Recently visited Florence to go to the Sea Lion Caves. We were late for lunch and hadn't been to Florence before. We ended up finding a parking spot close to the Firehouse and we had a large party so we ended up selecting them since they had 2 tables available outside and could seat us right away. We got 3 orders of the Deluxe Chowder and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. I would highly recommend their chowder. All the other orders were great and the staff was very friendly. I was pleasantly surprised by this tiny place. When we first walked in I wasn't sure that we were where we wanted to be. The restaurant was dark and had a small bar in the back with a gang of locals having drinks. However, the service was friendly and the food was fantastic. I ordered the deluxe clam chowder and the special off the board outside. The clam chowder was creamy and delicious. One of the best I've had in a long time. It was served with garlic toast and topped with cheese and fresh shrimp. The special was a penne pasta with shrimp and chicken. Excellent garlic fries. The rest is pretty good. Now the service is another thing. Nice people but just not well trained. A bit scattered. It's not just one person on the staff either. It's most of the staff. I'd say management just doesn't properly train them and most are young and inexperience. This palce is a no go......It has a good atomshere but the service and the food is awful. We walk in and it was strange, almost like a seat your self place. The the hostess/wastress/busyboy show us to our seats.It took about 10 minutes to take our drink order. We were the only people in the joint. We ordered the clam chowder which was really good and it was downhill from there. The food took about 50 minutes to reach our table and we ordered kid mac and cheese and it was large noddles with an alfredo sauce on it and it tasted gross. We walked in and stood where it said "please wait to be seated" for about 5min then a waitress walked by and told us to go ahead and sit wherever we liked. The place was about half full. We sat at a table for about 10min and no one came to see us. No menus, no waters. Just sat there. The service was pretty bad. I always try and give places the benefit of the doubt. Me and my fiancé decided to give this place a shot since it had outside seating for the pups. The server was humble and took our order. It took over 30 min for our meal to get to us & my water had been empty for a while. The fish sandwich was super bland and chowder was okay. I went in to pay the bill because I didn't want to wait and the server did apologize for the service. When I went inside the cooks were laughing and joking around. If your business isn't that packed and I know there are other tables waiting on food. I would stop joking around and take your job seriously because there were many unhappy customers sitting next to us. The owner should come around and see the reputation their showing. read more

Wow, I read the poor reviews and go, what the heck. My wife and I go here 2-4 times a year, we live in Eugene. The fish and chips are great, the clam chowder is some of the best and it comes piping hot. It a great lunch place. We will go there this coming weekend. pretty bad when the guitar player who just went on break comes over to buss our table. As soon as my man and I walked into this place we got such a weird vibe! There was only one waitress so everything was taking forever. I must say the food wasn't bad though. My husband I went in to enjoy the traditional fire family atmosphere. He's been a firefighter for sometime and was genuinely disappointed with the attention to detail this business has for customer service. After sitting for what felt like an eternity and watching as the 3 waitress pass us by with no interest in helping us, we decided to leave. Yes realistically it was 15-20 min waiting at the table being ignored but at some point you would think they would want our money. The place half full at most.The memorabilia on the walls were awesome and reminded us of other "fireman" bars and restaurants. The fire service and the people who do the job strive for quality customer service. This restaurant needs to go back on probation to learn how to do the job right. read more
