Friday happy hour is a gem. Large beer selection on draft. Margaritas on point (they did run out of frozen mix though, only reason i didnt give 5 stars ). Honey siracha shrimp tacos were out of this world and huge. Easily 2 meals. Fries were extra crispy and the queso was obviously from scratch. Fried goat cheese with pepper jelly appetizer was a hit. This is my 2nd time here. I had a good experience the first time with the BBQ. I figured I go with their chicken tenders this time since I saw someone with a plate. They were amazing the mac and cheese was on point very creamy and cheesy. The server was very attentive and made sure our cups stayed full. The atmosphere was crowded and noisy and the bar area was packed. They have a good happy hour that runs later than most and I will have to try it. It is a little pricey but the quality of the food is very good. It does get very crowded between 6 and 8 so be ready to wait if you show up around that time you won't even find a spot at the bar to wait for a table. All in all I've had 2.good experiences here and will definitely be back for a 3rd and more. Try the Flying pig out you won't regret it read more

Mediocre at best. That is the only way I can describe it and that's being kind. A few reviews I read were right on. As for the glowing reviews and 5 star ratings? I really don't know where they came from but they most certainly weren't talking about this same restaurant. For starters the young blonde with the blue streaks in her hair was going to seat us at the high top table by the bar without even asking if this was okay. We asked if we could have a booth but she rolled her eyes and made a face and proceeded to sit us at a regular table. We again asked for a booth since there were 4 open. She again rolled her eyes and made that same face. Our waitress was nice enough, another young blonde, I think its all they hire. My boyfriend had shrimp tacos with no cheese and the black beans. He had a few small over cooked shrimp on each taco. It was supposed to have cabbage but only had a few small pieces on each taco. The black beans were the only good part of the meal. They were really good. I had the grilled chicken taco with no cheese. Our waitress verified no cheese as she wrote the order down. I asked about the cheese sauce and the waitress said it was a white cheese sauce like the kind in Mexican restaurants. I asked for this on the side. When I received my food it had more cheese than anything else even though I asked for no cheese. The chicken was over cooked and dry. The cheese sauce was at least on the side but it looked and tasted like melted Velveeta cheese with hamburger meat in it. Not at all what she described. It was pretty disgusting. Again mine only had a few small sparse pieces of cabbage. The pineapple coleslaw was okay but I didn't taste any pineapple. My iced tea had bits of what looked like brown paper towels at the bottom. No this was not tea leaves it was paper. The tea was good though and our waitress brought us extra lemons when we asked for them. The staff seated a party of 5 adults and a baby with a highchair in a booth. They put the highchair and an additional seat at the end of the table. It looked pretty cramped. The patrons asked if they could be moved to a regular table. There were 4 open. Their waitress asked the greeter with the blue streaks who was in charge of seating if they could move. She said no and a few more unintelligible things that were too low for us to hear. This restaurant has a lot to learn about customer service. They are not accommodating at all and our food was not good. We will not be back. read more

Wednesdays is half off burger night and half off wine bottle night! I got the natural burger with fries. The burger was nice and juicy and the special sauce was a type of relish. The barbecue sauces on the side are homemade and tasty. Ask for the ghost pepper barbecue sauce. They make it here and it is sweet with a nice kick. The fries were battered fresh and nice and crispy. Definitely seemed like there were regulars who were treated very different than walk ins. Took about 25 minutes to order and get a draft beer. We ordered appetizers they never came. Asked them to remove them from the bill. Started on the main dish, and then they said our apps were ready if we wanted them. Seated directly butted up to the hostess desk, as this "was all they had", the restaurant was 80% empty on a Saturday at 3 pm. A woman slipped as soon as she walked in the bar, and who I think is the manager stood there, nothing done. Food really just ok, not worth the troubles. read more

I would say, The Flyin' Pig is a staple of the Midlothian area. The BBQ is excellent and the happy hour on Fridays is awesome! If I'm remembering correctly it's from 3pm-9pm. While their Limeades and Hushpuppies are to die for ... ...the BBQ and Ribs were very disappointing - Even after smothering the pulled pork and chicken in the Flyin' Pig's interesting array of sauces, none of us could finish the meal. The House Salad was beautifully plated and delicious, but the Cornbread was served cold and their Wings were just so-so. However, our server, Jacob, was delightful and couldn't have been more helpful in his efforts to please. The lunch specials are priced right and the draft beer list is pretty good, but the food isn't great. The pulled pork sandwich was served on a Sarah Lee bun fresh out of a grocery store 8-pack. The pork itself was inoffensive but not memorable. I did enjoy the black beans, which had some nice heat and a hint of coconut. I appreciate that they served three gratis cornbread mini-muffins with my meal, but they tasted like something out of a box mix. Not great. Not awful. A solid 3-star experience. read more

50 billion stars! Went there today for lunch with my mom and grandfather and was extremely satisfied with the food. They bring out complementary cornbread muffins and butter, with is quite tasty. We order fried pickles for an appetizer which were very good (I am a sucker for fried pickles) Mom and I shared a sampler platter, which had pulled chicken, pulled pork, and ribs, and we chose sweet potato fries as our side. Both the pork and the chicken were excellent and seasoned well, not needing any sauce to give it flavor (IMO, if you have to add sauce, then it's not good bbq). I had the Bill BQ burger and the wife had the smokehouse burger. The burger had great flavor the only issue I had was the burger was not hot and the fries were cold and I'm not sure why. We also had the cheesesteak egg rolls which were amazing. I will probably go back for those and try some of the other menu items. my wife had the key lime pie but she did not care for it. overall this place is very nice and its in my neighborhood so that is a plus as well. read more

We discovered this barbecue restaurant through Yelp after looking for a place to have a late lunch and kill time on a recent Saturday while our dogs were being groomed. We liked it so much that we returned the next Friday evening for dinner. We had excellent meals at both visits but two vastly different experiences. Saturday's lunch began with delicious hush puppies accompanied by warmed honey butter. We found the barbecue -- pulled, added to tacos and inside a burrito -- to be some of the best around, succulent, smoky and perfectly seasoned. Sides ranged from a side salad with delicious ranch dressing to cole slaw with pineapple. We loved the variety of sauces served up in a Budweiser pack, from the sweet sugar cane to my personal favorite, the cackalacky, a sweet and pungent mustard blend. Our server was delightful and attentive, coming back several times to check on us and gauge our reactions to the food. We were each sold on desserts based on her excellent recommendations, including a tart, refreshing key lime pie and a cinnamon bun bread pudding that was so large we took it home and ate it for breakfast the next morning. Our Friday night visit was less enthralling. The food was amazing -- I had a half rack of ribs that were so tender the meat fell from the bone. Homemade macaroni and cheese and a loaded baked potato were tasty additions. There were many problems. We noticed after sitting down that there were a lot of flies in the restaurant. Our server, one of the many fresh-faced blonde girls the Flyin' Pig seems to favor, was something of a sour puss from the get-go. Other servers brought waters to their tables without diners asking; we had to ask for ours. We had our food served but no barbecue sauces arrived. We asked the young man who brought our food over for the sauces but they never arrived. We asked our server for sauces and it was quite a wait for a restaurant that features its signature sauces on its website. We got the impression that she didn't like us. The check arrived and there was no offer of dessert. It was only after the receipt arrived that we got a "is there anything else I can get you" offer, way too little too late. We couldn't help but compare the Flyin' Pig to one of our favorite restaurants, Hogshead Cafe. Hogshead is a much smaller venue with a much more limited menu, but we have never left there feeling anything but absolutely welcomed by their small staff. The Flyin' Pig's barbecue is superior to Hogshead's, but the decision of which direction to go in next time was made a little easier thanks to the buzz kill service, which is a pity. read more

Was in Town for business and decided to check this place out. Was pretty busy and I thought that was a good sign. They were busy but not too busy where it should have it taken 10 minutes for someone to get me a glass of water. I had a waitress in training which was no big deal, as I have trained many new waitresses myself. I will have to say that this was my worst experience with a trainer or a trainee I have had. The trainer kept interrupting the trainee I couldn't understand what either one of them were saying nor did they pay much attention to what I was saying. Let's just say it was a difficult ordering process. Then my dinner salad came out before my appetizer, which means she either forgot to put in the app or the kitchen messed it up. Either way, subpar service. I also noticed a LOT of standing around and socializing ( not working) by all the wait staff by the computer( as I was sitting right next to it) no one had come to take my drink order and they are making late night but plans loud enough so I can hear it All in all food was decent, fried pickles were too breaded for my taste, but my burger and Hubby's wings were good. I had two sides Mac & Cheese & baked beans, both awesome. The Cole slaw has pineapple chips & for a change was good. Kat had the BBQ Sammie too. We split the Mac & each had great baked beans. I had gone there multiple times in the past and the food was quite good. Burger night was a date night for myself and my significant other. Great burgers at half price on Wed evenings. Last night we decided to go again... however when I received my check I noticed the burgers had not been discounted. When I brought it to the servers attention he stated that ownership had changed the special very recently and that only the basic burger and the burger of the month were half off. As he says this I look at the sign on the wall designating the weekly specials and knew darn well I looked at the website that very day and neither stated these changes. The server essentially stated "my bad... I should have mentioned it." The manager was even less help and offered only a half hearted apology... HELL WILL FREEZE OVER BEFORE I WOULD EVER RETURN. One can only hope "the owners" who made this petty change are strapped for cash and this place will go out of business soon. To the manager... take 5 bucks and go to Kinkos. This is a great place for BBQ and beer. They have a lot of different beers on tap, they have a lot of good BBQ offerings on the menu, I am particularly fond of the Ultimate Brisket sandwich or the pulled pork plate. They make a good 4 cheese Mac & cheese and pineapple cole slaw. Nice touch with the pineapple. They have TV's and it could be a good sports bar as well as a good BBQ joint! It has a great atmosphere and friendly clientele and a decent bar. The only thing they need to improve upon is the WINE selection. I know a BBQ joint is not necessarily known for wine but I'm a wino and I frequent places with good wine and I doubt that I'm unique in that feeling. The wines here are neither common or desirable. If this place had decent wine I'd be there twice a week every week for dinner and no telling how often for happy hour! read more

Okay, y'all. Being from Texas aka the BBQ capital I was slightly disappointed. Let me start by saying that they do have a nice craft beer selection though. As for food, the Buffalo Pulled chicken dip was actually decent, even though you really couldn't taste the chicken over all the buffalo sauce. The BBQ baked potato with brisket was... different, but not terrible, just nothing like I've ever had before. I would definitely go back and try their wings, since I over heard the waiter after getting the tab that they are some of the best in VA. We shall see. read more

The Wedge salad and cheese steak eggrolls are good. The Ribs are not great and the hushpuppies are greasy and they actually provided horrible melted butter. It was like it sat out all day or something. Don't get take out there at all. Possibly eating inside may be better because if the food sucks you can get people there to help you or fix the issue. I won't order pick up again at all. The service was good when we ate inside. I gave it only 2 stars because the prices are high as well as the carryout being nasty. read more

Our church group goes out every week after worship. We have a bag that we choose restaurants and this week was The Flying Pig. This is our second time through and this time we really enjoyed it. We got the fried pickles and I Ishmael they had chips instead of slices, just preference, but they weren't bad. I got the Buffalo chicken salad and it was well seasoned and got just the right amount of dressing without having to ask for more. My son got the kids grilled cheese which he really enjoyed as it didn't come on typical white bread. The place is a bit loud if your looking for a place to have a quiet conversation. There are tvs everywhere, so if you are a sports fan there is plenty to keep.your eyes jumping all around the room. Not good for the woman who wants to keep.her husband's attention. I recently visited The Flyin' Pig restaurant and I would NOT recommend this to anyone. I ordered the chicken and queso tacos, but once I started eating them I was very disturbed to find a hair dangling from my mouth. We immediately got our waitress over to take the tacos away and she offered to bring a new order out. After we asked if the tacos would be taken off of the order because of the hair, the waitress said she would talk to the manager to see what she could do. She came back out and told us that nothing could be done and the tacos would stay on our check. We asked to speak to the manager, but they refused to speak to us because of "short staffing." We were told that the only way we could take the tacos off of the check was if she took the ones she had just given us back. The new tacos were untouched, so I'm wondering if they gave them to the next person who ordered them. If they were going to throw them away, why couldn't we have just kept them? Overall, I am very disappointed in this experience and the management at The Flyin' Pig. read more

Heading home from vacation and needed a restaurant to grab dinner at close to the hotel. We found this place and really glad we did! The food was delicious....started with the hush puppies and award winning chili. Hush puppies were spot on and cooked perfectly, the chili lived up to its reputation! Then we split the BBQ pork and chicken sandwiches. The chicken was very good but the pork was the winner - and make sure you add their southern cane sauce. Really loved the blue cheese and bacon potato salad and the bourbon and ginger cocktail. The perfect compliment to the food was the service - our server Logan was top notch! He answered all of our questions and brought the perfect level of attention (we were lucky to catch him as he's headed back to college after today)! We'll definitely be back when we're in this area again for some great food and maybe we'll be lucky enough that Logan will be on break! read more
