I went here looking for a new floor in our foyer, hall and kitchen after a leak in out laundry room. Josh greeted me and allowed me to pull out samples of Coretec . I must have looked at 50 samples. I was never pushed to make a decision are to hurry up. Josh was there to answer all my questions and gave me estimates on the different choices. I finally picked the item I wanted. Josh came out to measure my space and give me a final estimate. He was efficient and pleasant to deal with. Anytime you do any remodeling it is stressful but Josh made it a lot less stressful.

The wall was hit. It's a metal piece inside so we aren't sure how to replace this. But the crack goes up the wall.

We had floors installed in early to mid April 2025. We returned 5 boxes of materials at the time the floors were finished and have since called Tom the store manager 7 if not 8 times to ask what the credit was and when we would be refunded the money. We chose the Floor Store over a competitor down the street as they not only guaranteed their work for life for the original owner but also said they refunded extra materials and the price point was affordable. It's July 8, and in the last 5 days we were told once again that Tom is working on it and it's "hard to get the store to credit." Not only that but we had a follow up appointment scheduled today to put in new transition pieces as the ones installed are orange. The manufacturer apparently doesn't match the wood well and the new pieces are still orange in comparison to the sandy beige floors. It took Tom 5 weeks from the April install date to bring us new transition pieces and we were still not happy as they are orange. And then waited to get the appt today and the installer said he couldn't put the transition pieces in today and needed to reschedule as Tom did not bring the correct pieces let alone he didn't have tools to cut the wood! Then there's a piece in our bathroom that already separated and Tom said the installer would fix it today. Nope, he said he didn't put the floors in himself and we needed "the original installer" to come back to fix his work since that's guaranteed. it's unbelievable. The price was lower than the competitor but this is what you get. - update: I got a hold of the District manager over Tom who works in another store and from there Jennifer T. The install manager helped. By end of day we received the credit for materials returned in April and a credit for the inconvenience. We are just waiting for the original install guy to come out with new transition pieces to see if we can find a more neutral looking transition pieces into our bathrooms. The pieces are supposed to compliment not match...Tom had the nerve to email us at the end of day and say "not my usual style." And tried to say the inconvenience credit they gave us was his idea, doubt it. It took me 10 phone calls to get Jennifer and she was great, I'm betting she's the reason we got the credit. Tom didn't try to help us in 3 months time. Also turns out none of the credited materials were logged in the system in April and our reorder of transition pieces that took 5 weeks weren't logged and never ordered. And why send the guy today to install knowing he wasn't the original guy!!! Who doesn't bring tools to a job?! It was a waste of our time. Plus Tom didn't use the system to schedule the appointment and just told us this guy would show up. Apparently that's not how it works either. Weird, right? I still don't understand how they guarantee the work for lifetime but it's just the person that put the floors in? What if he quits, who comes out to do the job, Jennifer didn't answer that and that is not disclosed anywhere else. That makes no sense. I added photos of the issues we noticed after the job was done. There is a baseboard they cut and put back up in the living room that's noticeable where it was a mistake there's a chunk out of the wood. And they put a hole in the wall that isn't easy to fix, there's metal in the wall and it cracked the plaster up the pony wall by the staircase. And sadly in the main walkway in the living room they didn't mix the pattern and put 5 boards with the same print next to one another and I see it every day. It's strange looking and in the most noticeable place. These are things we noticed after we signed off the work order. The install in April had some trouble with their time frame, miscommunication, didn't show for a day and on day 1 showed up an hour and a half late and then took a lunch an hour later!! Then they tried to leave at 2 for the day while my floors were sub floor and they were going to the dump and home. They admitted they didn't bring enough material and had no intention of laying the bedroom floor on day 1- which is what Tom told us. We had to call Tom to have their boss call and tell them they needed to get the bedroom done before they left that day. We had no where to sleep, nails were everywhere and it was a subfloor. We have a dog so it's not like we could walk on the floor. It was so bizarre. They said their time frame was not what Tom had promised us... the install was 4-5 days but took 7.

The Floor Store 523 Francisco BLVD East San Rafael, CA 94901 We wished to have two rooms of carpet and one room of hardwood installed. After searching for installers we found The Floor Store advertisement in the Marin IJ offering reduced prices and no tax. I consulted Yelp.com and found several old non-complimentary reviews. My wife and I spoke to the new manager, Mr. Tom Buntin, at the San Rafael store on East Francisco Blvd and inquired about the Yelp reviews. He explained that the entire bay area company had responded to these critiques by changing its' installation scheduling process and centralizing all operations through one office. He felt decentralized scheduling had been a significant part of their less than satisfactory performance. He also informed us that the company had released several installers for poor performance and changed sales personnel and the manager at the San Rafael Store. Mr. Buntin appeared knowledgeable and sincere and displayed a "can-do" attitude. This, coupled with the price and quality of products offered, allowed us to make the decision to contract with The Floor Store. We were kept informed of the availability of products ordered from outside the area. Their installation scheduler contacted us frequently to ensure that they and we were on the same time line. The carpets and hardwood were scheduled for different days to avoid conflict. The carpet installers arrived on time on the date agreed upon. There were five men on the team willing and able to move furniture as required. I believe the installation was accomplished very efficiently and smoothly, requiring approximately three hours for the entire job. All residue was removed. The rooms were clean and orderly when the work was done. All furniture was replaced without issue. The hardwood flooring was delivered on schedule and opened to allow acclimatization. A week later the installer arrived on time on the date agreed upon with all his tools and required material. Removal of old carpeting and repair of the subflooring was accomplished without issue. The installer worked efficiently throughout the day accomplishing exactly what we desired and had planned with the sales representative. The work took one day to complete. When the installer left the area was clean, orderly and without debris. We are very satisfied with the results. I would recommend The Floor Store of San Rafael to anyone who asked for my critique. I started working with the Floor store on a complete remodel on a large home. The sales person was very nice and helpful but really struggled getting accurate pricing. They pushed back on separating the cost from room to room- and only wanted to provide a lump sum bid. This didn't allow me to make decisions on where to put more expensive carpet in certain areas. When the sales person was not in the store (and they don't check their voicemail when they are off) NO ONE in the store is willing to assist. They all must be on commission as I went to the store twice only to be told I had to wait until my rep was back in- and the manager was even there. When the initial experience is this poor, I pulled the project completely and went to Rafael floors. What took me several visits to The Floor Store and many calls- Rafael floors did in an hour. I am a superintendent of a large contracting firm in San Francisco. I was overseeing a small project at the owners home. The homeowner was provided floor samples from the floor store in San Rafael. The samples were for a small flooring job in the house. I personally called the manager 5-6 times saying we wanted to have someone come measure and provide a quote. I was never called back. The homeowner went to the store with the samples she selected and was working with a different sales person. I called this sales person and he came and measured the job, provided a quote and we were under way. The installation date was scheduled over a week in advance. They came with the wrong material. The entire laundry room was covered with the adhesive and the job was delayed. This was a Friday. A call and email was immediately sent to the sales rep and manager. How was the wrong material ordered when the exact sample they provided was physically brought back to the store for the actual selection to order the material. Later in the day the manager called and said they made a mistake ,which was not reading the entire label on the sample when placing the order, and the proper material was being expedited from LA and expected to be at their store Tuesday/Wednesday. It was stressed that the material needed to be installed by the end of Thursday. Phone calls were made confirming "expedited" delivery of the material. It arrived late Wednesday according to the manager and he was waiting for a phone call back from his installation dept. I had to call again to find no installers were available that week. I then called the manager again stressing to him that I shouldn't be calling him when they need to fix their mistake and it needs to be fixed now. This went on thru Thursday. Finally a callback saying he found another installer and they would be out late Friday. They came and did a good job but had no rubber base or a transition strip for the doorway. A phone call to the non existent sales rep was made since he said he would provide this. He never called back. Texts to the manager went on about it as well to no avail. A week later he texted saying he thought his installation crew took care of it the previous week while he was gone. I bought rubber base and installed it myself during this and the transition strip was finally installed after 2 days of back and forth and when someone could drive by to glue it down. We had purchased floors from this store several years ago and were happy, so we tried them again. Unfortunately, their customer service has not been good this time. We scheduled floor installation on a tight timeframe, with painters coming after the floors were scheduled to be done. The Floor Store's installers ran out of base boards and trim necessary to complete the job (because the store had measured incorrectly) and left promising to come back the next day. They didn't. When we called to find out where the workers were, the store said they didn't have time to send anyone out but would send someone in a few days. When we complained that this impacted our other work, they had someone come dump a pile of base boards at our front door and leave. When we called for an explanation, they once again said they didn't have time for us and would send someone to install when they had time. Not even an apology, and definitely no effort to do a good job. How disappointing. read more

When I went to Rafael Floors and spoke with Robert Gomez, I was really impressed with his knowledge about flooring and carpeting. It was obvious he had decades of experience. I told him what I was looking for, and he answered a bunch of questions I had about carpet, quality, and the selection. I went home with several samples to check out how they looked in the different light throughout the day. After looking at the samples in my place for a week, I found the perfect carpet and color I wanted. Robert came over for measurements and an estimate. Everything had gone smoothly and professional to this point where in other places there were flags that would stop me cold, and I would stop the process and move on. The whole selection and purchase process with Robert went smoothly, and they were ready to install the carpet before I was because I had some painting that needed to be done, and I had to delay them several times. When I was finally ready, Juan and Douglas arrived on time to install the carpet. It was a two-day process, and I was really impressed how methodical they were. It was like they were putting together a puzzle they were really familiar with and each part was being sized and put in its place. I later found out that Rafael Floors has a lengthy training process for their installers that takes years. It starts with a 5-year apprentice program where they work under a journeyman installer before they can go out to install a carpet. Juan described to me what a momentous and serious occasion it was after 5 years to finally have a project of his own and being responsible for all the materials and making the customer happy. They did a perfect job and I was one happy customer. That was 3 months ago and I wanted to be sure that others would see my review like I saw others' so they would know what I know about Rafael Floors. We had gone to so many other stores and were disappointed with the service and the price of everything we were interested in . Gary knew what we were looking for and worked with us to find the best flooring for our house, and went above and beyond to get us the *best deal on the product we wanted. He was knowledgeable about all of the different types of hardwood flooring, and walked us through different scenarios with each type of wood, etc., and just gave us over the top service. We also had a very tight/difficult timeline to work with too, and Gary worked his magic to make sure our product came in on time and was able to be installed on the exact day we needed it to be. Although I wasn't part of the buying team to choose carpet for the balcony and stairway at our church, as office administrator I was the one setting up the installation. I can't say enough about how Rafael, the installer for our carpet, went out of his way to do a great job. To start off with, he was working on his own and managed to move a number of heavy pews out of the way by himself so he could do the installation. Then when one of the benches turned out to be bolted to the balcony rail and we did not have the correct tool to undo it, he went out on a search to find one and managed to get it unbolted. My whole house is covered in Floor Store floors - rustic terra cotta tiles in the great room and bathroom, a faux wood floor in the kitchen, and engineered wood throughout the rest of the house - and I love every bit of it! Throughout the process of "remodeling" my floors, Chris Lyon was incredibly helpful as I "tried on" lots of samples and endlessly patient as I changed my mind numerous times. The final above and beyond was when Chris went to great lengths to provide the extra few pieces of floor at no charge when I decided to move my floor to ceiling pantry and didn't have enough spare floor to cover the bare spot. I recently had major water damage in one of my rental homes in Kent field. I went to 4 stores in San Rafael looking for quality wool carpeting to measure up to what had been damaged. I was disappointed in both the selection and service I endured until I stopped by the Floor Store. The selection of beautiful wools was just what I wanted and priced fairly. I had the luck of being assisted by Nina, who having been in the business for over 20 years knew exactly what to show me to make a tedious choice easy. Wanted to do an DIY "economy" tile upgrade in our guest bath. Floor Store listened and guided us to a rack and said these are all between $3 & $4 per square foot. Perfect. We narrowed it to 3 samples, paid a deposit took them home to view in the room they would be installed in. Found the right one - ordered and they called us when they were in. I tried to do some "fancy" cuts and broke some of the "spare" tiles and ultimately ended up ONE tile short. Floor store went the extra mile and found us one at NO CHARGE. My husband and I were greatly impressed with the great customer service we received from the start of our search for floors through the installation. David Ramsey was very knowledgeable, helpful and patient as we selected the best floors for our home. The installers, Oscar and Alfredo were very skilled, considerate and worked consistently and efficiently while installing our floors. I purchased both hardwood flooring and carpet. Although the products I selected were of good quality the quality of the installation was poor and inconsistent. The installers have had to return to my home on multiple occasions to fix various problems, which they should have detected prior to leaving. It is now four months later and the work is still not complete. Management has been unreliable; promises made have yet to be kept, despite receiving my full payment. I am very disappointed in the quality of service I have received. read more

We have to say that we shopped around and by far this was the best experience we had. We didn't want to spend a fortune because we plan to remodel next year but the kitchen floor was gross. Our salesperson was Chris and he was very helpful. We got something from the back of the store for next to nothing. Someone came to see the kitchen and pointed out thing we hadn't thought of so when the actual installers came everything went smooth. The installation men were very quick and did a great job. We used Gary from the Floor Store to completely redo the flooring in our 2200 foot recently purchased home. From start to finish it was top notch; Gary in particular went the extra mile for us both in explaining the process; managing the installation, and helping correct a few minor problems during the install. The Floor Store in San Rafael was a terrific provider of our new highly engineered flooring and some new carpeting. We have used them three times over a three year span with great result. They installed in two cases and did a great job and we installed once. They were responsive when we realized we had ordered the wrong flooring and did not penalize us.
