A great unique little Portland gem. The best part is the big big hot tub out in the open air. The vibe is just great--all kinds of people, all very friendly and chill, with almost no awkwardness or creeping. The steam room and sauna are fine, but a bit on the small side and aren't quite as relaxing. The outside area also has a lovely fire pit with lounge chairs and tubs of different temperature waters. I went to Common Ground Everett House specifically to use the steam room. I was having some allergy issues and needed a good steam to help. It was my first time and I loved it. I received a friendly greeting, paid for an hour, and was shown where to go. I was there right at 10am on Saturday morning and had the place to myself at first. The receptionist told me the steam room might not be fully ready, but not to worry because she isn't strict about time. I was happy to see the steam room was not only ready, but very hot and very steamy. Just what I needed. As mentioned, this place is co-ed, and very clothing optional. Pure Portland. It is by no means creepy. Not long after I got settled in one or two others came into the steam room. It was so steamy you could barely tell you weren't alone. Several times I walked out to get some water and cool down in the shower. Nearly each time someone new was in the shower/water area. Everyone was respectful, and pleasant, all without really talking or ruining the relaxed atmosphere. I turned in my locker key about 11:15 with no worries about being a little past my time. I highly recommend this place and can't wait to go back with my wife and to also try some of the rest of the facility. Great experience. read more

I love this place. It feels like a hidden oasis in portland! I've read some reviews about people being put-off by the chiropractor because of his "sales" tactics. The way I see it, he cares about people getting medical help and offers payment plans to try to make it possible for people to afford what they need. His heart is in the right place, even though he doesn't come across that way to everyone who is uncomfortable with hearing about their biostructural problems. He wants you to come with your family so that everyone can be involved in upholding a healthy lifestyle. It's a healing center people, not a drive-thru! I have been seeing the doctor for months now and my neck movement range has increased and I've had less back pain. I'm very grateful to him and Dr. Ali for that! The ladies downstairs in the spa are wonderful, too. I always feel very welcomed and at peace there. This place is so beautiful, peaceful and zen. The staff were very helpful with calm and relaxing dispositions. The grounds indoor abd outdoor are beautifully decorated. It is clothing optional but no body is gross about it. I did not see a single dressed peron (myself included) so if that makes you uncomfortable you might reconsider a different spa. I was nervous about my first float but the lady assuured me the anxiety only lasts a second and goes away. She was right it was amazing. I am even in love with there soap. I love that they have both a quiet area for more meditation type spa and then the outdoor social area. I cant wait to come back. read more

The spa itself is great, but the customer service is terrible. If you have any issues because of a bad massage or any other issues, management has no customer service skills when speaking to you and goes off on their spiritual soapbox. My girlfriend and I used the spa services for about one hour in the evening. The front desk staff was friendly enough and the other guests were respectful. Overall a very relaxing time for both of us. Overall the place was clean, although a little more effort could be paid to the locker and shower area. By no means was it unclean, but with the number of people that filter in and out having these areas slightly more clean might be reassuring to others. That being said, Ill be back soon. A pretty place, but all in all damp and dirty. I feel like my feet were exposed to all kinds of nasties. Tea lounge, which was the big draw for me, was closed without explanation. The facility is coed, which is great in theory but actually made me feel extremely unsafe. There are men who hang it in the pools and seemed to be eyeballing all the women and trying to start up conversations. I have been in many a nude facility without issue, but didn't feel safe removing my towel here. The "cold pools" are literally just bath tubs filled with cold water, dead bugs, and other people's hair. Not in any way sanitary. Also, it was $21 for an hour. Left more stressed than I entered. I'm sure this is a great place for those who know what to expect and are cool with it, but it was not a good experience for me. read more

The Common Ground Everett House is a bit of a hidden gem. They have a great staff with a very relaxing and welcoming practice environment. I too used the Groupon, and I'm happy I did because overall it is a wonderful place. The complimentary chiropractic examination was very informative and helpful, and I am getting weekly check-ups now. The massage though short, I only did the 30 minutes, was very relaxing and effective. I had Miranda, she had a good way of feeling the energy in the room, and also had clear knowledge of the pressure points and ways to apply pressure. The float tank is an experience in itself, and I definitely would like to try it again for more than 30 minutes. The steam room and sauna are great. The overall look and feel of the steam and sauna room is very relaxing and inviting. It looked and smelled clean, and had a great atmosphere that is perfect when you are trying to relieve stress and relax. Overall I had and still have a great experience there and hope to continue to receive treatments and use the float tank and massage more often. read more

My boyfriend purchased the Groupon deal for a 1-hour massage & spa for the both of us. I called to make an appointment but it went straight to voice message. I left a detailed message explaining that I wanted to schedule two 1-hour massages with my availability and a good time to call back. Unfortunately, when they called back, I missed it. But when I called back soon after, it went straight to voice message again. I continued to call back for about a week hoping to actually get a real human being to answer the phone. I decided to go on their website to see if online scheduling was an option. I clicked on the link for their online scheduling and it led me to nothing. Finally, I decided to e-mail them to see if I could arrange something. I received a very unprofessional response saying, "Sorry, but email is the worst way to schedule an appointment. Please try calling again." Like, a fool, I called again, and got nothing. My boyfriend and I were so frustrated, he had to contact Groupon to get a full refund. I cannot understand how a business like that can function without having a receptionist available to pick up their phones at all times. And whoever responds to the emails definitely needs formal/professional business writing skills. On the bright side, after reading all the 1-star reviews, I'm glad I didn't waste at least an hour of my time to have a mediocre massage, a lecture on spinal health, and an aggressive sales pitch thrown at me. read more

Do yourself a favor: research the many online reviews (besides mine) and pick another spa. When I bought 3 of these for gifts, my giftees were not allowed to book the required appointment to use the floatation tank unless they had a credit card. If the owners haven't noticed, not everyone in Portland lives on the treadmill of continuous credit card debt and therefore don't have them. When I called to clarify what is on the BUY page in the FINE PRINT section for this deal: "Limit 1 per person, may buy multiple additional as gifts. Limit 1 per visit. Reservation required. 24hr cancellation required or fee up to Groupon price may apply. " Some woman called back and said they would not change their policy and that the above quoted section "implies the credit card requirement". I explained an implication is not a legal disclosure in a section labeled FINE PRINT. She said she would have the manager call back "some time in the coming week". I got on yelp and even the Groupon reviews and after seeing the word "condescending" connected to staff MANY times and MANY other unhappy experiences, I cancelled my Groupon. The lower price coupled the probability of a negative experience don't seem worth it to me. There are PLENTY of other places for these services. read more

I have visited Everette House numorous times and each time has been fantastic!! I have used the float tanks and had massages and sauna hot tub sessions and loved every minute of all the services!! I can not say enough good things about this place!! The staff is always helpful and knowledgeable and the prices of services are the best I have found. There really isn't too many places that offer all of the services that they do at one place and I appreciate that, nothing better than sitting in a hot tub before and after a massage!! The place is very clean and they provide all that you need, the clothing optional factor is not uncomfortable at all, it is a non sexual atmosphere and all kinds of people go there, I have never felt uncomfortable at all and I have been naked every time I've been there. I used to love this place years ago but it's just not the same. They only offer 2 hours for women's only time a week, what's the point? To each his own but if you prefer a non-coed sauna and soak the 2 hours per week just doesn't cut it. When I've gone at co-ed times it was a majority of men a majority of the time. I agree with other reviews that the overall vibe of the staff is cool and aloof not warm and inviting. Two separate half days of women only or one full day (as other spas in town offer) might encourage me to go here more. read more

I couldn't agree more with the other one star reviews! My husband bought this Groupon for me when I was pregnant with our daughter thinking it would be a nice day of relaxation for me to enjoy after the baby was born. I went in last week (8 weeks after the birth and very sleep deprived) and did not enjoy the experience at all. I thought I would be receiving a chiropractic adjustment followed by a massage. Instead I was lectured on spinal health and given x-rays as I was told I had a potentially serious issue with my neck mobility (of course in hindsight, I should have declined the x-rays). The massage was fine. Not bad but not amazing either. As I was leaving, the receptionist asked to schedule me for two more appointments. I do not have endless hours to treck across the city (again- just had a baby and can't be away for more than 2 hours at this point). However, I did go back yesterday to get the results of the x-rays and take the float and sauna. Yesterday's experience turned out to be even more bizarre than last week's! I was lead to a room with 2 others where we were again lectured about the spinal cord for 20 minutes and then had to watch a sakes pitch type movie for 10 minutes. I felt like I was bring sold a time share...except I wasn't on a tropical island with a drink in my hand :) The doctor then spoke to each of us separately and informed me that my neck issues were quite serious (mind you no other doctor or chiro I have ever been to has told me I have a neck issue). He then preceded to tell me that I must have been born using forcepts (not the case) and that my treatments would be partially covered by health insurance but we could work out a payment plan for what wasn't covered. He was pushing for me to return today with my 3 year old, newborn, and husband in tow. When I told him that wasn't possible, he asked if I was comfortable making my own health decisions. Great- now I am an incapable hunchback. Thanks, doc! Stay away from the sales pitch and slimy delivery and find yourself a different chiropractor. I wish hubby would have purchased the mani/pedi Groupon in leiu of this one. That would have been much more relaxing! read more

Bought the Float + Soak Groupon and had an amazzzzing experience here! I had 1 for my partner as well but an emergency popped up and he wasn't able to float next to me, but the staff let me gift it to some one else in the lobby! So rad. I love this facility. The float tanks are older but they're still great. I felt pretty clean as well, considering everyone is naked in all sorts of different spa treatments. I would recommend bringing flip flops or sandals. The whole place is so quiet, which I loved! After my float, I glided into the outdoor salt water pool. The backyard is so awesome here!! Loved the big open space, and the tub is spacious enough that I didn't feel crowded. This was my first clothing optional within a facility experience and I couldn't have felt more comfortable! :) I will definitely be back!! read more

I was very disappointed with the front staff. I had scheduled a massage with a gift certificate I received for a massage and two hour spa time. I am only comfortable with women only hours, which they have two hours out of the week. When I scheduled the massage, I told this to the woman, and she said she understood and could just book the massage. She NEVER mentioned the spa and massage had to be used on the same visit, nor does it say on the gift card any information about this. When I go in for my massage, the woman told me I would only be able to use the gift card for the massage and wouldn't be able to use the spa time another day. Her name was Jennifer and she was incredibly rude.I either had to pay $100 for the massage and save the card, or throw away my two hours of spa time gifted to me. The staff had told me incorrect information when I originally booked the appointment, and then I ended up having to pay $25 cancellation fee for the front staff's OWN mistake. I found it highly poor etiquette for making a customer have to pay for your own mistake. I work in the customer service industry and know when a client/customer deserves to be treated better. This is supposed to be a place of healing? So far from it. Would not recommend. read more

I highly recommend an afternoon, in this beautiful oasis. At first I was a little weary walking into the basement of a house - upon arriving I was greeted very nicely and was told about the facility and felt very welcomed. This was my first spa experience and it was delightful. A little awkward because I wasn't sure what I should be wearing in the sauna or wearing to the room where I get the massage. I just ended up spending the afternoon walking around this beautiful vintage house in my boxers. A little awkward but after all it was my first time so I didn't know what to expect. I climbed the three flights of stairs and laid down on the massage bed. The masseuse (forgive me I can't remember her name) was very down to earth and friendly. We talked about everything that the world has to offer. Before I knew it the massage was over and I was sad. However this was an incredible experience and I highly recommend it. It is one of the few clothing optional bathing/hot tub/sauna (dry and wet options) places in Portland that you will never find sex or makeouts happening. It is well-supervised enough to be safe solo. What was life like before we discovered the Everett house? I can hardly remember. It has become a staple in our self-care routine, our favorite way to unwind and destress during the week after a long day. Especially through the rainy winter months in Portland, it's such a perfect way to warm the bones and lift the spirit. I only wish we are able to sing in the steam room, it has great acoustics - but there are float tanks next door, so we have to be silent in there. Ah well. If you want a more peaceful, inward experience, try quiet hours from 10-11. We love to bring out-of-towners here, with the caveat that it is clothing optional, which not everyone is used to. First time visit with my wife. Nice to come to a place where you both can use the place at the same time. Did the float followed by the spa. Was definitely an relaxing, freeing experience. Never did a float before. Facilities were very clean. Was relaxing for about the first hour but then I personally was feeling a little overheated and dehydrated . Wife did not have that issue and for her the time flew by. If you have not tried a float you should try it and see if it is for you. The hostess who showed us around was professional and personable. Spa atmosphere was very layback and unobtrusive. Loved the fire pit on a crisp night with rain sprinkles falling on you. Used a Groupon, but even normal fees are very reasonable. I used the groupon deal for a float and soak/sauna today. As I was checking out the front desk person said I had a charge of @10.50 I believe. I was confused and thought maybe there was a hidden charge and asked what it was for-it was because I went over an hour on the soak/sauna portion of the groupon. I double checked the mobile groupon and it did not say anything about a time limit (it does on the print out but I didn't receive an email as they had an old email address on file). The woman at the front desk was understanding, helpful, and kind but as we were chatting another worker was talking behind the curtain behind her and would poke her head out & interrupt our conversation but never actually took the time to get up and check in with me from behind the curtain. She basically said 'you have been here before and you knew it was an hour with a not sincere smile'. The last and only other time I had been there was in August and a lot has happened in my life since then and I honestly did not remember the length of the groupon. I was dumbfounded by her response and basically felt like I was accused of lying. Another worker there also said I was the first person ever who made that error. Needless to say it wasn't a very healing atmosphere and I was already feeling quite vulnerable after the float that I almost wanted to cry. It was not about the actual money or charge, but being treated like I was trying to pull one over on them. They are very strict on their policies and apparently don't have discretion to be more flexible and understanding if an honest mistake is made. read more

My husband planned my 50th birthday here as a pamper day. He knows I only like deep tissue massage, so really quizzed the reception regarding the therapist they chose. He was assured that was her specialty. We also wanted a couples massage and they said that would work. Upon arrival the facility was explained very well and we were given a great tour. Sitting in the hot tub was very tranquil. I was feeling excited about the experience thus far. Unfortunately, they must not have understood what "couples massage" meant as we were at the same time, but not in the same room. My husband said he had the worst massage he'd ever had, and mine was so horrible I felt like jumping off the table. I was more tense leaving than when I had arrived. I told her how I liked deeper tissue work and she said she would do that. She applied a little more pressure which felt as if she was rubbing my skin with a dry suntanning lotion. A couple times she hit my backbone. It felt as if she hadn't finished schooling and I was her first guinea pig. I wrote a letter and never received anything back from the company. I give 2 stars for the facility and hot tub area, but I would give negative for both massages. My husband also felt as if lotion was just being smeared around, with no knowledge of muscle work. The most distressing was to not receive a response from the company and the cost of the massage is that of a high end therapist. With the negative reviews on yelp and the groupons aplenty, I feel the management should pay attention to the criticism and make some drastic changes. We didn't encounter any creepers like mentioned in other reviews, but there were only 2 other people in the spa the day we were there. read more
