I worked with Chris at the Floor Store over a period of time selecting a floor to be installed. He was very patient and easy to work with, always remembering my name and what I was looking for. When the installer, Angel (truly an Angel), came and tore up the wall to wall carpeting, I discovered that there was a beautiful old douglas fir floor underneath which just needed to be refinished. In spite of the fact that the flooring had already been delivered and the installer was there, they graciously congratulated me on finding a good floor underneath and took back the flooring, returning my deposit. Management showed a complete disregard for questions and concerns involving the installation of luxury vinyl flooring. A good price does not guarantee that good business ethics will follow. The whole experience degrades the meaning of customer satisfaction. Proceed with caution or better yet, look elsewhere for your vinyl flooring if you expect service and communication. I went here and checked out a some glass tile samples. The guy there told me he didn't know the price and would get back to me. When my husband returned it, he still didn't have the price. My husband at that time also requested a price on some cork which the guy said he would get back to us with as well. We have used the Floor Store twice in the last couple years. This review is a combined experience. Pros: - The estimators come out, on time, and provide a good idea of what to expect for the size of the job. - There are a lot of options in the show room, and the delivery time to the house was not too long. Cons: - After not hearing back from them for a few days after giving our deposit, I followed up with them to see the status of the install. Turns out the flooring we wanted was no longer in stock. I don't know how long it would have been until they notified us that we couldn't get the flooring we ordered from them. - We asked, over, and over, which flooring would be best for big animals. They suggested any laminate and as we have found out some of the planks have scratches in them and laminate is not good for any type of spills. This is on us to do our research better, but when asked I feel like they should disclose this, hell even upsell us on something more durable. - Their estimates of time are horrible. a 2-day job ended up being 4 days. Which, living in a home while this work was being performed was not ideal. If we knew it would be longer than a couple days, we would have stayed in a hotel. - The sales person we had for the original job complained that she was not paid at the end of the month, when the job started, but at the beginning of the next month which I guess is not released to her for a while? She made a "joke" that she guesses her kids can't eat this month then which wasn't funny and if it was an issue she should have given us a proper date of payment. As I understand it, she no longer works there. - They didn't disclose that baseboard might not be "finished", meaning the installers may or may not seal all the corners of the baseboard with sealant. Luckily ours did, but why would this NOT be part of a multi-thousand dollar job? I agree with the other reviewer who said it feels like a used car dealership where the sales people are chasing after leads rather than taking care of customers after the deposit has been made. We canceled our job with them and will be going with someone else local. read more

I have been to this store many times in the past couple of years looking at hardwood flooring as well as carpets. I wanted this store to work for convenience sake, but did not like how every sales person gives a different price on the same product. Every time I go in the store they make it clear they don't want to answer any questions if I have talked to someone else in the past. I guess this may be so I don't catch on to the varying pricing. We had someone come out to the house to measure for carpet. He was quite grumpy throughout the process and gave a square footage of carpet needed at 25% higher than what we had been told by other stores!! 25% higher!! I can't recommend. First we worked with a sales person who got the wrong samples. After our second trip to the Floor Store he then said he couldn't find our product in the system. With two little kids, making trips into the store isn't easy but we were hopeful. He promised to find them and send us a job order with cost...that never happened. I called the store and the manager answered - he assured me that he would solve the issue. Unfortunately no returned phone calls. Perfect work at incredible price. We couldn't be happier with our beautiful new floor in our master bedroom. The dog had left our carpet un-showable to guests, so we dropped by and spoke with Artie, one of their designers who helped us to no end (as we're fairly indecisive ;-). Got great installers, David & team, did an awesome job. But they didn't have enough material delivered. Stair nose missing, molding missing? This is basic 101 stuff, how can you mess that up.... Now waiting on the material to show up to finish the work. Zero professional service from the personnel at store, they don't even return the call after making promises. This place was great. I was looking to get an area rug made for my new apartment in San Francisco and I ran accoss The Floor Store in Richmond. I was greeted by a very friendly and knowledgeable salesperson named Dan and he directed me through the store and showed me where to find different sizes of remnats and also let me know that I could have a piece cut from one of the many rolls they had in stock . He was not pushy about the sale and let me look but let me know he was there if I had questions. I was looking for something very specific and he offered to check this other store (customer service :) He directed me to Bret in their San Rafael store and I found exactly what I wanted. Bret helped me decide on the size that would work in my rooms and the best pad and the best binding. I was able to get a beautiful rug for my living room and the price was so good I was able to also do my bedroom. I wanted a unique wool that would stand out in my Edwardian Style San Francisco Apt and I found it. This place exceeded my expectations, I can not say enough. I highly recommend it. I will start by saying that they have many options in all kinds of flooring. My concern is the customer service. I have decided to redo all the flooring in my home. I walked in and started browsing. No one greeted me (there were 2 sales people and 0 customers). No body asked if I could use some help. I walked around for about 15 minutes looking at wood, carpet, etc. No communication. Nothing! I just walked away shaking my head. 15 minutes and no words were spoken. When I was growing up my father always told me that customer service was the most important aspect of a business. They should take his advice. I went to another store in SR and found all that I needed. I would give 4-5 stars for the supply, 0 stars for customer service. read more

Do not give these guys your business. We did once too many times. Background - last summer We were remodeling a bathroom and needed tiles for the floor and shower. They had some ceramic tiles we liked, so we ordered them and were told they would be in in a couple of days, which they were. Fast forward to September: we're doing the second bathroom and wanted to use the same tiles as in the first bath. So we troop up to San Rafael, order more tiles and pay in full. Again, they said they'd be in in a couple of days. Meanwhile our contractor had gutted the bathroom and replaced the tub. Ten (10) after we ordered the tiles, he was ready to install them and move on to the sink and toilet. Thinking that we had ordered them in plenty of time, we called the Floor Store to tell them that our contractor would be coming to pick them up. Surprise! Not only were the tiles not in, they had not bothered to call us when they realized the manufacturer no longer makes those tiles! So my wife leaves work early, drives up to San Rafael and chooses other tiles and tells them that we need these in two days, otherwise it's not worth it. Yes, they say, yes these will be in in two days, on Friday. Two days. On Friday. Again they don't call and we have to call them. Well...... it seems they're not in yet but if we call on Monday they'll have a better idea when the ordering guy is back in the office. Grrrrrrrr.... Call back on Monday. Oh, wait, turns out those tiles won't be in for another MONTH. Time for a refund and to look for another source for tiles. To sum: First purchase arrived in two days as promised. Second purchase did not arrive in two days as promised. After ten days we call and get the runaround. Call back today and the tiles are apparently on a slow transport from planet Zorgulon and won't be here for a month. They did not take the initiative to call us. Ever. We had to call them repeatedly to get information. If your project is on any kind of schedule, don't bother with these guys. In fact, don't bother with them at all. read more

The Floor Store went above and beyond. I'm very pleased with their: selection of merchandise, dedication to quality, pricing, and workmanship. The Floor Store has a very broad selection of wool, as well as nylon carpets, and they're very gracious in letting folks take home samples to test out. We chose to put in a wool berber carpet into our bedrooms, hallway and stairs. This was a very challenging job: our house has no right angles; all the rooms are irregularly shaped. Also, we have 65 stairs to the front door and 28 stairs inside the house. So we have just about everything that would make a job difficult to bid and difficult to install. Floor Store pricing was SIGNIFICANTLY below Abbey Carpets, probably because The Floor Store took the time to get it right. Abbey didn't. And the quality of the installation that The Floor Store (Joel) did was first class. A true craftsman. I give the Floor Store an unqualified highest recommendation. read more
