Service, ambience, food .....everything wonderful, every single time we are here we leave happy

Having just moved to the area, we stopped in with our dog a few Sunday's ago. Such a wonderful outside - with two rows of tables - even some in the grass that were perfect for the dog. We started with the GARLIC LABNEH - which is just garlic / yogurt with pita. It was really good - and had a nice kick of garlic. I got the BURRATA WEDGE salad and added a kefka kabob. I would try the shrimp next time. I'm a sucker for anything that is blue cheese - especially a vinaigrette. Very good. My husband got the shrimp poke bowl and loved it. There were so many different options to try here - we will definitely be back. read more

Run, don't walk to The Foxtail. This is my new favorite brunch spot in the burbs. I almost didn't want to share this review and keep FT all to myself! City vibes, food and service in a suburban setting with VERY reasonable prices. One would expect to find this spot downtown, not in Downers--but am so happy they are! Vaulted ceilings, greenery and cool music set the scene for a lovely meal. Service was on point--attentive but not overbearing. Food was delicious. Highly recommend the shrimp cocktail--so fresh! I came from downtown to join a friend who lives out near this area. It was such a nice surprise to see this bustling main street filled with boutiques and restaurants. The hostess was very accommodating when I called to push my reservation back a little. I also requested a table tucked away, to try to manage the noise of a busy restaurant. She was very friendly and helpful and even gave us a beautiful booth near the window. The room is adorable. Terrazzo tables, wall murals, plants, cool bar stools and mosaic tile all added to the charm. It felt cozy, modern and vintage all at the same time. Stefan was our server. He was incredible. He knew the menu well and made perfect suggestions. He checked on us often but never crowded us. His professionalism mixed with personable care really made us feel good. Our cocktails were fresh flavorful. The appetizers were so interesting. We both ordered seafood and we both loved our choices. She had the salmon that looked gorgeous. I chose the halibut that was perfection. The double mousse carrot cake was so good I am still thinking about it. We brought key lime cheesecake home to my friend's husband. We came to The Foxtail at the recommendation of my parents, and we're really glad we did! The ambiance was awesome (very open concept and nature-themed), and service was very attentive. And the food was great! While the spinach pie was a bit too doughy for my liking, the tagine was incredible, and my husband enjoyed his poke bowl. We'll absolutely be returning as there are a lot of items we want to try. If you're vegetarian, definitely check this place out! read more

We visited The Foxtail last night for the first time. It was our 19th anniversary and we were treated so well. My wife has been talking about The Foxtail for a few years wanting to take me so since we recently moved in the area we decided to go last Friday night. We're glad we made a reservation because it was packed. We were seated right away and put in our drink orders once we were seated which was nice to not wait. We decided to share their small plates (Tabouli bites, kabob) and sujuk flatbread. All were delicious! The space is very nice and something you would easily find in downtown Chicago. I'm glad I finally made it here because I'll be running back to Foxtail! read more

Beautiful new spot in Downers Grove! Aesthetically pleasing, drinks are on point and the food is delish! Went for brunch and loved the ambiance! Set up a reservation easy! Cost of Birmingham was anywhere from $18-30 a plate, depending on what you get. A deconstructed lobster roll was my friends favorite! I loved the burrata with fig jam! They also have oysters! Their drinks are hand crafted and carefully selected by the bartender and it's well worth it to try something out of your comfort zone! I loved it here! read more

First time here - finally decided to come in! The decor is beautiful - perfect for a nice dinner date or out with friends. I was pleasantly surprised by the food. Everything we ordered was so delicious!! The grilled octopus is a MUST. The kale Caesar was simple but perfect. The oysters were also super fresh. Best part was it was part of their happy hour menu! I do wish they offered more on their happy hour menu. We also orders the lamb and beef kefta kabob which was super flavorful. Our server was also great and answered all our questions. I have lately been on a Mediterranean food kick. I was looking through hundreds of restaurants when I came across a listing on Google for a place called Foxtail in Downers Grove. I do not know what I was expecting, but I was expecting something small with somewhat average food. Was I ever wrong? I went to Foxtail on a Saturday evening. Little that I know that this restaurant was one of the most popular in downtown Downers Grove. I also was somewhat lucky that we had some bad weather so people were still not yet pouring in. I was able to snag a table inside, but they also have seating in front of the restaurant that workers were wiping down from the rain. The inside is somewhat upper class and modern. The clientele looked high-end, but also casual more of a North Shore vibe. The waitstaff was on point and impeccable as soon as we were seated immediately waters were filled waitress gave us some time to look over the menu. The menu is very unique there is a heavy influence of Mediterranean spices and ingredients. There is also a mix of European. They also take all of these influences and make comfort foods. The menu was very exciting and I literally cannot wait to try as many items as I could. The first item that we ordered was the spinach pies. The pies were filled with garlic notes and other spices. The dough was slightly thicker than I was expecting. I was expecting more of a philo dough. There was a tipping sauce that tasted like a Taziki sauce with some mint undertones. The spinach pie was delicious, but I do not think I would order it again, just for the fact there are many other items on the menu that I feel would be better. We then ordered one of their flatbreads we ended up going for the pistachio flatbread. The flatbread consisted of mortadella mozzarella pistachio, watercress, and honey. This flatbread was the absolute star of the show. The honey was perfectly embedded into a top of the flatbread with its delicious melted cheese. A perfect dust of pistachio was on top of each slice. The watercress gave a great crunch. I probably could've ordered two of these. It was that good. FoxTail also has many seafood items on their menu. They have a full raw bar menu and also traditional cooked seafood. I went with the tuna Poké bowl and my wife had the shrimp pokey bowl The bowls consisted of cucumbers, spicy mayo, white rice, and other Asian spices. The freshness of my tuna in my bowl could obviously be told that it was same-day fresh. This did not taste frozen. There was not one hint of a fishy taste the tuna just melted in my mouth. The vegetables were all fresh. Everything was absolutely perfect. We were so stuffed we did not try any dessert. It wasn't the absolute perfect evening. I was so excited about my experience. I learned that they also had a second location in Des Plaines. This location is very different from the Downers Grove location. I went here for lunch with my wife. It is in the back lot of the spines right off of a man-made lake. The actual building looks to be like a church with large stained glass windows and large cross on the windows it is absolutely huge and completely beautiful. This location also had a very large outdoor patio overlooking the lake. We decided to sit outside. The main difference in this location from the Downers Grove location was the service. It was very lackluster. Our server looked aggravated and was not very attentive. The food also was delicious but not as good as the daughters grow location. We ordered identical meals. It was delicious still, the bill also was higher at this location. I do not know why. I would say this location is more for cocktails and enjoy a cocktail on their patio overlooking the lake. But might go to the Downers Grove location. If you want a fantastic evening with some of the best food you will ever eat. I cannot stress enough to go check out Foxtail in Downers Grove. I give a very rare rating of 9 out of 10. Definitely check them out for yourself. read more

If I could give a below zero review I would. Stopped for a cocktail tonight with a good friend and had attentive service. The problem started when we went to pay our bill. We both put out credit cards in with the bill to split the tab. After an abnormally long time returning the check (after working hard to move us out), the server returned with only ONE credit card. He ran the entire bill on my friends card. After we asked why my credit card wasn't returned, he stated that only one card was given? This went on for quite a while, and finally the manager came, gave me his business card and said they'd keep an eye out for my credit card. REALLY Didn't comp for losing my credit card, nothing. ZIP Spent half an hour on the phone with my credit card company to cancel the card, and as of now, NO follow up call from the manager to apologize. 2 drinks and zero response from management. We were put on the defense as they kept accusing us of only putting down one card. I'm thinking maybe an employee stole my card? read more

We have eaten there three times since we recently moved to Downers Grove. We ate outdoors the last time. While we want to try many restaurants, we have found ourselves heading back to Foxtail. The service is excellent. The last time we were there, our waiter, who was leaving for the day, brought his replacement over to meet us. The food is outstanding. I've had the Shrimp Poke bowl all three times. ( Did I mention, I can sometimes be a creature of habit? ). There are many other delicious sounding menu options which family members have gotten and raved over. Yes, we plan to try other restaurants, but we know this is one we will be coming back to on a regular basis. read more

It's a mound of couscous and a handful of chickpeas. I couldn't wait to get it home to add something to it the next day. Maybe some grilled mushrooms? Came here for our anniversary and had such a good experience! The ambiance is so nice, cocktails were delicious and food was amazing and such a good variety of options. Our waiter was so kind and attentive. We got the beet salad, oysters, paella and petit fillet and it was all so delicious. The atmosphere made me think we were at a restaurant in the west loop! We went here for dinner on New Year's Eve having never heard of it, but just wanting some oysters. We ha no idea what to expect but it was amazing. First of all, the owner is great and very personable and worked with us when we called to say we would be a little late for our reservation. The restaurant itself is an upscale yet comfortable vibe. The variety of food on this menu is amazing. You can get oysters, poke bowls, shawarma and more all in one place. The oysters were delicious and tasted very fresh. The drinks were awesome as well. This place is AMAZING! Went here for our anniversary. Our server was so sweet. They even gave us 2 free champagne drinks on the house to congratulate us. (: Our reservation was on a Wednesday at 8:30PM. The vibes were great and they had live sports on the tv in the bar! We got the oysters, grilled octopus, and the taleggio flatbread. The taleggio was my favorite because I had never had honey on a flatbread, it was so good. The oysters were $3.50 with a minimum of 6! Def going back! read more

The service was excellent from the waitress being attentive and funny to the busboy bringing us new plates from one appetizer to the other. They paced the meal well and didn't feel rushed. I am doing non alcoholic at the moment and the bartender customized a drink from the regular menu for me without the alcohol. It was so good. The food was very good. We had two appetizers and were full enough to take most of the flatbread home, which tasted great the following day. Stopped in after a street fair, & was pleasantly surprised! Ordered the grilled octopus & it was delicious! The oysters looked great at the open fresh bar station (next time). A hidden gem in D.G., definitely will revisit! Light, bright , nice environment, perfect for a business, lunch day. This restaurant recently opened. The ambience is a bit eclectic but the waiter was very nice and attentive. The sangria was very good (make sure to get the larger pour) with your choice of wine but beware of the prices. The pork belly BLT was just ok as it was a bit fatty and the portion was too small. Two slices would be better otherwise the chibatta bread overwhelms the sandwich. The fries that came with it was very good. The key lime pie cheesecake was creamy, flavorful and also really good. Not sure if I will be back. I give this place overall 3.5 stars. read more

Nice atmosphere inside, but I choose to sit outside because the weather was nice. The outdoor setup is nice, even on busy Main street. The cocktails were good. We choose to have appetizers, all were very good. I will come back again, my only things I thought were odd ... 1) The reservation system is inaccurate. Fine, it does not take reservations during peak hours and will alert you (if you signup for a timeframe), if a table is available. BUT I walked in and there were plenty of tables despite the website. 2) They have a bit of an identity crisis when it comes to the menu. The food is very good, but they are all over the board, with poke bowls, flat breads and mediterranean food. read more

Our waiter, Juan, was exceptional (just attentive enough, and knew the menu well, which seems rare these days!) and the food (poke bowls) and drinks (we had the monthly special and the santeria) were impeccably delicious. I'd say this is closer to a 4.5 star rating as MOSTLY everything about my dinner here was phenomenal! To start, they have a great craft cocktail menu and I can safely say these are probably the best cocktails I've had in the burbs and very reasonably priced at $10-12 per drink! I loved both drinks I got, the Ginny from the block, and the blue suede shoes drink, and both were absolutely delicious yet strong. Now on to the food, I was HIGHLY impressed with their grilled octopus! It gave me really hugh expectation for our entrees but those didn't quite deliver. They weren't bad per se, just not WOW. The bacon wrapped pork chop was a generous portion but the sauce that came with it needed to be balanced out with a little more acid to cut through the heaviness of the sauce. I ordered the salmon and enjoyed it but maybe I'm just not a fan of freekeh which is similar to wheat berries in taste and texture. But aside from the entrees falling a little flat, I can see myself coming here again regardless for the drinks, the ambiance, the service, other menu items I haven't tried yet, and that grilled octopus! read more

We love this place. It's great for date night. Great for couples and girls night out. It is all the above that we have come here for the food never disappoint nor do the appetizers. I absolutely love the lobster on the menu. The service is always impeccable their waiters and waitresses know the menu and can always suggest some great drinks craft cocktails, and entrées. This place has been on my list for a couple years now. Finally went for MDW. It is adorable!!! Chic, Andy Warhol, city vibes. The food was really good I enjoyed brunch, it is one of those places you can bring kids too but I wouldn't recommend. My 12 year old, is extremely picky they didn't have plain pancakes, waffles, etc. the child literally ate two sides of bacon. We ordered a kids meal (grilled cheese) it was huge. My daughter is 2, no apple juice but they did have milk, and cranberry. My one YO loved the fries. The drink list looked great, small plates great, I ordered the lobster omelette it was amazing. I enjoyed the strawberry rose mimosa as well. Loved the oysters but they were $3.50/pop more expensive than Chicago! Maybe they have a happy hour. Service was great, the bar is so pretty and there are literally little fox knobs on the rear cabinet we were seated in front of. Outdoor seating as well. Can't wait to go back WITHOUT my kids. The only reason I don't give it five stars is because of the kid factor. read more

Owner of this restaurant I hear owns Cadence nearby which I am not a big fan of their food so it took me a while to try this place... and I'm glad I did. Great ambiance and decor. Music was a little loud where we're raising our voice a bit and yet we're 2 feet apart. Tables aren't butt to butt which was nice. The fig and Burrata is probably the best I've ever had. Not too sweet. Bread wasn't overly toasted where it cuts your mouth. The rest of the food was all good... nothing that I would crave to get again but I'm glad I tried. Being a city slicker I have had all these flavors (except the chicken wings) before so if you've never had them I think this place would be a treat. Only got the apps and dessert this time so we'll see how the poke and entrees are next time. read more
