer Hall. Why are you still contemplating where to go. GO HERE. NOW! Fried chicken - a classic southern staple So it should come as no surprise that during our food day in Charlotte, after Optimist Hall, we had to visit the best fried chicken joint that Charlotte has to offer, The Eagle Food and Beer Hall. The best part is that the entire menu is a la carte which was perfect since we just visited several spots at our previous location and wanted something snack sized. Of course we opted for the 1/4 chicken with white meat (wing and breast) marinated in their secret brine and comes with a homemade hot honey on the side. Fried chicken seems easy to cook but trust us, from the batter to the cook on the chicken - it can be easy to mess up. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and juicy and the hot honey turned it up several notches literally and figuratively We also opted to try the blackened shrimp poboy (another southern, creole staple) that was accompanied with avocado relish and a smoked onion remoulade. Everything perfectly balanced and scrumptious We washed it all down with a gigantic pitcher of blackberry lemonade with none other than Tito's vodka and elderflower liqueur! Really good southern comfort food in South End. I loved the cozy decor inside. The service was great! Our server came and checked on us often and was super helpful! For my drink, I tried the champagne punch. It was a nice and light drink. It came with a mini champagne bottle that you can keep refilling into the drink. For dinner, my cousin and I split the 1/2 fried chicken and 2 sides. The sides are really big! The fried chicken was so juicy and flavorful. I loved the hot honey on the side! The sweet potato crock was sooo good! It had the right amount of spices and really tasted like a good thanksgiving side! The Mac and cheese was amazing as well. It was super creamy and cheesy. The waitress came right away and the menu had so many great options. I couldn't decide so we ordered a bunch of stuff. Too much actually but I just had to try a little bit of everything. Food was served pretty quickly and everything was hot! Loved the grilled cheese and spoon bread. Chicken was also delicious, very juicy. *They don't have any desserts on the menu so I ordered the sweet potatoes last. Didn't love them. Good but they weren't hot enough for the marshmallows to melt. By this time I was already full so I didn't bother mentioning it. Overall really enjoyed my dinner here. I hadn't heard a lot about this place since it opened, but what's not to love about fried chicken? The had a deal in the South End Passport, so we stopped by. We had no trouble getting a table outside when they opened on a weekday. We got 1/4 chicken dark meat, grilled cheese, hush puppies, mac & cheese, and spoonbread. I was impressed with our meal! The chicken was very juicy and I loved the hot honey it was served with. The grilled cheese was very unique with the apricot preserves and apples. It was so cheesey and delicious. The mac and cheese was very cheesy and quite good. I loved the corn/jalepeño/cheese in the hush puppies. The only thing I was disappointed by was the spoonbread. Needed a bite before a concert, so choose this spot. Parking is thick since it's many businesses but we managed to find a great spot. Got a nice spot since it was not crowded and we were greeted. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich, hushpuppies, and fries. Firstly, everything was fresh! You absolutely get a lot of food. I didn't finish my food and it's rare that I don't. The fried chicken was pretty good with crunch from the pickles and slaw. The dipping sauces are good too. I didn't get a beer like I should have but I did get the blackberry lemonade. Stopped by on a Wednesday around 5 pm with a party of 6. It was all of our first times, so we asked a lot of questions. Half us were there to drink and half of us ate. Local beer was $8, Ugh that's just so hard for me. I don't mind paying for a cocktail, but $8 for a beer just really makes me cringe. So I got the chicken sandwich to go. It was $10 and a side does not come with it. It is a very large sandwich and the chicken does fit the bun. I repeat the chicken fits the bun! I loved the pickles and slaw on it. So...I've been here twice. I was overdue for my first review, but glad I waited. The first time I would've said 4 stars, which is a great rating too! But after tonight I am salvating thinking of my meal and 5 stars all the way. We sat at the bar, which we really liked by the way. You have access to the full menu. My husband and I ordered a few items: a chicken blt sandwich, mac n cheese, spoonbread, and fries. I am obsessed with the chicken sandwich; it was juice, flavorful, of generous size, and had an excellent crunch. The man n cheese is incredibly creamy - my favorite. The spoonbread was so good. The fries were good, the sauce that came with it was great. I went through the whole portion. Let's not forget the drinks. Ordered some IPAs. My husband stuck with a can and I got the draft. It's a beer I've had a few times and was very happy. Sometimes the draft at places isn't great, these are good. Nothing but great words. And consistently service is phenomenal. This place is interesting. My date suggested it and I made reservations. Lots of tvs and a huge bar. I'd definitely say try avoid the seating near bathroom or you might get bumped over the night. I'm sorry for those that I accidentally did. Service wise the host was basically staring at TV and not replying or moving. However the server himself was one of the best. He listened and gave us very good recommendations. Food wise I think they fried chicken was great and the BBQ sandwich was decent. But both of us loved that cornbread it was like crack. This place is a solid 4 stars and I'd definitely come back again. read more
