So pleasantly surprised by this spot! Visited with my family and we were first greeted by a very friendly host. We ordered a combination of chicken, sandwiches, and sides and we all enjoyed everything! My husband is still raving about the shrimp and grits. My sandwich took awhile to come out after the rest of the table and the manager delivered it and took it off of our bill for the delay. I really appreciated this extra effort. OMG the chicken! It was delicious! Honestly, we weren't expecting too much when we first looked at the menu but was pleasantly surprised. We ordered the whole chicken thinking we would eat a few pieces then take the rest home, but we couldn't stop eating. It was me, my husband, and our 14 year old. The hush puppies were also very good. If you're into light, fruity salads get the summer salad. The combination of the pickled blueberries and peach vinaigrette was refreshing and a good balance to the fried chicken. The only dish we weren't a high fan of was the horseradish mashed potatoes. We wanted more horseradish flavor. Now for the service... it was great from the moment we stepped in till we left. Ugh. Very "franchise" in quality. Poor excuse for fried chicken. They need to learn the tried and true southern way of brining. And at least use buttermilk. This place was great. We went and they did not have an open table for about 30 minutes but the bar was first come first serve and full service! The vibe inside was very nice for dinner and was not too loud to have a casual conversation. They had a very wide variety of drinks, so you could find anything you are looking for. The food was great. The menu is pretty small but everything that is on it is a solid option. My one comment about some of the sandwiches is they can sometimes be hard to eat, but well worth it! They have a lot of sides, I would recommend the mac and cheese and the fries, so you can definitely put together your own meal if you don't like the sandwich/salad options. Craving more than just a chicken sandwich and wanting some feel good food, I ordered from Uber Eats to see what all the hype is about. The chicken sandwich was tasty, decently sized (slightly bigger than the bun), and was NOT greasy. The pickles and slaw were a great addition to make this sandwich unique. Only downside is that it does not come with a side. I also ordered the sweet potato crock and the hush puppies. The sweet potato crock was bland in my opinion and the cooked marshmallow on top do really taste like s'mores marshmallows. The hush puppies are where it's at though! They are a little spicy with some jalapeños baked in and the sauce adds to the heat flavor. The food was really great. I got the Fried Chicken BLT and it was huge and delicious. Its a bit spicy so if you can't handle spice, I don't suggest it but its not like fire hot. The mac and cheese was really good and cheesy, but the cheese sauce could have used a bit more flavor of pepper or something to give it a tad more umf but I'd definitely still get it again as is. The kale salad was very good and large, and the shrimp was well prepared. We also got the hush puppies which we really great and came with a delicious sauce. The drinks were tasty, but it really didn't seem like there was any alcohol in them. I got the Eagle Iced Tea, which basically was a mix of everything (like a Long Island iced tea) and I drank 2 and felt literally nothing. My friend got the Blackberry Lemonade which was the same situation. Both tasted good though. However, the waiter was really slow, perhaps we just got unlucky but the service itself was very slow paced and he wasn't all that attentive, but the restaurant wasn't busy so I can't even give him the benefit of the doubt. My son and I were looking for a quick bite Sunday. It was very busy in the area but the Eagle was just busy enough for us to get a table promptly. We sat in the bar area and were greeted and taken care of by the bartender Allison. I order an old fashioned and my son's food first. Once she came back with my drink, I asked for suggestions and she was able to break down the choices very well! She even explained to me how the chicken was brined and prepared! I ordered based on her suggestions and was very pleased :) . The chicken skin was crispy and flavorful. The Mac & cheese was very cheesy and the noodles al dente. The spoonbread was delicious! The raisins are golden so they totally get a pass, but the salad in its entirety is simply divine! Let's talk about the chicken. I'm born and raised in the south. I'm pretty sure fried chicken was my first food. This chicken is DELICIOUS. PERFECTLY seasoned. Piping hot. They include a little container of honey for drizzling. The Eagle is a warm and cozy spot. It is long and narrow and feels rather intimate. The big bar in the center is the focal point and rightfully so. The seasonal cocktails were excellent. A bourbon punch will always wet my whistle! The food was so tasty and decadent, while the menu is tiny we left with nothing but leftovers. The portions are large and we ordered a lot! The Eagle gets a 5 based on their level of customer service alone. I was greeted at the door by Andrew/Alexander (sorry-he and his beautiful beard made a great impression, but, there was a lot happening at the moment so I can't recall which name, but it's definitely one of them) and Victor (my cousin's husband's name, so...and Victor Newman ‍). They were welcoming, complimentary, and as excited for my first visit as I was! We were seated right away- noon on a rainy Saturday was a great time, but it started filling up around 1230p. Sam, our server, was also very professional and engaging, gave great suggestions, and was knowledgeable about everything from the food to the drinks. Everything is a La carte with sides being served in small cast iron or small ramekins. The fried chicken was said to be a must try, so we obliged. I'm always going to rank homemade fried chicken as the best, so, this chicken was good. There is a slight sweetness to the batter-without using the hot honey-it was moist, well cooked. If you want crunchy fried chicken, this is not it...It's a softer breading. Hush puppies.... Say less and just get them! I could eat these at least twice a week. They're beautifully fried, savory, a little spicy and the sauce is delicious. They were my favorite. Collard-I'm not a fan of putting vinegar in greens when I cook them. I let the person eating them decide. These are a bit vinegary. I'd get them again. Sweet potatoes-I dug under the marshmallow to get to the potatoes. They're average, but served their purpose. Mac n cheese-the purpose of the sweet potatoes. I only eat Mac n cheese with sweet potatoes or corn pudding‍. The flavor was really good. The star of the meal was the side of shrimp and grits. Plenty of shrimp and the flavor was delicious. I'd use a more flavorful hot sauce though... the one on top was a bit bland. For $10 this side is a good deal IMO. If you come here, definitely get this. We were surprised there wasn't much to offer for food. They had fried chicken but no burgers etc. Wasn't what we expected. Visited The Eagle this past weekend for date night. We got there around 6:30 on Saturday evening and was seated immediately. My beau and I both opted for the 1/4 white. Our sides were the collards & Mac-n-cheese. The chicken was juicy & moist, I just wish the skin was crispier. The mac was the creamy kind. I prefer baked Mac but it wasn't bad. The Chicken was cooked to perfection with not to much breading and just the right amount of seasoning. The honey maple hot sauce was extremely tasty with the right amount of heat to my liking. THE SPOON-BREAD (cornbread) was THE BEST I EVER HAD! The maple butter they drench it in was mouth watering and the cornbread was so moist more like cake with sweet corn kernels! I'm not a big fan of grits but these had a piece of my heart. White Cheddar with crunchy peppers with a little kick! I very much enjoyed them! Now I wasn't a big fan of Mac n Cheese or The Pimento Cheese but just because I'm not a big fan of Smoked Cheeses as both of these were very Smokey tasting. For southern comfort food, this menu has all the flavors! We sat at the bar, because there was a 20-30 min wait (for a table for 2) at 2pm on Saturday. I had the southern chopped salad (half for $7) and the side of cheddar grits ($5). The salad was very flavorful, but the greens didn't taste the freshest. The grits were cooked perfectly, but too spicy for me. My fiancé had the fried chicken BLT- he liked the flavors and generous portion size. Hello people that are reading my review(s), LOL, I will let you know EXACTLY how this location plays out. The Eagle Food & Beer Hall (EG) is a chain and I really don't condone in linked restaurants across states/cities; not my "cup of tea" or "coffee" if you're into that lingo. Anyway, It's located in THE HEART of South End right on South Blvd across from Chipotle, beside CAVA, and conveniently below Atherton Mill apartment complex. The Eagle Food & Beer Hall has six (6) locations across the nation so it's a pretty standardized business practice. They have a ton of bar seating with their U-shaped bar, table/booth seating, and outside seating as well. I have tried some of the food at The Eagle which includes their fried chicken, collard greens, and mac & cheese; but, when only sampled it from a friends and was just mildly impressed. The fried chicken, dark meat, had a moderately crispy exterior with a 'not dry' inside, mediocre; the mac & cheese was not impressive, second-rate, compared to what I have grown up with plus how I can whip up some bangin' a$$ mac & cheese; the collard green could have been cooked a bit longer with a heaping magnitude of more seasoning; pretty bland but loved the acidity level. The food just needs some more "OOMPH" to it. If they are going to call it 'Southern comfort' food, then they need massively more flavor. The service was middling and quite good when I went the first time but it was exceptional when I went back (thanks to my friend who is (one of) the managers. All in all, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants fairly decent (Southern, I guess) food, but the service is good so that's why I bumped it up from three (3) stars to four (4) stars. The best service with a smile. I've been three times and every time, the food is perfect. The fried chicken, "THE CHICKEN", is fantastic. If you like crispy crunchy and juicy chicken on the inside, you've got to try this chicken. I usually come by myself and I sit at the bar, they have TVs on each side so you can watch the game or the news, but most of the game. The service at the bar is fantastic as well, they always are friendly and have a good story to tell. If you like fried chicken, this is the place. Their chicken is brined so you know it will be moist. The breading is deliciously flavorful with little bits of crispiness. For sides, we ordered pickled pepper grits which had little bits of pickle flavor embedded in the grits- very interesting. We also ordered the maple sugar bacon.
