So about a 2 years ago now, my fiancee and I used the services of this store to get a new carpet in our living room. A man and his wife showed up to do the job and all seemed fine when they finished. About 5-6 months after installation, a section of the carpet where it met with an old section started to come up. I called in and spoke to the manager and I was told that they would make it right. However, 2 years later we still have an entire row(or line of stitching, however you call it) that is now missing. And the promised "call from our service manager" never came. These folks were fine to work with on the initial selection and install of our floor. After a few months our floor developed some terrible squeaks. The original installer came out to try and fix it. After about 20 min he showed me the "fix". He shot about 30 nails through the face of the floor boards. Not only did this not fix anything, but now the floor looks terrible (see attached pic)I have been trying to get them out for months now and Tom keeps saying "oh yeah, I'll talk to the installer and get the work scheduled." I'll update if this ever actually happens. Update: 7/21/18 The installers came out today and fixed the flooring. The repair looks great! read more

If there is anything less than 5 stars I would have put it. We went to the store to get information and possibly installation of hardwood floors. We don't know anything about hardwood/laminate or Engineered so we expected to be assisted fully, right?!!! WRONG. We went on Sunday and there was only one person. No Greet, No Welcome how can I help you, he just sat on the desk and I had ask: Hi...where are the hardwood section and we need help selecting, he just pointed. We had to navigate on our own not knowing what/how to select. We had so many questions, so I finally I had to ask him: Can you help us? After 35 minutes of information that was not clear, not informative, we had to ask the questions that he must have asked, we ended up more confused than before. We were so disappointed we just had to leave before I blow my top on this guy. To summarize: 1. Prices are VERY EXPENSIVE 2. No customer service - no willingness to help whatsoever! 3. Bad news (The guy kept on telling us: We don't have this and that and that we need to wait 2 months because of distributions issue). WHAT!! 4. Bad Energy - conversation were so minimal I felt that I had to pay the guy to speak and pay $1 for every word. SPEAK sales person Speak and offer to help. We are 1st time customers for God's Sake. Enough Said. Not recommended and will take my business somewhere else. read more

Gary in Sales was patient, understanding and knowledgable about the store's selection and installation of each type of product. We ended up with hardwood and did not mind the wait for the quantity of product we needed. He warned us of the possibility of any hiccups after the tile was demolished, so we were not surprised that the floors needed leveling. We ended up with a better quality floor due to the padding that was added for acoustic and insulation properties. He consistently followed up to let us know about arrival, timing and install. Luis, the installer, arrived on time, with a very expert and hardworking staff. They took their time to get the floors (upstairs and downstairs) done exactly to our expectations (and to their high expectations, as well). This is the third or fourth time I've used TFS to install carpet/hardwood/engineered wood in my houses over the past 20 years. read more

I hope the experience we had a few years ago isn't usual. I was so stressed and drained that I haven't wanted to write about it, but they finally gave us some compensation after months of ignoring us. I'll try to keep it short. I ordered some beautiful Johnson walnut engineered hardwood for our entire main floor, but when delivered it was gray, not the soft brown of the sample, so I finally settled on Mohawk flooring. When it came, the wear layer seemed very thin. The sample had sealed edges so I couldn't see the layers before. I asked Tom what thickness the wear layer was and he said 3/8", which sounded fine. The installers damaged many boards with scratches, gouges, and even a metal piece embedded like a headless tack. They said the flooring wasn't very good quality, and I paid the same price as the walnut. Turned out to be eucalyptus, which also wasn't listed on the sample. The wear layer is 1 mm, and they don't provide any matching filler or touch-up. After many calls, emails, and texts expressing my concern about the quality and damage during installation, they replaced a few of the damaged boards. The installer refused to replace the one with the embedded metal and stormed out, yelling at me. There were at least a dozen or more damaged boards that still needed to be replaced. I got no responses to my further emails, voicemails or texts, so a number of months later, I went in with my calculations of the difference in quality and price, and got a mediator to help get the damaged boards replaced. I hadn't received an itemized invoice for my calculations but they did agree to a refund that seemed reasonable after they did give me an itemized list with materials and installation separated out. We are very careful with the floor, and it is pretty, but we still find installation scratches that were hidden by furniture. They got us some extra boxes, so we can hire someone to replace scratched boards when we move out I guess. The stress of calls and emails being ignored and our damage not being taken care of for 8 months was the worst part of it. On the plus side, Tom gave us rug pads for the area rugs we got after replacing carpet with hardwood. read more

The floor we had installed by the Floor Store turned out excellent. We did our "due diligence" by getting quotes. At first I thought the quote we received was high, but after getting quotes from other floor places, we realized we were given a reasonable quote so we went back to the Floor Store in San Rafael and ordered the flooring. We had the longer boards (vinyl) that look like real oak installed. It was put over the cement floor, yet because it has cork on the bottom, it does not feel real cold as it would have with a cheaply made flooring. Take a look at the picture to see the flooring. Went in this year to buy luxury vinyl planking for a new home, and the staff, most notably Gary, was terrific. I wanted Coretex brand for the water resistance, and their selection was extensive. I happened to shop on a sale event weekend and saved a ton of moolah too. The care, attention and advice offered by Gary was fantastic. I felt like I had a flooring partner throughout my project, from selection and best pricing to design decisions on floor layout and how to deal with the kitchen floor which won't be remodeled for a few months. Bathrooms also presented a conundrum so Gary and my installer worked out the best course of action at the house. Yes, because Gary, the salesman, takes the time to visit the installation and make sure everything is going smoothly. At first they sent over an incredibly moldy carpet totally unprotected. We obviously could not accept delivery. We called Tom the manager and he said to come over. We found another carpet in the remedents stock. Tom made sure that the carpet was wrapped properly for delivery and that they cut it not on the street or driveway but in the warehouse and house. After being contacted by Gary and receiving the exact samples he recommended, we made our selection and it was on....he got the flooring together at the delivery warehouse, but held it up as he didn't like the options for the trim pieces offered. So he did research and found better matches for all three needed styles, and he was way right...much better match. He kept me updated daily (3 days worth is all but to him it was important I knew where we were.) once delivered (I'm installing myself) he would call every other day to see how I was doing and to give advise and encouragement. We had such a wonderful experience with the floor store! Gary was so helpful in picking out our flooring and patient with me as I changed my mind constantly. I brought home different samples for a week and finally found the perfect floor. We were able to take advantage of one of their amazing sales and got a great deal. Wish I had read these reviews before I decided to give them our business. Wow. Unprofessional, tardy, and expensive. I don't mind expensive when you feel like you got a good service. This is not a well run business. Main problems: 1. not truthful about time frame for job. 2. installers did a very sloppy job causing damage they did not repair 3. they left the installation incomplete when they ran out of carpeting. Instead of calling to say, "sorry we under estimated the square footage", the manager blamed my house as being atypical. Really? They have still not installed the remaining carpet 2 months later. 4. Feels like a used car dealership. I don't know if the sales people work on commission, but it's very shady to not be able to tell the price per square foot on tile and instead say "We have so many dealers. What's your budget and I'll email you a price." How can I know what to budget if I don't know how much your product even costs? Not a good sign if nothing if no prices are marked and they won't tell them to you. Well, as the saying goes, "If you have to ask you probably can't afford it." Took a couple of samples, the entire time during the checkout process the sales woman kept talking about how people don't always return samples. She said my sister "looked honest". Um, lady, we are giving you a credit card imprint, shut up about checking out your precious samples. I returned the the samples the very next day as I had not been contacted at all with a quote. How long could it possibly take to quote for two tiny bathrooms? Went to another ceramic tile store in San Rafael and received stellar customer service and got a quote in 10 MINUTES. I don't know if The Floor Store stays in business because they are a chain and don't have to try. Or if because they are in one of the richest areas in the country they can blow off customers with small projects in favor of palatial estate remodels, but they are off my list and I will tell others to steer clear. read more

The floor store definitely has some great products and will work with you on competitive pricing (especially if you can bring you contractor with you) Tom was great, super friendly and very helpful. I do have some points of frustration - 1. They have horrible follow up, so you have to stay on top of them 2. Disorganized staff. When my contact is out of the office, my order should be in their system so another customer service personnel could help track our status - this is NOT the case here. So be prepared for the frustration. 3. Shipping - it seems a little crazy to spend all this money at a store that won't supply free shipping within a 5 or 10 mile radius. The product is worth some of the frustration, but customer service needs improvement. Our summer home has been rendered uninhabitable for six days now. Because of the FloorStore. The laundry room tile arrived damaged. My salesman Michael, from the Santa Rosa store, blamed the UPS. Then the Mohawk carpet arrived damaged. This discovered after all the bedrooms torn apart, the old carpet and padding removed. I spoked to Michael the day the installer discovered the problem. That was on a Wednesday, as of the following Monday the replacement has not been ordered. Meanwhile, my children can not use our home, swim in the pool have overnight guest from the city since we have no beds, the front room is stacked with bedroom furniture. The laundry room has the removed bedroom doors shoved in it. And the new washer and dryer is to be installed in a few days. Apparently, corporate won't allow the ordering of the replacement until they are sure they can get a return authorization. Why that's taking so long I have no idea.But I have to be inconvenienced and that doesn't seem to bother Michael or his Santa Rosa store manager. I have paid thousands of dollars to this company so far and have absolutely nothing to show for it but a distorted summer home that can't be used in the summer. read more

We just re-carpeted a partial area to our upstairs living and dining area (the carpet area shares space with Pear Wood flooring and selecting the best match was challenging). Our ideal request was to find the best shag pile (our home is contemporary with glass walls and high peaked ceilings so it could withstand the looks of a hefty shag pile carpet). The Floor Store had many great options/recommendations and their inventory fully supported our quizzical demands on color and texture. The salesperson was super to work with. Outstanding!!! We walked into the floor store not knowing anything about carpets. We had some ideas, but did not know where to start. David welcomed us the second we walked in and asked a handful of questions to figure out what we were looking for. He showed us some samples and nailed it on the first one. After measurements were taken we communicated mostly through email and David never left me hanging. He responded quickly to all my emails and even followed up with a text once the carpets were installed. Scheduling with Rocky was a breeze. I wish I had remembered the names of the installers.
