Super cool place! So many different seating options. Also, pretty sure this place is haunted. It's got a old school, industrial speakeasy vibe, make sure to abide by dress code! They let women come in wearing anything (including showing belly button, or wearing sweaty workout attire - not the cute kind), but men are required to wear dress shoes and a button down. We went there for a friend's performance, and my male friend was almost not let into the place for his dress, which was just generic casual. Girl at the door told me we could sit wherever, but during the show they told us we weren't allowed to 'sit' unless we paid $25 per person....so we just stood in front of those seats. We love this place! Knowing that we enjoy the Roaring Twenties, this place was sure to be a hit from the moment we heard about it's set-up. We came here with a group of friends early to get in quicker and to get a thorough feel of the place. The music was on point and walking on the dance floor immediately brought us into an era filled with simpler times and feel-good vibes. I was impressed with the sophisticated decor of this nightclub. My friend tells me that this place used to be an old power plant in DTLA. It pays homage to the power plant as it has many power plant components all around the club. I am actually surprised that they would allow a nightclub inhabit a space with historic artifacts in the open, but it made it a very interesting night to remember. Don't get too drunk at this place as you will need to ascend and descend many steps to get in and out of this basement club. Besides the awesome decor, I truly enjoyed the acrobatic performances at this venue. The ceilings are definitely large enough to allow such an artistic feat. However, the only thing I was not so impressed about this place was the drink that I received. I wanted a shot of absinthe and received a sugar water diluted concoction. It was a great show from the bartender, but it doesn't make it a great drink by any means. Also, let's just say you are paying a premium for the ambiance so you may want to pre-drink before coming to this club so you are not completely broke by the end of the night. The DJ was okay as he was playing some old school and hip-hop music. It got boring after excessively playing oldies music. We paid for parking next door at a parking structure for $7. Beautiful venue. No cover on Friday night. Twenties themed. Some people come dressed in the theme. Wide age range of folks that come here. There are different silent movies playing on every wall. The lounge is decorated very intricately pursuant to the theme. The specialty cocktails are pricey at $14 each. There's an absinthe fairy walking around dressed in wings pushing a cart with a wooden box with little vials of liquor. So pretty! Very unique. The aerial dancers are worth coming here for. This is my favorite hangout place by far. Love the neo-Victorian style decor and all their drinks on the menu. Scharffen Berger Napoleon (their version of chocolate martini), Spot Weld, and Edison are few of my favorite drinks from their menu. They also have killer appetizers like Tesla Fries (sweet potato fries with their own dipping sauces) and lobster corndogs. The decor is almost hypnotizing to newcomers. I saw Abney Park perform here on Sunday night and the lead singer kept mentioning how he couldn't focus on his singing due to the awesome decor. My only complaint is they are only open Wed-Sat. Wish they were open throughout the week so I can hangout here more. If you are coming here on Friday or Saturday night, better arrive before 8 p.m. to beat the crowd (if you don't want to deal with a huge crowd). If you want a table, there is a food and drink minimum after 7pm ($50/person on Friday and Saturday nights), but you can order food from the bar to avoid the table minimum. We tried the truffled mac and cheese and the warm chocolate chip cookies. Both were absolutely delicious! Also, my friend and I tried a total of 4 different cocktails. They were all amazing and tasted very fresh! There have different events and shows at the Edison. The Friday night I went they had aerial shows throughout the night. Very cool vibe, underground, with some incredible architecture and the layout is a complete home run. I would kill to be there just to walk around before they open or before it gets crowded. Out of all the lounge bars in LA I think I disliked the Edison the most. Street parking if you are lucky or valet for $12 It is super annoying they keep you in line outside on the street even though the place is empty inside. They do it to make it look packed when it really isn't. They slowly let people in at a time. Cover is $10 unless you come early. Drinks are super expensive and not that good. Self seating is spread throughout. Dress code is enforced so make sure you come nicely dressed. The only good thing about this location is the 20s throwback decor. I go here monthly for the latin jazz Wednesday. (Free) The place is very nice and classy. Definitely more upscale than our regular salsa places, so be prepared to dress up! (There is a dress code). There is a live band playing called "la verdad" on latin jazz night and they are good. It gets pretty packed in there to the point you can't really dance at around 10:30pm. Food and drinks are unremarkable but the ambiance is really great. Because it is a Wednesday, the band starts playing at about 8:30 and they end around 10:30. The dj will play in between and at the end of the night. They close pretty early at around midnight on these nights. Whenever I get to break out my fun fringe-covered flapper dress (which gets stuck on EVERYTHING and EVERYBODY), I know I'm in for a fun evening down at The Edison. Usually annoyed by seeing the name 'Edison' as it shares the name of my monthly electric bills, I have to say that the venue obviously takes the cake, seeing that both are still talking my money yet I don't seem to mind as much handing it over to the club. I would show up for Big Willie's Burlesque on Thursday (although I swear it was on a Tuesday or Wednesday; shows how old I am) and watch a performer who used to teach my dance class. It was cool seeing her in the act, as we who stumbled clumsily throughout her class were able to see how it is truly done. Of course when we hugged after her number, my dress would get stuck on some sort of spangled accessory that adorned her. Seems as though there is a strict dress code but I've always gone with the girls in our party dresses so it's never been a problem. And every gentlemen we spoke to was also dressed accordingly. Perhaps I'm talking to the wrong people? Although the stairs are somewhat treacherous for a high pair of heels, it's worth it once you reach the bottom. The decor is really neat, too. I have be honest though, hands down the worst service I've ever experienced in an establishment for the image they are trying to portray. It's all a visaed. How they're even cutting in it the hospitality industry beats me. They are for sure in no comparison to their sister company Clifton's. It seems as if they wrangled up all the people who couldn't cut it at their better run establishments and dumped them deep down in The Edison. Management is an obvious joke. They don't even have to be busy for their bartenders to seem annoyed. From their attitudes to their inconsistent pours, service is simply disrespectful. For $15+ a cocktail & $11 french fries I at least expect my bartender/ servers to look me in the eyes while taking my order with a smile on their face. NOPE! Not at "The Edison." If they're not understaffed they've fooled me. One night at dinner one of my friends tried to ask our server if he could order another of the same drink he had just ordered from her and without hesitation she responded with a firm, "NOPE! You can get a drink at the bar!" She easily could have expressed to us that she was slammed and we would have happily redirected our orders. If you don't catch the attention by calling out to your bartender, you could end up standing there waiting for 20 minutes. Since they don't know how to bartend and greet their customers properly they have no clue who's walking up first to serve in any order. Unfortunately, hearing people complain all over the venue my last night there, left my friends and I embarrassed for their staff. We couldn't even feel upset with them. Too bad we have no desire to return. It is a great place to enjoy good music on a Friday and Saturday night. I only rated this place 3 stars, solely due to the fact that I gave this place 3 chances. 3 different nights to change my mind, because they have an amazing atmosphere from 9pm-12am with an awesome singer/ pianist and a killer saxophonist (they're worth having dinner with if they don't decide to cancel your dinner reservation hours before you're due to arrive.) Their nightclub side is also a great transition or separate option after Midnight. I recommend going to this venue from 8/9pm- 12am with no reservation. Order some food if you can manage to get service, listen to good live music (they have two stages) Then leave to go spend your money somewhere better worth your while. Tried to celebrate my birthday here. We booked over a week in advance, and confirmed our reservation the night before. They even charged my card the morning of our reservation. When we arrive from over an hour away by uber we were told that they had cancelled our reservation, and that they had tried calling, but I didn't leave a good number. I checked the correspondence and found my correct phone number in the same message as my credit card info. So the young girl at the front was either not truthful, or not communicating with the booking company. The front receptionist was pretty apathetic about the whole situation and seemed to be bothered by the fact that she had to answer our questions as to why we were canceled without notice. I never received a response from onsite staff, or the group they make you book through, as to how and why this happened. We spent our night at Perch, and had dinner at 71 Above. I've been meaning to come here for years. I used to visit a friend in downtown LA and she always suggested this place, but I passed because the line was always out the door and I was too lazy to wait in line. I've been a couple times on week nights in the last couple of years, and this is a really cool venue. The decor and ambiance is very unique (it's called Edison because it used to be a power plant, I believe?) and I appreciate the bizarre black and white silent films they play on gigantic screens. The place is stunning hands down. Couches/Dining area was just beautiful something like I've never seen. Food could be better. Party of 7, we came for dinner and drinks for my cousins birthday. I wish there was a better chef or better quality. My mac n cheese $14 had two long hairs in it. The love sliders ordered medium came out well done and chewy, lots of fat, definitely not Kobe beef. I loved the Gouda in there but it seriously could have been better for $16 mini sliders and you get 2 not 3. I did appreciate that the Edison doesn't charge a cover for Military personal with a government issued ID, I think the cover should be waived. Drinks cost $15 and beers $8. That is pretty high for the location but I guess they throw in a free show. The burlesque show didn't reach or even surpass my expectations. Music was great. The girls were happy but the routine wasn't anything fun. I was expecting swinging/ ropes/ and longer dances. I guess my expectations were a bit higher than what the Edison delivered. Would I come back, maybe for a drink or 3, the mistress and the lavender drink with st Germaine was really good! Foamy but good. All in all a beautiful venue. I wouldn't come back for dinner. It's been years since I've been back and I forgot how much I loved it until now! Back then, I loved it because I was younger and rowdy; I loved the drunk shenanigans and "clublike" vibes and getting lost at every corner. Now, I love it because it is a gorgeous, classic lounge. I got there before the Friday night rush and there were only a couple of parties there-- which meant my friend and I were able to get bomb couch seats and have a meaningful conversation while enjoying the delicious libations. But let me pause and talk about the libations. Damn, they are good. And each bartender, all looking gorgeous, spends personalized time making each drink perfect and when drinks average $15, you appreciate that. I appreciated that. Bathrooms are nice and clean and it's pretty spacious (but it'll feel tiny when you come after the crowds storm in). My tip? I really love the concept of this speakeasy, and I had a great and memorable time with my boyfriend, for my birthday. The decor was unique and funky, with a touch of vintage and steampunk. The food was pretty good (the mac n cheese was TO DIE FOR, the grilled cheese and tomato soup were delish, and the nutella and peanut butter sandwiches were good, especially the cajeta sauce), albeit VERY pricey for a nutella and banana sandwich. The drinks weren't THAT great, in all honesty. The paper (??) moon (cucumber one) was straight up cucumber juice, but the non-alcoholic ones were flavorful and succulent. Go figure. We didn't have any problems with our attire, since we actually read the rules, but the tables were ITTY BITTY for food and drinks. I mean they must have belonged to the itty bitty table committee, so they brought us an extra itty bitty table. You better be social, because you will be sitting elbow-to-elbow with other couples. They don't honor the fact that it's your birthday, other than by saying "oohhh we don't do that but congratulations!" They had an air acrobatic pin up-like girl, who was great, and a singer after that. For a speakeasy, it sure was loud, and full of club-clothes wearing girls. I don't recall 1930's being characterized by off the shoulder shirts-turned-dresses, but alrighty. It's decorated as a speakeasy but it's just a regular club. I expected to see more pin up & zoot kind of people, but it's just a club with lots of regulations. However, I enjoyed my time. I have mixed feelings about The Edison. I absolutely love the vibe of this joint. This is one of the few "speakeasy" type places that have been popular before they exploded in Los Angeles. I hate to sound like a hipster, but it was awesome when less people knew about it. It loses its charm when EVERYONE knows about it and tries to get in. Since the space is designed the way it is, it's very easy for the place to get hot quickly. Jump to this past New Year's Eve. The original plan was to celebrate at Clifton's. Unfortunately there were delays in construction, we were diverted to The Edison. Knowing that this place was going to be a hot zoo, I still wanted to enjoy the evening anyway. When we arrive, all of the tables had "reserved" signs. That's to be expected, it's an easy way to get more money for prime real estate. The only "free" seating was next to the restrooms, where everyone was crowding around. To compensate for the change in venue, there was a complimentary cookie shot. Pretty good - not mad at that. The entrainment was awesome - the bands, the aerialists, the burlesque. As the night drawed closer to midnight, the place filled in, making it super hot. Not sure if there is weak ventilation or just zero ventilation. As soon as it struck midnight, we cut out quickly. It was just too damn hot and with very little seating, my feet were killing me too make matters little less celebratory. I personally long for the days of Old Hollywood, so crossing the threshold really feels like going back in time. I want to continue to like this place, but the lack of ventilation makes it less than desirable to return. read more

I just had my 25th birthday party at the Edison and had a great time! I reserved a table for 10 people and ordered dinner to share. The food was "meh" which is why I would give it a 4 star instead of a perfect rating. We shared the Edison Platter and the smaller portion of the Boiler Room Platter and fed us all. But it wasn't anything special; just a few wings, flat breads, eggs etc. The drinks, vibe, and ambiance are great, which is why I enjoy coming here. I really enjoy having the Brown Derby (Bourbon, honey and grapefruit) but also like The Edison (Bourbon, Cognac, and honey). Drinks aren't cheap ($15 or so) but worth it. It's hard getting a place to sit if you don't have a reservation but the place is large enough to find a place to socialize with others. The crowd at the Edison is a great plus; everytime I come here I meet interesting people to talk to (and sometimes leave with phone numbers *wink*). On some nights they have live music playing, but I'm not sure when those nights are... It's also fun watching the black and white old movies projected on the walls. The other downer was that our table was dripping with water from the ceiling. If you're curious to know which table this is, it's the round one between the second bar and the restroom in the corner. My friends weren't happy with the dripping (it got our coats and seats wet) but the waiter wouldn't give us a discount off the bill. Hopefully management will fix it. Just like friends' stories could tell you, but not really. This is a place that you have to experience. I got there early--happy hour time, around 6, after work. This is apparently WAY early. But with associates, we passed the time. Later on, the characters came out. 20s period waiters and dancers came to chat with us, sell us a little moonshine, hint at other favors, and generally get us deeper into the vibe of the place. Bartender tried to substitute drinks, when called out, waitress apologized. $300 later, you leave with a stomachache and disappointment. Let's also talk about the most uncomfortable, backless ottomans, which pose as seats. After 2 hour dinner, you need a massage and an adjustment from a chiropractor. My girlfriends and I went there on a Saturday night after going to an early dinner we decided to explore the nightlife in DTLA and we're so glad that we did because the Edison is a true gem in DTLA. It has such a cool vibe it's like an old-school speakeasy the clientele is upscale the staff are friendly and professional. The drinks are strong and they have more than two bars so you can easily get a cocktail ordered. The night that we went they had this really cool cabaret show. This has always been one of my favorite drinking spot since I was in my late 20s. I love the atmosphere here. The people are friendly (okay, sometimes TOO friendly, see below), and the drinks are stronger than most men I've seen at my local gym. However, I didn't give The Edison more than 3 stars is because I don't like how a lot of the men there thinks all women are easy and would go home with them after a few drinks. They don't get what "no" means and would literally make up lies to get you to leave with them. (" We live in Beverly Hills! We are successful men! Blah Blah Blah"). Sorry, not interested. This is by far my favorite bar in Los Angeles! You enter through an alley that automatically makes you think that you are stepping into a speakeasy from the 20s. It's hard to put into words the feeling you get walking down the stairs into the wide open venue. It is the closest that I have ever been to feeling like I was stepping back in time. The space was originally built in 1910 and served as the first power plant but has since been transformed into a trendy nightclub and restaurant while retaining all of the classic charms. There are usually shows that start later in the night and they can vary from magic shows to dance performances. Besides being an incredible space, the food and drinks are outstanding as well. The mixologists here know what they are doing! There is an extensive cocktail menu but they are so knowledgeable that they can probably concoct just about anything you would like. The food at the Edison is also exceptional. The happy hour menu has a few nice options but you can also order off of the dinner menu at any time as well. I recommend trying the steak and fries, macaroni and cheese & shrimp cocktail! And finally, you cannot leave this place without getting the chocolate chip cookies and ice cream. I literally have dreams about these cookies! Do yourself a favor and go here at least once. You will not be disappointed! Tips: 1. Be sure to check the calendar before going. They are generally open on specific nights during the week but also have a lot of closings due to private event/party rentals. 2. The happy hour here is amazing! I had guests from another country. I reserved a table at the Edison for Saturday night. I get a call from The Edison of Friday night, a day before, and told me they have private party so they have to cancel my reservation. I was stuck without a place to go for Saturday night. I was too last minute and I couldn't get reservations anywhere. I've never had something like this happen. WHY DO YOU TAKE A PRIVATE PARTY LAST MINUTE WHEN YOU HAVE RESERVATIONS?? Love, Love, Love! The Edison. An acquaintance of ours used to manage it, so we for sure had top-notch service and fun every time. the food is SUPER! The table behind the DJ booth is awesome- though not the best spot for a show - we'd move to the floor to watch. And those shows are sooooo much fun! A real throw back to Empire Boardwalk, or anywhere you can imagine in old school Manhattan (only right here in LA!) We just love the vibe and the history of the building. Dress code is jacket+ and security is not messing around, so don't try rollin' in in your sneakers and shorts. Be sure to take a look around the whole place - there's so much to see in little nooks and crannies. Very much on the pricey side, it's an expensive night out, but treat yourself. What-ever happened to MY beautiful power plant? His used to be THE place in DTLA. It is still the most stunning venue I've ever laid eyes on, but man, the music... the crowd! Came here to see the burlesque show with some friends from out of town. It lasted ONE song. The music playing was weird, like not very skilfully mixed and what I remember to be a strict dress code (I mean, I know it's LA, but sometimes it's nice to dress up!) it's just another bar with men on snickers.
