    Cuban Sandwich?
    Mari C.

I'm sorry but this was the Fyre Festival of Cuban sandwiches. I'm genuinely confused how this is even being advertised as a Cuban sandwich. It was basically grocery store lunch meat, a pickle or two, and a tiny slice of Swiss cheese pressed between bread. No pernil/roast pork in sight. Zero flavor. As a Latina, I found this beyond disappointing.

    Eunice A.

The food was good. I wish they had pressed it longer. Cheese not melted and cold in the middle. But the bean soup was absolutely amazing. Service was good.

Great Cuban...Rice and beans were kind of average....You get and extra piece of bread too with the beans/rice...Outside seating is nice.

Excellent spot for Cuban sandwiches and black beans & rice! Conveniently located near many area attractions and easy to get in and out of. Service is friendly and fast, what more could you ask for? Super casual atmosphere with a few places to sit inside but the majority of seating is situated outside under the awning...just don't feed the birds and you'll be fine. They hold quite a few of the "Best of" awards for the Tampa area...I would say rightly so!

If you're looking for the best Cuban sandwich in the Tampa/St. Pete area, look no further -- The Floridian is it. There's a reason this place has the reputation it does, and after trying it ourselves, we can 100% confirm it lives up to the hype. The sandwich is perfection: fresh bread with just the right crunch, layers of flavorful meat, melty cheese, and that perfect balance of pickles and mustard that makes a Cuban what it should be. Every bite was packed with flavor, and it's easy to see why this shop stands out above the rest. On top of that, it's got that cozy, local-dive charm that makes you feel like you've stumbled on a true hidden gem. No frills, just phenomenal food made with care. If you're in St. Pete or Tampa and don't stop here, you're missing out. The Floridian isn't just good -- it's the gold standard for Cuban sandwiches!

Great local spot for Cuban sandwiches. Soup is tasty as well. Dine inside, on patio or carryout. Super casual and chill. We walked over in swimsuit covers and flip flops. Super reasonable, good quality, staff friendly.

In town to visit family and my brother found this Cuban Sandwich restaurant to try. We placed our order at the counter and took our beers to the outdoor patio. Our food was delivered quickly and did not last long. The sandwiches were awesome. All in $35

Thanks to Yelp, I found a great place for a Cuban. Got my food to go and sat on the nearby beach. Though there are places to sit, a few inside and tables and chairs outside. Still craving that sandwich! The bread was excellent, too.

Yup...darn good Cuban sandwiches with casual outdoor covered seating. Every year I visit St Pete's and every year I get my Cuban sandwich at this place!

For a sub shop on the beach, this place was so good! We stopped in after a long beach day cuz we heard this place was the shit! So ofc we had to go see for ourselves. I got a 12in Cuban classic, and Kevin got a spiced pork sandwich. The Cuban was the better of the two in both of our opinions. The mustard and pickles were perfect for a little tangy taste. The buttered bread was just crispy enough but not overdone, perfect. We got draft beers to enjoy our sandwiches with. So fucking good. Definitely coming back here before we fly out on Thursday. We wanted to try the recommended Cuban sandwiches here so we did! The beans and rice were my favorite item on the menu. The sandwiches were crunchy, somewhat pressed and fresh but not the best we've had. The spicy pork sandwich was short on pork and even shorter on spice. The folks were nice and it was clean but I don't think we'll be back for Cubans. We much prefer Bodega! We've not had much luck with restaurants on the beach. How about you? Life is good when you try a local spot!

We stopped in for breakfast at Azucar on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend after seeing a piece about them on "I Love St Pete." What got me excited to try them specifically was their seeming focus on street food items like croquetas, papas rellenas, and empanadas--while some Cuban food spots on this side of Tampa Bay like La Segunda or Bodega have Cuban Sandwiches and empanadas covered, not everyone does croquetas. Now, for someone like me, who grew up on those deep-fried, ham-filled, finger food-sized bits of goodness, that's just a crime, so I welcome any Cuban/Latin American joint to the area who serves them as long as they do them right. Let me assure any other croquetas fan reading this that Azucar DOES do them right, and a whole lot more! A few things to note before you go. Azucar is located in a tiny space next to the Wheelhouse on Central Ave--they took over the space previous occupied by Ohio Pizza Pie. Their business at the moment is mostly pick-up and carry out because they have VERY limited seating on site--basically a few tables and stools to accommodate patrons waiting on their to-go orders. Not to worry, though. Aside from calling in your order and picking it up, Azucar also utilizes GrubHub and Door Dash, so delivery is an option, too. Also, note their business hours. Azucar is open daily 8am-5pm, so they're targeting the breakfast and lunch market in the area. That means it's just about perfect for getting your cafe con Leche or cortadito first thing in the morning along with a breakfast empanada or tostada. That brings me finally to the food. Almost everything Mel and I tried that morning was delicious. The croquetas--obviously the first thing I tried--were perfect. Their ground ham filling was flavorful and reminded me of mornings with my dad in Hialeah, eating from corner cafes and walk-up spots. The breakfast empanadas also were excellent. Made from house made dough and filled with scrambled eggs, mozzarella cheese, and sausage, they have great flavor on their own, but be sure to try them with the dipping sauces they have to offer. If I have to be truly critical of anything, it was the papa rellena we ordered. The mashed potato stuffing needed some seasoning and the picadillo at the center, while flavorful, wasn't fully heated through. Little things that I'm sure will be corrected by the next time we order from them, which will be soon! Oh, and let me just say this: do NOT leave without ordering the Dulce de Leche empanadas. They're served up piping hot, covered with powdered sugar with Dulce de Leche caramel dripping out after every drop. Amazing stuff!

This morning, we were served what can only be described as tepid, stale, weak coffee--at a staggering $15 for two cups. It wasn't just disappointing; it was borderline offensive to call it Cuban coffee. True Cuban coffee is bold, rich, dark, and unmistakably strong. What we received was the opposite: a pale gray liquid with a suspicious, artificial flavor, as if something had been added to mask its age or poor quality. Temperature? Lukewarm. Strength? Nearly nonexistent. Authenticity? Zero. If you're expecting a proper Cuban coffee experience, this is not the place. It misses the mark on every level. For anyone in Gulfport who actually wants real Cuban coffee, go to Pipos in St Pete; it's worth the drive. Their coffee is exactly what it should be--strong, flavorful, and authentic. No comparison. Havana Cafe should either fix their coffee immediately or stop advertising it as Cuban. As it stands, it's overpriced and deeply disappointing.

The music upon entry was Latin classic and exactly what you'd want a spot like this. My friend and I split the Pork Sandwich which is usually my choice and he got the Palomilla Steak. Both were flavorful with the buttered Cuban bread and served with a side of green mojo sauce that was great for both sandwiches. We asked for some extra on the side and that helped make the sandwiches taste a little less dry. You gotta love mojo to come to a Cuban restaurant! The service was alright and the waitress was nice but we found ourselves asking for silverware, condiments, & the check a few times. I'd recommend regardless for others to come to Habana Cafe!
