Everything was waaaaay to salty. We had the ceaser salad. The dressing though it was presented beautifully you couldn't help but wince and pucker at having your tongue covered in salt. The shrimp and grits were sadly done. The grits clumpy, thick and undercooked. Good flavor just poorly cooked. The shrimp and sauce sadly drowning in salt again. Main entree the chicken. Oh man the saddest part of the meal. The chicken was so beautifully cooked, tender and juicy, but dear lord lose the sauce. If you arnt turned off by the pounds of salt in it you will be turned away by the poor use of fermentation like ingredient that made it taste foul. (Pun not intend). I had to scrab off all the salt to appreciate how wonderfully cooked the chicken was on it's own. Simplicity would do this resturant well. This could be a good resturant if they laid off the heavy sauces and pounds of salt. And oh man even the rolls! Stop with the Salt!! They have a good base just taste before you serve becuase the restaurant has potential just not there yet. read more

I am giving 5 stars for reasons beyond the fact that they have $2 beers on happy hour. Including one of my favorites - Stone IPA! Interior is very comfortable (even the bathroom). Food was great as was dessert and service. We had dinner on a saturday around 6 - the place was pretty empty so I hope you try it and help keep them in business. read more

A gem in the woods! I travel to Bham a couple of times a year and eat at The Fork at least twice every trip. If you are a "Foodie" you want to try this place out. The highlights of my last trip were the Shrimp and Grits appi and the Duck Confit with Huckleberry Sauce. They have a good wine list and a nice selection of Washington microbrews on tap. I loved this place!!! Best in Bellingham- great atmosphere, kind and knowledgeable service (the server was the young man with a hurt hand), and wonderful food and beverage choices. The Fork is a mixed bag. On one hand they have a nice decor and atmosphere, yet they have some slow service. They also have damn fine Fire Bread Pizza, yet their Burgers lack continuity and flavor. Its safe to say they try real hard to make this place something different. It works with the Pizza not with the Burgers. If The Fork went all out as an upscale pizza place and had more attentive servers they would be a Five Star Restaurant for sure. read more

I have done lunch and dinner, both excellent. The Cobb salad is a healthy meal. The hanger steak excellent. But remember, grass fed beef is a little different than US Grade A hormone/antibiotic/tortured beef. Reasonably priced for this quality of food. Worth the drive out. read more

Super nice homey feel when you walk inside. I was seated immediately even though it seemed a little busy. The beignets are amazing and they come with 3 sauces (chocolate syrup, raspberry sauce and like a creamy vanilla butterscotch sauce). I have only had dinner here but I really enjoyed it. I found it a little bit more expensive than my liking but it really was worth it. I also came on Mother's Day so I'm not sure if the menu was changed a bit for the occasion or? When it was recommended to me, the person who told me about it mentioned different items than what was listed on the menu when I went. BUT all in all, it's a great atmosphere, the service was great and the food was top-notch. I wish it wasn't so far from my house because the happy hour sounds great! read more

My wife and I come to The Fork whenever we can. It's a pleasant drive "out to the country" and we just love getting away from town to enjoy some of the best food in Bellingham. Breakfasts are always tasty, and I've been a longstanding fan of their chicken-fried steak (although the Spätzle has been my latest obsession, which may be seasonal). The shrimp and grits is always great as well. They seem to change up the menu every so often, which is always welcome, even though some of my favorite meals are not on the latest dinner menu. Embarrassing. Last night my husband I chose to take our recently widowed neighbor out to dinner. She had never been to The Fork and we decided through our positive past experiences here, that this would be a nice opportunity for her. Sadly this was not a positive experience and my husband and I are now embarrassed. It started out with the hostess trying to sway us to sit in the bar, when it was five minutes to five and no one else was in the dining room. I politely asked that we be offered a table in the dining room and was met with a "let me look at our reservations book." After a moment of pondering and looking at her watch" we were granted with the opportunity of sitting in the dining room. The menu was surprisingly limited and repetitive. Our past experiences always had a nice variety of options to meet any taste. The theme of the evening seemed to be pork, even the specials. No fish, beef, or chicken options, which seemed unusual. The poor server was even surprised about the offerings. Our little neighbor was trying to be gracious and polite about her options, and ultimately ordered a pepperoni pizza. Not exactly the formal dining experience we were trying to give her, especially since she had just told us she had eaten pizza for lunch. I truly wanted to leave at that point. The final straw for me was when my scallops appetizer arrived. The presentation was lovely in a nice three section dish, in which each section housed a scallop. The problem was two of my three scallops were no bigger than a watch battery, which prompted a giggle of disbelief from my neighbor. In the interest of not making the evening any more uncomfortable, I chose to eat what was there, rather than send them back. We finished our meal and left without saying a word about our experience. My husband and I felt embarrassed about our choice of venue, thus making the car ride home awkward and uncomfortable. I am still in disbelief this morning and am questioning whether we will go back there again, especially with company. read more

I have been going here ever since it opened and have had so many inconsistent experiences, Sunday's dinner was no exception. We started with the scallops which were served on a three compartment dish, each was nested in a pile of seasoned seaweed and topped with aioli. It was very tasty but while it did say they were bay scallops even I was shocked at how small they were, like the size of my thumbnail (and that is being kind). The porterhouse chop was very good, it was large, brined and cooked perfectly. The butternut squash pappardelle was supposed to have morels but did not come out with any (very disappointing) was under seasoned and had so many undercooked fiddlehead fern pieces in it I thought I was lost in the forest. The halibut was cooked perfectly but came with a rather uninspiring and bland corn and under cooked potato salad and the ramp butter that was on the halibut was under seasoned too. Dessert was the bright spot, they had a delicious buttermilk pie (the filling was custard like) with rhubarb and caramel sauce and a very moist and tasty lemon bread pudding. The wine list and service were excellent. But at $30 dollars an entrée I expect for my food to be seasoned to perfection and not undercooked. read more

We've dined at the Fork two times. The first time we entertained guests from Vancouver BC and had a more formal style dinner. We're all lovers of fine food and were impressed with the high quality of service, excellent specialty cocktails, delicious and creative appetizers (the outstanding nearly all crab crab cakes with sweet and spicy mustard sauce, southern shrimp and grits, amazing mac & cheese spring rolls!) and generous entrees (double cut pork chop, delicate bouillabaisse, NY steak with duck fat fingering potatoes, delicious vegan charred cauliflower & giant white bean meal). On our second visit my husband and I had just walked the lake trail and then sat at the bar and ate happily off the happy hour and regular menu. Again we were so impressed with the quality of food and service! Yum to the wood fired roasted cauliflower with harissa coconut curry, and the grilled rabbit loin with pumpkin seed gremolata with manchego & fresh fig. Love the vegan entree options!! We immediately relaxed and felt at home in this upscale neighborhood restaurant. The drive from La Conner was well worth it, beautiful and relaxing - if we lived in Bellingham we would visit the Fork at least a couple of times a week. We will be back often! read more

Wow! I've been by this restaurant dozens of times on my bike and wondered if it was any good. Now I know. It's awesome. We shared the grilled sockeye salmon salad. It was quite good. I had the 10 Napkin Ribs and they were exceptional. The honey sambal glaze was delicious and the ribs were cooked perfectly. It could have been a little spicier for me. My partner had the spinach linguine and she really liked it. It was very healthy and fresh. She did not opt for clams on it. It was the best dining experience we've had in Bellingham. While the wine menu was not large, the wines appear to have been carefully selected and the prices were not bad. The service was great, prices fair, large portions, comfortable and classy atmosphere. Amazing little find near Bellingham. Ambiance was class but relaxed and food was to die for. Had an amazing pork loin that was so tender and flavorful. One of the best I've ever had. Bartender was very knowledgeable about local beers and wines, and hikes! Very friendly staff. Liked it so much we went back the next day, after our hike, to try other menu items. read more

One of my favorites for Saturday or Sunday brunch. When it's on the menu, the soft polenta is exceptional (served with eggs). My favorite, and usual choice is the portobello mushroom sandwich on brioche roll with salad, asparagus, goat cheese, sweet pickled cabbage. So good. Have also been here for dinner, and that was also enjoyable, but not as memorable (for me) as brunch (my favorite meal of the day anyway)! read more

This place is magical! My husband and I stopped here after a hike for lunch. The restaurant is beautiful and I'd describe the service as friendly professional. They played my favorite Shakey Graves song while we were there! I had the portobello burger and my husband had the regular burger and the soup of the day (smoked salmon chowder!). I was really looking forward to eating at the Fork, and have heard nothing but rave reviews, so my husband and I took my parents there for breakfast on Sunday morning. I called in advance on Saturday and was told I could not make a reservation, but arriving between 10-10:30 would be a good time. We got there at 10:15 and even with the small amount of available tables as it is, there were 2 x 4-tops open, and one 6-top. The hostess told us to wait, so we moved over to allow another couple to enter behind us, followed by a separate party of a mother and son. The hostess bypassed our group and sat both parties of 2 who arrived after us at the 4 tops, and told us the table of 6 was held for a reservation, however, we could sit at the bar or wait 45 minutes for a table. We are very laid back folks, and I have worked in the restaurant industry for years so I understand the ebb and flow of busy mornings. If it was just my husband and I we would have sat at the bar, but my mother has a bad hip and wouldn't be comfortable in the high seats and we weren't about to wait 45 minutes after just being snubbed 2 tables. Disappointed, we left and went to Little Cheerful for a very delicious, satisfying, filling breakfast with excellent service and a price tag likely half the price we would have paid at the Fork. I would love to try it some day, but sadly this has left a bad taste in my mouth for now. read more

Soon will be trying out the dinner menu. The food is fresh, seasonal and simple but just enough unusual flavor pairings to make it interesting and unique. Once my husband and I ordered a salad to share and it wasn't until the server walked away that we noticed it didn't look like the salad we ordered. We took a bite anyway and we both fell silent with how good this salad was. We asked the server what she had brought us and she realized she accidentally brought the work meal the chef and made for her. It was just something he threw together and it was the best salad I've ever had! We told her to tell the chef to put it on the menu! read more

Over the years, the menu always seems to be the same. No specials. Started with Dungeness crab bisque - a lot of cream and no discernible crab, or crab flavor. Had a little corn which was nice. Halibut looked the best and the most expensive, so worth a try. Nice piece of halibut, sorely overcooked. No sauce to aid in getting this dry stuff down. Served on a potato pancake that tasted like pan fried potato and nothing else. (Isn't there supposed to be something in there to give this some flavor?) "Bundle of green beans" came along- haricots verts undercooked and unseasoned. Four little mushrooms adrift on the edges of this plate were the highlight. Someone should be paying more attention to what is coming out on the plates. Not fine dining. As our time went by we noticed that they seemed to be serving more pizza than anything else.
