We spent the weekend in Sandpoint for our 35 anniversary. Went here for our celebration night out. Great choice by chance. We did not know about this little gem. Very unique inside with lots of tucked away booths and cubby's. Nice friendly service. Lots to choose from on the menu. We had the tenderloin ( which was huge) with seafood medley (on the special menu). Came with choice of potato and a huge pile of yummy green beans. Lots of food. You won't go hungry. To top it off our server brought us a complimentary mud pie dessert in celebration of our anniversary. It was huge!!! And delicious too. I've never felt the need to write a review until now. Last night was the absolute worst steak my wife and I have ever had in our life. We have been to many, many steakhouses. Unfortunately, we were having dinner there for our 30th anniversary. She ordered the filet mignon and I ordered the peppercorn New York. Both were ordered medium, and they both came out well done, like leather. Mine had one hint of redness in one spot, so I decided to go ahead and eat it. Her filet was $57, and there was no way I was going to pay that for leather. We sent it back, and by the time I had finished what I was going to eat of mine, hers came back out. This time the center was basically raw, and the outer surface was again overdone, like leather. I don't know how anyone can possibly cook a steak this bad. It would take a lot of effort. I don't know if it was because it was Memorial Day and the regular cooks were off. Let's hope that's the case, but I'm definitely not giving them another chance. I dropped $150 on the worst steak ever. It'd be one thing if they were selling something else and happened to also make a steak, but in this case they described themselves as a steakhouse. I would definitely not give them your money. By the way, the ambience wasn't great either, and to think we drove quite a ways to get there for that dinner. Two thumbs down. read more

Confused by the five-star reviews of this place. This was our second time here (we gave it another chance) and our last. Our booth had holes in the fabric and was next to the cobweb-decorated window where we froze our butts off right under the A/C. When we complained they said "sorry, we know this is the coldest booth in the restaurant." No offer to move us. Cobwebs on all of the window corners like it hasn't been cleaned in months - the pic does NOT do it justice. Gross! My $54 (approx 1 inch thick) filet mignon came medium instead of medium-rare, and my mom's top sirloin, which she ordered "medium", came medium-rare. We were both disappointed. A steak house should do this one thing right (especially at 5 p.m. - not even a busy hour.) I have to point out the price of the filet, because at Ruth's Chris, a "real" top steak house, they charge $54 for the same size filet in a nicer, cleaner environment with much better food! Customer service was subpar, as empty salad dishes were still on the table when the dinner plates were dropped and we waited for drink refills. The mud pie was delicious, although we almost left to get ice cream down the street to just leave the restaurant. We won't be back. read more

We were in town for a couple days and the Hydra looked promising. The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly from the moment you step across the threshold. Our server was thoroughly familiar with the wine list and menu. We started with a bottle of Veuve Cliquot. We each enjoyed a Ceasar Salad with the house bread. They were very good. Our main course was ribeye steaks with mashed potato and green beans. Everything was tasty. You can't do better than a good waiter, ice cold champagne and a well- prepared meal. Saturday, July 5th - Party of 5 We had dinner at Hydra Steakhouse and it was an incredible experience from start to finish. We ordered cheese curds for the table and we all had different drinks from the bar-everything was made strong & delicious! Our group ordered two ribeyes, a chicken Oscar, a prime rib royal style and a New York steak--and every single dish was cooked perfectly. Sides were green beans, loaded baked potatos, rice, salad. Steaks& prime rib were seasoned just right and had amazing flavor. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. We spent about $100/person. It was absolutely worth every penny. We left full, happy, and already looking forward to our next visit. Next time we're in Sandpoint, we'll definitely be back!! Steak knives are old and dull (tried 2) which then doesn't help when your meat is tough and chewy and under seasoned. I read Snake River Beef, BUT the New York Strip and the Prime Rib were DEFINITELY NOT. Wanted to love this place BUT very disappointed. Easy fixes...update plates or serve the sides on separate smaller plates, better quality steak knives (especially for a steakhouse) and for the prices being charged don't use CHOICE cuts. The waiter recommended me Jalapeño Burger, and that was pretty good, but the bacon was a little bit burnt. Very good quality ingredients, fresh veggies, juice meat, but the French fries were weird. They use something like Doughnut powder, and that may not be to everyone's liking. 6.5/10 Pineapple juice was great, I like that one Good service, i can give strong 8.5/10 for it. We are on a 3 week adventure through the Northwest states. We were starving after a long day of adventures and wanted to try somewhere close to our Air B&Band not a chain, something local. We found The Hydra online and just went with it and hoped for the best. The Hydra is a cute little fancy steakhouse. The inside was lovely. The waiter was fantastic! The food- absolutely delicious. Portion sizes were HUGE. We didn't order dessert but two other tables near us did and the slices were ginormous. The food here is always so good. The steaks are amazing and some of the best in north Idaho! We travel from Coeur d'Alene just for their steaks. They use tallow to cook their fries! So yummy. On a whim, because we visited my mil in the rehabilitation hospital, we looked up places to dine in at. We had the cheese curds for appetizer. The best cheese curds I've had anywhere!! And, we've tried them at many places too. I had the special of a large prime rib with buttered sun dried tomato shrimp. Oh my!! When I tell you this is one of the best prime ribs I've ever tasted, I am telling you this was tasty, seasoned perfectly, and cooked to perfection!!! We are here picking up our service dog and happened to be celebrating our 34 anniversary. They gave us a cozy booth with cute decor and a real candle! I had the huckleberry moscato which was refreshing after a LONG hot day. Delicious food with HUGE PORTIONS! We had the prime rib sandwich with fries and shrimp pesto pasta with garlic bread. Awesome service by Makayla! She checked in often and made sure we had everything we needed. The hostess was super helpful and friendly, as was the whole staff. We loved the cute, funky decor too! What a great experience. A local recommended this for their awesome prime rib. The venue is unique- lots of little rooms, semi-private booths, curtained tables. Fabulous custom cocktails. The Huckleberry tea was awesome! I love that they feature Litehouse products. We had the cheese curds. Really great. Excellent service by Jim. Jalapeno Bacon Burger was very good. They use fresh jalapenos and they were VERY soicy. Still,, overall it was a good burger. The included fries were good as well. Their Rib Eye steak was excellent. Seared Ahi Tuna was very nice. Blue Cheese burgers were good. Kids menu is nice. Their kids cheesy noodles were liked.
