The communication is excellent while waiting for our flooring to arrive and they even were able to deliver the product (which would not have fit in my truck as it was a big order). I have been using Tradeway as my 'go to' carpet and flooring vendor for 15 years, most recently for something relatively small but special in buying several area rugs that would be bound. This time, not a remnant but new carpeting I was looking for -- and they have a beautiful selection. (It's taken me 3 months to come to a decision. They have been totally non-pressuring!) What I love about Darrell (the Manager') and Daniel (the 'on floor' person) 1) their very informative, educating of the customer (in this case, Me) about carpeting...so you can make a truly informed decision, and then 2) their working with you to give you swatches to take home, check out...with no pressure to close the sale unless and until YOU are truly satisfied. 3) their genuine warm personas -- each just professional, personal and lovely to work with. (I've been using Tradeway for nearly 15 years, literally from when I arrived on the West Coast and needed to cover some of the floors in my Kensington home...discovering not only their wonderfully priced remnants and new flooring but these two gems of people in the process!) LOVE this place. I've been a Tradeway enthusiast for.....12 years (?) now. As anyone shopping for carpet knows, quality can be pricey. This is the beautiful gem of a compromise where you can honestly make your vision come alive without insane pricing if you have a vision and are willing to put in some time. I haven't ordered custom carpeting or flooring to be installed, but I LOVE going to check out their remnants and creating area rugs. You can sort through the rolls, find something you like, and have it bound custom to literally the square inch that you want. WHAT?! I've done four different installs this way - all beautiful pieces that just completely enhance and change the room, and that have transitioned into my next home each time. Listen to me referring to the carpet as "pieces!" but seriously, I love this place. It's a bit out there in Richmond but I've been willing to drive all over the Bay Area to get what I wanted. I always find something that will work and the pricing can't be beat. I also get my padding from here - super high quality and it LASTS. I haven't had to replace any of it in the 12 years I've been coming here, and they have pet/kid/moisture barrier padding if you need that too. Mr. Johnson and Daniel are fantastic. My husband and I had been talking for months about redoing the flooring in a hallway in our home, but one of our big obstacles was what flooring/carpeting company to go with. I am so unbelievably thankful we found Tradeway Flooring. Darryl Johnson, and his right-hand man, Daniel, were so welcoming from the day we first walked into this huge, gigantic warehouse of flooring material - everything you can imagine. Even though our hallway job was small, they helped guide us through the different types of flooring, things to consider when choosing a flooring material, and how to pick out the right color and shade of flooring based on the size and amount of light in the hallway. We were able to bring home samples and swapped these out a few times in the process of choosing just the right color/pattern/composition for our hallway. We made an appointment with the installer, Martine, who also helped guide us through what to expect. We made a date for the installation, and all went perfectly. We love our hallway floor. This place has been in existence for YEARS. I visited way back when I lived in San Pablo, almost 20 years ago, and the customer service was excellent then. When I decided to change the area carpet in my living room, I remembered how well I was treated way back when, so I went to Tradeway a couple of Saturdays ago, and I was welcomed like a member of the family! The new owner Daryl, and his experienced helper Daniel, gave me individualized attention while I took forever looking for the right size, color and texture of what I wanted. Both Daryl and Daniel told me to take my time because I shouldn't just like it, I should love it! There are two floors of carpet remnants, and full rolls of carpet that can be quite overwhelming to take in, but the quality and beauty of their products are amazing. I finally found the perfect carpet for my living room, and Daryl offered their binding services at a very reasonable price. My carpet was ready the next weekend, and Daniel tied the roll onto the roof of my car so that it didn't BUDGE all the way home to Berkeley! A lesser man may have turned back on his journey for carpet gold as he traversed the seedy side of Richmond to the mecca of carpet stores - Tradeway Carpet Outlet. As I exited the highway, I passed not one but three discarded mattresses on the side of the road - it was as if the mattresses traveled here to their death just like elephants do on the wild planes of the Serengeti. Off in the distance I think I heard a gunshot and police sirens - did that stop me? No - when you come this far for discounted carpet - there is no turning back. As I neared my destination, an old weather beaten building, a chill came over me - would this be the end of me or would I leave with luxurious carpet to tickle the feet of my family? Inside my senses were overcome with the sights of countless rolls of carpets, the smell of foam pads and the after taste of a burrito purchased earlier in the day. I was greeted by Darryl, a likable fellow who gave me the lay of the land. Any carpet could be purchased by roll, cut to size or made into a remnant - all I had to do was pick it out from their vast selection. The carpets ranged from the high-end stuff you see in magazines or posh hotels to carpets that will bring back memories of your grandmother's house or an off the strip Las Vegas casino (in my case, both). After searching the three floors of carpet - I found her under a flickering neon light. A beautiful pattern and just the right neutral tone so as not to offend any of my carpet colored sensitive house guests. A work man brought her down to the first floor and placed her on a carpet rolling machine so that I could "inspect the weave" - she looked fine and I could imagine running my feet all over her. I gave my measurements to Darryl and I was assured that she would cut, trimmed and bound to my liking. The transaction went smoothly and the price was more than fair. A few days later, I picked up my new carpet which had been tightly rolled in plastic and brought her home. I look forward to telling my grandchildren about my journey to Tradeway Carpet Outlet and you will too. read more

Wow this place is phenomenal! Rich and Darrel were awesome, answering all of my many questions. The selection is mind-blowing, I've never seen so many carpets. They're honest about the minor flaws some might have and will cut any piece as long as there is a 10'x12' piece remaining for them to sell. They bind, as well, for $2.50/linear foot. They have contract delivery people if you need them for local drop-offs. DEFINITELY worth checking out if you need carpet or area rugs on a budget. read more
