I did see they allow you to make reservations on Open Table, so I booked it for a weekday to try it out. It wasn't nearly as busy as the parking lot looked, there was plenty of seating. It was a nice day so they had the windows open and they also had someone playing live music so it was a tad loud but, not overly loud where you can't hear your conversation. The menu is not your typical menu, it's very crafty if that's a word. The service was very good, and she explained the menu well and we took her up on her recommendations. Turkey pastrami which I had never had before. It tastes really fresh and felt healthy. The salad comes in a little small bowl but full of goodness. It's a really nice place for a girls night out, or a family dinner. Wouldn't consider it a good place for date night as it is pretty loud.

Since I was in the area, I thought I would give it a try. I was totally taken aback by the level of customer service I was provided. Upon entering the store, i headed to what I thought was the correct area. 2 different employees walked past and spoke to me as they walked by. I thought that was pretty nice. Then a third one went past and asked if they could help me. I told her what I was looking for and she walked me to it. I am happy she did. She showed me where the help wanted button was that I didn't see and that also wasn't labeled. But since she walked me back and identified it for me it was ok. Then an employee came back and helped me. She was very nice and pleasant and said she would have my order up front at the registers. Even the cashier was both nice and friendly. Each employee I encountered gave me a high level of customer service. I also liked the fact that the store was very neat and clean and very organized. I can tell by this location that customer service is very important to this company.

My Aldi journey has fluctuated over the years. I went from being a total Aldi hater, to being…read moreindifferent to Aldi, to being an Aldi apologist. Part of the reason for me becoming an Aldi convert is this particular Aldi on 86th Street. I now consider this Aldi my "home" Aldi, because it's located in my adopted neighborhood of Nora, and it's just off of the Monon Trail. I'm at this Aldi all the time, because I'm in this area a lot of the time. I'm so familiar with this Aldi that I don't even blink an eye at the produce in cardboard boxes anymore! I revel in the bleak aesthetics and harsh lighting! I kind of really love that I can't find everything on my grocery list! And now, I make sure to always have a quarter with me, just in case I need a shopping basket. But more often than not, I am able to fit everything in a reusable bag, which I make sure is in my car at all times, just in case I need to make an Aldi run. Aldi has changed me a little bit, and that's OK. A fun thing that I discovered, after shopping at Aldi several times, is that many of the products that they sell -- especially in the cheese section -- are most likely also Trader Joe's products, but in a different package. Also, some of my favorite tortillas chips are at Aldi, and they have a decent wine section! Wine lovers should not sleep on Aldi's wine offerings, because they have some diamonds. Usually, there is only one checkout line open. But I never have to wait long -- they are super efficient here at this Aldi. They will get you in and out quickly.

I'm seldom the hater amongst reviews for any business, however, I'll openly admit I've never quite…read moreunderstood the Aldi fascination. Good prices? Oh sure. But what else? I will admit that my Aldi experience is tainted by a negative experience during an employment fair years ago where Aldi, in particular, made some ableist and negative comments around disability. It turned me off, and it made me swear off Aldi. Over the years, I've gradually returned on a limited basis. And, yes, I'll openly admit this location is easily one of the best in Indy. During today's visit, however, it all still just struck me as incredibly middling. The good? The doors are automatic. This strip center has plentiful accessible parking. This location is easily cleaner than most locations I've seen, though during today's visit I saw several products that had clearly been opened and a couple spills that hadn't been touched. The aisles are decently organized. They are pretty wide. I like the location - I can hit a decent restaurant, Goodwill, and Chris' Ice Cream all while here. The prices are better than most grocery stores for sure, though for that you're also getting a variety of off-brands and national brands under a generic name. Here's why, I think, I can't let go of the ableism I experienced at the recruitment fair - this process here is just so not disability friendly - from the quarter for a cart (outside the store then returning it there) to the lack of customer service to bagging your own groceries (with your own bag) to, well, you get the point. I dunno. Maybe I'm missing something. Truthfully, I'm not thrilled with their sister store Trader Joe's either. I don't hate Aldi. I just don't see the wonder of it all. For me, it's a low-priced, mid-ranged grocery experience where they seldom have what I want and I always feel a little bit more tired after shopping here.
