A spectacular restaurant - terrific food, creatively, prepared, pretty yet unpretentious environment, and excellent service. Prices are also reasonable. My wife, daughter, and I ate here three times in three days during a recent visit (one dinner and two lunches.) Autumn green bowl, citrus beet salad, mahi burrito fresco, cornbread, datil tuna bowl, and derby pie all were excellent. Chicken quesadillas and veggie burger were good too, but a notch below the excellent stuff. Will come back every time we visit St. Augustine. Let's say if you visit St. Augustine The Floridian is must to eat for lunch and/ or dinner. A great outdoor seating and welcoming service/inside seating as well. What was great that they have many options you can make gluten free. We started off with chips/veggies and dips adding pimento cheese. The dips are black bean poblano dip, chickpea hummus and pimento cheese; these dips is the best I ever had and I definitely ate it with my main entree. For my main entree, I ordered the shrimp banh mi po boy which has the freshness of a banh mi, shrimp flavored as a po boy and well toasted bread to top it all off. Also, ordered the Bay of Pigs w/ gluten free bread, the pork was flavorful and rich and the bread wasn't like normal gf bread, where it falls apart. Even though we were full we had to make our stomach explode with a warm gluten free brownie with caramel drizzle and whip cream that also exploded my taste buds; to think it was flourless is impressive. read more

On our vacation we came here once for dinner and then again for breakfast. The short of it: I highly recommend for dinner, and would recommend reserving a table outdoors for a better ambiance. For lunch, the food was more meh. Our Dinner Experience: We started with the Fried Green Tomatoes appetizer. I am not a connoisseur of FGT and have nothing to compare them to, but we enjoyed them but we had to scrape the sauce pale green sauce off ot them to enjoy them....the sauce just completely killed/neutralized the flavor of the tomatoes themselves; if you order it, I'd suggest asking for the sauce on the side. For dinner ***I had the Brisket Posole Verde, and I can't recommend that highly enough: the flavors and textures melded together perfectly***. I paired the meal with the No Country For Old Men cocktail, which was superb, and made for a perfect . My wife selected the "'N Grits" as her meal, and I believe she chose the shrimp as the protein. She really liked it, but both of us agreed that the Brisket Posole was the real standout; speaking of which, not only was the Posole delectable, but it was so plentiful that I had to take almost half of it back to the hotel in a to-go container. The server was excellent as well, but the atmosphere in the dining room left something to be desired as it was loud and didn't provide any romantic ambience whatsoever (I'd liken the dining room to one at a Chili's restaurant); if you can reserve patio seating that would be my recommendation, as it was lit up nicely and would have provided a much better ambience at night. Lunch: I had the "Spicy Melt" with the Mahi Mahi fresh catch. I did not care for the bread that was on, and despite having Spicy in the name I found that it wasn't spicy at all....I had to get a bottle of hotsauce and drench it in it to give it some flavor. read more

Anywhere downtown St. Augustine is problematic, heck most cities in the US have downtown parking issues, just want you to k ow it going in. There is a lot to the side that we used which was perfect, so start there. Second, we did not have reservations, so we had a short wait. It was Sunday night, so I can imagine busier nights having a longer wait so RESERVATIONS SUGGESTED. Okay, on to the food: Fried Green Tomatoes - 10/10, four well cooked green tomatoes, topped with a delightful sauce. Fingerling Potatoes - good, but my wife wanted fries. Cobb Salad - it was different, good but not great and did not resemble a Cobb salad in any way. The dressing was PHENOMENAL. Burger - lean grass dead beef and delicious with a home made relish. By the way, relish and pickles are one of their specialties. Cornbread Stack - UNBELIEVABLY GOOD. I mean seriously, simply cornbread and your choice of protein, but it's simplicity works. Dessert - too full, next time. If you want to splurge - go for the MP fish on any of the dishes. They really do fish well here. We ended up at this place on a whim as we were starving and looking for food in the St. Augustine area. They were able to seat us with our dog outside right away which was a bonus to begin with. The waitress was very attentive and nice and even brought my dog out some fresh water. I ended up ordering the "N' Grits" assuming it was going to be the standard grits but it was a grit cake which I never had before. Initially I was a bit bummed but after taking the first bite, boy did my mind change! The salmon and grit cake were seasoned to PERFECTION and complimented each other well. Someone recommended we give this place a shot as it was a nice restaurant to celebrate my friend's birthday. We checked in & we're excited because it's super cozy inside. We took a look over the cocktail menu & couldn't find one we were interested in at all. Their soup of the day was French onion. If you take a look at the French onion soup in question in the photo below you can see that it's not French onion soup. I couldn't handle more than 1 spoonful. It had an odd curry flavor. The salmon was cooked perfectly and I finished every last bite. This salad never disappoints. My son had the kids pulled pork and very much enjoyed it. My husband had the pork and waffle. We were looking for a place to eat that wasn't a 1.5-2 hour wait, and came across this place where we were able to be seated outside right away. The service was quick, and the server was very helpful with recommendations. The food came quickly. One member of our party had to wait a couple of minutes for theirs to come, but that was the only bad thing our entire visit. The food was fresh, unique, and had an abundance of flavor! I got to try my boyfriend's chicken sandwich and roasted potatoes, which were excellent. The 'N Waffles were a cornbread type waffle which our friend really enjoyed. I got the Tuna bowl, which was phenomenal! The rice was so flavorful, like it was cooked in coconut milk or something like that. The roasted sweet potatoes had a nice curry seasoning, as did the cashews. The Tuna was seasoned well and seared. Every bite was a flavor celebration! This place definitely did not disappoint! We made a reservation for 9:15 pm and we were greeted and seated with our choice of an outside table. It was a beautiful cool night and the ambiance was calm and peaceful. It was perfect for a date night. Our server was lovely and gave fantastic recommendations. We had the FRIED SHRIMP FANCY for our appetizer and it was so yummy. The summer babe cocktail and mojito we ordered were perfect and refreshing. My boyfriend ordered the GOLDEN CURRY and he said it was so good. He had been craving Indian food and it cured that fix. He loved the flavors and would definitely order again. I ordered 'HIGH SUMMER' PORK TENDERLOIN and OMG I got it exactly how it came- DO NOT take anything off or sub anything. Luckily we had reservations because it was about 100 degrees the day we visited. Guests could sit outside without reservations but it was just too hot. I thought this would be something other than my favorite restaurant because flounder was the day's catch, and I would never get flounder at a restaurant. All I wanted was grouper, mahi, or something else that I could only get in Florida, and I was very disappointed at first. However, the datil-dusted tuna bowl caught my eye. It was served rare over coconut rice with papaya slaw and sesame-roasted sweet potatoes, with chermoula, cashews, and micro-greens. I did not know St. Augustine was known for datil peppers and this dish was phenomenal. Our group also shared fried green tomatoes which were good but not great. We had them elsewhere the day before and that version was much better. The cornmeal here was gritty and the tomatoes seemed undercooked because they were still sour, although the herbed ricotta on top was delicious. We all had leftovers for the next day, and this was one of our favorite meals on the trip even without the grouper. read more

The Floridian was suggested by some colleagues in Tampa. We made reservations on 05/31 for my birthday dinner. Beautiful night, very warm, friendly atmosphere & clean. Hostess greeted us with smiles & suggested sitting at the bar until our table was ready. ANDREW, the bartender was AMAZING!! Spot on, super friendly, delicious drinks and wonderful conversation. Even some locals sitting at the bar were friendly & offered some places to visit in the area. Time to eat!! We were seated at one of the bar area tables & excited to try the food. A surgeon colleague at work said the fish was to die for. This is where our night was ruined... I'll make this short as it was SO much at once, we couldn't even believe what was happening at a place like this. All of a sudden a single menu was "dropped" on the table sideways & upside down as she said nothing & walked away. Withholding judgement, we didn't think she was our waitress as she was dressed entirely different than the rest of the staff at this nice restaurant. (Big sloppy t-shirt to her thighs, a bright pink, ankle length satin skirt & the worse facial expressions ever) She finally returned, just stood there with the "I hate being here look on her face" & said "what can I get you" (like we were at McDonalds) My other half asked, "do you have any suggestions?" She mentioned a fish dish, he asked, "is that good?" she said in such a mean voice "Everything is good!" and curled her lip like we were bothering her then she just walked away. We ordered 2 meals which were EXCELLENT!!! BEST fish I have had in a very long time :-) Michael then made the mistake of asking for a small to go box which apparently was exhausting for her to go retrieve. (pics attached of the food in the box) Flung that on the table, NEVER told us her name, NEVER asked if we wanted drinks.. see the almost empty glasses when dinner was served picture (Michael had an empty glass 75% of the time & mine was gone) Once our plates were served, she NEVER returned not once to ask how it was, if we wanted anything etc.. He went to the bar to ask for our check, she dropped it on our table then turned to walk away.. I had had it with her attitude & asked nicely "are you always this rude to customers at this nice place?" She took 1 step back towards me to say something but withheld & had Andrew cash us out while she stood and just glared deeply the entire time at us until we left. The couple next to us leaned over and said they wouldn't be back as she ruined their night as well. I was a server & manager for decades at normal, very High end & members only restaurants therefore, I understand this industry which is also why I tip VERY WELL. I also understand that everyone has a "bad" night but when you are "on the floor working" you put your game face on and do your job because you are representing that establishment. TARA H. our server (which we only knew because it was printed on our bill) ruined our Floridian 1st time experience. I did not tip on a $125 bill as all she did was take my order. I would have easily left $40/$50 if it had been the experience we initially went there for. I hope TARA H. treats her future customers better or finds something else that makes her happy. read more

One of the few places within the heart of touristy St Augustine where you can get an alright meal at a fairly decent price. I like that they have veg options too. I had the burrito with tofu and it was honestly more like an american wrap rather than a burrito which was fine by me. People at our table liked their food. The big hit seemed to be the garlic cilantro dressing. On a hot and humid Florida day, the refreshing salads seems to be the way to go. They serve local drinks. Service was very good. read more

Came here for my birthday and was severely disappointed. Being health conscious and gluten-free, we thought this would be a great option. When we got their we got the first glimpse of problems. Even though we told that in Florida mask mandates are not allowed, we were told that mask were required inside. We did agreed to sit outside. We had several option including a flatbread that was made from Cauliflower. Overall the food was okay, but not great. And there was a lot of sweetness in the food where it did not belong. We made the best of it and I enjoyed my birthday night with my wife. But by the end of the night I was bloated. And we both felt sick later. I spent a good part overnight on the toilet. This is a place I will certainly not return to and do not recommend it. All I have to say is WOW. I've wanted to try The Floridian on past trips to St. Augustine but wasn't able to. I was missing out!! We got Company's coming as an appetizer which is fried green tomatoes, pickled vegetables, bread and pimento cheese. All of the things on this plate were delicious. As entrees I got the curry with blackened tofu. They have so many options for people with any dietary needs and YUMMY ones. I've never had blackened tofu but it was sooo good. My gf got the shrimp and grits and it was PACKED full of shrimp definitely a good value. Yum this place is amazing! My friend and I came in on a Friday night so it was a pretty crowded but we were able to snag two seats at the bar. The bartenders were friendly and let us try a few different types of drinks since we were so indecisive. My friend got the shrimp curry dish and I got the tofu, both were amazing! We reserved a table upstairs, but upon arriving, there was no hostess present, but there was a large group of people gathered waiting to be helped. Once the host finally arrived, they told us they were running behind on reservations and they would call us when ready. Once seated, they seated us downstairs, despite the reservation for upstairs. Truly one of the worst service experiences ever-- our waiter came to our table once the entire evening. One time. He didn't come back to deliver the food, ask us how it was, refill water, or anything. He was curt and rude. It's a bit in the cut depending on where you parked(we did street parking), but in the center of shops and dining. We made a reservation for a group which I recommend as the place was busy when we arrived. There's a covered patio as well as indoor seating. The lunch menu consists of funky bowls, sandwiches, and apps to share. I enjoyed the gin gimlet with my bowl and left stuffed for way late into the evening.
