What it has going for it: - great decor - good portions - outdoor seating - food was tasty and not bland - staff very friendly - pricing on par with similar establishments What it has going against it: - no private parking - bathrooms outside of restaurant So this place is owned by some Maine transplants that have been living in the area for awhile. There menu is pretty simple and not over complicated. I had the lamb flatbread on the lunch menu. Very tasty, perfect portion size for lunch. Came here after a day of Skiing and the menu choices were varied from Curries to Ramen to Stuffed Portobellos.... I had the PorK Belly app with was ridiculously good...Think Teriyaki meets Spicey Korean BBQ...Then a half order of the Brussel Sprouts witch they deep fry and toss with chili flakes,basalmic vinegar and some other spices,also delicious and chose the Mushroom Gnocchi as my main...savory and cooked perfectly....not to mention fantastic service and it was a 5 star ending to a five star day on the slopes! read more

So far we have been here 3 times (twice with different friends) and we have been very pleased with full tummies every time. Service is always spot on. Staff is knowledgeable, courteous, polite, & friendly. They greet you as soon as you walk in, explain the different beer profiles of the beers on tap, and what the daily specials are. So far we have had- Duck Tacos, Cold Ramen Salad, Cauliflower Tacos, Fish Sandwich, Spicy Pickled Eggs, Smoked Chicken Grilled Cheese Sandwich, and Roasted Beet Salad. Since we've had so many things, hard to describe each one individually. However, everything is made fresh. Even their hot sauces, which we bought the green jalapeño one to take home. We were told to go here by one of our favorite servers at MickDuff's he said the food and service was amazing. The service was amazing we were seated right away and our waitress was very friendly so was the bar staff upon our arrival. But once we were seated and given menus we quickly noticed that things were quite spendy, while reading over the menu we began chatting with a very nice couple sitting at a table near ours while chatting with them their food was delivered and the portions were very tiny and they agreed. Me and my husband made the mutual agreement to leave. I have never gotten up and left from a restaurant ever and I felt bad but I could not see paying $24+ for a small portion. Two stars for the great staff. Servers and bartenders are great. Menu looks good, but execution is awful. The duck nachos are served on a bed of tortilla chip crumbs that look like someone jumped up and down on them. Risotto was so over cooked and dry, you could set bricks with it. We stopped in for dinner, and oh my goodness. First we are a family with lots of dietary restrictions, vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy free. My husband got the cod, he said it was amazing, I got the cauliflower bang bang salad-crunchy goodness, perfectly seasoned, delicious. But here is the real story, they totally catered to my daughter's gluten/dairy free needs and made the most amazing tofu bahn mi sandwich. The first time we tried TFP was at a food event downtown. They had some type of duck taco and while I didn't know what to expect, I was happily surprised that it was melt in your mouth, give you the warm and fuzzies, good. We've been back in on a couple of different occasions and the food is consistently delicious. Their burger is possibly the best you'll find in Sandpoint (which is saying something, because we have some GOOD BURGERS!), and the environment is mellow, yet fun. The Fat Pig burger was boring, corned beef sandwich was dry and the corned beef was old. The mac and cheese was great and the shrimp and arugula salad was pretty good. Finally stopped in to try this place with the GF. Pretty good food and a nice change for Sandpoint - We shared the Pork Belly appetizers which was awesome and I had the Mediterranean Chicken Kabob as my entree. Cooked perfectly and great flavor. Why did I take a flyer on the meatloaf special at a restaurant called The Fat Pig? Missing (not missed) was the ketchup glaze that typically adorns this dish. It was a revelation of an almost airy loaf, no where close to the dense bricks that usually land on your blue plate. It was accompanied by whipped potatoes and a wild mushroom demiglace and grilled broccolini, perfectly done. Wow! I tried a white wine that just landed on the BTG list as with the wild mushrooms, a Pecorino from Italy's Abruzzo region. It paired nicely but so would many of their many beers on tap. My pick was on point but now I'll just have to come back a few times before the menu changes for the spring to try the other items that caught my eye. read more

This place even though the name beings visions of BBQ to the front of your mind, isn't a bbq joint. What it is, is a great little place to grab some food and have great conversations. I really hate writing a negative review, but this place was confusing. The logo shows a culinary outline of pork - like the cuts of meat, and the place is called The Fat Pig. I guess this led us to we expect more charcuterie, and/or a focus on pork and meats, but the menu didn't reflect that. Pros: the ambience is very relaxed and chic. Indoor and outdoor seating. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. We were greeted with energy and the server was super. They had an interesting selection of beer, and we were allowed a taste prior to ordering. Had the pate, and it was delicious, very well seasoned - homemade biscuits to go with were delicious, too. Cons: The menu is all over the place - with a variety of cuisine, maybe so much that they need to make a decision? My partner ordered the pappardelle (spelling?) for dinner, and while it was very tasty, and I think the noodles were house made, the meal would probably benefit from a little side of something green. The portion was about the size of a small cereal bowl. I get that this is enough food, really, but didn't satiate my man, and didn't feel balanced. I ordered the appetizer scallops for dinner which is probably the worst meal I've every been served. While that might sound mean, the scallops were perfectly cooked - which means they were delightfully tender and soft. But then it was plated on top of mashed potatoes. UCK. Soft on top of soft was not good. The potato flavor overwhelmed the scallops . It was a confusing mushy mess. I generally don't return food, but I should have returned this one. Another reviewer mentioned that the place is "spendy". We don't mind that price point, but the entire experience didn't match. I REALLY wanted to at least give this place 3 stars, but "meh- I've had better" really sums it up for us. Makes me sad, because the staff is awesome, and there's a lot of good happening. read more

The food wasn't bad, for the price it wasn't outstanding either. We just moved to town and heard mixed reviews. The service really was awful though. We had three little kids in tow and the server loved chatting up other tables, but never checked on us, never refilled drinks and rolled her eyes when I pointed out a problem with one of our meals. She was so rude I was floored, especially with how friendly and nice we were attempting to be. While the fries were very good, the burgers were bone dry. My portobello dish was so strange with weird textures and no coherent flavor. It's like they just drowned it in tomato sauce and black beans without trying to highlight how good those mushrooms are. Very novice cooking. I almost always tip above 20% but could not justify tipping more than 10% with how rude and inattentive her service was. We definitely will not be back. read more

Overpriced, small portions and food was not good on top of it. My husband had the Trip tip, tiny dried up meat with three tiny red potatoes and 3 asparagus - $24. I had the Shrimp and garlic noodles and it had 4 shrimp in it, flavor was not good - $22. Another in our party had the Salmon & Vegi Gnocchi, not much salmon or vegis mostly gnocchi and she complained of it being very salty - $23. Udon noodle bowl, too sweet $19. None at our table left happy. If you're interested in a good atmosphere for Appetizers and beer this place might work....verdict is still out. Find dinner somewhere else. read more
