I hired this company in January because of its strong online reviews and reputation in the community. Unfortunately, my experience ended up costing me thousands of dollars and months of frustration. After a sewer backup, they determined that a section of my sewer line needed to be excavated and replaced. I was home alone with my young kids and was told that it would cost almost $10,000 to do the work, but that the owner sometimes discounts if people pay cash, which seemed strange to me. Approximately 6-10 feet of pipe was removed, but the backup issue was never resolved, and they told me it would cost them several thousand dollars more for them to continue to look for the problem. The employees were extremely unprofessional, and were swearing constantly to me when they were explaining my sewer situation, which I have on video. Their model seems to be fear based selling, and they capitalize on people in their moments of desperation. They left exposed sewer pipe open in my basement, and no working plumbing for several days. At this point, I hired a second plumbing company for second opinion. They used the proper cleanout, found the actual blockage near the sidewalk, and cleared it by rodding, without removing the section of pipe that had been excavated. They also had to repair and reconnect the work that had already been performed. This was all done within a few hours, and never needing to excavate any sewer pipe. Between the original invoice and the corrective work , this mistake became extremely expensive. As I looked into what had happened, I confirmed with our Village that no permit had been issued for the excavation work performed at my home, despite our contract with the company saying they would submit these. I also learned that the company's village plumbing license had expired at the time the work was completed. That was alarming to discover after the fact. I made every effort to resolve this directly with the owner, Ron, before considering legal action. Instead, he told me to talk to his insurance carrier, who ultimately denied his claim. I was left paying for work that should never have been necessary and repeatedly dismissed by this company throughout the process, and they seem to show no remorse for the damage they caused our home and family. I've since spoken with other homeowners in the area who shared similar experiences regarding The fair plumber recommending sewer excavation. While I can't speak to the details of their situations, it reinforced my decision to share my own experience, so no one else is taken advantage of or treated this unfairly. If you're facing a sewer issue, or any plumbing issue, I highly recommend getting a second opinion before authorizing excavation or sewer line replacement. read more

Never calling The Fair Plumber again. We used them years ago and spent over $6,000 to replace an outdoor pipe, so when we started having a similar issue, we called them back. They did come out quickly, which I appreciated. However, they quoted us $17,000 to replace about 20 feet of piping. Thankfully, a friend encouraged me to get a second opinion. Another company came out within an hour, used a different tool, flushed the line, and resolved the issue for $900. I cannot believe I was almost pressured into paying $17,000 for a problem that was fixed for $900. To make matters worse, the manager was very unpleasant when I told him I wanted to check with another company. Extremely disappointing experience. I would not recommend The Fair Plumber. read more

One star. Extremely disappointed with the service I received. I scheduled a Saturday plumbing appointment between 11 and 2. Elaine later told me the plumber, Jose, was running behind on a previous job, and I understood that could happen. Instead of arriving, Jose called, asked for pictures and a video to give a quote. I sent everything he requested and then waited. After my appointment window had passed, he said he couldn't determine the cost from photos and would still need to come out, which was the reason I scheduled the appointment in the first place. Then I was asked if they could come Monday because they were busy with other jobs. I explained I work weekdays and had booked Saturday for that reason. Only then was I told there would be a 99 dollar weekend service fee, which was never disclosed when I booked. Being delayed is one thing, but asking me to wait, trying to reschedule because you're busy while also adding an undisclosed weekend fee is unacceptable. I wasted hours waiting for a plumber who never showed up. The communication and customer service were extremely disappointing. I will not be using this company again or recommending them. read more

I called this company to request sewer rodding. Have had this work done for as little as $99 in the past. I know it is a fairly simple job as I have had it done multiple times in the past... less than hour of work (including travel time). Quoted $600 when they arrived, so I had them leave and am contacting another plumber. PS - I was able to get the rodding done an hour later by another company for $199. read more

Do not hire The Fair Plumber. They came out to repair our sump pump 12/17/23. Ten days later, while we were out of town, our basement flooded. The repair they made was faulty, leaving both sump pumps not working. Sump pump 1 had the float installed improperly. Sump pump 2 had spliced wires (not up to code) and wasn't even plugged in. The unplugged sump pump was the backup if pump 1 went out. We called the owner of the Fair Plumber. He was incredibly rude. He told us the plumber he sent for the repair no longer worked for him and there was nothing he could do to help us. Our water damage and the need for a whole new system is the result of bad work from the Fair Plumber. The Fair Plumber even removed our property (the Zoeller panel they thought might not be working) without permission-the panel is a $700 piece of equipment. A business like this has insurance for this type of situation. The owner hung up on our insurance claims adjuster and is unwilling to do the right thing, forcing us to take legal action. The only bright side was our credit company agreed with us and refunded us the full amount of the unprofessional service performed by The UnFair Plumber. read more

Really not sure. Very response and ready to do work. However, more concerned to replace a water heater than trouble shoot it. I opted not to use them.. Turned out, I just needed a $11 thermo coupler and I'm back in business with hot water. When I called The Fair Plumber to rod-out my sewer line, the plumber proactively ran a camera to investigate two spots that were causing concern. He was right! The sewer line had a bad break in both spots! At first, the thought of having my yard dig up made me very nervous--but from the moment they started the job, I was very thankful that they I hired them. They handled everything--from pulling all the permits to calling JULIE--they carefully maneuvered around the underground gas lines and then put everything back in place after the city inspected the repairs. They also cleaned up everything, taking away the old pipe and the massive tree roots that caused the problems. What I thought to be a minor drain clog turned into a major disaster. Our entire sewer line had cracked and collapsed from the back of the house all the way to the sidewalk. NEVER SKIP THE SEWER INSPECTION WHEN BUYING A NEW HOME! I called The Fair Plumber and they sent out Manny first. He was extremely knowledgeable and professional throughout this ordeal. He found the first section of collapsed pipe quickly, and I was quoted a fair price. As they started to repair, they discovered much more of the pipe was cracked, and there were sinkholes everywhere. The owner, Ron, came over to inspect it himself. We were already stretched thin financially, but Ron worked with us and gave us a great price for the entire job. The rest of the crew came out and within two days, over 100' of pipe was installed and reburied. Our thanks to Ron, John, Manny, Rob, Tyler, Rolando, and Johnny. Honestly, they were all great. CAUTION SCAMMING SINGLE MOTHERS: I called when my ejector pump stopped working. The representative did not take the cover off the pit, only peeked in threw the small hole and told me my ejector pump was broke and needed replaced. I let him know it was not old and he said the early life was due to flushable wipes. The price he gave was more than double what I paid last time so I let him know and declined the service. The man went to his car for a while and I had to wait in my entry way while he "wrote up the quote." When he came back he handed me his phone and manager tried to convince me of a $100.00 discount to get immediate service which I asserted was still MORE THAN DOUBLE what I paid last time. This whole sales pitch approach game me horrible intuition so I sent them on their way. A second company came out and in moments was able to tell me my ejector pump was in great condition and did not need a replacement, it just needed an adjustment because the company that installed it years ago did so backwards which was causing it to malfunction. The "fair plumber" told me my working ejector pump was broke and tried to take advantage of a single mother and I think that deserves a review to caution you. read more

The fair plumber pricing was rather unfair- was quoted $550 for replacement of 2 outdoor garden faucets (materials is less than $50, 1 hr of labor), which was more than double Thumbtack! Not 20% more, not 50%, but about 130% more. They are charging $500/hr labor rate! I didn't ask for a bypass- this is simple plumbing! Do your due diligence before using them- they are off my go-to list. Rename your business to The Fairly Expensive Plumbers. In reply to owner's comment, not only you are expensive, you have poor record keeping as well. If you don't like your dentist's charges, you don't need to commence treatment, just like I didn't use your business after receiving your estimate. If you think your quote was wrong, you should look into possibility that your worker is quoting something different than what you actually receive. So...I tripped over my dog, and broke my fall with my under mount sink....I may have been making breakfast sandwiches after a couple cocktails late at night. I know you're wondering, the pup is fine, as he's 120 lbs. and always hungry. Anyhow, I broke a coupe pipes under the sink as well. Dimitri showed up same day, and quoted up a price I thought was a bit high, but he was there at 4pm on a Sunday. So we went ahead with the work. Everything didn't go smoothly, but I'm in the construction industry, and I know that nothing ever goes as planned. If you think it does, you're a fool. Dimitri was unable to find the proper epoxy to set in the anchors, although he did try his best. The thing that struck me, was that he was honest, and didn't do a half assed job just to get out of there and collect the money. He recommended I talk to a granite installer to get the anchors properly set. We did so. The next day, Dimitri made it to our house to despite a full schedule to hook the pipes and disposal back up. They ended up charging less than half of what was originally quoted. Great attitude, honest from the get go, and kept the area of work spotless. Will call the Fair Plumber again...hopefully not in the near future though. read more

Called them for All drains backing up. They were out within three hours. They rodded the drain and then they opened up the check valve and the check valve was all corroded and broken and cracked. They then ran the camera in the main sewer and found a cracked and corroded section just outside the foundation. Came back out and replaced all that needed replacing. Finished all concrete work. Every worker that worked on the repair was so nice and told me what they were doing and answered all my questions. The Fair Plumber is now in my contacts as "My Plumber". read more

These guys came by to assess an issue with my powder room toilet. It's a more unique model, built into the wall (Kohler Veil) and I could tell they hadn't encountered it before. They were here for several hours, and spent a fair amount of time sitting in their truck outside. Nice but very young guys, ultimately said they needed to look up the part and would get me a quote in a day or two. They completely vaporized after they left - never heard from them. Their employee Rolando cane to our house for a backed up/flooding floor drain in my unfinished basement. It turns out, that drain was managed by an injection pump in the corner near it. I didn't even know it existed. Somehow, the pump had gotten slightly unplugged and had no power. And soon as I pushed the plug fully in, the drain emptied. Plumber arrived with none of the parts, despite dispatch knowing exactly the scope of work (garbage disposal installation). Then, despite looking over the existing plumbing and having to leave to get the parts/tools, he didn't notice until two hours in that the dishwasher hose would not fit the disposal. He then proceeded to stare blankly, failing to offer any solution, as if I was the plumber in this relationship. To top it all off, despite telling us he would attach the power cord to the device, he did not even leave a power cord. So that was an extra cost from the electrician. Oh and their business phone line does not accept voicemail, so I couldn't even leave a message to complain. I was very disappointed in the service here. Do your due diligence! Had our sewer back up and called The Fair Plumber to check out the issue. They were very responsive and able to come out within a couple of hours. They used a camera to look at the line and we were told that there was a crack in the sewer pipe and there were tree roots causing some damage. They said they would need to dig up the area and replace some of the pipe; quoted us $6977 for the work. We initially agreed to this but after giving it some thought overnight we decided to get other quotes. Had another plumber come out who also used a camera to look into the sewer line. He did not see a crack, did find a couple of areas that were clogged, and said there were some tree roots there but they were not causing an issue. The guys quickly cleared the clog all for $280!! He also said that if the pipe was cracked and needed to be replaced, they could replace it for $2900. Needless to say we will not be using or recommending The Fair Plumbers. read more

Terrible customer service. I first called to see how much a sanitary video was and I got a solid price of $259. I said ok great let me finalize and call back. I called back 20min later and said ok we are going with you. It was an additional $150 which we already agreed on the first call I would pull the permit but he wanted to charge me $150 just to put his name on the permit. The first call he said he was ok with me taking care of the permit. He then wanted a company letter head of mine and get it notarized saying I wasn't going to use them for the inside work. Ron then demanded the village give him an exact time and not a window to be out there with the inspector. Everyone knows that you have no control over exact times and it's typical to get a window. What a joke this place is. I am an Architectural Designer and I could never imagine treating customers or people like this. We had a serious issue with our tub faucet. The inner bolt had broken and water was pouring out of both the faucet and the opening of where the faucet handle had been attached. Rolando was at our home within an hour on a Sunday. The repair required him to drill out the entire center of the cylinder without damaging the outside casing. Not an easy fix but he persisted and was able to fix it as new. It was an emergency call so not inexpensive but the service was great! read more

The fair plumber, Ron, claims to be a licensed electrician. He brought 2 people with him to do some plumbing and electrical work. The 2 gentlemen under obviously had never done electrical before and Ron was trying to teach them on my time and with my electrical outlets. During this time, Ron left numerous times so the gentlemen were not being monitored or instructed. So, there were plenty of sparks and fuses being blown as they tried to figure out how to install a gfi and how to ground ungrounded outlets. This is basic stuff for any electrician. After I complained, Ron decided to stick around and do the work himself. We ended up having to hire another electrician to fix his work. Do not use this company! read more

Fair Plumbers' owner Ron gave us the lowest estimate and completed it with satisfactory result. Later on when we have problem with our AC,again, Ron and his crews fixed it for us with very low price.
