I was not prepared for the wait at this place. The food was very good but the service was a bit slow, even after we were finally seated. We were here from out of town so there is probably a learning curve since I was told by others waiting that it was typical. Not sure I would come again unless there is a better day/time. read more

First time here. Read all the great reviews & went for the Prime Ribeye special. 1/3 of the steak was not edible. A lot of sinew and what was edible was not prime. Tasty but chewy. Not worth any where near the $40.00 price tag. I've had much better steaks at Outback. The seven layer salad, snap peas & fried potatoes were all superb. The place was busy but we thought the server could have been a little more attentive. read more

I was very impatient because the restaurant was so busy and we waited over an hour (mid week). However, the service was excellent, our steaks were all cooked to the correct temperatures (4 of us ordered steak, all different cooks of course) and very tasty! This was one of the two best meals on our weeklong trip to Door County and then SE Wisconsin. It's tucked back behind buildings in a very unlikely location so would be easy to miss - I'm glad we didn't. My friend had the Cobb Salad with Tenderloin and we couldn't believe how huge it was - a bowl about 16" across. She said the steak was excellent (as well as the salad). I had the tenderloin with their smashed garlic glaze and it was done perfectly (med. rare) and was tender and tasty. Their hand cut french fries are in a class by themselves! Also the 7 layer salad before my main course was huge and the dressing was light & perfect. My daughter had the BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich which was also very large, piping hot, and just the right amount of tang in the sauce. We got there between 5 and 5:30 and got right in, but an hour later it was full - with good reason. Service was great. I would come back here in a heartbeat! read more

Farmstead in my opinion is all hype, I was served canned mushrooms on my "so called" Cajun Fish. Couldn't an establishment with this much bravado manage to use fresh mushrooms? The whole entree was a huge disappointment and I could have gotten over the mushroom debacle if the fish had been seasoned with a wonderful cajun spice. Instead, my meal was tasteless, boring and bland As I noticed the dissatisfied look on my friend's face, she asked, ''where are the 7 layers on my salad"? Yeah, the layers were there alright, but the scarce amount of ingredients did not warrant the grandiose description on the menu. I had to laugh when she stated she felt as if she had eaten a big bucket of cheap Bibb lettuce for dinner. read more

Want to the farmstead for the very 1st time on a Saturday evening . The place was a little difficult to find but was well worth the hunt. The inside was very beautifully done and very charming. Met the owner who I found to be a very sweet and caring woman. All the wait staff were very friendly. I found the food exquisite! I cannot wait to go back. I love that the menu is small because I always believed you do not need a big menu when the food you make is that good. I am a food snob like no other. This place is amazing. The food, the wine (glasses are too small but good price) and the service is amazing! Our server was Kelly and she was on point! Simply the Best! You won't find a more flavorful and consistently-excellent food anywhere else, period. Ten times the flavor and quality of a Bartolotta restaurant at half the price. Ask for the off-menu garlic glaze to your filet...fantastic. If you're not in the mood for a steak, the walleye is amazing. The historic atmosphere inside is old world country with farm implements and signs adorning the walls and wagon wheels as chandeliers. Hard to notice and doesn't look like a restaurant from the outside. Best kept food secret in the Milwaukee area. If you want value, quality with taste and a cozy atmosphere, this is the place but come early or late as they don't take reservations and the place gets packed. read more

Alright, so I've had the farm bites before and thought they were great but tonight I got the full treatment and it was even better! Farm bites are a must here and they are fantastic. Great meat and tender with the right amount of snap from that pickle. Next the steak with the garlic smash is awesome. Tons of flavor and cooked just right. The potatoes are equally amazing. We got there early and glad we did seeing it filled up quick. By 6 there was over half an hour wait and the bar was packed. Honestly waiting in the parking lot for 20 mins before they opened was worth it and there were 5 other cars besides us there already. The service was great and had a family, laid back vibe to the place. We couldn't muster room for desert however it looks amazing and again had the banana chocolate cake before outside of the place and it rocked. We'll be back because honestly you can't beat the quality for the price point. read more

My favorite Cedarburg restaurant. It's hidden off the main road, but well worth the find. I came here for the first time with a gift card and recommendation from a friend. The Caesar Salad is outstanding, but if you order it, go with someone who wants a sandwich so you can nibble on some of their hand cut fries. The triple chocolate mousse cake is worth the calories and we've been known to take a few slices to go! The servers are also very kind and sweet. read more

This is the only restaurant I will ever order steak in, EVER AGAIN. It's about 1/3 the price of a Ruth's Chris or Morton's steak house. The sugar snap peas and garlic mash potatoes are out of this world. There are only about 15 tables in the restaurant. The wait can be up to 2 hrs on a weekend, but it can be fun meeting other regulars in the tiny bar area! read more

We have been there several times and hope it's better the next time. It never is. The wait staff is very unhappy and it shows with the service and their lack of smiles. The food is so over priced for what it is. The garlic glaze turns the steak into meat flavored salt. Save your money and go to Applebee's their better and much less expensive. I have been coming to this place since I was a kid with my grandpa back in early 90's. When people say good things change with time, those people are wrong. This spot is still a gem. We were looking for a house in area so we stopped for a burger during lunch. It's not farm to table, but the burger is 99/100. During our two month stay in the area, we visited 4 times. Each time was great. I'm a filet mignon fan and they do it well here. Do yourself a favor and just order it plain or with some butter, the meat is prepared well. All the other up charges aren't needed. The mashed potatoes are solid and the fries are pretty good. I never ordered the haystack onion rings but they are excellent from what others told me. Be prepared to wait at least a 1/2 hour for a table, but that's part of the experience. You can't go wrong with an old fashioned. If you like beer make sure you order the Belhaven. You won't be disappointed. read more

We went to the Farmstead last weekend. I loved the atmosphere. The decor is very unique. The food was good, the portions were very generous. I wanted their BBQ ribs, but they were out of it. My steak was ok, I have eaten better, so I would not order it again. The price was good. The staff was very friendly. My husband and I live in Milwaukee and drove up to Cedarburg for a little weekend away this past spring. We had a lovely time there and the farmstead was no exception. The atmosphere is delightful and the food was amazing. We had the surf and turf - the surf being crab legs. We opted to go without the garlic preparation because I had read it was salty, and our waitress said if we didn't like salt we should probably avoid it. The steak was still delicious. Everything was just perfection and the garlic mashed potatoes are unforgettable. We had good service both at the bar and from our waitress, Angie. I would recommend and will definitely go back if we make our way up to Cedarburg again. read more

My all-time favorite restaurant. Better steak than any over-priced Chicago steak house. The garlic filet is outstanding, delicious and reasonably-priced served with the best buttery mashed potatoes you'll ever eat. The Caesar salad is a must, the dressing is not too heavy and the lettuce quality is consistently good. For dessert I always order the key lime pie, and eat the whole piece. Get there right as they open or you'll have to wait, the place is small and cozy so it fills up quickly. read more

I've lived in cedarburg for 7 years and moving out of state soon. The Farnmstead is the ONLY food I'll miss about WI and would make a point of getting on a return visit. Farm Bites are in the top 3 of all appetizers I've ever had. I travel the US on business btw. This place should be on anyone restaurant bucket list. The Binkleman steak is also highly recommended. Yeah you often have a long wait but like the others said, it's worth it. Have a cocktail and some converstaion and whet your appetite. read more

Not only was this the coolest little Steakhouse (Literally a house) But it was the best steak I have ever had. The Tenderloin Appetizer on top of the garlic crostini topped with a pickle was the absolute best. Words cannot even describe the natural flavor of the 22 or so once Bone-in-Ribeye. I actually order it with melted blue cheese crumbles on top which had my mouth watering with every bite. After devouring the appetizer, I could only eat about 1/2 the Ribeye. The ambiance is a very old traditional mid-west, home-style restaurant with dimmed lighting. Even the name of the place is absolutely appealing. This is the perfect place for a date or just to hang out with friends and family. Pretty small, tight, but I have never seen such a gorgeous, quaint type of restaurant. You just have to go here if you are ever in the Milwaukee area. I actually got to meet Jared the Chef and thanked him for the best steak I have ever had. He was really cool and very appreciative of someone asking to meet the chef. Not sure how often that happens to him, but if you go there, make sure to say hi to him. So if anyone like myself love the steaks at LA Prime in Los Angeles, Perry's Steakhouse and Grille in Austin, Durants in Phoenix, etc, then you will be blown away and put this place at the top of your list of Steakhouses across the country. read more

Ermagehrd. The sirloin at The Farmstead is TO. DIE. FOR. My husband and I come to Cedarburg once a year to get away for a night or two, and The Farmstead is must stop. I'm not even a steak person and I dream about the sirloin all year. Yes, it is a pricey restaurant (the sirloin is $28ish) but the food is worth it. The portions are big enough that my husband and I, who are both big eaters, can split a plate and leave comfortably full. The decor isn't anything special, but the staff is friendly and they don't put on pretenses - come as you are. Bob and Pam made the 40 minute wait go by so fast. Honestly one of the best fish dinners I ever have have the pleasure of eating. The walleye was perfectly cook sitting beside the perfect sides. I LOVE Farmstead. Great food, GREAT service, great ambiance. Seriously, the people that work there treat you like you are family. The only negative thing is that you have to wait a while to be seated, but that is only because they are so awesome that literally the minute they open there is a line out the door. I am moving this up to 5 stars since my last review last summer. Since first going there, the experience continues to get better. I am pretty sure we are considered "regulars" when we know most names there and it feels a bit more like "Cheers" when we go, but thats what is great about it.
