The fields were already stunning, but Yelp really took it to another level with all the special touches throughout the experience. From curated food and drink tastings to interactive pop-ups and beautifully styled photo ops, every detail felt thoughtfully planned. It was such a fun way to explore the fields, walking through rows of vibrant flowers while discovering local vendors and unique bites along the way. The Carlsbad Flower Fields are a lush and beautiful way to spend a day outside with family and friends. As a native, I've had the privilege to visit it many times in my childhood and several as an adult but until 2023, I hadn't been in a couple of decades. I surprised my mom with tickets for Mother's Day. She'd mentioned it a couple of times so I knew it would be the perfect treat. Parking is always challenging and that hasn't changed over the years. Be prepared to walk from the back lot and stand in line to enter the field. The field is a large garden so there is dirt and possibly mud where you're walking and viewing. Be careful of divets in the ground around the flowers as you're walking through. The fields are lush and majestic! It is impossible to not smile and feel at peace walking through the rows and rows of colourfully grown flowers as far as the eye can see. The history of the fields is really fascinating and something I didn't remember from childhood. I also never had a name for the flowers until I read the history. I didn't even know what a ranunculus was. Hahaha The Flower Fields are a great way to spend the day getting in your steps, touching grass, and burning some of the kidlet energy. My review got lost... I didn't know about this place until an acquaintance posted a photo on social media. That inspired me to visit with my SO but little did I know they're closing in just 2 days! What a bummer!!! Maybe that's why the flowers aren't as vibrant as expected, but I still really enjoyed them. We walked around, took lovely photos, and made some great memories. There's a wagon ride you can take around the garden (for a fee), but if you're walking, comfy shoes are a must. Your feet will thank you later! There's also a shop at the exit, though nothing really caught my eye. Parking was super easy. Free and plenty of it. You can even park at the Outlet and walk over to the flower field. Went here with my Tita (aunt) and my cousins for a birthday! Really stunning views, especially with the glimmering sunshine that made the blooming flower shimmer even more. Made for such wonderful pictures. Weather was perfect, as it always is in San Diego, that I could sunbathe on the many benches or the picnic table at the top. I really was in awe of the water bodies nearby and the pier city-like look that you see from the top. It made me appreciate the beauty of San Diego in its entirety. I like that there are different photo op locations at the Flower Fields with the butterfly benches, foliage arches, etc. they even have unique activations like the mini kid park, butterfly garden, greenhouse, film view tent, etc. the fact that you can even host occasions, like a wedding, here had my jaw drop because this location really does it all! Many different vendors...thank gosh for those who sold cold beverages and dessert in this sunny weather. A bit pricey, but expected for a function like this. Got to try to freshly-picked Carlsbad strawberries, but it was $15 omg !!! Also, $27 admission is crazy D: it was a smaller flower field than what I saw at Mount Vernon in Washington State. Such a waste of time! Do not waste your money here. We paid $27 each to get a worst view than we get from the freeway. You can't actually walk through the fields, and non are the flowers diverse. It was the same flowers just different colors. This was such a disappointment. The wagon ride was $7, the blueberry picking was $7, nothing worth a damn was free. $34 to ride around flowers that are free to drive past, again, way prettier from the freeway. Pros: Went with the family on Earth Day! The flowers were stunning. We rode the wagon back and forth, and picked some organic blueberries. I took a gazillion photos as they had a lot of photo ops/areas to sit and showcase the fields. The giant Adirondack chairs were fun! Also, you could definitely see how creative and detailed they made all the flowers grow just as they planned them. Kudos to the gardeners and landscapers! Amazing work! Food was ok. We had some tamales and burritos at a Mexican stand. I had been craving soft serve ice-cream, which they had. I ordered the swirl chocolate and vanilla, but the chocolate wasn't as chocolatey as I had hoped. Cons: I was surprised they didn't have any special events. No live music either. The American Flag flowers were dead and I'm not sure why. They didn't explain. The wagon driver only played a prerecorded history of the place. Also, the entrance fee is generally, just to enter. If you have a large family on a budget, keep in mind the extra fees for every single thing you want to see. I would've loved to stay longer for the 'golden hour,' as I love photography, but we started the day a bit early and after three hours, we were a little tired and bored. 10/10. This place is heaven! So many beautiful flowers and planted in a pattern so it's gorgeous to look at. We picked the package with parking, wagon ride and butterfly and it was worth it! It was not packed so we didn't wait long for the wagon or picture spots. And there's so many great spots for photos. It's very spacious so we didn't feel rushed or cramped. I also enjoyed the band playing and seating area to rest your feet and enjoy the entertainment. Our second favorite part was the butterfly exhibit! Wow!! Got in early within 30 minutes of the fields opening and glad I did that as the crowd swarmed in closer to 11am to noon. Easy ticket purchase and instructions online. Plenty of flowers still in bloom mid April and it was COOL out today, hallelujah! The ranunculus fields were colorful and bright, you can buy a fresh cut bunch for $11.99 right at the exit as you walk through Armstrong Gardens center that's attached to the fields. You do have to pay an extra fee for the tractor ride, butterfly exhibit, forgot if there was a fee for the sweet pea maze but not sure as I didn't go in. They do have finches and doves in open cages around the small garden, a stage and covered seating area with love music. A few small vendors selling merch and I bought a cute Chinese style fabric parasol. There was plenty of shaded benches, yummy soft serve ice cream, fresh and zesty lemonade and piping hot kettle popcorn. There's also some food trucks selling tacos, tamales, and hot dogs. Flower Fields ...forever! The Beatles song 'Strawberry Fields Forever,' melodically played in my mind every time I reminisce of my day trip at the Carlsbad Flower Fields. Located next to the Armstrong Nursery, the Flower Fields has been here for over 50 years and is the largest growers of Rananculis, aka Persian Buttercup and Tecolote Giant. In Spanish Tecolote means owl, possibly called that as some of the flowers have a dark hugh center, like an owl's eye! Open to the public for a fee, tickets can be purchased online or at the window. There are 50 acres, produce 80 million blooms during it's peak. More information on its history, ownership and details/specifics are available to read on the pics I posted with headings: Carlsbad Ranch, Flower Fields and Ranunculus. Rows and rows of vibrant flowers in bands of colors are spectacularly a visual treat. These flowers do NOT have any fragrance, NO scent therefore, No bumble bees around. It's quite funny to see people trying to get close to the flowers to get a scent, but No fragrance at all. Lots of colors from white, to the pinks, reds, oranges and multicolored...beautiful! There's a wagon ride with a prerecorded narrated info as you're driven to a couple stops on the field. Strict instructions not to walk into the fields except to designated areas which were taped allows visitors to enter and look closer and take pics. My visit included my service pup Fendi and my friend, who currently uses a medical cane for mobility. The staff were very accommodating; boarding the wagon had a ramp, no steps which facilitated anyone with similar physicality and difficulty. There's a lot of walking of dirt fields, which are essentially farm grounds, no paved paths so wearing comfortable walking shoes, clothing and a hat for sun protection is advisable. I wore my Valentino rockstud espadrilles which are casual and comfortable in my book, but they got dusty. My long sleeve floral silk cover duster over a silk sequins tank top, jeans and straw hat was perfect. My pup Fendi likes flowers and enjoyed seeing them up close. My friend especially liked the wagon ride and also liked the 50 acres rows of flowers, such a spectacular sight. Overall a very lovely way to spend the day. Where do I start? Came to see the color variations as there is a huge field of a flower variety and all it's colors. Before getting to the field there is interactive and educational content that you can read, see, feel and hear. The dove enclosure, the butterfly cage and the orchid greenhouse was the most impressive. I didn't mention the poinsettia display of colors I never knew existed. Their website does say to bring a hat, wear sunscreen and wear closed toed shoes as walking by foot to the flower fields is on a dirt road. There are bees, I'd say duh! Don't wear fragrant perfume or lotion as you will attract bees! There is a food garden and a pop-up business from Leucadia I had a matcha latte, they had little boho stickers for $2.00 and the girls working were super cute and kind. This is a wonderful family fun event - I recommend going there early in the morning before the crowds come and you can see the sun peak through and warm up. Take the kids, get dressed and have some really cute. Amazing pictures. During the day it does get a little bit busy, but there are some photos up areas with the fields of flowers in the background. When it gets busy, there's a line so make sure you have your photographer or camera ready. There's always workers walking around to make sure you're not stepping on the flowers or getting in too deep of the fields - they are stickler about this I like that there's a butterfly area and there is a wagon ride for the kids - you could even buy flowers bulbs on your way out. If you forget, you can always order the flower bulbs online. Just remember, you have to book your tickets in advance for a timeslot to enter. Staff is very friendly. We can plan on 3 to 4 hours here easily if you want to take a ton of pictures. You can definitely do blueberry picking from end of March to May as well-separate ticket. Definitely recommend this near Mother's Day or Easter for some cute pictures. One of my favorite places to visit in the spring is The Flower Fields in Carlsbad. It includes beautiful ranunculus flowers, a butterly habitat, an orchid nursery, pointsetta nursery, stained glass/metal artworks, dove and finch habitat, various food stands, a play area for kids, a tractor ride for those farther to reach fields and a sweet pea maze. Each year I take over 100 photographs. I just never tire of the endless color varieties within each flower. Super beautiful spot! If you've never been, this is your sign -- just go for it. We booked tickets online for a Friday, and the crowd size was very manageable -- busy but not overwhelming. You cannot buy tickets at the window. Must be online and saw some folks scanning the QR code outside. The views were absolutely stunning. So many flowers -- unbelievable and beautiful. Definitely take your time and snap lots of photos! Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a hat or umbrella, along with plenty of water. There's also an optional tractor ride for $8 with three operational stops you can hop on or off (at least during our visit). You can bring a picnic and there's tables available. Lots of folks brought outside food. They also had a few food trucks on-site, a bit on the pricey side and nothing special. Across the street is a Costco if you need to fill up on gas like we did -- and also across the street is a food hall inside the Windmill structure, which is great for grabbing a bite or cooling off after your visit. read more

Gorgeous spring activity in Carlsbad. It had been several years since I last visited the flower fields and my most recent trip reminded me just how beautiful it is. That said, I would say it's primarily just a photo opp. There aren't really any activities beyond just walking around and snapping some pictures (albeit very pretty pictures). Today, On 27APR2025, I took my girlfriend on a whole date day! This being the 2nd and our favorite stop! At or around 1000AM, we got arrived to this beautiful area and enjoyed every second and every step of it! The FOOD. We didn't eat here but there was a bunch of snack spots from popcorn to cotton candy to ice cream and some fresh squeezed delicious lemonade! The SERVICE. We entered at the "Main Entrance" next to the gardening store and the ladies that scanned our tickets were so kind and patient as I was downloading my tickets to my cellular device. We loved that! &when we were inside, the workers asked to take our pictures and gave us fun facts about the plants and it was an amazing time spent! The AMBIANCE. It's OUTDOORS! Clear skies, far views, ocean views, all of it was breathtaking and such a sight to see! I would back everyday if I could! The ONLY "downfalls" to this place is 1) the green cutouts you walk onto to get to the midst of the flowerbeds are old and could potentially be a hazard if not taken care of and 2) $27 per adult and $25 for seniors/military; don't get me wrong I appreciate the love they show for us military but I still feel as if it's pretty pricey all around. Nonetheless, if the opportunity presented itself to go, I strongly recommend taking advantage of the opportunity to go! Whether it be a family outing, a date, or even a casual stroll for yourself, you must go! There's mazes, tractor rides, a butterfly encounter, and a venue hall for event! Such a beautiful place to visit and a great place to add to your San Diego itinerary!! You can book tickets online, and even if you make a last-minute trip the day of, for the most part, you can still get tickets. This field is HUGE, and that is what I love. It is bound to happen that you will see a lot of people taking pictures, so having a huge space where you don't have to worry about long waits to take pictures or walking side by side next to people is great. Not only does the Flower Fields have their famous field of colorful flowers, they have different flower stations, activities, and food vendors. We visited The Flower Fields in Marrisa, Carlsbad CA.  Such a stunning sight!  Acres of beautiful Ranunculus flowers almost as far as you could see.  Great for all ages.  Because of the special breeding the flowers don't have bees swarming as you walk through the fields.  They have a scavenger hunt for kids that they really enjoyed. In addition to the flowers there is a natural maze to wander and get lost in, tractor rides that go around the fields (additional charge), a butterfly garden (additional charge), food vendors and a playground.  We have been to several butterfly gardens before, but this was exceptional.  There were butterflies of all sizes and colors.  As they became accustomed to you, they would land on you, your hat, your clothes and hands. Wow!!!! What a refreshing place. The day was beautiful and the flower fields were really beautiful. Tickets bought online. Thursday is senior day and the ticket price is 7$ less than the rest of the days. 27$ and 20$. Child is also discounted. There is a truck that rides but around the field. It has a few stops so youcan get off or on. The truck ride is another 8$. Walk is manageable and there are spots where you can take pics. The sweetpea maze was very cute. The Carlsbad Flower Fields was a worthwhile visit, offering plenty of activities and opportunities to take amazing photos to capture memories of your time here. I took my cousin who's visiting from outside the US, and we absolutely loved it. There were various activities you can do once you're inside that usually costs extra; the ones we did and recommend are the tractor ride ($8) and the monarch butterfly house ($5). The tractor ride gives you unlimited rides around the larger flower fields, taking you to the sunflower fields, u-pick organic blueberry patch, and north of the sweet pea maze/orchid greenhouse which makes seeing everything here a less of a slog and more of a fulfilling fun filled day. I've tried walking it out the first time I was here with my partner who's a professional athlete and it can get pretty tiring walking through the whole park. The butterfly house was magical! You can feed them nectar with soaked q-tips, allowing you to get up close and personal with them. 10/10, would come again. It's a great place for family and friends especially in spring when everything was in bloom. read more

Simply lovely! I've always wanted to visit and finally got the chance--and it didn't disappoint. The staff were absolutely sweethearts and though we didn't have time to walk the full round, the $5 tractor ride (with two hop-on/hop-off stops) was the perfect solution. A bit bumpy, but slow enough to soak in the flowers, sunshine, and charm. Scattered throughout are quirky photo ops--benches, oversized chairs, even a rustic tractor. We lucked out with a light crowd, though I've heard those photo spots can draw lines on busier days. Perfect for a date or a family outing. This is mostly a wonderful place. However, I want to beg them to close their Butterfly Encounter attraction; there are countless butterflies being mangled by careless people and children. I saw one child bat away one butterfly with the cotton swab she was given, quite forcefully. Even if it's a cotton swab, consider what it must feel like when you're the size of a butterfly. I'm also concerned about the welfare of the caged birds. I saw several doves/pigeons with nasty-looking bald spots, and another bird sitting quite listlessly on a seed wheel. Maybe those bald spots are normal, but I just read the following in birdscollector.com: "Outdoor aviaries for 2-4 pigeons should be 7ft x 4ft x 6ft minimum 8. It's best to keep 2-4 birds together, but overcrowding can cause stress and aggression. Make sure all birds can perch and move without constant competition." It seems to me the cages at the Flower Fields are very overcrowded. read more

Easy to find, lots of free parking, and okay prices. Monday is buy one adult ticket and get a child free (up to age ten). They have food options inside but I didn't try any - pizza, tamales, tacos They also have desserts - ice cream sundaes, cones, shortcakes, cotton candy , etc There is currently a butterfly pavilion (not sure if it's seasonal) and it's $5 additional. We didn't go in because it looked quite small and I didn't want to pay the additional money to be honest. There is a tractor that will take you around the massive farm to see all they have to offer and give you some facts and information along the way. It's $8.50 per adult or $4 per child. You can get on and off as many times as you'd like. It was really a good deal because the farm is massive. It is walkable but it's truly huge. They plant their ranunculus in waves so they don't all bloom at once and die. They start blooming in mid march and bloom for about ten weeks. They are 13 gorgeous colors and many photo opportunities. We even saw someone get engaged. All in all we spent about 3 hours there. read more

This is my first time visiting the Flower fields in Carlsbad. The flowers, the colors, the birds and activities were all so beautiful. I enjoyed walking around the fields of flowers, seeing the beautiful orchids, the USA flag , the cages of birds, the art decor around the grounds and the activities available to everyone. There were lots of school kids learning about composting and planting. It was a little overcast so the weather was perfect for walking. Beautiful! We spent over 3 hours at The Flower Fields. There are lots of photo ops with the beautiful fields of ranunculus. They also have a fun small maze, a sunflower field, butterfly garden, tractor ride, food trucks, playground, and face painting. Tickets are sold online and check in was a breeze. Parking lot was packed and we ended up parking next door at the outlet mall. There is no re-entry so we are inside but next time we will eat at the outlet mall. Food was a little pricey and not so great. I paid $10 for a bone dry sandwich for my lunch. The restrooms were clean and once you get into the field, it didn't feel full at all. The tractor ride was a nice and easy way to see the entire field. They also play an audio about the field so you get to learn more about it too. read more

It's a beautiful San Diego annual staple, however, $81 for 2 adult and 12 year old (11 and above is considered an adult) is too much. It's a place where you can take photos and people watch for maybe an hour. Tickets are only online. We had a question regarding timing of the tickets and went to their customer service booth. There was no one else in line and the lady was rude - no customer service. No smile. No, "have a great time." I specifically wanted to visit the butterfly encounter. And it was small or perhaps felt small because there were too many people. It's an extra $5 to enter. When you purchase the tickets you're not told there's 10-15 minutes maximum time. You go to another line to get a QTIP with butterfly nectar and again not told the time limit. It wasn't until 5 minutes in the exhibit you hear a voice yelling over the time limit. And by that time, people were obviously not paying close attention because they were already focused on the butterflies and taking photos. And it was packed. Too packed. It was a weekday when we went, so can't imagine how packed it gets over the weekend. They need to rethink how to do better for the butterflies. I mean for the encounter to be in a "flower field" there weren't much flowers for the butterflies to rest on. Sad. Last time I visited was 2016. Would I visit again...I'm sure. For my love of flowers and bright spring colors, I will make it back again 2034. read more

How could you not love the flower fields? As a lifetime local, I love to come visit every few years to see the new blooms up close! I grew up coming here for field trips to learn about their flowers and growing process and loved every second of it! I'm so glad they still offer this program. Now, they offer even more at the flower fields with glass art installations with flowers, the butterfly enclosures, the strawberry shack, food stands, face painting, live music, etc. It's great for all ages alike and enough activities for the entire family! The flower fields are always breathtaking with their mixture of different color ranunculus flowers. I love seeing the mixed flowers (multiple colors in one row) and any rows of purple flowers. They grow the flowers around designated photo areas so you don't crush any flowers when taking photos. You can always go to other sections of the flower fields if the section at the entrance is busy as almost each row has an option for its own photo entrance. Be aware it does book out, so make sure to book your tickets for a designated time slot ahead of time online! What a breathtaking place to stroll and take in the beauty of San Diego (Carlsbad to us locals)! I would suggest going on a weekday afternoon to avoid the crowds of school tours and family weekends. You can easily spend 2-3+ hours there with all the different places to visit, aside from walking amongst the gorgeous flowers. The butterfly encounter was fun ($5/person) and the glass sculpture garden was a highlight. This nature spot that celebrates the start of Spring and ends on Mother's Day weekend is a unique San Diego gem. It's as iconic for the N. County residents as the Coronado Bridge is to the Downtown folks. read more

Iconic and most beautiful place on the way to San Diego. Went there with my kids and the best part was the wagon. Went stayed on because we didn't want to walk. It was pretty hot. Only things I would recommend is bring comfortable shoes, lots of water (we spent over $20 on like 5 waters 16oz) and have a sun umbrella if you're a diva! iPhone 17 Pro takes the best pics of this place so if you have one of those have your kid snap the pic, my son did and he's a pro at it! We really enjoyed it the food has food trucks similar to a carnival, nothing too spectacular so bring snacks if you can to save the cash. read more

Had a great time here with family and the flowers were really beautiful! Got to see a dance performance by kids from a school too. The tractor ride is a fun ride to see the entire field. The USA flag was a little underwhelming because you need to be at a good height to see the pattern. The butterfly place inside was also fun and there were many different varieties of butterfly and we got to see so many up close and they come sit on you. Lots of food options were present and washrooms too. Would definitely recommend to start early as it gets crowded from the afternoon. There is plenty of parking space available too and you can buy tickets directly from the website or on the spot too. read more

This is a great place to visit in Carlsbad from March to May. Make sure you purchase tickets online before you come. The Fields cover an area of fifty-five acres, so wear good shoes. They also have wagon tours for an additional $8 for adults and $4 for children. The flowers are absolutely beautiful. You can take very nice photos with such views. The flowers are clearly blocked off in some areas so people don't step on them, but there are designated areas with benches for photo opportunities. However, I did see two very annoying girls going over the line (these people can cause damage to the flowers!); they should be charged a fine! read more
