We spent the weekend in Sandpoint for our 35 anniversary. Went here for our celebration night out. Great choice by chance. We did not know about this little gem. Very unique inside with lots of tucked away booths and cubby's. Nice friendly service. Lots to choose from on the menu. We had the tenderloin ( which was huge) with seafood medley (on the special menu). Came with choice of potato and a huge pile of yummy green beans. Lots of food. You won't go hungry. To top it off our server brought us a complimentary mud pie dessert in celebration of our anniversary. It was huge!!! And delicious too. We had a very nice time and highly recommend stopping in here for a great meal.

My first time at The Hydra, and definitely impressed! The vibe when you enter is warm and welcoming, the staff are all professional + extremely kind and the food was excellent! The Hydra Steak salad was incredible as was the spinach artichoke!!! The Salad was a super healthy choice but the spinach artichoke is a must-try

Month's old cobwebs in the window sill!

Confused by the five-star reviews of this place. This was our second time here (we gave it another chance) and our last. Our booth had holes in the fabric and was next to the cobweb-decorated window where we froze our butts off right under the A/C. When we complained they said "sorry, we know this is the coldest booth in the restaurant." No offer to move us. Cobwebs on all of the window corners like it hasn't been cleaned in months - the pic does NOT do it justice. Gross! My $54 (approx 1 inch thick) filet mignon came medium instead of medium-rare, and my mom's top sirloin, which she ordered "medium", came medium-rare. We were both disappointed. A steak house should do this one thing right (especially at 5 p.m. - not even a busy hour.) I have to point out the price of the filet, because at Ruth's Chris, a "real" top steak house, they charge $54 for the same size filet in a nicer, cleaner environment with much better food! Customer service was subpar, as empty salad dishes were still on the table when the dinner plates were dropped and we waited for drink refills. The mud pie was delicious, although we almost left to get ice cream down the street to just leave the restaurant. We won't be back.

The Hydra is good but this wasn't its best effort. I had the prime rib for 42 bucks. It was a good thirty percent fat and the flavor was just ok. I had high hopes for it based on the menu description but this just didn't live up to it.

We were in town for a couple days and the Hydra looked promising. The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly from the moment you step across the threshold. Our server was thoroughly familiar with the wine list and menu. We started with a bottle of Veuve Cliquot. We each enjoyed a Ceasar Salad with the house bread. They were very good. Our main course was ribeye steaks with mashed potato and green beans. Everything was tasty. You can't do better than a good waiter, ice cold champagne and a well- prepared meal. The evening was relaxed and seemed to fly by. Treat yourself!

This was a very nice quaint restaurant/bar . The service was great ,everyone was very friendly. The food was delicious. We really enjoyed our meal and did not feel rushed . I highly recommend stopping in it's definitely worth the money and was not too expensive. You get your moneys worth !

Steak was great! Exactly what I was expecting and wanted. Medium rare , cooked perfectly. Cool old house turned into a restaurant vibe that was really cool. Every room is different. Received our food very quickly too.

What a grand find! We wanted to treat our British family to a good American steak and found it here! The ambiance, the serve and the food were all amazing!

Steak hydra salad... $25!! Tasted good, but skimpy on meat.

Delicious food and impeccable service! We live over 300 miles away, but always make a point of eating at the Hydra when we're in Sandpoint!

We were both warmly greeted right away and offered that cold drink we were both seeking. Our bartender, Slade, was very friendly and brought us warm foccacia bread with drizzled huckleberry sauce on it. We ordered the steak satay which was wonderfully marinated and soft enough to melt in your mouth - delicious. The foccaia bread was worth the trip alone. Slade was being assisted by Selene, behind the bar, who must have overheard us talking about taking the Foccacia bread home and immediately went into action preparing it for travel with a little extra huckleberry sauce for the road. Fabulous place, great surroundings and friendly staff - all around a great place to go.

Hostess then arrived and got us seated right away despite it being a bustling night. GREAT ambience - lively but not loud - no need to raise voice to talk with your party. Server came out promptly and took great care of us. My sister got the Jasmine and it was as great tasting as it was beautiful - tart, so if you like tart drinks get it and don't think twice. The Focaccia Bread WITH the steamer clams was a great appetizer (soak the bread in the tomato juice!) and the entrees were SO GOOD. The Chilean Sea Bass was PERFECTLY cooked and was up there in the best we've ever had. The pesto gnocchi + squash it rested on was delightful and the perfect combination. The Peruvian Chicken was ALSO perfectly cooked and its sauce was to die for. The potatoes that went along with were salted just right. Great great great, highly recommend whether you're having dinner or going to the bar with a friend for a LIVELY kind of experience

The staff is lively and friendly - no surprise - and service is FAST. My espresso was prepped & handed to me before I even clicked on the "Tip Amount" on the card reader -- if on purpose, brilliant, if not, certainly made it an easy decision to tip generously. The baked goods perched in window at the front counter - between croissants, banana bread, tarts, cheesecakes,... - are beautifully crafted and tempt even the LEAST sweet tooth's of us. They have an EXTENSIVE list of crepes (both savory and sweet options) and sandwiches, so if you come for a grind session, you have plenty of (seemingly tasty) food options to choose from. Prices...$2.75 for a double espresso is a deal, especially at a well-staffed / newly(?) renovated / luxury coffee establishment such as this. They really could raise their price two-fold and I'd still be happy (at least coming from Californian like myself). My espresso was served hot but not burned, with low acid beans which contained an obvious LACK of mycotoxins & mold (at least based on my amateur judgement; I am a good judge, though, as I am extremely sensitive with coffee beans). So with that said, if you are sensitive and need high quality coffee beans, do what I do and make Bernklau your morning coffee spot if you are staying or live in the area. A+ all around. Kudos to the owner/manager and kudos to the staff.
