I recently bought four soups from this soup kitchen and have worked my way through almost all of them. Overall, the experience has been decent nothing mind-blowing, but convenient if you're looking to stock up or meal prep. The first one I tried was the gumbo, and honestly, it wasn't my favorite. It tasted more like a vegetable soup with okra than an actual gumbo. It lacked the depth of flavor I usually expect from a good gumbo. My favorite so far has been the tomato and rice--flavorful, comforting, and hard to mess up. Currently eating the French onion soup, and my first impression was that it was surprisingly sweet. I ended up adding salt and pepper to balance it out, which helped a bit, but I prefer a more savory take on this classic. I still have one left to try the Lentil soup so the jury's still out on that one. All in all, the soups are okay. If you're in a pinch, need something quick, or want to freeze a few options for later, it gets the job done. I had a craving for soup. I remember hearing about this place and checked it out! All vegetarian and even vegan options! The service is amazing and the staff member, Chris, gave the most impressive rundown on the amazing and extensive selections! It's a clean store (I know I had a restaurant) so thumbs up. Anyway I bought 4 containers. Tonight I ate the Provençal minestrone! I swear it felt like my aunt Dolly was in the kitchen making it for me! I can't wait to try the next one!!! Note: Soup is FROZEN. I didn't realize this was not a sit-down place but definitely take-out only. And well known by locals as there were a lot of customers picking up to go. I watched momentarily as I saw these healthy soups prepared fresh in the kitchen. The Mulligatawny, an Indian lentil soup, was delicious and in workshop hesitate trying other soups here too on repeat. The service was great. This place is great for vegetarians. All the soups are vegetarian and there are SO many options. Their soups are very healthy (lots of beans and vegetables), not all cheese and cream based. If you buy 10 soups (which are all frozen), you get one free. It's my mom's go to food when she's hungry and wants something healthy, but also hardy. I just went by today, July 29, 2025 to get soup for myself and a friend who's under the weather and was saddened to say the location was empty. A recording at the number listed here stated they have closed after 25 years. I've had their soups- French Onion, Carrot and Ginger, and Minestrone and really loved them. I normally don't even like hot liquids but was honestly excited about a place with high-quality, healthy soups for when I'm not feeling well and hoped to try the African peanut one. I know I have recently reviewed their delicious soups I found at the Gretna Green Sunday Farmers' Market in Brentwood. I also mentioned that they were out of half their stock when I arrived that Sunday to purchase. Since then, I realized that they would not be at the market for Christmas nor New Years Day because the holidays fall on a Sunday. As you all may be aware, we here in Los Angeles are having much needed rain for the last month and next week will continue to be chilly and rainy weather. WE ARE HAVING SOUP SEASON TEMPERATURES! ( a rarity for sure) So, yesterday I drove 25 miles in an early morning downpour to their home base and kitchen establishment. Yes, I am not afraid of driving in the rain. I am from the east coast and well-trained for the challenge. Anyway, it was sooo worth the effort. Inside this immaculately clean storefront, there are 2 freezers full of every soup they offer. I felt like a kid in a candy store ( but it was soup). The incredible gentleman behind the counter recognized my voice from my call to him the day before asking about if they would be open. I spent a good 15 minutes chatting with him and discussing his vast selection. I bought 10 and he told me I get a free one AND at the store they are $6 vs $7 at the farmers' markets they are sold at, which makes perfect sense. Oh how happy I was driving home with my bounty. I bought minestrone, thai coconut curry, himalayan lentil, mushroom barley, split pea and mulligatawny (a best seller)... Doubles of them except the mulligatawny adding upon to 11 ... each is 16 ounces. I will definitely return soon for my NYC family visiting next month and to keep my freezer well stocked. The beauty of all their soups is that they also can be placed over rice, udon noodles or ramen noodles and voilá, you have a phenomenal entree vs a bowl of soup ... The Gourmet Soup Kitchen is not physically a part of my local community BUT, they are a small business that deserves attention no matter where you live in LA County... just fantastic, well seasoned, delicious, clean, vegan and vegetarian fare!!! Tried 2 new (new to me) soups this time... Spicy Six Bean and Moroccan Spiced Vegetable & Chickpea. 2 very different soups but both really good. My hubby and I split the two soups. Out of the two he liked the Moroccan one better and I liked the spicy six bean better (I added fresh chunks of avocado and fresh pico de gallo on top of the spicy six bean soup). I love beans...and I loved the bean soup! If you're being mother like me you should try that one. The veggies and both were great and filling. Flavors are great on both soups. I have been coming here for years. Taste of homemade, soup filled with fresh vegetables. They are incredibly convenient , I buy them in bulk through the year. The portions are great for a quick lunch or dinner, they come frozen but you can thaw them overnight in the fridge, lots of variety and never a bad experience. Our first trip, we picked out 4 soups with the help of one of the very helpful employees. Hint: If someone here makes a suggestion, take their advice! We got the Himalayan Lentil, Mushroom Barley, Portuguese Spinach White Bean and the Nepal Tomato Bisque. The soups ranged from great to amazing. My favorite was the Tomato Bisque. We went back a few days later and got 10 more. All the soups are vegan or vegetarian. I didn't miss the meat. They were all that good. It is clear to me that these soups were made with so much love. They are delicious, comforting, with bright, vibrant and well-balanced flavors. I purchased 10 soups and I have had 5. All of them taste like my beloved Mom made them. I have an illness and can't have solid food and it is so time-consuming and expensive to make these types of soups daily in addition to cooking for my family. So, I mean it when I say that these are a God-send! Probably the most surprising thing is the price which is so reasonable. Canned soups are anywhere from $2-$8, full of sodium and dead ingredients. I am far from a vegetarian! Let's just start there. Soups have never in my life and considered a meal not even remotely.
