The Foxtail apparently is a place I had passed by many times and didn't know it. It's almost like a speakeasy although it's not, I just didn't know about it, and it's right there, downtown. I'm so glad we went, there wasn't anything but greatness on the menu. All that was had was happily shared, maybe hesitantly because I wanted more. When I arrived, I was seated quickly. The restaurant was not busy, but it took 20 minutes for someone to come by. It definitely shouldn't have taken that long to get someone to stop by. The server was very kind and apologized for what happened. The taleggio flatbread was delicious. The mushroom, honey, cheese, arugula combination was not something I've had before. It was very unique and I recommend it. I also had the chicken omelette with potatoes. It was salty for my taste. I'm not sure if the chicken was overly salted or the combination of ingredients made it salty. My friend had the jumbo lump crab omelette and said it was okay. Brought my mother in law and husband here for brunch to celebrate their birthdays. it was the weekend but not busy at all during the time we came. Very pretty interior place. I was a little disappointed by their brunch menu as there were limited breakfast items and most of the items were lunch/dinner. For example my breakfast sandwich came with fries which didn't really go well together. I really would have wished that they had breakfast potatoes as the option on the side instead. I was pleasantly surprised by this local restaurant. The interior is nicely decorate and more modern. The menu is pretty large and the Asian items kind of threw me off. I purposely stuck to the Mediterranean options. The grilled octopus and hummus appetizer were very good. My husband enjoyed the brick chicken. I'm a bit picky, but it would have been nice to see the potatoes prepared a little differently from each other in the brick chicken and octopus dishes. I didn't expect the beef shawarma to be served looking like a taco, but it was really tasty. They are kid-friendly, which is always a plus for us, however, my toddler wasn't loving the red pepper flavor in the kids mac and cheese. Sarah M took wonderful care of us on a special dinner. Our first time here, and we'll be back. We shared a beef &lamb kabob. Ingredients tasted so fresh, this was our fav. We also got the paella and brick chicken- very excellent options and serving sizes were spot on for us. The space was mostly full of diners, but the noise level seemed lower than most places-very much appreciated, as well as the background music. The Mediterranean /asian restaurant at Main street Downers Grove, IL We made the reservation for Tuesday 7:30pm. The hummus and veggie appetizer was tasty, lamb and beef kafta were on dry side, the sauce which came with the porkchop was very flavorful with mashed potatoes and grilled brocollinni. My coworker's grilled salmon was perfectly cooked medium well. There should have been less tomato sauce for the halibut dish. My draft beer was hoppy as recommend by our server. It's was Sunday night and we did a walk in with my wife and son. It's a busy place, but we got seated promptly. Our server with Sarah. She got everything going after a little mixed with who was taking our order. I would highly recommend the raw oysters as appetizers. They were fresh and tasty. He also had the chicken shawarma egg rolls as appetizer. They were a southwest type of flavor. For our entrée, we had 2 Poké Bowls and Burrata Salad. Everything tasted wonderful. For dessert we had the tahini dream bars & Key lime cheesecake. The dream bars were just that....a dream. I would highly recommend them. This is a go to place and we will return. It's been a long time since my partner and I have both agreed that a restaurant is 5/5 stars without hesitation. The Foxtail really impressed us! At first, we were a little thrown off because there's no happy hour menu, you just have to ask the server and they'll tell you what's available. But it's weird not being able to look at descriptions/prices lol. We ended up getting two beers, Greek fries, and a dozen oysters before happy hour ended. 12 oysters for $21!!! I think it's half off oysters during HH (correct me if I'm wrong), but we thought it was a good deal and they were sooo refreshing. The ponzu sauce was *chef's kiss* complimented the oysters perfectly. We also ordered a salmon poke bowl and pistachio flatbread. I'm usually reluctant to order poke at fancy restaurants since it's not uncommon to get skimped on the fish, but they actually have a good amount! We were super pleased. Star of the meal though, the PISTACHIO FLATBREAD. Holy crap, that might've been the best flatbread I've ever had. It had everything - savory from the mortadella, sweetness from the honey, texture, chewy with a crunchy crust. We want to come back specifically for the flatbread. Paired the food with an old fashioned and Lost in Japan sparkling cocktail. The cocktail was perfect, not too sweet or sour, very refreshing, I could definitely knock back a couple of those. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, such a pretty place to enjoy a meal. Initially I came to Foxtail at my son's request for a nice lunch with my kids. We loved it so much we came back about two weeks later with Dad. The menu is a delightful mix of ingredients that are so familiar, but not usually put together in the ways the chef's at Foxtail put them together. For example, on our first trip I order the Pistachio Flatbread for lunch which featured Mortadella, pistachios, brie, motzarella, watercress and a honey drizzle. It turns out we all loved it and turned into an appetizer order on our second trip. On our first trip we sampled the dessert menu, and let me tell you it did not disappoint!! We ordered a cheesecake with raspberry drizzle and a pistachio graham cracker crust, a slice of carrot cake that could only be described as uniquely spiced and delectable, and a sesame vanilla bar which had a hint of spice served with vanilla ice cream. None of these desserts were standard order or run of the mill. I have included pics of each and they all underscore the attention to detail and a unique culinary experience that Foxtail seems to stake their claim on. Another reason I am giving them 5 stars is that on our first trip my daughter ordered a Salmon Poke Bowl. Inadvertently they brought her the Shrimp Poke Bowl. She started to mix it together when she realized it was the wrong item and she doesn't eat shrimp. The waiter from a different area saw the look on her face and came over to check on us. He asked the typical "How is everything?" To which I replied "Fine" and then he turned to her and said "What about for you?" She reluctantly admitted the issue and he immediately told her not to worry, the proper one was on its way. Within 5 minutes she had the proper Poke Bowl and we were asked if anyone else at the table would eat the original order. My son said he would and it was packed up for us to take home. The ambiance of the restaurant is bright, hip and fun without being overly loud. There is also a lovely outdoor seating area, too. This is not the least expensive restaurant around, however you get what you pay for and I had no qualms with either of our bills because each time the personalized service and fantastic food presented an experience that was well worth the price. read more

I was finally able to find availability for a Saturday night reservation. We were seated right away on high top seats near the bar area. This was a little too small and uncomfortable since there wasn't enough space on the table for the dishes. Inside was nice, busy, loud, and the vibe was lively. Our server attended to us immediately and was very pleasant. As soon as we got our drink and food orders, the wait for everything to be served was good. On this visit, I tried: BRICK OVEN ROASTED CAULIFLOWER- good PACIFIC HALIBUT- delicious ROCCA SALAD (I added KEFTA KABOB)- outstanding Everything that I've tried was satisfying and delicious. The drinks were decent as well. The only downside was that there was a DJ at the corner of the restaurant playing that evening. The music was very loud that I felt like everyone had to yell at each other in order to have a conversation. I thought that the place was a little on the classier side because it definitely wasn't fast food pricing, BUT, the DJ was playing rap music. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind rap music at all but, I wouldn't mind if it was past dinner time. Maybe the place turns into a party place with dancing involved, but it was 7pm. If I wanted loud rap music, I could have gone to a pub nearby. It would have been nice if we enjoyed the overall experience. Anyway I would go back for the food, maybe at an earlier time though. Good wine options. there were some great options on the menu the first time, but I liked the menu less the second visit. The service is so-so. Growing up in Naperville, and frequently visiting downers grove as a child, I was surprised to see this restaurant on the Main Street of town! This restaurant is super modern and hip! Very high ceilings and big windows to take in the view of town! We went on a Tuesday at 530pm and the restaurant was filling up! I was happy that we made reservations as the place was booked by the time we left! Given the high ceilings, the place does get loud! The restaurant is a little cramped. The guy behind me kept bumping in to me! The restaurant has low tables, high tops, bar seating and booths for romantic nights! I suggest a booth if you want some space. The bar if you want to be in the action. The food was good but not great. We had tagine: which was not a standard recipe. The vegetables were weak. In Morocco this is the best dish in the world with fresh vegetables. We also had octopus, kinda crunchy. Not too impressive! The drink menu was extensive. My drink was super good and had unexpected taste. My friend had a mock cocktail, which looked good. My first time here and this place was incredible. If you like Mediterranean food then highly recommend this place. Had the shrimp saganaki which was so good. Would have thought they would have lit it on fire like they do at most restaurants when you get saganaki. The burrata wedge salad was also very tasty added the lamb and beef kefta kabob to the salad which made it even better. The ambiance at this place is so cute inside and they have a really fancy bar that is huge. Since it was my mom's birthday our server gave us which was a blonde brownie with ice cream it was one of the best desserts I ever had, but did not see this offered on the menu. My husband and I came here for Valentine's Day. We came the day after, but wanted to celebrate. Upon walking inside, the decor is very rustic and cool. They have a mural of the woods surrounding the tables which was warm. The color scheme was white with darker colors mixed in which gave it a very modern, yet homey feel. Everything was in good condition. We were seated right away and our server introduced himself to us rather quickly. For our drinks, I ordered a special, the Burning Love. It was sweet and spicy. For our appetizer, we got the pork belly bruschetta. I thought this was very unique! They give you a huge chunk of pork belly. It went very well with the tomato base for the bruschetta. It was extremely tasty. For my entree, I got the pan seared grouper with beurre blanc sauce and potatoes. If I am being honest, my fish was a little dry, but the beurre blanc sauce was fantastic. It completely enhanced the dish. It said there was tarragon, so I was a little nervous about the flavor being too licorice-y. It wasn't. There was a perfect balance of all the flavors. For dessert, we ended up going to another place, so we just ended with the white chocolate martini with pistachio. It was also very good... and they did not jip on the alcohol.
