It's possible that I simply ordered the wrong thing but my breakfast tacos were like hash which I did not expect. I couldn't even tell there were eggs in it. I didn't love it. What a terrific experience! This quirky restaurant has an extensive menu - as well as a separate one with their "specials" - and offers brunch all day. Prices are reasonable. Service was great. Servers are friendly, helpful (with recommendations and info), and attentive without hovering. Full bar is available, too. We enjoyed our first visit (Liz was our server; he was awesome) so much, we returned the following day (Kayla was our server; she, too, was awesome.) Food was delicious and the presentation is attractive. The vibe/decor is retro. We will be back. By the way, I joined their loyalty program primarily because I knew that I'd patronize them again whenever one was nearby in my travels. For some reason, the points earned for our first meal did not generate in the account but, the next day, management and Kayla fixed it and assured that it'd work correctly going forward. This location has a full menu and also has a pretty good bar selection. The food is very fresh and is served quickly by friendly and attentive staff. The prices are fair for the amount of food served. This location also has an outdoor patio which is great during warm days. It is absolutely overpriced and not worth the money. At $17 dollars, I would expect at least 2 full pieces of toast, not 1 slice of bread cut in half. I've NEVER been to a place and ordered an omelet that didn't come with 2 slices of toast..... UNBELIEVABLE. The omelet was flat, compared to other places in the area, which have nice fluffy omelets... not to mention there were barely any fillings in the omelet. Came to the friendly toast on a rainy day with my family. As i walk into the door , the worker at the front was not very "friendly". Isn't the place called the "FRIENDLY" toast!? Anyways, me and my family got seated right away but at the same time there was no one in there. Out of all the tables they could have sat us at, they crammed us in a small corner between two other parties. Atmosphere was cool and so was the theming. Went in yesterday morning, first time stopping in. It has cute decor and our server was nice, but the food was very so so. I specifically ordered a breakfast sandwich ( don't remember the exact name of it) and asked for gluten free bread plus cheddar cheese. The waitress brought a plate with bacon, scrambled eggs and home fries. There was gluten free toast- but just on top of the food. Not a sandwich, no cheese. I did remind her ai had ordered a sandwich and she claimed she thought I ordered the american classic breakfast. No real worries, I said new toast with cheese on it would be fine, I'd make my own sandwich. Home fries were Luke warm, no second stop for a check on my husband's coffee or my tea. I was looking forward to trying this new restaurant with a bright, cheerful decor located in the trendy Tuscan Village. We brought our granddaugher to celebrate a special event. The atmosphere was fun and the staff accommodating. We were, however, taken aback by the prices. We have been to many popular breakfast/lunch venues in the area, and these prices are at least 30% higher. I must compliment them on their excellent coffee priced at about $4.50 per cup. Peet's is a quality brand and their decaf is water processed without the use of chemicals. The coffee is full-bodied and flavorful. We ordered a breakfast burrito, eggs Benedict, and chocolate chip pancakes. Unfortunately, all the food was disappointing. The burrito lacked flavor. It appeared to be scrambled eggs from a steam table put together in a somewhat soggy wrap with a few vegetables and a small amount of avocado. It was dry, tasteless, and needed some type of sauce. The server suggested a side of sweet potato hash instead of home fries but didn't tell me it would be $2 more. It was small cubes of sweet potatoes (possible from frozen) mixed with onion and pepper. It had an odd smoked flavor and soft mushy texture. Eggs Benedict should have a poached egg but this one had the yoke cooked almost all the way through. There was nothing tasty about this dish. The side of home fries was disappointing...no flavor and weird texture...possibly sat in a steam table too long. The kids chocolate chip pancake was just okay...no presentation to the dish and the bacon was overcooked until it was almost black. The little bottle of maple syrup is a nice tough but the kids' beverage added $4 to the $8 price. My granddaughter complained of a stomach ache on the ride home. There are several breakfast spots in the immediate vicinity that have much lower prices, higher quality, tastier and well-presented food, and generous portions. The Friendly Toast is not up to par. Holy aoli - I generally love the Friendly Toast and have visited here multiple times; I usually get the Big Breakfast - standard eggs, home fries, bacon, toast & French toast. I wanted to try something different and venture into their brunch / lunch side of the menu, so I went with the Meg's burrito - NOT a fan. I took a bite and it was 90% garlic aoli. And the garlic aoli is strong! It completely overpowered everything else in the burrito. I even tried putting hot sauce and it still tasted like I was eating a spoonful of jar-lic. No matter what I ate / drank, the garlic was just lingering in my mouth. The waitress saw I only ate the home fries and a single bite of the burrito, and I explained why.. but wasn't offered a new burrito with less (or preferably NO aoli), which I guess is my own fault since garlic aoli is listed in the description - just wasn't aware it's the main ingredient of the burrito. Will return, but definitely sticking to the basics. read more

I have visited Friendly Toast in Salem 3 times since it opened. Two occasions were on weekdays when it is not very busy. The service was excellent and the food was great. The portions are quite large, so I appreciate being able to share the meal or having leftovers (which heat up quite well). I feel that this makes the prices very reasonable. On the first Sunday that they were open, we went with a party of 8. We called ahead about our party of 8. They told us to come on in and they should be able to accommodate us. There were glitches...I will chalk it up to the restaurant being very busy, staff being new and still "training". We will definitely give it another try on the weekends, but will give it a couple of months for the newness to die down and get used to the volume of business on the weekends. read more

Read the reviews, arrived with high hopes about 2PM. They weren't busy. Good - my french toast. Pretty good - Irish Benedict. Corned beef hash was tasty. Hollandaise - not so much. Side of "country ham" was - truly inedible. Tough and dry. I used the mixed berry jam - which was tasty - with my ham to make it more moist so I could eat it. I had asked for the jam for my french toast, but I had practically eaten all of it by the time it arrived. Glad I had it for the ham, although a strange combination. Service - medicre to poor. My husband had to ask THREE TIMES for a glass of water. We waited - and waited - for the check. So disappointed. read more
