The service was extremely quick, the brought out the food and the check so fast no long waiting. I got the Wease Burger and fries. This place is in an old building and has that old building vibe with a chic appearance. You could sit inside or out. It is in a middle of a cute courtyard that has a few art sculptures in it with other restaurants as well. The staff were friendly and the prices were average for most places. We sat at the bar and each received a glass of water. I ordered a pint of Rohrbach Scotch Ale which is local to the area and split the Xerox pizza with a friend. The beer was a little darker than I usually drink but was very smooth and delicious. The pizza wasn't a type I usually order, but it was very tasty. You could taste the Lemon Garlic Butter on the crust. I feel they should have spread the Ricotta cheese more than just having lumps on parts of the pizza. In those bites, all you tasted was the cheese. The pizza was very salty though. My mouth was dry later while we were going around Rochester for most of the afternoon. I also had an upset/ lump in stomach feeling after eating there from about an hour later until the next day. I am not sure if it was the beer or pizza, but I know anytime I had an after taste of the pizza, I felt sick. I still say it was delicious while I was eating the pizza. The Gate House is pretty well known to many people for getting gathers. I had eaten their takeout meals but never had a chance to dine in until yesterday. The place is pretty busy and crowd as it was dinner time. The menu looks so good and I had a hard time to choose which one I want to try. So I ended up gotten the pizza. This is such an awesome place to take friends. Great food and great drinks. Wood fired pizzas look and smell amazing. Burgers were cooked perfectly to medium rare like asked. Located in an artistic village area with other different cuisines. Upon entering the place, a hostess greeted us and to my surprise they had lavender lotion for their customers. It smelled nice!! The place was already packed by around 12:30 pm for lunch so we got a table near the entrance. The decor is mostly wooden and welcoming. One can see the grand open oven for their thin pizzas. We ordered from their lunch menu. I got grilled chicken sandwich with a house salad. To my surprise, the chicken was thick and still moist. The bread was fresh and chewy. I would have liked more spinach and the salad could be bigger. My partner loved his fish sandwich with lots of tartar sauce on the side and a large pile of coleslaw. The washroom was awesome!! It was large and clean. They even provided feminine products- just in case. And yes they had coconut lotion!! They seem to know us ladies - we like to pamper ourselves!! Walking out, I noticed a large painting of a cute owl. Love it. I could have it in my living room! The Gate House has been my favorite restaurant in Rochester for a few years now. Why? I'm typically a creature of habit with my food orders at restaurants I frequent, ordering the same thing every time I go - at Gate House, that's never been the case and everything I've had has been amazing! My top three dishes would be the Ellison caesar salad, the Pandora burger and the chicken nachos. They have a good selection of craft beer on draft as well. The only downside is that Gate House's great food is certainly no secret, and you'll feel that if you ever try to get a table without a reservation (long waits) and slower service when you're seated due to the popularity. Came here for dinner; for COVID, they do outdoor seating with waiters wearing masks. It is a lovely place to eat in an evening, tucked in a scenic walkway behind buildings in the middle of the NOTA. When you drive by the buildings, you can't see the restaurant, but park and when you walk, you'll see a hidden clearing of calming trees, twinkling lights, and light chatter of people sitting outside on their modern garden like patio enclosure. A large head sculpture with geometric angles greets you as you walk into a iron clad fence with hanging summer flowers. Biggest thing about the Gate House is that their service is impeccable, their tables are small, and their portions are massive. An appetizer here could be your entree. Seriously. We had to to-go half our meal because the appetizers were just huge. My friends ordered their special chicken sandwich and that was like half a whole fried chicken in a sandwich. We got a salad to split and their pita w/ tabouleh and hummus. We also got the Lamb Burger (the Wegman) and the Xerox for their pizza. Their entrees were definitely heavy; and that is why I probably gave them a 4 star. I felt full after just 1 slice of my pizza, granted it was lemon garlic butter w/ ricotta, basil, and fried chicken, a hefty sounding pizza. We were both so full just eating 1/2 of foods, that my husband and I had some Tums and ginger tea when we went home. If you are good at eating heavy meals, then you are in for a treat. If you are here for a lighter fare, definitely lean towards a tomato sauce based pasta/pizza and go light with a salad (the salads are already massive). Unfortunately, I was disappointed by their fries and their cheese sticks. I thought all were stale and could not be rescued even in a to go box to bake in the oven to give them life. I would recommend to this restaurant, quality rather than quantity because their dishes while delicious felt too large/heavy and their fries brimmed over each plate but was stale. Lovely family friendly atmosphere! The burgers were delicious and the fries were wonderful- not too greasy but with good texture and flavor! The staff was very kind and we had no issues with our reservation for 6. It was one of our birthdays and we had brought a cake from Wegmans. My friend and I had an amazing 2.5 hour dinner at The Gate House. The place is tucked in inside of The Village Gate and it has a cute outdoor area which is where we had our dinner. The atmosphere is so enjoyable that we stayed there until the closing hours without even noticing. They have a wide range of options, and I would recommend them for any meal of the day. We ordered the Highland Park salad and South Wedge pizza. The food was amazing and I would absolutely order it again! Special love to our server who was friendly and kind. Very nice establishment with a fairly long presence in Rochester. I remember back to when they were in their first location. I remember them being known for burgers... I perused the menu and immediately knew this would be our spot. If you have a Nicoise salsd then I will love you (generally). As it so happens my friend was simultaneously thinking the same as I and when I texted her she was thrilled that we were on the same wave length. I of course went with the Durand Nicoise and it was delightful. The mix of flavors from the well prepared tuna steak to the kick of kalamatta olives... I was pleased and scarffed my salad down with ravenous speed. My friend went with the Highland. It was bright, colorful, and filling. She had plenty to take home. Desipte the beautiful weather, we ate inside because the patio was crowded. And i thought it a bonus that the seats inside are big, wide, and really comfortable. My husband and I decided to come to the gate house on a date. It's our first time together in Rochester New York and we wanted to have a yummy evening out. Place does not disappoint. We eat a pescatarian menu so finding food can sometimes be tricky. We decided to share the RPO vegan pizza which has both plant based pepperoni and sausage on it. We added in mushrooms for good measure with a side of marinara sauce and we literally were scraping the plate to pick up all of the yummy morsels. Well done! So good. I've always been a big fan of The Gate House! The location is perfect within the village gate and has ample outdoor seating, which was well spaced out. I've always loved the Caesar salad (the dressing is AMAZING and I love the little rotini pasta). Also - if you get a salad, it comes with cheese filled breadsticks. Need I say more? They also have beers on draft, cocktails, and wine. As well as a dessert menu! The service was slow, but it was a beautiful night and we didn't mind. Today was no different with their Southwest Salad with Crab Cakes. Someone always orders a pizza in our party and it's always yummy. Not pictured but perhaps our favorite item are their Black & Tan Onion Rings. The patio is a wonderful spot to dine in Summer. Service is consistently good. Our only complaints about this restaurant is getting a table. We've made multiple attempts to eat here recently, only to be told there is a very long wait, meanwhile there are partially empty tables waiting for diners. They might consider opting for a policy like other Rochester establishments that require everyone be present to seat the table -- especially for the patio. For indoor dining, sometimes it can be a bit loud. In all, this is a place we enjoy returning to when we can. Your family or group will enjoy it. The staff are always really friendly and on point with the service. I get the Niçoise salad a lot because I like it so much that I can't bring myself to hardly try anything else. The garlic rosemary fries are a must, they are SO good. I recently went for brunch and the food was delicious. The server recommended the Blood orange mimosa which had Grand Marnier as a nice touch- I had 3 of those things! lol. I got the skillet meal which had some great flavors going on.
