I need to start this review by emphasizing the fact that my grilled chicken sandwich was really, really, really good! I mean absolutely delicious! It was tender, juicy, flavorful grilled chicken on fresh bread with some absolutely kicking honey mustard. I will 100% go back to this place because The sandwich was near perfection. That being said, the service was seriously subpar. By that I mean, both slow and particularly unwelcoming. In addition, I feel the need to mention that we chose to stay there to eat, and both the tables and the salt and pepper shakers were absolutely filthy. So, despite the fact that it wasn't a perfect experience... their menu is really extensive and the food is delicious, so I'm sure we'll visit again sometime! Cute store with good sandwiches. It reminds me of a gas station but with better items. We tried the italiano grinder, turkey ham bacon club sub and the chicken bacon wrap. Happy with them! The italiano was good I just wasn't crazy about the bread and I'd add spicy brown mustard and extra cheese next time. The turkey ham bacon grinder was good just needed pickles (which I added at home) and the chicken bacon wrap was perfect. Service was a young lady who was very nice in store. Also! I spontaneously came in for a late lunch. The Country Store reminded me of NYC bodegas given its products, set-up, and deli counter. While there aren't a lot of prepared foods to go, the sandwich menu is definitely vast. It was hard to choose a sandwich to get. I ultimately got the Spinach and Chicken wrap ($7.99) and Reuben ($7.49). They were done in a jiffy. When I brought both home, I was really, really surprised by how good they were. Both were a bit warm and had a good mayo or sauce. The Spinach and Chicken wrap was especially good. The chicken was moist, and the sandwich included some bacon. Nice touch! Prices are insane since this store fell to new ownership. A trend we have seen since the 90s. American "mom and pop" stores and even chains are being sold off. This place great coffee. Now the coffee is weak. It tastes like hot water. The prices are high even for glastonbury. read more

The food here is good. It's a nice spot to stop in they have lots of options from sandwiches to macaroni salad, potato salad etc. My only issue is one of the girls who works here has such an attitude problem. I came in and got a sandwich and she was trying to sell me on the premade ones but when I ordered a needed to be made one her whole entire demeanor changed. She gave me so much attitude and this isn't the first time i've come in and have had an issue with her. Don't work in customer service if you can't be nice to the customer. It's hard to believe this place has been around for at least 10 years (at least since I had first moved to Glastonbury), and it only has 3 reviews. Then again, it's not in a high traffic area and really only comes off as a convenient store when it offers so much more. I used to work near here, and this place offers some of the best sandwiches around! They have a deli inside where they slice everything fresh for lunch, and you can choose just about anything you want to put on your sandwich. The menu is huge too ranging from chicken cutlets to Italian subs to big roast beef or turkey sandwiches! The employees are super friendly too and will let you know everything they have back there for your subs. My favorite is the Italian. Not only are the sandwiches great, but they're all around $7-$8 and are enormous! It's really a great deal, and they're pretty quick about cranking them out. On top of the sandwiches, this place offers a decent assortment of grocery items as well as beer! It's really a hidden gem in this area that probably only the locals know exists, but it's only about a half mile from exit 10 off route 2, so it's really easy for anyone to get to. I'm always about supporting local sandwich shops, so if you're in the area, forget about the Subway next door and check out this spot for some great sandwiches! P.S. Man, there ain't much out here when you need to make a quick coffee and beverage run for your team... [No, I'm not some brainwashed intern trying to brown-nose his way up the corporate ladder. I'm the boss; I trust my guys to do well while I leave, and get them coffee and beverages and cigarettes and whatever else they tell their slave... ahem... supervisor to fetch them.] But thank goodness for The Country Store. So while there, I grabbed what turned out to be a wonderful Kielbasa Egg & Cheese sandwich, three coffees, a bag of ice, and two Gatorades, as requested by my squad of idio-- uhm, trustworthy and intelligent employees. ;) Anyway, I didn't have my wallet on me! My truck needed to remain at the job site, so I took an employees car to the store. I thought I left my wallet back in the truck. But the guy working said, "Hey man, what you got? Wanna pay me as much as you can and then come back? I'll be here 'till 5." Wow, what a KIND offer. I gave him the $6 I had on me (out of $11.50 needed), and a verbal promise to return. ...And then I found my wallet stuck between the seat and the center console. Don't you HATE that gap? Ugh! ...And so I burst back into the store with my wallet, said "SURPRISE!" as the guy turned around in horror/confusion/relief, and paid the remainder of my bill. It's a small (quaint) country store with friendly service. A huge selection of great sandwiches. Very enjoyable and I would definitely return. Don't expect a lot of frills. I grew up going to the country store. When I was a child, my dad would take me most days to get the Dutch chocolate milk they had in stock back then. Once I was old enough I started biking there after school almost every day. That trend didn't stop as I became an adult, as I have been frequently going there my entire life and still have until this day. Sadly today was the last time I will go to the country store. I showed up about 10 minutes before closing time to quickly pick up one item; I knew they were closing soon but I was in a rush and also knew I had some time, the country store has always been convenient since it is very close to home. When I walked in, I was greeted by a newer employee, this older man who just started working there I would say within the past couple of weeks to a month. As I approached the counter he started smiling as if he was laughing/joking and told me "we're all locked up. We're closed I can't help you". Thinking he was joking because of his smile and the fact that he may have recognized me as a frequent customer, I asked him if he was serious, to which he responded with the same exact statement and added "we close at 8" at the end (he still had the same grin on his face and I felt like he was either joking or laughing at me at this point) (keep in mind this is an entire 10 minutes before they are supposed to close). I asked if he was serious one more time as I was genuinely unsure, I was honestly pretty convinced he was joking, to which he responded again with "yes we are closed" and asked me to leave with an attitude. I understand in a food service/retail environment, you need to start the closing process early in order to get out in a timely manner, but treating a customer (let alone a frequent customer) like that, seems very wrong to me and rubbed me the wrong way. There were times over the years where I would show up minutes before closing, even sometimes while they were in the process of closing, and was never turned down once; always treated with a smile and a "how is everything going". That's why I always loved the country store. It's clear to me that those days are over. It's sad because this store meant a lot to me my whole life, but after today neither I nor anybody in my family will be back. read more

Best tip I can share: This is a cash-only place. Be sure to bring enough! The Country Store is located in the same building as Lottie's Kitchen. They operate similarly to a mini-7 Eleven, but cleaner and with less merchandise. They also offer bait of all kinds, I have never had need of this so I can't comment on the selection or the quality. Prices are on the high side, but there's no competition in this end of town anyways. Sandwiches are handmade here and are yummy. Much better than Subway, which is right around the corner. They carry Hershey ice cream products, which for a Philly transplant, makes a wonderful nostalgic treat. Overall, staff are very nice and do their best to help you out. read more

The Rueben was terrific, and the woman who prepared it was friendly and open to my request - not too much dressing, and please warm the 'kraut. Sooooo good. About 7 min away from The Whole Deli 5 and worth the drive. Prices are the same but the quality is 100x better. The guy was quick, fast, and in a hurry, I was in and out in less than 10 min, and that includes the time it took me to decide what I wanted on the very extensive menu. So I read the reviews on this place, and the wife and I decided we would go there. It was clean and the staff was courteous and polite. I asked for a roast beef sandwich on toasted whole wheat with mayo and onions and a side wedge of a dill pickle. They did in fact cut the meat fresh right there in front of me and the sandwich was very tasty although it was a bit mushy and he forgot to give me the pickle wedge, which I did not bother him about. I recently visited The Country Store in a desperate search for an Italian Grinder...on a Sunday (which is pretty hard living in Connecticut!)...everything is closed! This place was open, and my fellow Yelp reviewers encouraged me to go. Firstly, everything was clean...no matter the size of a restaurant, I won't eat there if it looks dirty. They have a giant selection of sandwiches and breakfast specials...all reasonably priced. Now, the sandwich..yum. Piled high with freshly sliced italian capacola, ham, salami, and pepperoni...stuffed with fresh lettuce, tomato, EXTRA pickles (on request!) and drizzled with oil and vinegar, my craving was satisfied.
