Loved this place! Came here for a late dinner and it was just what we needed on a cold night. Their food was delicious and the service was excellent and FAST. Everything was hot and flavorful and the portions are big enough for left overs which we've enjoyed the next day and it's just as good. Most dishes come with rice and a soup. The soups are hot and delicious as well. My absolute favorite was their salt baked shrimp with chili. Not too spicy but it does have a kick. It's garlicky, salty, and just so flavorful and you get a big portion of shrimp. Their sesame chicken was also really good. Crispy, sweet and filling. Definitely coming back soon. read more

I've passed by and pondered on Flower Drum many many times. Finally, I've decided to give them a try. I ordered the food to be delivered but I was still satisfied. The portions are HUGE. I definitely did not have to order two meals but I wanted to try both, so no regrets ofcourse. I ordered the shrimp fried rice with extra egg. They took the extra egg request verrryyy seriously as you can see from my photo. I'm not mad about it but I won't request that again LOL. I also ordered the Almond Boneless Chicken. I've never tried ABC before but saw many positive comments about this dish of theirs. Overall, I enjoyed all the food I ordered. It was so hot when it was delivered, so I ate both (as much as my stomach could handle) right away. The fried rice was well seasoned, I did add some soy sauce to elevate the flavor a little bit. The chicken for the ABC was fresh, juicy, but bland. However, over the white rice and smothered with gravy it was pretty good. I enjoyed the full combination of the meal a lot. Oh yeah, the egg roll was bomb! I look forward to trying different dishes the next time I visit. read more

Every now and then when I eat Chinese, I'll order some spicy Szechuan, just because I like semi-hot and hot food. Usually, however, I'll order ABC, A.K.A., almond boneless chicken. Unlike much of the Chinese and American Chinese menu, ABC really seems to stick to your ribs. Flower Drum makes some of the best almond boneless chicken in town; even one of the the 1-star reviews makes an exception for the ABC! Order it and you'll get an ample portion of chicken, coated perfectly with a smooth and crunchy cornstarch based breading. It's served on a bed of lettuce with, maybe some Chinese cabbage, and it's topped with a creamy, thick brown sauce and plenty of almond slivers. You also get rice and a fortune cookie. (My fortune said "Never eat at a wet market in a city that is home to a national virology laboratory." I have no idea how Interpret that, but it sounds ominous). To be honest, I may have gotten a batch over the years that wasn't quite up to standards, and I have had better almond boneless chicken in town (Yang's, Golden City), but flower drum makes a great product. Although Chinese food travels well, and although the logistics of Flower Drum's "take out only" system seem pretty efficient, and although Flower Drum was never much on atmosphere, I'll give FD a fifth star if they reopen their dining room...sometimes I just hate eating in the car. read more

My first initial visit, I had the shrimp fried rice and I guess you can't go wrong with that simple Chinese dish right, but now we move onto the sweet-and-sour chicken, which is a heap of fried tasteless mess with bleached out sticky rice... this dish was completely flavorless right on down to the pathetic pieces of green peppers, pineapples and rotten carrots that they attempted to add into the dish for freshness, but to no prevail, it took every ounce of dignity not to spew my meal onto the floor. Would I recommend this place for basic dishes such as shrimp fried rice that in which a five-year-old could cook at home in a a magic wok? YES? , but for the big boys like the hibachi and stirfry, I would not recommend this place. Sesame beef was grayish in color with what looked like chicken or undercooked breading in it. It was mushy and tasted sweet. The egg foo young was not too bad but the gravy was very thin and watery. Sorely disappointed as the parking lot was full and reviews were good. read more

We ordered thru door dash for a friday evening meal. The order arrived and I had paid online but reminded the driver that I had added a 20% tip. Her reply was the restaurant told her there was no tip. Egg Fu Yung paties had the shrimp floating on top instead of inside the patties. I dont know what was in the patties but it was not bean sprout and egg. The rice it came with was in a half pint container which isn't enough for 3 patties. Once we began eating we all knew the shrimp was "off" by that I mean it was on the verge of spoiled and you could taste it in the first bite. All of the food went into the garbage can. Besides scamming the delivery drivers of their tips and selling spoiled food they won't get our business ever again. read more

To experience this you must order off the special Chinese menu if you want to sample their skill. The hot and sour soup is legendary, robust and loaded with pork and tofu. It is a meal by itself. Their seafood soup is bursting with more subtlety. Ginger and other spices combine with delicate tiny mushrooms and assorted seafood and delicately overwhelm your mouth with flavor. I was really excited to try a place that actually had some authentic chinese dishes on the menu, I bought some of my friends and encountered something really odd. My wife and I had the tea smoked duck which was pretty good, my friends went for the more traditional chinese fare, got Almond Chicken and Chop suey, even for an Americanized dish this was the worst tasting crap I have ever seen assembled at a chinese restaurant. I have heard of catering to Americans, but brown gravy in your almond chicken and chop suey is outlandish. Both were horrible and the brown gravy on both tasted the same which means they propably use a common stock. Never going back there!!! read more

I have been going to Flower Drum since I was 10 years old. It is by far the best Chinese restaurant I've ever been to, and every time I am in town I have to go there. I like the lo mein a lot, either beef or chicken. They use fine noodles and crisp vegetables. Delicious!! The fried rice is very flavorful. When I met my husband, he did not like Chinese food at all. When I got him to try Flower Drum, he loved it! He likes the general tso chicken, they make it a different way than I've seen at any other restaurant. Their egg drop soup is fantastic, and we always order fried wonton as an appetizer. It tastes great dipped in the soup. The staff is great, and the waitress recognizes us every time we come in. I used to love going to Flower Drum. I've gone a couple of times this year and it's exactly the same...EXACTLY the same. No updates probably hasn't been cleaned since the summer of '97. But the food was good. WAS good. I always get Almond Boneless Chicken and some of the chicken was so hard that I couldn't even eat it. I hope I just had a bad batch. I normally love this place, I always order the same thing because it's delicious but, I always order my meal with cashews and peapods. They charged me a $1 for each extra item (reasonable) but I get maybe 8 peapods which are extremely overcooked and I get about 5 cashews if they remember to even put them on. This last time, when I called to complain, she blamed me for the peapods being mushy. I eat Chinese food twice a week, usually do I know that peapods can cook a little more but not like THIS. Her solution was to give me 10% off my next meal. I didn't want any type of monetary discount, I just wanted them to apologize and offer to just give me extra cashews and not overly cooked peapods on my next order. This establishment should not blame me for their overcooked food. I travel about 15 miles to get to this place which proves how much I like it. read more

Authentic Chinese food? Yes. Low quality dishes? Yes. Ample portion sizes, broad menu, but like I just previously mentioned, poor quality of food. The salt pepper pork chops were heavily breaded, and I quickly discovered that the breading was so they could cover up all the animal fat due to the low-grade meat. I also learned that more than 70% of the dish consisted of bones, which was very disappointing. Fat or bone... such a toss-up. The crispy shrimp balls were quite savory, but sadly, the accompanying shrimp chips simply lacked a certain zing. And lastly, the beef brisket with bean curd hotpot. The tofu was clearly prepared days before as it reeked of stale bean curd. The beef brisket was good, but the smell and taste of everything else made the dish itself quite unappetizing. One server was taking care of about 6-7 tables, so we had to flag her down to place our orders, never mind the refills (which never came, by the way.) In conclusion, go elsewhere for authentic, regional Chinese cooking. read more
