It was hard getting someone's attention when I walked in. I had to walk up to someone working there and they just stared back at me. They had an eclectic variety of music playing. I heard Motown (Smokie, and more), Elvis, The Beatles. The food was excellent. I got the 3 tacos and got beef, shredded chicken, Al pastor. All 3 were delicious. That was some of the best Al pastor I've had...and I later realized that it wasn't an option on the menu. They seem to also specialize in their drinks. Persuaded by the great photos and videos I had seen I was excited to try the Fab. Located across the street from SJU it's walkable distance from most of downtown. Parking is rough downtown but there are meters and lots available. The decor inside the Fab looks like they are amping it up to be ig worthy but it still needs more work. They're still got a few signs up that belonged to the previous owners (Pete's Coffee). My friends and I went during lunch time on a weekend and it wasn't busy at all, we got seated immediately and provided water while we figured out our order. The menu is pretty standard of Mexican-American food. They have Michaela flights and mimosa flights which is a plus and why we came to try them out. The Miche flight was good- but our server didn't tell us the flavors nor seemed interested enough to do so if we asked so we just played a 'guess what' game instead. The food wasn't that great, it wasn't bad but it wasn't flavorful either. Between all of us we got 2 taco salads (one steak, one shrimp) and the jicama tacos. Every dish had the same reaction -eh. Total cost was broken down to have added a "Covid wellness recovery fee" which was about $6, Santa Clara Count fee which was about $3 and our meals. Came to be about $85 which for the quality wasn't worth it. I'd probably try it for happy hour because the drinks seemed to be the focal point. read more

This is a casual restaurant with a clean and inviting space, plant decor dangling from the ceiling, and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The menu is quite extensive, offering pastas, salads, tacos, seafood, steak, pizza, and burgers, as well as an endless list of cocktails and other beverages. We got the raspberry margarita and strawberry margarita and they were very tasty and refreshing. We also ordered two salads, which were decent and made with fresh ingredients. But they skimped on the tortilla strips in the shrimp caesar salad, literally 3 soggy pieces buried underneath the lettuce. And they put sour cream in the chicken fab salad even though we requested no sour cream (due to dietary restrictions). The staff was willing to fix issues, and service was sufficient and friendly. I would order their breakfast burrito again, but go with another protein option the next time around (chorizo, ham, chicken, or bacon). Service was friendly and helpful; however, when they got busier, we had to flag our server down towards the end of the meal. They had indoor seating available as well as a few tables for outdoor seating (unless it's raining, since the outdoor seating isn't covered). Went for a weekend brunch. Not a particularly bustling spot at 11 AM on a Saturday. The service was pretty subpar. A lot of misinformation including: 1) 90 minute limit for the bottomless mimosas, not written anywhere on the menu or explained when we ordered but was mentioned when we reached the time limit. 2) The brunch menu says the chilaquiles come with beans on the side, but I asked the wait staff after my entrée came out and they said no it doesn't and I had to order a side of them, which they charged me for. 3) Missed item customization for some of us, including making the steak burritos we ordered breakfast burritos without specifying or asking for clarification, and including beans when one of us requested no beans. The food is decent and priced fairly with sizable portions. The eggs were done expertly on top of the chilaquiles, and seasoned, and the proportions of ingredients were all satisfactory with a generous portion of steak and a good spread of sauce distributed over the chips. Burritos are served in those plastic baskets while other items are served on ceramic ware. Bottomless mimosas are $18 here which is a good price as well, but the last pitcher we were served literally had ice cubes in it, which was disrespectful to the drink and to us; I guess we were being told we were no longer welcome. Also, if you order coffee here understand that it's not diner style and you will get no free refills on it. The restaurant itself is pretty small, and we had to squeeze in narrowly between 2 other tables even though the restaurant was relatively empty. Overall I'm disappointed. I suspect some of the downsides I experienced are a result of this place being right next to SJSU, but still the level of service is unacceptable in my opinion. It seems well enough equipped as a bar but could use a lot of improvement as a brunch spot. read more

I wish I could give 4 and a half stars. The only thing preventing a 5 star review was the temp in the restaurant. It was cooler outside than indoors. The service was friendly, it would have been nice to know that our waitress was taking a break but it wasn't that big of a deal. The food was great. I ordered chips and salsa to start. My husband got the chicken enchiladas, which I thought they were a tad spicy, my husband did not think so. I ordered the Birria nachos and they were soooo delicious. The chips held up to the toppings and did not get droopy. They stayed crisp and crunchy. Everything was pretty well priced. When we left the server who checked us out said "See you tomorrow" which I thought was pretty clever and funny. If we ever get back out here I would definitely come back. read more

So on a whim, I decided to stop here for lunch today. When you walk into the place, there is a larger bar right near the front. So at first I thought this place might have been a bar or pub. The menu has a lot of options on it, That range from sandwiches, to pizza to Mexican and fusions between the styles. I went with the quesobirria grilled cheese sandwich. It was delicious. It was filled with a lot of meat and cheese. I only wish I would have gotten some consume with the sandwich, like I would with the tacos. The meat was well seasoned and mekted like butter when you bit into it. The fries had some Cajon seasoning on them and were fresh and hot when I got them. They look like they have a robust selection of beers and wines. Kassandra was very attentive to the two-three other tables, which were all men. We were a table of all women. The guys got their food and drinks right away, while we constantly had to ask where our food was and if the order was even placed. Best of all, one of the other tables ordered the Dip Trio, got everything in little molcajete bowls, and we got ours in little paper cups. Should have known from that moment how we were going to be treated. Also, they did NOT earn the $50 tip they automatically included on our tab. That was shocking. The drinks were so-so, definitely not worth their high prices. Micheladas were warm, our "mixed drink" tasted like fruit juice, and we had to keep getting up to ask for simple things like a refill on water or napkins or where our food was. I have been here 4 times, the food, drinks, and service are usually great hence why I keep coming back. It's a little hidden spot in downtown, with a super cute inside, music playing - not too loud so you can enjoy conversation with friends. Unfortunately this last time that I came was not as great, I came on a Tuesday 04/01/25 to take advantage of their Taco Tuesday special, 2 for 1 street tacos. Me and my friend ordered the chicken flauta appetizers (my favorite), two street tacos each (3 al pastor and 1 steak), two side orders of guacamole, and two non alcoholic drinks. There was a waitress that took our order first and then a male that would check in on us every now and then. We got the flautas first and then we were waiting to ask for plates and for the guacamole to enjoy with the flautas. When the male came to check on his we let him know what we were waiting for and he said "oh the guacamole?" And left and came back with the guacamole and chips. We told him that we didn't get the order with the chips, just two sides, so he said "hold on" and went to talk to the waitress, came back and took away the guacamole and chips and came back with two tiny dipping cups with guacamole. Like I said, I've been here multiples times and I've never had such a small side of guacamole. In the past it will usually come in a molcajete type dish with a decent amount more that what we got. I let it slide and figured maybe he thought we just wanted a little bit and that he wasn't going to charge us for the normal sides. Then, once we were eating the flautas, we noticed that one of the 3 was missing chicken in half the flauta, it was just an empty shell. After waiting a while longer for our tacos, (at this point we are probably 45 minutes past ordering) the male came over again and asked how everything was and I told him that we were just awaiting for our tacos. He says "tacos?" Again like he didn't know we even ordered tacos, just like that guacamole. He talks with the waitress again and comes out immediately with our 4 tacos - 2 al pastor and 2 steak, which is not what we ordered. At this point I just wanted to finish and leave so I decided not to say anything and eat the tacos, the steak also ended up being really good, even better than the al pastor so it worked out. I decided to go up to pay so I didn't have to wait for them - keep in mind that is was not super busy, there was one large party at a table and then another small party besides us - I went to pay and noticed I was charged $2 each for the tiny dipping cups of guacamole which is the same amount I have paid before for the much larger sides. I'm not sure if maybe the waitress was just new and didn't put in our order correctly, but it was hopefully just a one off from the times I've been before. Hopefully it will stay more consistent because I will still be returning and the food still is really good. I don'e like being confrontational which is why I did not say anything at the time, but hopefully with the review it will provide some constructive criticism. Food is a on the pricier side for small portions and took a while to come out, but I gotta say, the drinks are worth it. We got the chilaquiles supreme, breakfast fries, and breakfast enchiladas for food, and the big mimosa to share and not pictured is the margarita pitcher. It does get a little rowdy and people throwing up all over the bathrooms. Service is somewhat lacking. At times the servers were attentive and others, it's hard to flag someone down. Let's TACO 'bout the newest Mexican restaurant in town! Located in the heart of downtown San Jose, the FAB offers gourmet, Mexican fusion cuisine in a warm, gracious atmosphere reminiscent of a Mexican country hacienda. Here's what I tried: chicken street taco: each street taco contains two double corn tortillas, filled with a generous helping of onion, cilantro, salsa, and deliciously fragrant grilled chicken. Personally, I found the chicken a little bit on the tougher side, but this was definitely a solid choice! dirty fries: loaded French fries with melted Jack cheese, Chipotle aioli, jalapeños, marinated onions, and topped with an over-easy fried egg. I'm not sure if this dish was over fried/refried for me, but my fries were a bit on the stale/rough side, and my egg was definitely over-fried. Nevertheless, this would be the perfect dish to pair with any of the drinks on their menu! shrimp tacos: each order comes with three tortillas (your choice of corn or flour) filled with sautéed shrimp, tomatoes, garlic, onions, and topped with sliced cabbage salad, avocado, and Chipotle aioli sauce. This was definitely my favorite dish out of the three that I tried, and I would highly recommend getting this, especially with how tender and flavorful the shrimp is! Service: the employees were friendly, but definitely not the most attentive, even with a small lunch crowd. I do want to note that I sat outside, so service might be a bit better if you dine inside or sit at the bar. Nevertheless, even with other famous Mexican food options such as La Vics and Iguana just down the street, the FAB definitely holds a lot of potential to be a popping spot for games and weekend nights, especially with their extensive bar and menu options. Ordered breakfast delivery from here this morning after seeing an IG video depicting this restaurant. Made it look really good but I can say confidently I'll never order from here again. First, we ordered two breakfast burritos. When the order arrived, one of burritos had been made into a sandwich. The bread was so soggy and impossible to hold without falling apart. I double checked my receipt to make sure I hadn't accidentally ordered wrong but it clearly said two burritos. The sandwich was inedible so my bf and I decided not to eat it and just split the other breakfast burrito instead. A couple bites in and I found a HUGE piece of plastic inside of it. Now that was inedible as well (didn't have any flavor to even begin with but we were starving). A breakfast completely ruined and a total waste of time now that we have to come up with a plan B for breakfast. Absolutely unacceptable. read more

I came here on a Friday evening before going to see a show at the Hammer. They have good happy hour specials, though it isn't immediately clear what they are. I included a photo to refer to for anyone else wondering. I do wish the happy hour had cocktail and wine specials, but it is just food and beer. I got the shrimp ceviche and it was a large serving for the happy hour price and it was SO good and refreshing on the hot day. The service is great and the environment is fun, but they don't have AC, which is the reason for my 3 stars. Not sure how they manage to work in there! I was sweating and not doing anything. The couple sitting next to me at the bar was going to get another round of drinks, but ended up leaving because they were too hot. Hopefully that is in the works!! On Fridays they also have a late night happy hour, so I decided to come back after the show! Enjoyed a cold beer and there was live music. A mix between a DJ and one man band. Not the best I've heard, but still enjoyable and mostly adorable! The party next to me at the bar was celebrating a birthday and this place does it well! They light special sparklers and sing happy birthday, all with birthday shots that I was lucky to be handed too!! Stopped by here unexpectedly and so glad we did. the owner Adrian was so awesome and hospitable. Felt welcomed the second we stepped foot inside. We even got served peanuts with our drink. The drinks are great here and I appreciated the variety. What really stood out to me was the unique food. Yes it's Mexican food but it's created in a way that really stands out. We made reservations at The FAB for a group of about 12 people through Yelp Reservations and they provided great service to everyone in our group! It just so happened to be Taco Tuesday the day we were visiting. The FAB is located right by Philz Coffee and Gong Cha near San Jose, on Paseo de San Antonio. The restaurant seems to be newer to the SJ area compared to neighboring businesses - inside, it's really cute with a lot of photo opportunities around the restaurant. It definitely seems like a great place to go to for some nice and casual eats. They were able to bring out everyone's food around the same time which was impressive considering how large our group was. For Taco Tuesday, the tacos were BOGO Free! I tried the Al Pastor tacos which weren't the most amazing I've had but were still very good. I was eyeing down a couple of other dishes that I definitely wish I had ordered instead, like their Shrimp Tacos. They have a nice and welcoming environment, overall they have good food and are great for large parties! read more

I think the only major downside for me and the reason for 4/5 stars is the price. Like wow! It was really expensive to eat here. I love street tacos from my local vendors on the sidewalk but I was thinking "let's try street tacos at an actual restaurant" I will definitely stick to my vendors. I think any Mexican cuisine place should have fresh horchata ready to be serve. It's a staple drink to have! But they did not make any the day we went. Sad. It was a pleasant experience.
